A shocked silence hangs over everyone as I reveal new knowledge within the sacred mirrors the Oracle prays. No one says anything for a long beat of silence, confused.
“Are you telling me… there’s two more of you?” Grayson scoffs, his eyes then flicker to Jaxson, “aren’t you a lucky little wolf,” he coos childishly. Jaxson growls as Grayson tries to pat his head, only to retreat quickly.
I roll my eyes. “No, we’re fraternal, dumbass. And that is disgusting!” I snap, running my fingers through my hair. Grayson chuckles as I turn to face Jaxson. “And you! How do you have kids?!” I screech.
Jaxson blinks, “Fenrir bore sons long before he joined to me. He kept the hounds to guar
The Alpha’s have arrived.I can feel their presence in the great hall. They’re pissed, unsurprisingly. Luckily for me, they don’t have a choice.I sit at what once was my father’s offices, behind his desk. For the most part, I’d been going through all the files. Mostly the classified ones. I read through the information of almost all the spies; my father had many.“Why are the Alpha’s gathering here. Didn’t Jaxson say to gather them at the warrior pack?” Elias questions. An exhausted sigh escapes my lips.“Because it’s been a long time since these Alpha’s have come together like this. Most of them hate each other. I ca
Maybe daring the Alpha’s to challenge me isn’t a great first impression as Queen. 'It’s improper,' Elias would say.Nevertheless, there is nothing I can say that will make them accept me. All I can do is show these men I’m a capable Queen. However, maybe taking the barrier, containing my scent, down wasn’t a good idea. Still, I am a Carson, that will never change. If I can’t accept my parents for what they were, then I’ll never move forward - and I want to.Every wolf in the room tenses, their nails peel away, and their claws make an appearance. They were about to shift. I can sense their strong desire to submit, but a low soothing tone escapes my lips. It reminds me of Elias. I had no control of myself, &l
A deep, shaky breath stutters past my lips. My heart pounds a million miles a minute, and a rush of overwhelming emotions clench tightly in my chest.“Are you okay?” Theia whispers, her fingers clenching her nose shut to block out the scent of desiccation and blood.Nevertheless, she doesn’t move as she continues to stand beside me to hold my hand. I fix my gaze onto her soft hazel ones. The innocence and kindness in her eyes instantly calm me.“Yeah… I-I’m just scared,” I whisper. Theia smiles, her hold on my hand tightening. Her eyes flicker to the steel doors, tilting her head the slightest, confused.“What is this place?” She wonders, her eyes burning into the side of my face.“The place Valak kept me,” I don’t know why I wanted to come here. There’s just something here I wanted to face before facing Freya. We’ve been standing here for three hours. T
Two days pass in a breeze. Everyone seems to sit a reasonable distance from me – even Elias.I don’t blame them. My mood swings are worse than a hormonal pregnant woman. One second I’m calm, and the next, I’m trying to rip an Omega’s throat for being clumsy. If it weren’t for Elias, I’d have ripped her throat out.The poor woman was terrified. Theia was the most shocked. She has never seen such a violent side of me, especially towards innocents. Still, they managed to calm me down.Elias says it’s the distance between Jaxson and me. I can’t help but disagree. Though these past few days without him felt incomplete and lonely, there’s something
“Are you avoiding me again?” I murmur.Jaxson freezes, his back turned to me as he attempts to disappear within the shadows of the forest. An entire day has passed, we separated the creatures into four factions. No one knows anything yet, and I can see it’s un-nerving many. Charming had yet to make an appearance. And Sophia is deciding on the best approach to handle revealing sensitive information.“You should rest. It’s been a long day,” I feel tempted to turn around and stare at the large house, but I know the second I do, Jaxson will be gone.Instead, I take a step forward. “You know, I felt you holding me. I felt your concern. Your fear. Your pain. I felt
“He’s your brother?” Sophia asks. I thought Iliana didn’t allow them to have bonds? Emree shakes her head, a soft – yet sad – smile displayed on her lips.“Not by blood. We were the only ones of our kind, so we were trained at the same facility. They taught us never to love – to care. We hid our sibling-like bond behind cruel words and empty threats to deceive our leader. It worked-… for a short time,” Emree explains, sadly.Iliana’s chair scrapes against the floor, maybe shocked they tricked her or angry she didn’t figure it out, “I order you to shut up! Leave,” Iliana hisses. I’m slightly shocked Emree listened without argument. As a Nymph, she’s can easily dominate
His blood stains my silvery-white dress red as I – Nia - takes his neck and tares our fangs into his throat, eating away like we’ve been starving. But the moment we take our first bite, we’re ripped away. Nia fights, growling like a feral, untamed animal. Her claws dig into the two large arms holding her back from her food, “what happening?!” Grayson snaps. Our eyes clash with his shocked ones, my jaws snapping open and shut trying to rip his throat out. I can see his veins pulsing with blood and life. I want it - need it. “Arghh…” growls, and drool and blood left my lips.Nia! Stop. Get back! Getaway!I scream, trying to dominate her, as I did once before. Bu
They stop and stare, Freya no longer present. Before anyone can say anything, we run. We bolt through the wall and land in the garden, and we don't stop. We continue to run, to hide, to escape. We're monsters!I've always killed in self-defence, and I had no problem doing it too. It weighed little on my conscience. Before I met Jaxson, there wasn't a day I had not killed. Every day was the same unending cycle of violence and bloodshed. To survive, I became no different to them. Maybe that's why I hated being considered 'different.'In the end, Kyro was right, 'to grow up around monsters - it's only right
Well shit, its the end!Damn, I really enjoyed writing this novel. I loved the lessons its taught me and I love the person I've become through writing this book. Especially Valerie. I love who she's become. I love she's finally able to trust those around her, I love that she continues to fight no matter how much times life interferes, intent and making her stay down!I wanted a character who doesn't hide their emotions, a character who embraces them but is also burdened by them. I wanted a character who wore her heart on her sleeve no matter how dangerous it was especially in a cruel world.I think thats what was so special about her, she wore her feeling like armour and it was beatiful and dark. And it was weak, and it was strong. And it was dangerous, and it was safe.Damn, what the fuck am I doing in my feeling?! I'm getting tiery eyed over here.Comment what you loved most about the novel in general and tell me who your favourite characte
A soft chuckle escapes my lips as a warm hand sits on my shoulder. I don't know why I'm laughing. But I can't help myself, and I can't stop. "Nieve..." "I-I'm s-sorry..." I try to stifle my laughter, holding my stomach as tears threaten to fall. Happy or sad - I have no fucking idea. Either way, I can't stop. She's gone. Theia's gone - as fate so cruelly ordained. I laugh - because once again, they won. Those three spinsters were playing with Theia's life like it was a game to them. They played with mine, and they played with Freya's. Theia, as the oldest sister - cursed, to only feel loneliness and death.
I blink, laying in a meadow that seems to reach for miles. My head on my arms, finding shapes in the clouds to occupy my thoughts. It feels nice here. It feels peaceful. I tilt my head to the side and reach out towards a Daisy when a familiar voice reaches my ears. "So, you're finally awake," I jump slightly, shocked by the intrusion into my thoughts. My mind and body relax instantly, recognising the voice. "Oh, it's just you. You scared me!" I accuse, a smile splitting across my face. She tilts her head, her arms wrapped behind her back, holding her smile. "Really? I'm sorry," she giggles, not at all sorry. Standing up, I brush the dirt off my dress only to tilt my head staring at myself for what feels like the first time. My hands, legs and feet - they're small? I realise I'm a kid again. Wait-... again? "I think I've been dreaming," I speak my thoughts without fear, holding her soft hazel orbs with my amethyst ones.
Nia withdraws back into the safety of my mind, so now I sit on the cave grounds watching in absolute shock the power extruding from Freya. It momentarily occurs to me I'm naked, but the current circumstances prevent me from caring.Freya tilts her head and stares at the roof, blinks, and it all shatters. Jaxson is already over me, holding me bridal style and disappearing into the blackness. But as soon as we all attempt to disappear, we're forced out. "Don't leave yet, little sister. You and I - we have a prophecy to fulfil," Freya chuckles, causing me to freeze."I won't let it come to pass," I snap. Even Freya's voice feels wrong to hear. As I look into her eyes, there is no light - only
There she is, sitting in a monk position, her eyes closed - waiting. A large blue and green bonfire burns behind her, its heat crawling across my skin but, it doesn't burn. Her long icy white hair cascades down her back and sits behind her on cave grounds, relaxed. I know she knows we're here. The cocky curve of her lips proves it.Sophia makes the first move, "Alikurda verous," her voice sounds deeper as her eyes turn blue. Her heels stomp into the ground, and the roof of the cave falls on to Freya.Freya stays in her position, her eyes remaining shut. The stones hover just inches above her head, and her eyes finally flutter open. She sneers, "do not mock me, Witch."She lifts
"Um... who the fuck are you?" A gorgeous woman sits on a chair. Her one leg crossed over the other appearing stoic. Damn, she looks like a warrior goddess - but who the fuck is she, and why is she sitting in my hideout like she owns the damn place?"I am Aurora, Nymph of wind," it suddenly clicks who she is - she's the one Kyro mentioned. In less than a second, her nose is just inches from mine."So... your Brother Kyro's Kefta?" She murmurs, assessing me carefully."Um, yeah - I guess. As nice as this meeting is, shouldn't you be fighting a war about 30 miles west from here?" I drawl. Aroura blinks and pulls away."Ahh, yes. Though Kyro didn't need to blackmail me into it, I w
"You shouldn't be able to do that! Voce de Oracle should only be used once, for a certain time-..." Freya laughs as if realisation dawns on her, "you think, once you're finished with me-... the Gods will let you live with such abilities at your disposal?! Now I understand why you must die, no matter how you planned this battle, the Carson Sisters must not exist - if Fate wills it so!""Say what you will, Freya - I won't fight with you," I spit. Maybe she's right. But I've already made my peace with death - haven't I?No! I'm supposed to return to Theia. I'm supposed to confess to Jaxson. I want to live, but not if it means joining forces with Freya. Before I can say a word, Kyro's hand sits on my shoulder, "Kyro, what are you...?" Freya begins, but we disap
Nia's eyes bleed through mine as power sizzles and cackles around me, "Charge!" Freya seethes.I take a couple of steps forward and make a foreign symbol with my hands that I somehow knew. As I continue to walk, clouds of purple mist float out of me. My body becomes transparent - like a ghost. And Nia's spirit stands tall beside me as we continue to walk.Charming suddenly appears beside me, words of compulsion breezing past his lips that make the mud creatures go crazy. Jaxson and Grayson are next as Sophia floats above us, and with us - our army follows.Slow at first, only to start running. Faster and faster. With every step closer, our purpose only grows fiercer. We clash!&
"Emree! Take Theia to Bloodhound. She'll be safe in my father's office, far enough from here," I order, pushing Theia towards Emree, but Theia resists holding onto my arm."No! I'm staying with you!" She yells. Her gaze burns into mine with determination. I can hear shouts and scream coming from the distance, and I resist the urge to run towards it, falling on to my knees beside Theia to cup her small face."Listen to me, do you trust me?" I ask. She blinks, taken by surprise."Of course I do, but I want to protect you. What if something happens...!" Theia falls into a rant. I can clearly see worry reflect in her eyes."Look, whatever happens, happens. I can't predict the end o
