Meadow stood frozen on the spot. Her breathing was laboured, but Ethan could not care less. He ignored her and wheeled his chair back to his desk, where he was working on his computer.

Meadow's tears fell silently. She did not know where to begin. It wasn't Ethan's condition that bothered her; it was his reputation that troubled her soul.

Ever since the unfortunate accident left him half the wolf he was, he had been bitter. He was ruthless and unforgiving.

People were afraid of him. People feared him so much that no one ever spoke his name. Meadow realised she would be living in hell for the rest of her life.

Ethan's words had registered in her mind. 'A live-in Nanny that could not quit'; that was all she was to the McClouds.

"Find a place to sit and do not utter a word," he said, then turned to look at her over his shoulder.

"I forgot you were mute. Excellent choice. At least I would not have to deal with rants and whines. As long as you do not invade my space, you will not have any issues with me." He said, and she looked at the room, searching for a place to sit.

Although her wedding gown suddenly felt heavy, she did not want to take it off.

The room was sparsely furnished. It had a sitting section and a kingsize bed; next to the king-size bed was a small bed. It was close enough to the king-size bed that whoever was sleeping on it would know when Ethan needed help in his sleep.

There was a vanity table that had nothing on it. A dresser and two nightstands. The room was big, and it looked bare.

Meadow went to sit on the couch, unsure what she would do.

Soon the door opened, and the servants wheeled in hangers of clothes meant for Meadow. She did not even bother to look at them. Her tears just continued to fall. She knew there was no way things would end well for her in the house.

"Change that hideous dress," Ethan ordered without looking at her, and Meadow went to find something simple to wear in the closet.

She sat on the stool in the closet and laughed at herself. Painful tears escaped her eyes while she glanced at the rows of clothes they had bought her.

She had anticipated tonight. She was a virgin and looked forward to consummating her wedding to the Alpha.

It was clear that would not be happening ever. She doubted Ethan would consummate his marriage with a glorified nanny.

She searched through the clothes and found a simple pyjama set. She carried them out of the closet and went into the bathroom.

Searching through the toiletries, she realised they all belonged to Ethan. Not wanting to start on the wrong foot with him, she did not touch them and decided to shower with plain water.

Washing off the makeup wasn't easy, so she tore a part of her wedding gown's train and used it as a washcloth. She would have to get toiletries the next day.

Once she was done, she left the bathroom and dumped her wedding dress in the trash. She did not plan on keeping it because it would be a painful reminder of the day she became enslaved.

Meadow returned to where she was sitting and brought out her phone to keep her company. She was tempted to text Victoria and her parents but decided to do it the next day.

She waited on the couch and soon fell asleep.

A servant woke her up later. She thought it was morning but later found out it was nighttime. Ethan was still at his desk working on his computer.

"Madam, the luna wants to see you," the servant that woke her up said, and from the way the woman looked at her, she felt sorry for Meadow.

Meadow got up and followed the servant.

The servant led her to Luna's office and left her there.

The size of the door intimidated Meadow, but soon she gathered courage and knocked. She waited for the Luna's invite before she entered the office.

Luna Amber was sitting behind her desk and attending to documents while Meadow stood waiting for her to speak. "Sit," the luna ordered indifferently, and Meadow sat on the chair at the desk.

"I see you have met your husband," luna said without looking at her.

"I called you here to lay down the rules. This is a great step up for you, judging by the fact that no one would want to be with someone like you. You should be grateful, and I expect you to act grateful," she said, stopped what she was doing and looked at Meadow.

"As you can see, my son is not in good shape. I married you so he can have someone to care for him. Bathe him, clothe him, take care of his needs and always be at his beck and call." She said, listing out her expectations.

"You should never leave his side and always be there when he needs you. You are to attend functions with him as his wife." She paused and examined Meadow's sad face.

"No matter how sad or angry you are, I expect you to smile every time you are in public. I do not expect you to divulge anything happening in this mansion to anyone outside. No one needs your opinion, so keep it to yourself. I like that you are mute; see it as an advantage," She said and sighed. Amber leaned back in her chair with her eyes on Meadow, who refused to maintain eye contact with her.

"You won't only care for Ethan; you will bear him children too. He doesn't have to touch you; I have that part covered. When the time comes, I will take you to the doctor for artificial insemination," she explained, and Meadow swallowed hard.

Her mouth was dry, and her breathing was becoming difficult. Everything the Luna had said scared the hell out of her.

Luna Amber finally smiled and leaned forward to look at her.

"I know Ethan is handsome. Do not try to make him fall in love with you. It wouldn't work. Better-looking, healthy women have tried and failed. Take it as a warning so you do not get your heart broken," She said and picked up a piece of paper that was on the table and glanced through it.

"I also have the signed contract, so you dare not run away. You know the extent of our reach. So please, do not make me search for you, or you will have hell to pay. Am I clear?" She asked, and Meadow nodded gently.

"Did you come with your phone?" The luna asked, and Meadow nodded.

Amber stretched her hand forward, indicating Meadow to give her the phone.

Even though Meadow was reluctant, she had to hand it over; the moment she gave luna the phone, her tears began to fall freely.

This wasn't a wedding night. It was a sentencing night. Amber was the judge and jailer, and Meadow was the convict.

"I will hold on to this," Amber said and placed the phone in her drawer.

"Whenever you need to use it, you must get permission from me. All your text messages will be supervised. On no account should you be caught using sign language to communicate, except an interpreter is present. As for your friend Victoria, forget about her. She talks too much, and I do not want my business in the open," She said and folded her hand on the table.

"In fact, forget about everyone. All that matters henceforth is Ethan. If you are bored, watch a movie or read a book." She said and sighed.

"We eat breakfast at eight in the morning, lunch by two in the afternoon and dinner by seven in the evening, all in the dining room. Ethan likes being there on time. Make sure he is ready and at the table at these times." She said, and Meadow nodded.

"You are dismissed," Amber said, and Meadow stood up and left.

Her feet felt heavy against the floor. She could not lift them completely, so they dragged as she walked.

She felt like nothing. Her entire life had been stolen. She dreaded what her life would look like henceforth. Her phone was her only outlet, and Amber had taken it from her.

How did they expect her to cope?

She did think of running away, but she knew Amber was right. They had a good reach, and it would be difficult for Meadow to go into hiding.

As she walked, the air felt chilly, and she hugged herself. She wondered if her parents knew this part of the arrangement. She had no means of asking them. Luna Amber had boxed her in completely.

Getting to Ethan's room, she knocked on the door and waited for him to ask her to come in. She stood outside the door for ten minutes before he answered.

When she entered, she returned to the couch and waited for her orders.

Meadow stayed awake until she saw Ethan wheeling himself to the bathroom. She stood up, ready to help him.

"Stand back," he said coldly, and she did not know what to do. His pyjamas were on his lap, and she realised he was used to doing things like this.

"I can wash my body," He said and wheeled himself into the bathroom.

It took a while for him to come out.

Meadow noticed he wasn't wearing his pyjama pants and figured he might need help with them.

She went into the bathroom and got the pyjama pants, then went to him so she could help him wear them.

He turned to look at her angrily.

"What do you want?" He asked her, and she showed him the pants.

Knowing he needed help, he was silent, and she helped him wear it. She closed her eyes, pulling the pants up, so she did not see his third leg.

He noticed her behaviour and didn't say anything. Once she was done, she helped him get into the bed.

"Get me my tablet in the nightstand drawer," he ordered her, pointing at the nightstand on the left.

She went and got out the tablet for him. He switched it on and ignored her.

Realising he was okay, she went to the small bed and decided to lie on it.

"There are quilts in the closet. It gets chilly at night. I am a light sleeper; can't deal with chattering teeth," he said, and she went to the closet to get a quilt to cover herself with.

Meadow did not sleep. Instead, she cried silent tears. She thought about all Luna Amber had said to her and realised never being married and dying alone was a better fate than the one she was in.

She felt trapped, and she knew no one would rescue her.

Meadow woke up late the following day. She got off the bed and realised Ethan was not lying in his bed. She looked at the clock, and it was eight in the morning. How could she have overslept on her first day? It was a weird thought being she just got married, but realising it was a job took away the joy. What made her sad wasn't the fact that her parents had deceived her, that her husband was a cripple or that he was mean. She would have made it work nonetheless. Ethan was a very handsome man, more so than his brother, and he was more feared than Joseph. She would have found a way to make it work. What hurt her the most were Luna Amber's words and how she presented the matter. If they wanted a nanny, they should have hired one on a strict contract instead of marrying a wife for Alpha Ethan. Then again, a nanny could not carry the Alpha's children, and children born out of wedlock could never inherit. Nonetheless, taking her phone from her and giving her strict rules was a low b

  • Underwater   04 The Dreaded Clause

Three months passed, and Meadow ensured she was on her best behaviour. She avoided getting on anybody's nerves, most especially Ethan, who was good at pretending as if she did not exist. Although Amber had made her seem like a nanny, Ethan was self-sufficient. Meadow helped him with the things he couldn't do for himself, but above all, he did most of the things himself. Ethan could survive without her, and she knew it. Which made sense why the nannies quit, coupled with his temper, but he had never lost his temper with her. Meadow never gave him a reason to. There were times that Meadow wanted to get him to go out and get some sun in the afternoon, but because he barely spoke to her, there was no opportunity for her to ask him. Staying indoors was getting to her, but there wasn't much she could do. Meadow would often wonder what Victoria was doing and if she missed her. She also wondered about her parents and if they missed her too. It was hard, but she was pushing. She wondered

  • Underwater   05 To The Cabin

Meadow packed her bags quickly. She did not bother with fancy clothes or make-up. Ethan had proffered a temporary escape for her, and she would take it. She knew Luna Amber would eventually get her way and have to do what the woman wanted, but she needed time to accept it. "Are you ready?" Ethan asked in a stern voice. She exited the closet with her bag and nodded quickly. "What about you?" She signed, and he turned his wheelchair around. "I have my things there," he said and moved towards the door. "Come on. I do not want to have another altercation with her," he said, and she followed him quickly. Ethan dreaded going to the cabin, but that was the quickest and closest place he could take her to. He had shared the cabin with his ex, Cynthia, and the place was filled with the memories he shared with her. It would be a painful stay for him, but he wanted to stop his mother from ruining Meadow's life. He knew she was untouched and believed his mother's plan was cruel. They left

  • Underwater   06 His Pain

Meadow's hands trembled while she fumbled with Ethan's phone. It was as if she was finally getting food after being denied for so long. She longed to communicate with Victoria and could not believe her luck. Her tears rose as she typed her message to Victoria, and Ethan noticed it. Meadow's emotions made him look away, and he wheeled himself to the cabin's living area to watch the news. He expected Keith soon, so he stayed where he could control his behaviour rather than return to the room. Ethan could stand seeing Cynthia's picture anywhere but the room he currently occupied because that was the place he had spent the last night with her. They were in that room when she told him he was a has-been and useless to himself and everyone around him. She told him she did not want to be saddled with the responsibility of caring for his kind and that she knew she was better off. She blackmailed him and told him he would let her go if he genuinely cared for her. He was speechless and co

  • Underwater   07 Truth And Warmth

"Hello," Ethan said on the phone, and Joseph sighed on his end. "Alpha," he said to his brother. "Yes," Ethan replied, sounding a bit short. "Where are you? Mother has been going crazy," Joseph asked. He did sound like he did not want to call, but the pressure was so much that he couldn't help it. "Tell her to mind her business and find another thing to do," Ethan said calmly, and Joseph sighed. "Honestly, I do not support what she is planning on doing. Did you try to reason with her?" Joseph asked out of concern. "I did, and she refused, claiming she owned the girl as if she was an object. She is mute, Joseph, that is all. There is nothing wrong with her. I cannot let mother ruin a life to please herself. She is untouched, and mother wants to put her through artificial insemination," he told his brother, and Joseph could understand Ethan's rage. "She knew what she was getting into, Ethan. Her parents willingly..." Joseph said, and Ethan cut him. "She didn't, Joseph. I believe

  • Underwater   08 Almost Joy

Ethan and Meadow spent a while in the living room before the van that would transport them back to the Mansion arrived. Ethan saw Meadow as an enigma, but he wasn't eager to understand her. He feared the danger of getting emotionally attached and getting hurt. She was a fine woman. He would not dispute that, mute or not, she was very peaceful too. Ethan hoped he wouldn't be long because he was nervous about leaving her in the Mansion in the care of his brother's beta. He would have taken her with him, but they were yet to establish a relationship with the Ceenas Pack, so it would be wrong for him to take her along in case it gets a bit dangerous. The moment the van arrived, Meadow got up to get her things. "Where are you going?" Ethan asked her, and she looked at him. "To get my bags. They are packed," She signed, and he shook his head. "The delta would bring it unless you have something to do upstairs," he said, not wanting her to go up their stairs. She smiled at him and thank

  • Underwater   09 Not Really Yours

Meadow and Ethan returned to their bedroom. She was still pissed at how Amber referred to her, but she wondered if Ethan was telling the truth about trying with her. She did not know how to feel about the situation, especially if the man would only be doing so out of pity. She would rather be his live-in nanny than for him to flaunt her as his wife out of charity. Meadow watched Ethan wheel himself about the room and wondered what was going on in his mind. How did he plan on making his mother believe him? He was not going to touch her, nor was he planning on claiming and marking her. It would buy them time, but soon she knew she would have to submit herself to Luna Amber for the insemination. She made up her mind to condition her mind and accepted the inevitable. Ethan wheeled himself out of the room, and she went to the bathroom to freshen up. Ethan returned to the room and noticed she was in the bathroom. So he waited for her to come out. Meadow wasn't expecting him to be in, so

  • Underwater   10 A Little Confidence

"Send her to my wing," Ethan linked the steward and wheeled back to his room. Entering the room. Meadow had the television on. She quickly switched it off and stood up. Ethan could see she was nervous, and it had nothing to do with the television. The heated discussion during breakfast was part of it. He stared at her a bit. Unable to hold his gaze, she looked away quickly, so he won't be offended. Meadow's people skills were poor, and that was because she never really socialised, so this was unchartered grounds for her. "Are you feeling nervous?" Ethan asked her, and she nodded quickly. There was no point hiding it. He could see it already. "Why?" he asked her, and she looked at him. "You argued with everyone because of me. I really don't mind what Ashely said," she signed, and he was a bit angry at her for thinking it was okay to be disrespected. He was mad at her parents for not helping her build her self-worth and self-esteem. So what, she was mute? Meadow was a gorgeous woma

Three weeks later. Ethan stood at the altar, waiting for his bride to come. He was nervous. Even though the wedding was taking place in the private park by the lake with a gentle breeze blowing, he had beads of sweat on his forehead. He looked at where his mother and stepfather sat, and Levi smiled at him, letting him know he would be all right. Ethan stood with Keith and Malcolm behind him. Sebastien and Ashley's wedding was ongoing at the River pack, so they couldn't make it. They had all decided to wed on the same day to make it memorable. Everything went quiet, and the sound faded the moment Ethan caught Meadows's scent as she walked down the aisle. Blake held his daughter and led her through. Unlike the first time, she had a broad smile, and her heart was eager to get to the altar. Ethan looked at her, and he had never seen anything as beautiful as his mate. She was radiant and walked down with her eyes fixed on him. They had both come a long way, and this was the reward. B

  • Underwater   95 The Battle

It took two hours for Sebastien and the army to arrive. The moment they arrived, everyone heard the fight on the grounds. Amber, Elaine and Leah prepared to run for cover once the door opened, while the rest prepared to shift and fight. Their eyes were trained at the door. They knew someone would open it. It would either be an enemy or a friend, but the door was bound to open to ensure they were still in the room and not the cause of the battle that had started. Someone finally turned the lock. The person opened the door, and to their surprise, it was Cynthia and Sean. They looked like they planned on running away together. "Follow me," Amber told them, no questions asked. She was going to lead them through the secret escape. They were not going to hide in the mansion. They were going to hide in the woods. Sean and Cynthia could run away from there. Ethan looked at his ex, and he nodded with approval. With those two acts, she had redeemed herself; he hoped she had changed for t

  • Underwater   94 A Change Of Heart

Ethan got up and hugged Meadow immediately. She rested her head on his chest and wept. She felt free for the first time in a long time. Ethan cupped her face in his arms and kissed her fiercely. Then broke the kiss and stared at her. "Say my name," he said, and everyone started laughing. They weren't bothered because their plan had worked, and Linus had underestimated them. "Ethan", Meadow said, and it sounded like music to his ears. Brian, Adam, Victoria, and Leah were shocked that Ethan's legs were all right, but they did not fuss about it. The truth is they had all prepared for this day. They were waiting for the Alpha so they could end the charade. It had finally happened. Ethan did not expect that he would hear his wife finally speak for the first time. Her voice was even better than her voice in the mind link. It was like music to his ears, and he looked forward to hearing her call his name when they made love. "What did Sebastian say?" Ethan asked Keith. "They are on

  • Underwater   93 What Really Happened

Joseph stood up immediately, not wanting Ethan to blow his cover, and went to help Meadow. Amber was in shock, likewise Elaine and Victoria. Ethan was frozen in his chair. He did not want his uncle to know he could walk. He was grateful to Joseph. Meadow's hands began to shake while she screamed and pointed at Linus. Her eyes were purple, and Ethan knew Nightshade was in charge. Ethan looked at his uncle, and the man had a smug look on his. It was clear he expected it. He was calm, almost laughing. They all knew something was not right. "And she can speak," Linus said, and Ethan yelled at him. "Shut the fuck up! Don't you have compassion!" Ethan said, getting pissed off. Echo was trying to surface. "I would watch my tongue if I were you, little nephew. I have this place surrounded by my army," he said, and everyone froze, even Nightshade. "It was you! All along?" Levi said, connecting the dots, and Linus began to laugh. Levi thought of all that had happened to them since Cain

  • Underwater   92 Cynthia's Plight

Cynthia sat in front of the mirror in her room. She had heard of the arrival of the guest, but she wasn't interested in seeing him. She was too broken and numb to want to know what was happening. She was also tired of everything. She wasn't lying when she told Sebastien she wanted out. She had not fulfilled her Luna dreams in all the years she had been chasing it. She missed out on a lot. Seeing Ethan with Meadow made her realise how she had fucked her life up, and then hearing Sebastien had paired up with Ashley was the last straw. It wasn't that she was unlucky; she was the one that made herself unlucky. She sat in front of the vanity mirror and could no longer recognise herself again. Her mother always told her she would make a beautiful Luna. Her bloody Omega mother could not make the cut. She believed her Delta wolf's weakness was because her mother was an Omega. Why did her father mate with her? She was angry at the world. She had the urge to run away, but Sebastien's wor

  • Underwater   91 Welcome Uncle

Levi felt rage rising in him seeing Linus. He remembered everything the bastard put him through and did not feel it was right to welcome him into their home, especially when they were in a bad situation, but it wasn't up to him. It was up to Ethan. "This isn't the time for this nonsense, Linus. You see that the pack has been overrun?" Levi asked him calmly, and Linus walked into the mansion. "I have nothing to discuss with you or Amber. I heard she found a donor. The bitch was always lucky like that." He said, and Levi punched him in the face. Linus did not see it coming, or he would have dodged. His nose cracked, and there was blood in his mouth and nose. He did not flinch from pain. He just looked at Levi and smiled with his bloody teeth. "As violent as I remembered. I wonder if that was how you buried the knife in my cousin," Linus said, and Levi was mad. "We both know that is not true," Levi said, and just then, Joseph and Victoria came towards them. Although it had been lon

So she got mad and ordered everyone in the house to meet her outside. So that they do not ignore her as always, she asked Beta Sean to make sure they all came outside. She stood outside, waiting for the residents to assemble. Everyone was mad about being called from their room, but they controlled their temper. There was no need to fight now when they were yet to meet the culprit. Still, it was slowly getting to the point where Ethan and joseph wanted to damn everything and just finish off Cynthia and their goons and then wait for the next attack. It would give them an immediate solution, but it wouldn't last because the bastard could still strike from the shadows. Kate stared at the two alphas. She was afraid and knew her life was forfeit. She hoped they were kind enough to lock her up or she was finished. "I worked in a tavern in Primewood." She started, and they listened. "I was a lady of the night," she confessed, and Levi figured that she had to lack values to stoop so low. Not all of them were like that. Some of them had solid reasons for going into prostitution due to situations that were beyond them but looking at Kate, he figured greed was her motivation. She was just a less privileged version of Cynthia. "I wasn't making much, and I was planning to relocate to Whitewood where there was money, but Luna Amber had banned prostitution in all her territories, so the prospect of getting a job wasn't possible. Also, moving to Whitewood was challenging. We had to fill out forms and apply for residency to stay, in which the Luna or Alpha would determine whether we made the cut or not. That also made my chances slim. Whitewood was and stil

On their way home, Levi thought of the many things he would do to Kate. He had a lot in store for her and planned to drill her to the last bit. He was going to ask Ethan to join him, but he wanted to give Ethan space to spend time with his wife and celebrate their unborn child. He would settle for Joseph's help because he needed someone present, so he did not go overboard. On the other hand, Ethan was ecstatic about the news of being a father soon; he began to see things differently. Finding and ending this Alpha wasn't about revenge and taking back their pack anymore; it was now about their future. It was about securing their children's future and creating a safe environment for them to grow in. It was about sanity and peace. He did not want his children to experience the chaos he had known since he was twelve. He wanted peace and serenity. They arrived at the Mansion.
