Chapter 14: Now I know
Rowan
I look down at Jules’ still form as thoughts run through my mind. I didn’t know what to do after she passed out, so I brought her back to my place.
She looks so peaceful lying in the middle of my bed. Thankfully, I was able to stop the bleeding. But not before I got a taste of her blood. Now, I’m one-hundred percent sure that Jules is my mate. After tasting the sweet ambrosia that runs through her veins, there’s no doubt that she’s mine. Other than the fact that it looks like someone shot her with some kind of poisonous bullet, I also noticed that the knife she produced is the same one I found near one of the dead creatures. I stopped the blood using the coagulant in my saliva, which would have probably grossed her out if she had been conscious. Tha
Jules My first mistake is that I rush into my house without giving a thought to who might be sneaking around. I’m close to my room when my father’s imposing shadow stops in front of me. His features are set in a scowl, and his hands are balled into fists. “I heard they weren’t able to run the sleep test on you.” I swallow hard. “Yeah, Dr. Caldwell said that there was some kind of emergency, and they couldn’t do it.” His eyes narrow into sits, and his lips pucker. “Is that so?” I nod my head. “Yeah,”&nb
“I don’t know what I am, Ro.” She whispers after a couple of seconds. “Since prom, I’ve woken up in the middle of the forest with a knife in my hand, and I have no clue how I got there or where the knife came from. All I know is that I’ve been killing monsters, and I’d get these terrible migraines afterward. About a week ago, I went to my father’s clinic for some tests and stumbled upon something that made me suspicious. After that, my powers seemed to sharpen, and I was able to consciously use my abilities while I was awake. It was the first time that I could control it. Last night, I was at my dad’s institute because they were going to run a sleep test on me, but something occurred, and it was postponed.” A guilty pang strikes me again, but I don
Jules I can’t believe I’m back here again. Yet, when Rowan said that he wanted to be with me, every girly part in my body stood to attention and responded to his manly voice. I look over as Rowan sorts through his kitchen cabinets and begins to heat something up. A frightful thought occurs to me at that moment. Is he preparing to drink blood? I mean, I’ve seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer and how one of the characters would heat blood up in the microwave. I cringe at the idea. Rowan instantly notices my distaste and rolls his eyes. “It’s not blood. I don’t drink blood like that. I have a small refrigerator where I keep bags, or I go to my brother’s Halo and take it from a donor.
Chapter 18: I didn’t know thatRowan As soon as I get to the Halo, I head to Tristan’s office. He is sitting behind his desk, tapping away at his laptop, which seems mundane, considering that he’s a very powerful vampire. His eyes hone in on mine as soon as I stop near his desk, and his brow furrows with consternation. “Where the hell have you been, Ro? I’ve been calling and texting all night.” “Sorry, bro, I’ve been busy doing some sleuthing.” He arches a brow. “And what exactly have you found?”
Jules Coming awake with a start, I turn to my bedstand and shut my ringing phone off. I blink my eyes to clear the cobwebs from my brain and look at the screen. It’s only nine in the morning, but I feel like I’ve slept longer. My phone vibrates with a message a moment later. It’s from Amara. Hey Jules, want to get some breakfast with Haley and me? My lip curls with derision at the thought of sitting down to eat with my traitorous friends. It’s funny how I’ve gone from loving my friends to disliking them. I know that I should be more forgiving, but my stomach revolts at the thought. It pains me that they’ve been lying to me for so long. Not only did they keep thei
Rowan It doesn’t take us long to get to the witch’s house. Thankfully, she lives ten minutes away. I have to admit, Evian is not quite what I expect a witch to look like. I mean, over the past couple of years that I’ve worked with Azazel and our Halo, I’ve run into several witches, but I can honestly say that Evian is nothing like them. For starters, she doesn’t wear quirky hippy dresses or spout about nature, and she doesn’t dress like an emo goth. No, Evian is a station wagon-driving, cardigan-wearing soccer mom. Her house has a white picket fence, for goodness sake. Her short blond bob rustles with the breeze, and her pale skin glows as she leads us to her greenhouse. “So, Azazel sent
Jules “Stop the car!” I call out in an urgent tone. The car comes to an instant halt, jarring us from our seats at the sudden impact. The screeching of breaks and burned rubber permeate the air. “What the hell, Jules?” Rowan asks. “Are you alright? What’s wrong?” My body instantly changes as it prepares to fight. I can feel the rush of power coursing through my body and my eyes glowing. “Something is coming,” I mutter gruffly. “I can feel it.”&nb
Rowan I’m so upset with my brother and his mate. They ruined one of the most perfect moments of my life. Jules was in my arms and was ready to spend the day with me, but then she sees Amara, and the morning quickly goes to shit. A knock on the door startles me out of my grim thoughts. Striding forward, I open the door. “Tristan, hey,” I mutter in surprise. Tristan smiles. “Hey. Sorry for coming by without calling, but I was out and about and thought maybe we’d have some… you know… brother bonding time.” He sounds a little unsure, which is a little endearing. I’ve meant to invite him to meet my family, but with everything that has been happening with Jules, I kind of forgot.
Chapter 31: Last -ForgivenessJules Rowan kisses me on the temple as he passes out drinks to his brothers while I gesture for Amara and Haley to join me on the tiny kitchen island. “Come and get your drinks, ladies.” Nevaeh takes one of the drinks and winks as she settles herself across Mikhail’s lap. Amara and Haley reach for the glasses with solemn smiles. I can tell that they’re still unsure of how to approach me. Giving them a genuine smile, I lean my elbow on the counter and say. “We need to establish some ground rules if we’re going to be friends again.”
Rowan Striding through campus, I push my backpack higher against my shoulder. Mikhail strides beside me, his cellphone in his hand and a smile on his face. Rolling my eyes, I lean close to see what he’s looking at, but he leans away and glares. Arching my brow, I give him a sly smile. “Are you and Nevaeh sexting?” He snickers. “That is none of your business, asshole.” My lip quirks higher. “Your defensive tone is answer enough for me, bro. Well, I’m done for the day. I’m going to meet Jules in a minute. We’r
Jules Rowan lifts me in his arms with a content smile as he sways to the music in the club. Earlier, Azazel invited us to celebrate Zoe’s birthday at his club, Garden of Eden. Everyone is here, which means that my former friends are also here. However, I don’t let that bother me when I’m in Rowan’s arms. “You know, this is a fast song, Ro? We’re the only ones swaying in place.” I say in his ear. Rowan shrugs. “I don’t care. I want to hold you.” I have to resist rolling my eyes at his words. It’s not like we don’t spend most of our time together. I can’t complain, thoug
Rowan “Are you nervous?” I ask Jules as I usher her toward the front door of Alex's home. Azazel called me earlier and told me that Mathias and the others want to meet up to plan how to proceed with searching for the missing “Frankenstein” creatures and Jules’ missing dad. Everyone agreed that Azazel’s house was the best option since they want to introduce Mikhail’s parents to the rest of the family. “You know, my family loves you. Plus, I think it’s important that you be here since you’re the one who revealed what the Clinic has been hiding. Jules shrugs. “I wouldn’t put it that way, considering it was all coincidental.” I shake my head and pull her be
I look at my mother, who gives me a big smile and pulls me into her arms, then I turn to Rowan and kiss him. “God, Jules, I’m so glad you’re okay. You don’t know how freaked out I was when I found out your dad took you.” He mutters against my lips. Smiling, I point to my mom. “I found my mom.” Rowan smiles at my mom, who, in turn, gives him the once-over and nudges my elbow with an approving smile. Once everyone sees that the coast is clear, they rise from the ground and start dusting off their clothes. I watch h
Rowan I don’t consider what time it is when I make the call. No, there’s nothing that matters to me more than Jules. Azazel answers my call instantly. “What in the sodding hell, Rowan? I literally just left your apartment.” Azazel answers. I nearly laugh when I hear the sound of Zoe’s reprimand in the background as she tells him to stop being an ass. “Jules is at the clinic, Azazel. Her father found out about her and took her. She just contacted me through our mental bond. She’s fine, but she’s searching for her mother and Galena.” “Oh, fuck. Okay, I’m going to call Mathias and th
Jules As soon as I get home, I rush to my father’s office and place the keycard where it was. A noise startles me as I’m about to step out of the office. Stepping back into the doorway, I take a couple of deep breaths as the sound of muffled footsteps comes closer. As quietly as I can, I close the office door, close my eyes, and concentrate on my super hearing. My heart pounds wildly in my chest, and my throat grows dry. I’m sure it's Clarissa’s footsteps that I hear because they’re light but purposeful. Fearing discovery, I search the room, but there’s nothing I can use. Before I left for the clinic, I came home and hung out until it was time for bed and slipped another set of pills into her t
Rowan I’m in shock. No, I’m beyond shocked. I can’t believe we just met Mikhail’s father. Mikhail is going to flip. Jules takes my hand and squeezes it. “Are you okay?” I nod. “Yeah, I guess I’m still in shock. I need to call Azazel, Mikhail, and Tristan.” She nods. “Yeah, and I need to go home.” My head snaps in her direction. “What? Are you kidding me, babe? What if your father hurts you?”&
Jules As quietly as I can, I sneak back into my house. The house is quiet and still. Before I head to bed, I check on Clarissa and sigh with relief when I see that she’s still sleeping. I spend the morning recalling the confrontation between Amara and me. I’m still angry, but not as angry as I was before. Now, I’m more relieved because I told her off and am no longer burdened with my resentment. Rowan texts me several times. Some of them are random pictures of cute puppies, and some are kiss emojis. It’s a little after two o’clock when I decide to see him. Clarissa gives me the stink eye when I go down the stairs but doesn’t comment or ask me where I’ve been, which confirms the fact that
