The day slowly passed and Angela decided to tell her friend Zora, a college bestie about her new employment.
Inside Angela’s room, Angela was lying on her bed chatting with Zora on her phone. She swung her legs happily behind her as she laid on her belly holding the phone to her ears.
“Trust me I was very scared with the way applicants were coming in as quickly as they entered the room,” Angela expressed.
“Wow. You are brave. I would have left the place the moment I realized I didn’t fit the profile,” Zora said.
“Well, the only thing that prevented me from leaving was my outfit and fear,” Angela said and Zora laughed on the other end of the call.
“Your outfit and fear? How?” Zora asked.
“Well, I was the only one who appeared to be poorly dressed. I couldn’t bring myself to walk in front of the expensively dressed applicants. That would be so embarrassing,” Angela said.
“Good you dressed poorly then, if not panic would have taken you out of the competition,” Zora said. “You know what. You have to celebrate. A Mask Party is happening downtown tonight. I know you hate for people to see you around places like clubs that is why I feel you will be okay with this one wearing a mask. Your identity will be hidden,” she proposed.
“Zora, bad things always happen in those clubs. You can come around. We will watch a movie and have some drinks,” Angela suggested.
“Boring. The theme for the club fun is Mask it Up. It will be fun. No one will see you,” Zora convinced.
“Zora,” Angela began but Zora interrupted.
“No buts. You are coming with me and that is finally. Girl, you need to see the real world and know a little bit of what’s up. If not, you will remain a greenhorn forever. Today’s men like a woman with a little knowledge, not a greenhorn,” Zora said and Angela rolled her eyes.
“I will see you in an hour. I will get you something for the party tonight,” Zora added.
“Okay. Whatever,” Angela reluctantly agreed.
She will be wearing a mask and she felt that will make her feel okay visiting places like that. She made a mental note to leave if anything that showed signs of a fight was about to happen.
Later that even, Zora came by the house holding a bag. She greeted Mr and Mrs Anderson before going up to Angela’s room.
Zora frowned immediately when she found Angela dressed in a long straight dress with a flower design all over it.
"Girl, what are you wearing?" Zora asked making a face.
"A straight dress," Angela replied.
"Girl, we are not going to church. It is a club. We are not going to do praise and worship. You need to look hot," Zora said and pulled the black cocktail dress out of the bag she was holding.
Angela stared at the dress which almost looked like a ballerina's dancing dress except the flare at the waist was not that stiff but it was short too.
"You expect me to wear that?" Angela asked staring at the dress.
"Yes," Zora replied with a smile.
"NO," Angela protested.
"Yes," Zora repeated. “Now, go put it on,” Zora said and the dress over to Angela.
She pushed Angela towards the bathroom so she could change into the outfit. The dress had glass beads at the front making it sparkle under the light.
“Is this not too short?” Angela complained looking at the beautiful dress she was holding as Zora pushed her towards the bathroom.
“It is late and the lights will be dimmed. Who will see those legs of yours anyway? Even though if I had legs like yours, trust me, I would put them out for exhibition,” Zora said and she pushed Angela into the bathroom to change.
Angela returned to the bedroom wearing the cocktail dress. Zora’s eyes lit up as she admired Angela in the dress. Angela tagged at the length of the dress which was exposing fifty per cent of her thigh.
“Zora, I am not comfortable in this dress. It is too short,” Angela complained.
“Girl, where are you from? The Stone Age era? I bet even Mary did know how to dress sexily reason Samson fell in love with her and despite her pregnancy, he still couldn’t leave her,” Zora said and Angela frowned.
“It was Joseph, not Samson and in those times they didn’t wear clothes that expose their bodies like this,” Angela corrected. "In fact, they wear clothes that cover their bodies from head to toe," she added and Zora rolled her eyes getting some make-up from her bag.
“I am talking about Samson. What is the name of the girl who seduced him again?” Zora asked as she fixed the dress on Angela and pushed her to sit on the bed so she could do some make-up for her.
“You mean Delilah?” Angela asked rolling her eyes.
“Yeah, she,” Zora said and started doing a light make-up for Angela.
“Zora, Delilah was bad news. She destroyed Samson. I don’t think you want me to be a Delilah tonight?” Angela said and remained seated as Zora did the make-up for her.
“I think; Delilah was a bad person by choice. How about you be the good version of Delilah? Being good by choice. Find Samson and this time help him accomplish God’s work on Earth,” Zora said smiling as she admired the makeup she had done for Angela.
Angela facepalmed hearing Zora's statement.
“If you want to advise me using the bible, at least get your stories right. I am not going to be Delilah,” Angela said and the next minute she found herself in a car heading to the club in the dress she didn’t want to wear.
Mr and Mrs Anderson were happy to see Angela look different for the first time and felt okay because it wasn't late. Angela had a long coat over her black cocktail dress and her makeup was amazing. Zora also promised to bring Angela back home in one pierce. She had a car.
At the popular club, located in a popular place, in the city of New York, Angela and Zora strode in after Zora tipped the man at the gate heavily.
“Now, we can get some men to buy us drink. Here are some few rules when you go to a club or any party,” Zora said whispering into Angela’s ears.
“Never leave your drink. Carry it everywhere you go. When a guy is bothering you, you have two options, remain calm or walk away. Usually, there is always a good guy watching who will come to your rescue,” Zora said and Angela frowned.
“Is that automatic?” Angela asked.
“I don’t know but that is how good girls find their dream men in movies,” Zora said and Angela shook her head.
“Now, last rule, never be alone. Always find the biggest guy in the club and chat with him. They will protect you,” Zora added and Angela raised her eyebrow. “You will be fine. You have beautiful legs, eyes and nose. Girl you are beautiful and most guys who come here are rich and powerful. They hate to see a damsel in distress,” Zora added and pulled Angela into the crowd of people.
“This place is too crowded. Let me see if we can bribe our way to VIP 1,” Zora shouted the words out pulling Angela with her.
“Hey Jose, you remember me,” Zora said to the man at the entrance of the VIP 1.
“Hello Trouble, what do you want this time?” Jose replied.
Angela stared at the man who appeared to be huge and had tattoos around his neck.
“I am showing my girlfriend around. I just want her to explore a place less crowded,” Zora replied.
“You know the drill,” Jose replied and Zora leaned in wrapping her arms around the man.
Angela did not see what Zora did but the man allowed them into the VIP 1 section. The place was indeed less crowded.
“Now, here we will get free drinks. Only the rich come up to this space and the next VIP space is for extremely rich people,” Zora said and Angela just nodded.
Zora approached a certain man and started flirting with him but Angela stood there quietly.
“Does your friend speak?” the man asked.
“Yeah, she but that is something she does after getting a drink,” Zora said and the man bought them a drink.
They sat on the bar stool chatting and Zora left with the man to the dance floor. Angela looked at the two dancing. She emptied her glass and felt like using the washroom. She asked the bartender where she could find the washroom and he directed her.
Angela decided to use the washroom and returned without bothering Zora. She went in the direction the bartender showed her but as soon as she exited the space, her mouth was covered with a cloth and after a little struggle she passed out.
An hour earlier, before Angela and Zora entered the VIP 1 Section. The bartender heard his phone vibrate. Seeing the caller, he exited the bar into the backroom to answer the call.“Hello,” the bartender said, once he was alone inside the backroom of the bar.“I just got an alert that the target is in the club. She is heading towards the VIP 1 section with her friend as we speak,” said the caller.“How do I identify her?” the bartender asked.“She will be the only girl in a black dress in the VIP section,” the caller replied.“Noted,” the bartender replied and returned to the bar to continue serving the customers. His eyes hungrily scanned the people in the section but there was no lady in a black dress anywhere. After an hour, two ladies walked in, Angela and Zora. Angela was wearing a black cocktail dress and Zora was in a dark blue close-fitting straight dress whose length was just up to her thigh. The two were approached by a man who walked them to the bar. The man bought a drink
Zora left the club and went to sit in her car. She was hoping she would see Angela once the people began to leave. Meanwhile, inside a room, Angela was asleep wrapped in the arms of a man both naked. Outside, inside the car, Zora could no longer fight nature. She dosed off to sleep.Angela slowly opened her eyes. Her eyes widened when she saw the ceiling she was staring at. She tried to move but her gaze quickly got sight of the man lying down next to her. She raised the blanket, looked inside and quickly brought it down with shock plastered on her face. They were both naked. Angela panicked and fell off the bed. Her fall woke the man up.Still sitting on the floor holding the blanket as a cover. She stared at the man who slowly sat up on the bed not caring about his current state. She recognized the man as the one who had interviewed her at Diamond Corporation. She held on to the blanket and pushed herself back while sitting on the floor away from the bed as she stared at the man who
Angela lay on her bed tossing and turning, trying to come up with something to tell her parents so they would allow her to leave home and move in with Bryce, but nothing came to mind. She defeated all the ideas that came to mind with the excuse her parents would see right true her. She had not had a reason to lie to them before. This was going to be her first time. Zora came to mind and she remembered she never saw her again after leaving with the strange man to dance. She fetched her phone which had charged up a little and dialled Zora's number."Hello Zora," Angela said."Girlfriend, where are you?" Zora asked sounding relieved. "I am home," Angela replied sounding downcast."I am glad you are safe, but why would you do that to me? I looked for you everywhere and ended up sleeping in my car outside," Zora said sounding unhappy."I am sorry, but something happened. Can you please come over to my place? I really need your help with something," Angela requested."Okay, fine, but you o
Angela and Zora stared at Mr Anderson who stood there for a while not saying anything. Angela started feeling anxious thinking Mr Anderson had seen through her."Honey, come listen to something," Mr Anderson said and returned to the living room."I thought you said it was going to work," Angela whispered to Zora as soon as Mr Anderson went back into the living room."It was a suggestion. I didn't say it was going to yield the needed results," Angela raised an eyebrow hearing Zora's reply. "Well, we need to know what is going to happen next. Let's go inside," she added pulling Angela towards the living room."Our daughter is moving out," Mr Anderson said to his wife who was sitting on the sofa reading a magazine. "What?" Mrs Anderson reacted lowering the magazine and placing it next sofa to her side, but just then Angela and Zora strode in. "Why?" she asked taking her eyeglasses off."Her new job came with an accommodation," Mr Anderson said and found himself a seat."Angela, are you
"Good. You are here," Bryce said and started descending the staircase. The servant seeing Bryce, bowed to him and left the place. Angela remained rooted to her spot holding the roller handle of her small travelling bag. She stared at Bryce as he descended the staircase and she couldn't help but admire him. In the interview room, she was nervous and hence didn't pay much attention to him. His eyes were something else so she avoided looking at him. At the club when she woke up next to him, she was terrified and confused. So again, she could not look at him. All through her time with him, this was the only time she was taking a good look at him."It is rude to stare," Bryce said when he was now standing in front of Angela."I am sorry," Angela apologize and lowered her head."Come with me. I will show you to your room. We can have supper was you have settled in," Bryce said calmly."Yes please, " Angela acknowledged and Bryce called one of the servants to come for Angela's bag.Bryce and
Susan smiled staring at Angela but the smile vanished immediately. She stood to her feet, went round her chair and stood behind it, resting her elbow on the backrest."Now this is very important. Write them down or memorize them like your life depends on it," Susan began, sounding like they were in a military and Susan was the commander."Your work starts like now. For today, the President would be here at exactly 10 a.m. He is currently at a meeting outside the office. Since today is your first day, he will pardon you but in subsequent meetings, you are expected to be present. The president move you move," Susan said. "Understood?" she asked and Angela nodded."When a question is asked you answer with your lips, not your head," Susan snapped slamming her hand on the table causing Angela to jump in her seat."Yes, ma'am," Angela replied and Susan continued pacing up and down as she delivered the rest of her instructions."You must always be on time. No lateness would be tolerated. A m
"Where are your shoes?" Bryce asked staring at shocked Angela. Angela blinked twice to make sure she was seeing right. Bryce left home Sunday morning and never returned. He didn't even call her and this morning she walked into the president's office to find him sitting in the president's seat. Is he the president? Angela thought staring at Bryce. I am married to the president. She thought still staring at Bryce."I asked you a question?" Bryce said, his expression changing into a frown."What?" Angela said trying to remember the question Bryce asked earlier snapping from her short daze."Where are your shoes?" Bryce repeated the question and Angela stared at her feet which were without shoes."I..I..," Angela began shifting her gaze back to Bryce but she had nothing to say.Bryce pressed a number on the phone on his table."Hello Mr President," came Susan's voice."Come to my office, now," Bryce said and Angela took a step back wondering what was going on.Bryce was acting like she
Even though Angela didn't want to be late for the meeting, her other reason for following Bryce was that she didn't know where the meeting was taking place or how to get there."I want everyone to be proactive, but it doesn't mean you should risk your life. If it is too difficult to be proactive, you can quit," Bryce said coldly and adjusted his tie.His attempt to save Angela from getting hurt moved his tie from its position. Looking at his reflection in the elevator mirror, he properly positioned his tie."That is the thing. I don't want to lose my job. So if I have to fly without wings to beat time. I will. I will just guide my life, so I don't lose it in the process," Angela said, still with her head lowered wondering how Bryce was treating her that way. She didn't expect any special treatment for being his wife but she was not expecting this cruel treatment either.Bryce stared at her with a frown. He wondered where Angela got her boldness to reply to him. Most employees would j
"How does this scandal work in our favour?" George asked after updating Matilda with their plan."Angela left home and Bryce followed her after seeing the news. He was furious. He found Angela in an abandoned place, meeting up with a man. He moves in to claim her, maybe just watching her from hiding. Eduardo's team opened fire on him. Bryce dies, Angela gets wounded and Zora dies. No one would believe Angela because of this news. My son comes back home to me," Matilda narrated smiling like things would play out like that.George frowned staring at her."The scandal may be one thing but don't forget the police would investigate," George pointed out."So take care of that. Money makes the rule," Matilda said and stood up. "Everything goes down tonight. No mistake," she added and walked away.Back at Bryce's new place, Angela sat on the bed worried and in tears, while Bryce tried to calm her down. "Everything is going to be alright. I promise to bring Zora home safe and sound," Bryce as
"Hello," came Angela's sweet voice after the guard had redialed her number for the third time."Listen to me carefully, I have your friend Zora here. If you want to see her again and alive, do as exactly as I tell you," the guard said."Who are you?" Angela asked."I am the one who decides what happens to your friend," the guard said. Maybe you think I am joking," he added. George then asked another guard to hit Zora. The guard removed the cloth from Zora's lips and a slap landed on her face making her scream. Another followed the slap and Zora let out a cry."I believe you recognized that scream," the guard said and George nodded asking the guard to continue."Please don't hurt my friend," Angela cried after hearing Zora's voice."That depends on you," the guard said. "I want you to come to a location I am going to give you. At exactly 6 p.m. today, you should be there. Bring cash half a million dollars and I will release your friend to you. Don't get the police involved and make sur
"I just saw Martin at AT&T," Susan said as soon as her call was answered."He is probably getting a new sim for investigation or something. Follow him and find out what he is doing there and what he is up to," Devon said."Okay, " Susan replied. "I will speak with my friend. She should be able to get me that information without a problem," she said and the call ended.Susan found somewhere to hide and kept her gaze on the AT&T shop's exit. She saw Martin step out of the shop. She watched as Martin shoved something into his jacket and walked towards a blank Range Rover. Susan frowned."When did Bryce change his car?" Susan thought but remembered Bryce was with the Davis family now. Susan watched the car leave and quickly emerged from her hiding, her eyes fixated on the car driving away. She stopped a taxi and got inside. "Hurry, follow that Range Rover," Susan said and the taxi driver did as requested. After a couple of turns, Martin noticed he was being followed. Meanwhile, back in
Martin moved the recording to a pen drive and left the apartment. He then got behind the wheel and drove toward the hospital.Back at the hospital, Bryce was still sitting in the ward watching over Angela. There was no one he could trust at this moment. He patiently waited for Martin to arrive so he could take Angela home. To a new place. A place that would be safe for where."Sir, everything is ready," Martin announced as soon as he entered the ward."Great," Bryce said and stood up.He walked to the bed and scooped Angela in his arms. She was still sleeping and he didn't want to wake her. He made Martin cover her with his jacket since he didn't have one. The trio walked out of the ward heading towards the exit. They were soon outside, and Bryce got into the car's back seat after safely securing Angela first in the back seat. He had his hand wrapped around Angela, keeping her comfortable."Let's go," Bryce said and Martin put the car into motion. After a couple of minutes' drive, th
"Have someone follow him. I want to know what he is doing at all times," Matilda said to George, standing up and exiting George's room after he had acknowledged. Outside, Martin stood there for a while holding his phone. He returned to the house and was allowed in. He entered the house and asked one of the servants if Matilda was home."Yes, she is upstairs in her room," the servant replied. Martin thanked the servant and headed for Matilda's room upstairs. He walked down the hallway and stopped in front of Matilda's room door. He knocked and Matilda answered. Matilda was surprised to see Martin behind her door. "Good, I didn't say anything while opening the door. I thought it was George. What does he want here?" Matilda thought staring at Martin like she had seen a ghost."Mrs Davis, I would like to discuss something very important with you. Is that possible?" Martin asked."Sure, I would meet you downstairs in the study," Matilda said staring at Martin like she wanted to read his
"Your room is nowhere on this floor. So what brings you here?" Matilda asked making herself comfortable as she offered Mrs Anderson a seat.It was a bedroom, but it had a mini living room area. Mrs Anderson sat down and stared at Matilda who appeared not to be bothered by her."I came to see you," Mrs Anderson said bravely. "It's getting to 9 am. Angela and Zora are not in their room. I don't know where they went," she informed her."Oh," Matilda said and smiled. "They are two adults. You don't have to babysit them, do you now?" she asked staring at Mrs Anderson."I don't need to tell you what is going on. They are not safe going out alone," Mrs Anderson pointed out."Who said they are alone?" Matilda said. "Don't answer that. What did you hear when you were behind my door pressing your ears to it like a lizard?" she asked."Nothing?" Mrs Anderson replied looking away."Hmm," Matilda said. "That is not what your face is telling me," she said. "And oh look, you are trembling," she poin
Zora sat in front of the TV with a cup of tea as she stared at the screen. She heard a knock on the door drawing her attention in that direction. A smile appeared on Zora's face, she believed it was Angela at the door. She put her cup of tea on the small round table. She stood up and slipped her legs into a slippers she had found in the bedroom. She walked towards the door in her morning coat with a broad smile plastered on her face."Girl, I know you had a wonderful night. Don't tell me you people didn't do the do. I will if I find myself next to an attractive man like Mr Moore." Zora happily said these words as she walked towards the door as if the door were so thin that Angela would hear her on the other side. She reached for the doorknob and turned it to open the door. In her mind, she was already imagining the look on Angela's face. The smile vanished from Zora's face as she came face to face with the person behind the door. Her eyes did a quick scan of the man dressed like a mil
Bryce returned to the room and Angela was awake."How was your sleep?" Bryce asked."I am fine. It's only 6 a.m. Why are you up so early? It's Saturday. You should be in bed resting, looking at what happened last night," Angela said, sitting on the bed while Bryce stood before the closed bathroom door."I am fine," Bryce said, climbing back into bed. How are you and our child doing?" he asked."We are good," Angela replied, earning a peck on her forehead from Bryce.Angela smiled and Bryce planted a light kiss on her lips and she giggled. "Angela," Bryce called out her name and rested his back on the bed headboard. "Please come," he said opening his arms for Angela. As Angela approached, Bryce held her hand in his. Angela folded her legs under herself and stared at Bryce."Angela, I know I have been terrible towards you. I abandoned you when you needed me the most and I believed in the lies that were said about you. I am sorry. Forgive me for calling our child a bastard. Deep down in
The next day, Bryce was the first to wake up. He was happy to see Angela sleeping next to him. He stared at her sleeping face and smiled. He felt some peace within him and for that moment, he forgot about everything happening around him. "This is how it should be," Bryce thought still staring at Angela. His phone buzzed snapping him out of the moment. He quickly turned in the direction of his phone intending to turn down the sound so it didn't disturb Angela. He picked up the phone and pressed the power button, silencing the phone. He stared back at Angela and she squeezed her face briefly before relaxing again. Bryce got out of bed slowly ensuring he didn't wake her. He opened the door to the bathroom and the call ended. Once inside the bathroom, the phone started ringing again. He quickly answered the call to prevent it from ringing loudly again."Hello Sir," came Martin's voice."You better have a good reason for disturbing me at this hour," Bryce said, unhappy that he had to le
