Chapter Twenty

Valerie still had not heard from Damien by the time she was ready to leave the campus, and it bothered her more than she was ready to admit. Shoving her stuff into her briefcase, she snatched up her purse and headed for the parking lot and her escape into the weekend. She highly doubted she would have any alone time with Damien now simply because Holly would be there, as well, having the weekends off. That thought made her even more depressed as she weaved her way through the campus corridors toward her car. She wished she knew what he was thinking, at least. He could have warned her that he would be quiet for a while, which would have calmed her down. It was the silence that drove her crazy.

“Valerie,” a woman called out from behind her, causing Valerie to stop and turn.

She noticed Keith’s receptionist, Ivy Anderson, walking toward her, obviously picking up the pace as she drew nearer, her short, blond hair bouncing slightly as she walked.
