“What!?” I said in a frown, anger, a fleeting feeling on my features. “What do you mean by that?”
“Didn't you want me to promise to fulfill three wishes, ones I know nothing about?” His eyes glistened with reserved laughter, “Well, this is the price to pay, you'll get your freedom and afterwards I'll fulfill three of your wishes as long as it's within my powers.”
I squinted my eyes, huffing as I crossed my hands over my chest once again, meeting his gaze squarely, as if I was challenging him. His eyes on me were sparkling with a certain thread of amusement, almost seeming like he was enjoying the banter.
"Ah, don't play dumb, little one," Alpha Axel said, taking a step closer to me, bridging the remaining gaps, his eyes never leaving mine, forcing me to look up to meet his face, and I could feel his dominance washing over me like a wave, “You should know exactly what you were getting yourself into when you made that request. You wanted me to owe you a favor, and now you're trying to back out?”
At this point, I was more concerned with the fact that my neck really hurt from looking up for so long. I took a step back, to adjust the angle of elevation and depression between us. Obviously he had no problem looking down at me, but I had a problem looking up.
For a second, his eye flashed with victory but it wasn't long it was wiped off, when he saw me massaging my neck. “Now what were we saying again, oh yes, my confinement punishment? How long would this punishment go on for?” I asked, still massaging my neck.
Now it was his own turn to huff, “That will be decided by how good you perform,” he said, pulling his pants from the bed and putting it on.
“Easy there tiger, else you'll get it torn,” I said teasingly, momentarily forgetting I was talking to an Alpha and Alpha Axel for that matter, the most ruthless Alpha in the whole werewolf lore.
He sent me a ruthless gaze, almost charging at me, but Beta Kaiden came to my rescue pulling me away, “You need to get properly dressed omega, and rest for a while. You were badly injured and while the surface may look healed, you can't stress yourself so much else you'll get injured once again on the inside. Let me show you to your chamber for your rest.”
He was talking in a high pitched voice that I couldn't understand what it was about because I was close to him and I could hear him clearly even if he spoke in whispers.
As soon as we crossed the bars and were in the hallway, he stopped talking and heaved a sigh of relief.
“You should mind how you speak to him, you don't want to end up like those slave traders from more than a month back.” He said, still pulling me along.
My feet came to an abrupt stop, prompting him to stop as he gave me a questioning look. “How long have I been out?” I asked, my heart racing, as I was keen on hearing the answer.
“I just said it.” He said, but I wasn't satisfied, I wanted to be sure my ears were working just fine.
“Then say it again, I must have heard wrongly. How long was I out?” I asked again, my voice getting higher.
Beta Kaiden looked at me inquisitively, before answering, “You were out for 40 days in all, did you not know that?” He ended with a question.
My eyes widened, my hands subconsciously moving to touch my rib, where the dagger had pierced. It didn't feel like there were any scars. Then I did another crazy thing, I pulled up the top I was wearing, not caring that I wasn't wearing any other thing below the top.I heard Beta Kaiden hiss, but that wasn't what I was bothered about, he could look at me for all I care. I couldn't see it very well, so I put down the dress, pulling Beta Kaiden along, “Where's my chamber, can I get a mirror right now?” “Oh yes, your chamber. There's one there,” He said, jogging to keep up with my speed. But it wasn't necessary because soon he was in the lead and I was panting for breath. “What a cursed wolf I am! I'm not asking to run faster than him, just keeping up is good enough,” I mumbled under my breath but Beta Kaiden must have heard me as he came to a halt.Suddenly, he scooped me up in his hands and started running this time. Soon we were out of whatever facility we were in previously, along
Beta Kaiden's eyes snapped up to meet mine, a hint of guilt flashing across his face. “Ah, the dagger. I don't know... ” He said, trying to keep his eyes on my face. “Where is the dagger?” I asked, turning to grab the gown I had pulled off a while ago. It was a loose fitting blush coloured short gown, it had been made with lightweight materials that gave the feeling of comfort and beauty to the wearer. As if enchanted, as soon as I pulled down the gown over my body, he snapped back to his senses. “You were saying?” He asked again, his eyes blinking repeatedly.“Where is the dagger?” I asked again, covering the distance between us, to look up at him. Just like Alpha Axel, Beta Kaiden was just about the same height.“The dagger is a trail, we need it to find out who needed the Alpha dead by all means possible.” Beta Kaiden said, thinking about something. He made to say something but he plopped his mouth shut again. “Okay, this is where you'll be staying while you serve your confinemen
AVA'S POVThe maids stared at me in confusion for a while, but I ignored them like I didn't know what I just said. They must have made a silent agreement within themselves as they decided to follow the direction of my hand rather than my mouth. The maids arranged the left half of the room. They were almost done though, when one of the maids opened the wardrobe and started pulling out the clothes one by one, as if they were rags. “Stop it!” I called out, prompting all the maids to stop what they were doing, as they stared at me, waiting for the next instruction, “Who instructed you to clean that part of the room?” The maids exchanged glances amongst each other, their expression of confusion as they stared back at me. “I clearly stated, clear the right half of the room, so what are you doing clearing the left?”The maid who had spoken before wanted to say something, but she didn't follow through on it. They went to work on the other half and soon the room was absolutely tidied except
AVA'S POV“I'm sorry, what?” I asked, shifting forward, as I stared at her, wondering if I heard right. “I know, I know. It's not very believable because of the situation I find myself in right now,” She said, sobbing once again. “What happened then? I mean, isn't your mate supposed to be totally crazy about you? I mean...” I trailed off, realizing how immature of me it would be if I stated the obvious, despite knowing that she was not in the right frame of mind.“Oh come on, go on. You wanted to say something, say it. I'm listening,” She said, gently taking my hands as she urged me. “I-I mean, he totally treats you like you don't exist. Why will he do such a thing to you? He's your mate!” I exclaimed as if trying to prove something to her, my gaze narrowing as I stared intently at her. “I was his mate,” She said, placing my hands gently on my laps, as she pulled back to relax on the bed rest. “He rejected me after what I did, but I swear on this child I'm carrying, it was a mist
AVA'S POVThe pain, sorrow and regrets in her eyes were evident, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of empathy towards her. Despite the situation, I found myself wanting to comfort her, to tell her that everything would be okay. But deep down, I knew that the wounds ran too deep, and forgiveness would not come easily.I didn't know what to say or do, so I sat there, just staring and hoping that my presence was enough to speak volumes. “You're the first who hasn't ever run from me. Are you new to the pack?” Sage asked, after a while, when she was calmer. “Technically, I've been in the pack for the past forty days - in a coma.” I said rather playfully, but the look she gave me was one filled with pity. “How long have you been in this place, secluded from everyone else in the pack?” I asked, my curiosity piqued. “Almost three months now,” Sage said, a smile dazzling up her face. “I'm guessing no one dared to visit you here?” I asked again, even though I was sure of the answer. “E
AVA'S POV“Just how many broken people were in this pack? I should leave him alone with his problem, I mean, even I have mine to solve.” I muttered, just wanting to leave quickly and quietly without disturbing him. But his next words made me stop dead in my tracks.“Sage...” he called out again. Lifting his head, his eyes suddenly snapped in my direction. It was Kaiden. But there was something about him that was too scary. His beautiful brown eyes were gone, it was replaced with a blood red color, fully highlighted under the full moon.He dangerously stalked towards me and I'd be damned if I wasn't scared. I stepped back slowly, wanting to keep as much gap between us as possible.Suddenly, I couldn't see him again, the fear making me shiver furiously as I looked around, still retreating slowly until suddenly I hit a wall. A wall of flesh! I slowly turned, dreading what I would see. And that's when I saw him.Beta Kaiden's face was just inches from mine, his blood-red eyes blazing w
“Give me an answer to something I'm very inquisitive about, why do you, for some very crazy reason, always get involved with trouble?” Alpha Axel asked; staring down at me from where he stood. It felt kinda weird, awkward as well so I slowly stood up, confused on what to do.“I asked a question!” Alpha Axel suddenly raised his voice, causing me to jump in surprise at his tone.“I came out for a walk,” I began, meeting his icy gaze with a gaze of the same intensity. “Then he attacked me. How does that count as me having a tendency of always getting into trouble?”He stared at me for a long period of time or so I thought and I met his gaze for a long ti
“What happened here?” I heard beta Kaiden ask but Alpha Axel kept mute and instead helped him up, leading him away without as much as a stare. Beta Kaiden's eyes met mine, confusion gracing his face, but I immediately turned my face away, staring at the earth beneath as they walked away. I stayed there for a while, watching them till they were out of sight and then the tears that had long threatened to fall, came running down along my cheeks. I whimpered softly so as not to alert anyone. My hands finding its way to my cheeks as I cleaned it slowly. “Ava?” I heard a soft voice behind me all of a sudden, making me jump in fright. It wasn't any I was familiar with. “Ma'am, it's just me,” the voice came again, granting me a good sight of the owner of the voice. That was a pretty familiar face. One of the maids who had helped arrange my room.
ALPHA AXEL'S POV“Why did you assign her to your room if you don't trust her?” Kaiden asked as soon as we left the training arena. “Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer,” I replied with a bored tone. The phrase was something I had learnt due to interactions with humans for so long. “Did you forget what happened with Piper so soon?” Kaiden huffed, definitely not buying my reason. Piper was the daughter of my father's Beta and we had once been so close as friends until she tried to poison me following my parents death. Kaiden bringing up this particular matter made me clench my teeth in anger. Piper's betrayal still so fresh in my head.“Alpha,”“Alpha,”The guards outside the training room curtsied as I walked past them. “Can you even listen to yourself?” Kaiden boomed, his eyes darkening furiously. “We barely know her and you are going to trust her with your personal space.”“There's something about her…” I began but trailed off midway, unsure how to explain how diffe
AVA'S POV A knock broke up our little heart to heart discussion and goddess if I wasn't grateful for the interruption. There was no way I wanted to tell Sage what had happened but I couldn't lie either. Damn the Vampire Queen oath, I was bound not to tell lies. “You can go back to bed, you're pregnant, I'll check who's there,” I assured her, urging her to go back to bed. She obliged after a few seconds but I could see her hesitation. When I was sure I no longer appeared to have bawled my eyes to sleep, I pulled the door open and I was met with the face of one of the maids who was assigned to my room previously. ‘Thank goodness it wasn't the same maid,’ I muttered to myself. “You aren't dressed?” she asked, an alarmed look on her face as she forced her way in, looking me all over. “Dressed for what e
