79 Eavesdropping 

Joseph returned to Victoria's room after Maya had left the hospital. She was awake and was healing by then.

He looked at her and smiled. She returned his smile and tried to sit up.

"You scared me back there," he said, breaking the ice between them, and she giggled.

"I couldn't let you get all the fun. Besides, now you know how ready we are for battle," she said, and Joseph's smile dropped. He moved close to her and sat by her bedside. The proximity was much, but Victoria controlled herself.

"Don't do that again, Vikky," he said on a serious note, and she nodded.

"It was a decision I had to make, Alpha," She said, and he sighed.

He wondered why she was formal. He remembered how rigid and reluctant she was at the warehouse and somehow realised she had been avoiding him all this while. He wanted to bring it up but did not know if this would be the right time.

"It is best you call me by my name, Vikky. You have earned it," he said with a smile, and she nodded.
