Lucius stood up to give his respect the moment he saw us. He wasn't happy to see Mason, though, but he did not voice it. Everyone knew we were a package deal. I guess Lucius did not get the memo.

We were offered a place to seat, and a waiter came to take our order. We ordered coffee.

"Their Pizza sucks here," Lucius said.

"And whose fault is that?" Mason asked him almost laughing. I could tell my friend was really holding himself. I did not know why they brought up Pizza because no one ordered it, but the two of them seemed to understand why, which made me figure it was either a private joke or jab. Whichever it was, Lucius seemed to be at the receiving end.

"So why the S.O.S?" I asked Lucius, and he cleared his throat and leaned forward to whisper, which was unnecessary because Mason owned the place, but I allowed it.

"You guys were right. We shouldn't have trusted Derin," he said, tears welling up in his eyes.
