Katie's POV
We instantly went outside the training grounds and watched as tons of blood were spilled. They look like they are looking for something or someone, but at the same time, the rogues were attacking almost any she-wolf they saw. We saw a lot of rogues today, unlike what we have seen so far. In the past, they only attacked alone, or at least three of them together. But now, it was a bunch of wolves; I estimated that around eight of them were there. I saw Alpha and Luna fighting off together as the other wolves also collectively fought. The rogue wolves that were attacking were as big as a Beta or even an Alpha. All eight of them are incredibly huge. The three of us heard a young girl yell near us when it was about to be attacked, but Khalid jumped out to bite the rogue, and Jessica picked up the girl with her mouth to safety. After doing so, she came back to help Khalid and gnawed its left leg so it would lose the strength in its leg.
"Katie! Behind you!" I heard Rose warn, but before she did, I could already sense the rogue and dodged the attack with no delay. I then tried to stab its nose and was successful in doing so, which made the wolf howl in pain. It glared at me and was about to bite me. I braced myself for the impact, letting my arm show so that it would take the bait. Only, both Rose and Percy chomped its neck from each side, and successfully, we killed the wolf.
"What on earth are you thinking about!?" Rose hissed at me, mad that I was in danger and almost got killed.
"Sparring with us is one thing, but that was plain stupid and reckless, Katie! You cannot heal like we do!" Percy furiously reminded. I know he was uterly worried about my well-being, but that was a huge slap for me. It reminded me of that day ten years ago. But I swallowed my pride and let it slide. I won't let my emotions be the best of me and blurt out some words that may hurt them.
"I'm sorry, but I had a plan. I won't let it kill me." I apologized so that they would calm down and refocus our energy on saving other young wolves that cannot defend themselves in a safe place.
"This conversation is far from over, Katie." Rose sighed, and we promptly ran to help other wolves. We killed one; Khalid and Jessica also killed one, while Alpha, Luna, and Beta also killed one each. I was deeply amazed by the three of them; they killed one huge wolf on their own. Even though they are now cruel and harsh to me, I am still happy they protected the pack. Five down, that leaves three to go; if I am right that they were eight. I saw a couple of warrior wolves kill two of them, and that leaves one. We surrounded the last one so that it wouldn't escape. It keeps on growling hungrily and is ready to chomp on us at any time. But of course it was extremely careful and hesitated to attack since it was the only one left.
"Catch him alive. We need information." Alpha Fredrick dominantly ordered. All of them growled in agreement, and I just nodded. I guessed it sensed me since it looked in my direction and snarled. It ran towards me in a swift movement as I heard Khalid shouting. With just a split second, it hovered on top of me.
"You!!!" it huffed. He was about to munch my neck with the intent to kill.
Desperately reaching for my dagger as it clattered away from me. He jumped on top. Once my hand felt it, I aimed for its eye. He backed away and groaned in pain. I may not be able to shift, but there is no way in hell I would be killed so easily! I won't back down without a fight.
The corner of my eye saw Khalid, Jessica, Percy, and Rose. They bit its legs and stomach with no remorse.
"Don't kill!!" Alpha Fredrick yelled to remind them, and the four of them immediately retreated. I felt they were proud and satisfied with what they did to the wolf who tried to kill me. I stood up with Khalid and the others following me. They were a distance away because they were scared some others might strike my back.
"Now. Let's interrogate this motherfucker." Alpha Fredrick growled, and two of the warrior wolves dragged the rogue to the interrogating room.
But one rogue suddenly leaped at the back of Alpha Fredrick. He was about to rip Alpha Fredrick's throat out. As if by reflex, I slashed its back as it groaned in pain. He leaped out and started to defend himself from me. With all my weight, I leaped on top of him, but he wouldn't fall. I ended up on his back as he was trying to get me off of him. Holding a handful of his fur in my left palm, and the free one jabs its neck. The dagger repeatedly skewered his neck, causing the blood to splatter on my face. Finally, it exhaled its last breath and tumbled to the ground. I used my arm to lift myself up and noticed that all of them froze in place. Whisking my dagger so that the blood will come off.
"Are you okay, princess!?" Khalid was most likely in shock at my appearance as he ran in my direction. Maybe he was really troubled since he instinctively called me by that nickname. But it felt nice hearing it from him again. I nodded, and he hugged me tightly. I could feel Jessica's warm body against mine, indicating that she joined in to also hug me.
"All of you worry too much." I chuckled and tapped Khalid's back.
"Khalid. Jessica. Now." Alpha Fredrick hissed at them. Wow, not even a simple 'thank you'? I basically saved his throat! Khalid patted my head. They quickly wolfed out and ran as they followed Alpha Fredrick. Since only a few are allowed in there, and obviously I am not one of them. Me, Percy, and Rose just stayed behind. I just took a quick glance at my brother and was about to go to my old cabin, but he came back and snagged my arm. I winced in pain, and he sighed, "Come with me."
Before I could even protest, he basically dragged me to the interrogating room. Alpha and Luna were already nowhere in sight. Maybe they are checking the perimeters alongside other wolves. Only me, Khalid, and the last rogue were here. He went out to grab some first-aid kits. Told me to stay here and keep an eye on the rogue.
The rogue was chained with silver cuffs and shackles. Stenching with wolf's bane was the only proof needed to signify he was forced to drink one. He lifted his head, and a disturbing smile was plastered on his face.
"You already met him, huh?"
"Who?" My brows furrowed at his sudden query.
"The Devil. The one that will end us all." The creepy grin on his face was now gone as he added, "But if you already met him, then.."
He immediately shut his mouth when my brother arrived. I glanced back at the rogue, my eyes looking for answers. Only, he didn't even spare me a glimpse as he hung down his head again.
Khalid patched up my wounds and cuts that the rogues managed to graze. Alpha Fredrick then came back together with Luna Kathrina and the other wolf guards. It was evident that he wasn't happy that I was here, but chose to deal with the rogue first. They tortured him for his confession. But they failed to extract answers. Alpha Fredrick was so pissed off that he ordered the guards to drag the rogue outside. He insisted on humiliating the rogue with a public execution. The worst possible death for a prideful bunch of beast like us.
He was hung outside like a scarecrow. Forced to shift in his human form earlier because of the wolf's bane. Pack members gathered to witness this scene, except for the young and the elderly.
A wolf guard starts to lash him with a silver whip. The rogue just froze there as if it didn't hurt him one bit. The executioner wolves were ordered to go get the two silver swords that are usually used for condemning criminals on death row. These swords are long and heavy. As it was dragged by the headsman, the rogue slowly lifted his head. His eyes were dirty white, and with a blank face, he spoke..
"A curse will befall one unwanted
As she will be what the devil wanted
For she is his omega
And his world will be in great dilemma"
The moment he breathed the last word, the blade was plunged into his heart. The other one to behead him.
Instead of celebrating, all of the pack members were confused as they all stared at me. For I was the one he peered at as he kept on saying those phrases.
The most sinister part is that even with his head on the ground, his dead eyes are still fixed on me.
Khalid's POV"Happy sixteenth birthday, Katie!"The four of us greeted her as she blew out her cake. She hugged me so tight. A gesture I'll never get tired of feeling.Percy and Rose gifted her some daggers and a whip. Katie even managed to joke that maybe she'd work as an executioner for other packs. I clenched my fists. I'll never let her get banished today.Jessica came forward and softly held my sister's wrist. By the time she removed her hand, a crescent moon bracelet had been placed. Katie smiles so sweetly while thanking my mate. Placing a knee down in front of her, all of them gasped except Jessica. Since she already knew about this. The gesture means that I'll sacrifice everything for her.. To surrender my freedom for her safety. I did this when I proposed to Jessica, and this is the last time I'll ever do it again. My sister and mate are the only ones that I want to protect with my life.I locked my gift at her foot. It is a crescent moon anklet. The only difference is that
Katie's POV"Hey! Little Miss Princess! You missed a spot here!" The head maid screeched like a banshee. Goddess, after almost two years of working here, I still haven't gotten used to her voice. Her pitch is so high that it can make someone's ears bleed. I'm not even exaggerating! One of the reasons maids are retiring is mostly because of her voice. They just make excuses that it is about the workload.Lifting up the bucket, I mopped the area in which she insists on having a spot of dirt. My stomach is now like a washing machine. Churning and rumbling in hunger. When was the last time I had a decent meal? The head maid orders me to clean from a small place up to the biggest rooms every chance she gets. I could only eat properly if any of those four would give me food. But they are extremely busy nowadays. Every time they gave me food and asked if I had been eating properly, I always lied and said that I was. They argue that I'm getting thinner and always raise that concern the second
Katie's POVToday was my long-awaited day off. I went back to my cabin, as I had oddly missed this place. Alpha Fredrick has been quite relentless these days. It seems like he was preparing for something. There are three days left before my eighteenth birthday. Rumors spread fast, like selling hot pancakes, that he would really banish me this time around. I laughed at the thought that maybe he's preparing for a grand send-off ceremony. Although that is impossible.Suddenly, a laugh surrounds me.. Or is it in my head??"Who's there?" I demanded, slipping my hand into my pocket to feel my dagger, ready for any surprise attack. A minute or two had passed, but nothing—not even a gust of wind. I sighed. Relieved that, at least for now, I am safe, considering that in the next three days will be my eighteenth birthday, and word has come out that they will really banish me this time around."Mate will come!" I was not prepared for the sudden shriek. I was doubting myself awhile ago, but now I
Katie's POV"Katie, did you hear? The entire wolf's population had been declining!" Rose informed with an urgent tone but is speaking quietly. In an instant, my head sharply turned towards her. Kath was also quite startled by the uodate. Although a little earlier, my wolf was so excited and in bliss as she met my two best pals. The only sad thing is that she cannot converse with them. Khalid said that ordinary wolves should not know the truth about Alphas and Lunas communicating with their wolf counterparts. In fear of the dark history repeating itself. In the past, ordinary wolves were jealous about it. Tried their best to do the same thing, but bloodshed occurred. Alphas killed off those who knew about the secret, and until now, only the leaders knew of it."What do you mean?" My face turned dark with the dispatch. I am concerned about it. It is quite troubling and odd."Allegedly, only Khael and a few kids from other packs were born for this generation," Percy explained. They told m
Katie's POVThe party was about to start. Yesterday was such a mess. Thankfully, Khalid and Jessica came together with Khael. I don't care how weak I sound, but I really relied on my brother at that time. He was beyond mad and punished Lexie and the others. I didn't ask for the details but was told they weren't killed due to beta and gamma's interference. Well, I don't want them dead either. Just want them to learn their lessons. It is also because of the rising issue of the declining population. Won't be seeing them anyway, so it's a win-win.Kath shared that Khan wanted to thank us. She explained to me the concept of the mind-link.Apparently, it was my brother's longtime wish. For me to ask for help. All this time, he was the one offering. I was stuck on being brave just so my brother wouldn't worry about me, but it seems to do the exact opposite. He was worried that I kept it all to myself and was afraid that I would burst and breakdown alone. That is why it felt like a huge burden
Katie's POV"Wait!" I yelled. Even tried to yank my arms away with Kath's strength. But they are ridiculously strong and quite girthy. Also, it seems Kath is preparing for something—resting, to be precise."It isn't even midnight yet! And why am I getting pulled into the prohibited forest?! If it's me getting exiled, then it should be to the safer parts of the woods at least!" I argued, but they both chuckled."You really thought Alpha Fredrick wouldn't know that you had been planning to escape before the banishment?!" One wolf guard jeered as I gaped. How did he know!? There is only one logical explanation: Khalid's friend betrayed him. My heart is thumping loudly as, step by step, we are nearing the woods."Let me go!" I screamed and stood still, but they both just carried me in the air. All while still grasping my arms. Now I look like a complete idiot, kicking the air. Once we were by the entrance, they pushed me into the ground."You look really pretty today.." One male wolf whist
Vladimyr's POVEver since that encounter in the southern woods, I have not told anyone about her. Not even my little siblings, Sebastian and even Lucifer, my counterpart. The first time I saw her, she was still a little kid. Only saved her at the time because I feared starting yet another war as the western monarch's homunculus attacked her. But when I saw her perturbed face, I unconsciously made a promise to come and get her once she was at least old enough to make decisions for herself. A feeling of both pity and amusement. She was really brave for a five-year-old she-wolf."My Lord. I'm afraid I cannot let you pass. You are going to go see that wolf again." The castle's ever-loyal butler, Sebastian, blocked me from leaving my work office when he noticed that my desk was clean, signifying that I was getting ready to leave. Each time my body can sense that Sebastian's away, I sneak out to visit her just to see how she's doing. If she's finally okay, then maybe she can stay in her pack
Katie's POVThe wolves from my pack growled at us and were shaking the tree that we were on. Geez, and I was having a moment together with my mate. I just found him after what seems like a century!Although I did have an encounter with him, and sometimes I can feel he's near. Just watching in the shadows of the prohibited forest. Looking out for me.The wolves won't let me rest, even if it's just for a single second. They caught us off guard, and I almost fell, but he pulled my hand and swiftly carried me again in his arms with no difficulty. We then transferred to another branch. Another small pack of wolves arrived and was holding some spears and arrows. Since when did they learn how to hold those weapons? And where on Goddess did it come from? I just thought that Alpha Fredrick mind-linked all of them. They lit up fire in torches and prepared silver cuffs and chains, but they held them over a cloth to prevent the silver from burning their skins. The most funny thing they brought was
Katie’s POVBoth of us snapped back to focus on the fight when we heard some powerful crackles.Victoria’s eyes glinted with a playful ferocity, her fangs peeking out as she smirked at Vladimyr. "Come on, brother, is that all you’ve got?" she taunted, her voice laced with a dare. She held her hands out, and a circle of fire spun to life around her, casting a warm glow that made her look almost ethereal. Now, she is just riling up said brother. And here I thought they do not want him to go all out, but I guess they’d rather lose than win with pity. I know that because I am the same. But still, from their point of view, it really is frustrating if you cannot beat a strong opponent. Although, in tough times it makes you feel proud and secure because you know that the very same spar opponent will protect you ‘til the very end; will do anything and just about everything to keep his loved ones safe.Oh dear. I am now seriously just gushing over my mate.I heard Vladimyr chuckled darkly. Un
Katie’s POV“Can I?” He mumbled. Hot breath fanning across my face as he towered over me. My lips were shaking but I responded.. Maybe a little bit too eager. Hoping I wasn’t that obvious because in my head, it really sounds like I’m begging and waiting for it my entire life. “Y-yes. I want you to.”He growled. Too deeply and dark and his pupils dilated. His hands on my waist and he is almost burying his nails. Almost. How I wish he really did. I moaned at that thought. “Careful with your words, omega.” Then, he rutted against me. Oh. Oh. I could feel his erected bulge. So strong. So hard. This is heaven on earth, indeed. My head is filled with muddled thoughts of him finally staking his claim on me.And it is merely dry humping that makes me think and feel this way…Good Goddess what had become of me?At one specific delicious thrust, I moaned and he grunted. Both of us are now panting. Like beasts in heat. But barely there yet. It seems like he won’t go all the way.. I whined, h
Katie’s POVThe twins were about to cheer when Vladimyr’s deep voice cut them off. “Absolutely not!”I sighed and crossed my arms. Here we go again.. “And why is that?”“You still need rest, omega.” He tried to argue with a stern voice. Normally, I would let go and do what he wants, but really, my bum hurts, and I really wanted to go for a walk. Even more so to see them spar! I felt like it had been eons since I'd set my foot on the ground.‘Talk about being so dramatic.’ My wolf snickered. I snorted and shot back, ‘Hey! You have been complaining too!’‘I know, I know. And you’re right. I wanna stretch my legs and go for a run, but our mate is being so overprotective..again.’ She whimpered.‘Kath, he meant no harm. Besides, mates are supposed to be overprotective.’ I giggled internally, and she rolled her eyes. ‘Now look who’s protecting whom.’ Kath chuckled as she slowly rested at the back of my mind. I turned to said overprotective mate and genuinely smiled. Even went as far as to fl
Katie's POVA gentle murmur reached my ears, pulling me out of the haze. My body felt heavy, yet there was a sense of warmth, a safe cocoon enveloping me. I blinked my eyes open, the world still blurry around the edges as I tried to focus on the voices surrounding me.“Sssh. We shouldn’t be too loud! Hence you will wake her! And I will kill you both if she is interrupted from her rest!” Tori. Her high-pitched whisper was unmistakable, laced with excitement. I could almost imagine her bouncing on her toes and fisting her tiny cute hands.“Oh please, Tori. You are the one who’s too loud,” came Rori’s voice, sounding slightly annoyed but amused. I smiled faintly, letting the familiarity of their banter ground me. But then another, deeper voice cut through, firm and authoritative. “I believe I told the two of you to hush or else scram. You are disturbing my Lady’s rest.” Vladimyr. I felt my heart flutter at the sound of his voice, smooth yet protective. I wanted to reach out, to say so
Katie’s POVThe air crackled with energy as Vlad’s voice echoed through the chamber, powerful and unyielding. My heart soared at the sight of him, my fierce protector, the love of my life. My mate and my heart… yet dread lurked in the back of my mind.Fear. Anxiousness. What if this was his plan all along? To use me as bait just so he could get Vladimyr? Or.. Lucifer?Thalion merely smirked, seemingly unfazed by Vlad’s entrance.“Oh, how touching,” Thalion taunted, folding his arms with a mockingly amused expression. “You have come to save your little wolf. But tell me, Lucifer, how does it feel to have so much to lose? So much to lose, again?”Vladimyr stepped forward, his blood red eyes blazing with rage as Lucifer took over. “You do not get to play with her, Thalion. This ends now.”With a sudden movement, Thalion raised his hand, summoning dark tendrils of shadow that snaked toward Lucifer like vipers. They lunged at him, aiming to ensnare him in their grasp. But with a swift moti
Katie’s POV“Stop calling me that!” I hissed. Thalion merely chuckled and eyes wide in amusement. Clearly having fun with riling me up. Which in turn, frustrates the hell out of me. My thoughts raced as I glared at Thalion, trying to keep calm despite the fear twisting inside me. Every word he spoke dripped with calculated malice, designed to unnerve me, to plant seeds of doubt and dread. I clenched my fists, focusing on the here and now, even as questions clawed at my mind. What secrets was he talking about? What unfinished business did he have with Lucifer? I hope I will live long as to know and hear the reason from Vlad and Luci themselves. As Thalion took a step closer, I felt the cold emanating from him, a chill that seeped into my very bones. “You are brave. I will give you that, you mutt.” he mused, tilting his head slightly as if examining a curious specimen. As if I were just an entertainment to him. “I see why Vladimyr.. Lucifer, is so taken with you. But bravery has its li
Katie’s POVWhat on earth did he mean by that? How could that happen? Is such a thing even possible? Lucifer was… his?The weight of the man’s words sank into my mind, twisting and turning, creating cracks in the reality I thought I knew. I turned to Vladimyr, my heart pounding erratically. His presence flared beside me, his body rigid with tension. I could feel his rage building, growing stronger with every second that passed. But.. there was also a tad bit of vulnerability there. His deep, dark voice vibrated through the air, a growl that sent chills down my spine, “Shut up!”But the man—or figure—or whatever it was, didn’t move. He stood there with a sinister smirk, his eyes fixed on Vladimyr as if relishing the power he held in that single moment. His dark form seemed to pulse with ancient magic, something older than Vladimyr, something dangerous. “Why?” His voice was soft, mocking, “Afraid that this weak wolf might leave you, huh? Just like how all of your so-called ‘heart’ or ‘m
Katie’s POV“How on devil’s breath did they get this far without any of us noticing!?” Vlad nearly growled at Sebastian whilst both of us stood up from our seats quickly. We were about to teleport but Sebastian spoke.“He is here, my Lord.”Those five words were enough to halt and freeze my mate. I looked at him in confusion and for the first time since I saw him, he actually looked so troubled. Like really really troubled as if he is concerned of what I might think or say…“Vlad? Who is it?” I gently cooed. Trying to be mindful of his reactions and emotions. I don’t want to mess this up and scare him away instead of confiding in me.“No one.” He hissed as he looked away and we both knew that whatever or whoever is this is not a mere “no one” and he is obviously lying. Anyone could see that with the way he moved and the way he won’t even meet my gaze. I still looked at him though, searching for his eyes and silently begging for him to grace me with his attention. But he merely tells
Katie’s POVHe grumbled something under his breath, but I could see the smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, still grinning.. Despite his attempts to be insufferable, I knew he was happy to see me embracing my role as duchess, even if it meant I couldn’t always be by his side. To be fair he is quite busy too.Once I was dressed, I moved to the mirror to fix my hair, smoothing down the unruly waves that had formed overnight. Vladimyr watched me from the bed, his eyes dark and intense as he obviously oogled, making it hard for me to concentrate.“You are staring,” I pointed out, trying to keep my voice steady. He didn’t look away. “Can you blame me? You are breathtaking, my Lady...”My cheeks flushed at his words, and I quickly turned away before he could see just how much his compliment affected me. “Flattery will get you nowhere, Vladimyr.”He chuckled, the sound low and rich. “Is that so?”Ignoring his teasing, I finished with my hair and turned to face him. “I will see you dow
