Chapter Forty

She had enjoyed dinner out with her brother last night, and as Jake promised, the subject of her involvement with Damien had been dutifully dropped. She knew he still had questions, doubts even, but for the time being he kept them to himself. Returning home well after eight, she texted Nick, telling him an abbreviated version of her afternoon and evening, letting him know that she was going to take a shower and go to bed. She would see him in the morning and hoped he had a good night.

He never texted back.

She finally crawled into bed, wishing she could ask Damien how his night had gone, if he had talked to Holly about them and how she had responded if he had. The fact that the redhead hadn’t met her at the door, however, pretty much guaranteed that Damien hadn’t said a word, which told her they were still in the same boat as they were before she told him.
