Diane sat in her office, her eyes focused on the papers in front of her as she tried to shuffle them together and arrange them. She had no idea what she was doing though. All she knew was that she needed to pack up before Nicholas came to pick her up for their date. But she couldn't concentrate. Her mind kept wandering and the only thought it kept wandering to was that of Malvika. She kept thinking of Malvika. It had been two weeks since she saw Malvika last, since Malvika basically told her without mincing words that she didn't want to have any thing to do with Diane or her family for now. Why? She wondered but she couldn't come up with an answer. Why will Malvika pick now, of all times, to cut off ties with her family? What happened? What went wrong? But Malvika had not been forthcoming with any reply. Instead, she and insisted that Nicholas and Diane go home and not contact her. But Diane, being Diane, had tried to call her when she arrived back at New York all to no avail. Malvik
"Ardelle, stop it," Malvika called out to the six year old girl who was by the kitchen table, dipping all of her fingers into the flour and rubbing it on her face. Ardelle looked up and grinned cheekily at Malvika who sighed and walked towards her. She grabbed the kid and placed her between the ten year old sister – Keisha and the four year old brother – Anthony. Keisha, Ardelle and Anthony were Haley's nieces and nephew, the kids Malvika was babysitting. She had gotten the job, thanks to Haley and she had been working for about two weeks now. She couldn't really say that she enjoyed the job, especially since she wasn't an expert with kids but the pay was great and so, Malvika didn't complain. She still kept her job as a waitress at the restaurant though, not because she enjoyed it but because it gave her an opportunity to earn more money when she wasn't taking care of Keisha, Ardelle and Anthony.Right now, she was trying to bake doughnuts for the kids. After binge watching almost e
Diane twirled in front of the mirror, her face beaming with smiles. She was dressed in sleeveless red dress that hugged her body and showed off all her curves. Natasha stood beside her, her eyes roaming around Diane's reflection in the mirror. "Okay, you look fabulous."Diane giggled. "I know." She was so excited. She and Nicholas were going on another of their many dates and she couldn't help feeling giddy. Things were finally looking up in their relationship. They were taking it slow, just going on dates and Nicholas was so attentive and sweet. "Nick is going to be so excited to see you. You look like you just stepped out of a runway," Natasha commented. Diane rolled her eyes. "Okay, enough with the flatteries, Natasha. I need help with my shoes and jewelries.""Help, coming right up," Natasha replied dramatically as she bounced towards the shoe rack. She scanned the shoes with her eyes. "Okay, okay. This is a little too flashy," she said, touching a bright pink heels. She touched
Malvika pushed the door to the house open, relieved that neither Haley not Sharon were in the living room, and headed to her room. The house was one she shared with Haley and Sharon (Haley's friend). She had moved in about a week ago and it had been nice having them around. They were nice to her and they treated her like a friend. Usually, whenever she came back from work, Sharon was always cooking her something to eat and she liked that. But not today. Today, she didn't want to see anyone. Clutching her bag in her hand, she headed for the toilet that they all shared. As soon as she walked in, she slammed the door close. She dug her hands into her bag and brought out the pregnancy test kit she had bought earlier today. She tore it open and picked out the stick. ------------After about three torturous minutes, Malvika opened her eyes and raised the stick to her face. A wave of panic crashed over her as she saw the two lines on the stick. All that kept ringing in her head was 'shit,
"Does Diane know I'm going to be here," Natasha asked Nicholas as they both climbed out of the car. Nicholas opened the back doors and the two of them grabbed the nylons and shopping bags on the seats. They walked towards the door."No," Nicholas replied. "She doesn't know," he said. "You are supposed to help me prepare for the date and she can't know about it, remember?""So, when she comes, am I going to sneak back out or what?""I don't know. You can do anything you want," he answered and she frowned. "Maybe going back home will be a good idea," he added and she nodded. As he pushed the door open and walked in, Natasha asked, "So, what's so special about this date that you want to make it a surprise?""Well..... drop the bags on the table," he instructed and she did as he said. "I'm just.... I'm thinking of asking her to move back in with me," he muttered. Natasha whirled around, stunned by his words. "You want her to move in with you," she repeated and he nodded. "Yeah, I want
"Good morning ma'am," the nurse standing behind the counter greeted Malvika in a brisk, Curt but polite tone. She glanced up at Malvika, her eyebrows quirked up. "How may I help you?""I'm here for a pregnancy test," Malvika answered in the quiet time that she had been using the past few days. It had been three days since she took a pregnancy test at home. Haley and Sharon had advised her to take a proper test at the hospital to confirm first but she had been so reluctant to do it. It felt so much better to leave be in denial than to come out and face reality. But eventually, she realized that she couldn't continue running away from it. She needed to face the reality. "I'm here for the pregnancy test," she repeated and watch as the woman's brows shot up in a judgmental look. "I heard the first time," she answered, taking a subtle glance at Malvika's fingers. She drew out a drawer and brought a form. "Why don't you fill this out form first?" she asked. Malvika collected the form. "Al
Natasha had expected that the date would end in two hours or even less if Nicholas popped the question because she was so sure that Diane would turn him down and she just couldn't wait to hear all about it. It might seem a little mean or wicked but Natasha didn't think Diane and Nicholas should move in together just yet. They still had a lot of things to work out and one of them being Nicholas' crazy younger sister, Jenny. But after waiting for about three hours and yet not seeing Diane or even hearing from her, Natasha started to feel a little concerned. Did something happen to Diane on the way? Was she kidnapped? Was she robbed? Did she get into an accident? Was she in danger? It never occurred to Natasha that the reason Diane was late could be that she accepted to move in with Nicholas. It e=never occurred to her. She was so sure that Diane would turn his request down. But then five hours later, Diane was still nowhere to be found. Starting to feel anxious and worried, Natasha sna
Nicholas jogged down the stairs in a pair of sweatpants and vest. He wanted to move to the kitchen but he stopped when the door opened and Ashley walked in. A frown appeared on his face. "Ashley? What are you doing here?" He asked, surprised and tensed. He hadn't seen Ashley in a while. He had made sure to tell her to stay away from him. So, why was she here now? He was pretty sure that whatever she came to do or say wasn't something good. "Hey Nicholas," she said in a sweet, calm voice. "Did you miss me?""No," he snapped. "What do you want?"She hesitated, staring at him. "I'm here to apologize," she said. "I'm sorry for everything."Nicholas was taken aback by her words. She was sorry? Sorry? That didn't sound like Ashley at all. Ashley was not the kind of person to apologize for anything. The word 'sorry' wasn't in her dictionary. Nicholas was pretty sure he could count the number of times Ashley apologized for anything while they were dating. Clearing his throat, he tried to fin
Diane stood in front of the bathroom mirror, her heart thumping wildly, her hands shaking as she unwrapped the pregnancy test packet. She lowered herself into the toilet seat, raising up her dress and pulling down her panties. Closing her eyes, she placed the pregnancy test instrument beneath and let the urine flow on it and into the toilet. Then, she placed it back on the counter and waited. Just a year ago, and some months after Diane’s kidnap, Malvika delivered her baby boy in an hospital and just as she had promised, she gave that baby to Diane and Nicholas. The baby was named Cameron Alan Langston. Some months after birthing her child, Malvika left as she had said she would and took off for Florida to continue her life despite pleas from her sisters – Natasha and Diane. Diane had been raising Cam for a year and she was enjoying every moment of it. But recently she had begun to feel feverish – vomiting all over the house. No food could stay in her belly. At first she thought it wa
A slight sound of movement outside made Diane open her eyes. The entire room was still dark as there was no space for illumination. Her hands and feet were still bound together. Her neck hurt from having bending them in one position for a very long time. The mosquitoes in the room kept biting her and the notes were painful. She had been unable to sleep for a while even with her eyes closed, so when she heard movement in front of the door, her eyes flew open. She fixed her gaze on the door, sensing movements behind it. Her heartbeat increased in fear as she was unable to tear her gaze away from the door. Her fear heightened when someone started to bang something on the door. She began to struggle with her chains, unable to move. “Help!” she yelled. “Somebody, help me!” But the banging increased, until the door was pushed open. She opened her mouth and let out a loud scream when she saw the uniformed men armed to the bones barging in, “Ahhhhhhh…….” “Ma'am, please you can calm down,” On
"Ashley?!" Nicholas exclaimed. Ashley glanced up, her eyes grief and fear stricken. She pushed at the hair that were sticking to her face because of the tears. "Nicholas," she gasped behind her cuffed hands. "Oh my God, Nicholas you are here. I missed you!" She cried. "What are you doing here, Ashley?" Nicholas asked, still shocked and confused. "How....how did you get here?" "I....I was arrested," she mumbled. "For what? How? What did you do?" He threw a series of questions at her, all of which she did not answer. He stared at her, a small frown on his face as something finally clicked. "The cops said they arrested a couple of people who turned out to be a gang. They got an address from these guys and when they got there they found.....you?" He was shocked.....and although he was able to piece it together, he was still very much confused. "I'm sorry," Ashley whispered. "For?" "What happened," she cried. "I....I didn't know at first. She didn't tell me we were going to kill her
Diane slowly opened her eyes. She let out a soft groan of pain as she tried to adjust herself on the ground. Her hands kept pulling against the cuffs. She glances around, shuffling her legs. The entire room was dark, except for the ray of light coming in beneath the door. She had spent almost two days in this hell hole that Jenny and Derek had locked her up in. Just yesterday, one of Jenny's goons had placed a call to her family, demanding a ransom. Diane let out a pant. She was feeling hungry and thirsty. Not only that, her entire body was in serious pains. Her body ached to the marrow and she had this massive headache that forced her to wince from time to time. She could not wait to get out of here, yet she had no idea how she would get out. The doors and windows were locked, her hands and feet were handcuffed and there was absolutely no way that she could free herself. Her best and only option was to wait for Nicholas to pay the ransom so she could be released. Just then, the door
“Hey,” Malvika said as she walked down the stairs tiredly. Natasha was sprawled on the couch, tired from her constant crying. Her eyes were red and her cheeks looked swollen. Malvika walked towards her and sat beside her. “Hey, are you still crying?” She asked, looking around the living room. She saw Nicholas standing by the door, talking lowly to someone on the phone. “I’m too tired to cry,” Natasha answered weakly. Her weeping had seeped out every of her energy. She pulled herself to sit up. “What do you think happened to her? She said she was going out and all of a sudden, we couldn’t find her. How did that happen?” “Okay, I need you to calm down,” Malvika said. “The cops are doing everything they can and Nicholas and I are trying our hardest best to find her. We are going to find her, okay?” Malvika tried to reassure her younger sister. She sounded sure of herself, but deep down, her insides crawled with doubt and fear. What if they were never able to find her? Was she so sure th
“Yeah, I don’t think that’s going to be possible,” Jenny says into her phone, pulling the cigarette away from her lips and blowing out a puff of smoke. She was seated on the chair, her legs crossed out in front of her as she listened to her brother ask her to come to the house. “Nick, I really appreciate the invite, but I’m sorry, I’m not going to be able to make it. And by the way, I’m really sorry about Diane.” After a while, she hung up and threw the phone on the table, letting out a sigh. “Nicholas?” Ashley asked as she flipped through a magazine. She glanced up at Jenny, raising her brow. “Yeah.” Jenny let out an exaggerated sigh. “He wants me to come over today,” she said, rolling her eyes. “I’m not going though. I’m in the middle of something,” she said, blowing out a ring of smoke while Ashley chuckled. “Why can’t we go, though?” “We?” Jenny raised a brow? “Who’s we?” she asked. “You and I of course.” “Okay cute, but he didn’t invite both of us. He invited me, his sister.
Malvika sat in front of the car with Nicholas, her nose pressed on to the window as she was deep in thoughts. Beside her, Nicholas drove as carefully as he could, the both of them thinking about Diane. He was driving her to the restaurant where Diane’s cat was found. She had an inkling of what the restaurant was or who might be behind the kidnap but she needed to confirm it first.“What are you thinking about?” Nicholas asked, breaking the silence. She pursed her lips, turning to look at him. Then, she answers, “I might know who could be Diane’s disappearance,” she answered, slowly and carefully, watching his face for any reaction. He darted a surprised glance in her direction. “Really? Who?”“You are not going to be happy about this,” Malvika answerez. She paused, before finally saying, “Jenny.”“What?!” Nicholas sharply pulled the brake of the car in shock, halting it. A loud honk resonated behind them as a car drove angrily past them. “Sorry!” Nicholas called out, before turning ba
“Any news?” Natasha asked as she descended the stairs with Alyssa behind her. Her eyes were red from tears and she rubbed her cheeks to clean them off. Malvika and Grace were seated on the couch in the living room. Olivia was spread across Grace’s leg, sleeping peacefully. They had all stayed in the living room, waiting to here from Diane but heard nothing.Malvika shook her head. “No. Mark and Nick went to the station this morning,” she said.Natasha sighed, slumping on the chair. Alyssa sat down quietly beside her. “But where did she go?”“No one knows.”“She told me she wanted to receive a phone call,” Grace informed them, rubbing her hands slowly round her daughter, Olivia’s back. “That was all. I didn’t see her again.”“Her car isn’t in the garage,” Malvika said. “So, she went with her car.”“But someone must have seen her leave.”Malvika sighed. “We didn’t and we don’t even know who to ask. Hopefully, Mark and Nicholas will come back with good news.”The four of them sat in the
A groan slipped out of Diane’s mouth. Her left leg moved a bit as she struggled to straighten her shoulders. She subconsciously tugged her hands, sensing that they were in some sort of bondage. She let out another groan, this time fluttering her eyes open slowly. Her hazy sight was, however, met with darkness. She blinked twice, glancing around but her gaze met nothing but darkness. What happened? She wondered, squeezing her eyes shut as she tried to remember what happened the night before. With her eyes still shut, an image of her standing in the living room reading Ashley’s text message. She remembered leaving the house and going to a restaurant that looked deserted and out of business. She remembered thinking she would find Ashley there. And she remembered someone hitting her head. The last thing she remembered was blacking out.Oh God.Was she kidnapped? She was kidnapped! They freaking kidnapped her!Did that happen to Ashley too? Maybe that was why she was texting her. Did the s
