Neither of us wanted to get up this morning. We barely slept last night with the worry of what was to come. We just were not ready to say goodbye to one another, but what choice did we have? All we could do was follow the current that was life’s pull.

As soon as we found ourselves in a quiet spot, I turned into my true dragon’s form and allowed Max to ride on my back while I carried his bike. With him holding on tight, I leapt into the air. At first, he seemed scared, but once I levelled out, he settled down and allowed himself to enjoy the ride.

It was the last few moments we were going to have, so I tried to enjoy it with him.

“No one will see us, right? I don’t want them thinking the worst…” Max mumbled as he tried to keep his head as low to my scales as he dared.

“They won’t see me,” I reminded him. “I’ve tried to make it look like you’re using something to glide, but I don’t know if the magic will work quite like that. Usually, illusions only work on the caster and not on a targe

The monastery was cold as we stepped in through the front door, or what remained of it. The bulky wooden door was left loose on a single hinge. Despite the obvious wear and tear from the elements, it surprised me to find most of the place within to be preserved.“How old is this place?” Max suddenly whispered as we walked further into the place. When I was young, this place did not exist as it does now, but the place I needed would not have changed.Looking for the right door to lead us to where I needed to go, I replied, “the building itself is likely a thousand years old, give or take. However, it was built on top of what we are after. And that is as old as I am, if not older again.”“Oh, then how do you know it still exists?” Max then asked as we found ourselves at a dead end. I frowned and turned us back around to find another way to where we needed to be.“Because life itself would not have remained stable th

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   Group Bonding

Walking through one hall, I could see the location where I assumed we needed to be. The only question was how to get there. This place was more akin to a maze than a place people once spent a lot of time in. Many of the doors that one would assume would lead there were dead-ends.I stayed ahead of the group, though the others seemed to have become increasingly curious about Max and were now hounding him with questions. Most of them were harmless, but others were making him flustered.I knew if I acted protectively, the questions would only grow in number and worse for him, so I tried my best to ignore them.“So you’re descended from dragons?” Kayden asked as we turned back around to find another path. “But you have got no powers and are pretty much human? Can they awaken your blood? Mine was from blood, but I don’t know how it works for your people.”“I don’t think so,” Max replied, rubbing the back of

It felt like it had taken us hours to find the path to the overpass. I wondered if this wasn’t a spell the spirits had put over the place to keep them safe from intruders that might cause harm to the land they had taken as their own. The staircase down led us to what almost seemed like a mere storage room. Of course, there would be a trick to getting into the lower areas below the tower, but we would need to find the secret passageway. The others' chattering continued even as we searched. “So what was it you guys had come here for?” Max asked. “Did one of you get possessed too?” “Ah, no,” Kayden replied. “We came to find out why Rakesh’s powers and memory were gone. Or dwindling, at least. Rem’s with us because he decided that his new pack was getting too frustrating when they kept bothering him about offspring or something.” “S-shut up!” Rem’s retort was short, simple, but not effective at all. “It wasn’t even the werewolves asking about it…” he then said, much quieter than befor

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   Rakesh's Wish

Stepping further into the crystal caves, I could tell something was off about this place. It had been centuries since my father and I had come here, but there should have been no reason for it to change when it was the spot where the spirits were always at their strongest. Physically, it looked the same, but I sensed something was wrong. This place should have been as immortal and unchanging as we Gods. Yet beyond the beauty of the crystals and the awe we all felt, the place seemed almost lifeless. As though barely any spirits remained here, giving life to the surrounding area. I could tell none of the others could sense what I could. Even immortals are not as in tune with the spirits as I am.As we make our way closer to the cave's centre, I get a better look at the larger crystal. As I expected, most of it looks dull compared to how I remembered it used to be. It still shines and glows, but not as brilliant as it once did.The spirit hovering by Kayden returned to the crystal and ci

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   No Simple Fix

My words have the group surprised, but more so my anger at Rakesh’s foolish wish had them worried I might hurt him. Fortunately for the fool, killing him now wouldn’t fix things, nor would it make me feel any better.“I don’t think he meant for it to include Gods and spirits,” Kayden tried to assure me. I knew he was right. It wasn’t as though Rakesh meant for this to happen, but he should have known better than to be vague with the spirits. What was worse was he didn’t remember any of this himself. Had he remembered, then I could have fixed his mess before it got this far. Unfortunately, it had been far too many years that this would not be a simple fix.Looking back at Rakesh, Kayden offered a comforting smile before he returned his attention to me. "He only meant to include the Ancient Ones. We were once humans after all. So it would make sense to wish for them to return to being mortals. Right?"I let a slight

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   High Price To Pay

I can’t believe what they’re asking for. Someone who is currently between worlds of life and death, but one also between mortal and Godhood? Out of our group, only one fits that bill. I slowly gaze at Max in disbelief. They would ask for him as payment? Why not my blood? Or my father’s?“What is it?” Max asks, having not heard anything from the spirits. I can’t answer him. If he gives them his blood, it might kill him or backfire in any other number of ways.I turn back towards the crystal and the few spirits that linger and demand they ask for some other payment. However, they merely ask for the same thing again and again. Letting me know they will not change their mind.“Damn it!” I yell furiously. “Damn it all to Annwn!”The group behind me jumped at my sudden outrage. Only Max stays near me, as though unafraid of my anger. I don’t need to look at him to sense his worry for me as I feel his hand gently touch my back in comfort.“Arwen? What’s wrong? Won’t they help?” He asks, his v

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   The Only Way

As my eyes flash gold, I put all of my magical prowess into casting this spell. I would never have used such a spell on Max, as it isn’t really a solution to the problem we’re facing. However, it will keep him alive and safe until I can figure out a way to free him from Hafgan’s soul as well as ensure the spirits don’t become unhappy. Slowly, Max closes his eyes, falling into a deep sleep while a layer of crystals creeps up from his toes to his head, engulfing him in the magical shield I’ve cast over him. I don’t stop casting the spell until every inch of Max has been covered. It is only then; I allow the exhaustion to wash over me, bringing me down onto my knees. I pant heavily and glance up at my lover. He looks so peaceful within the crystals that it seems almost unreal that he has suffered at all. I turn to the three remaining men and grunt, “this won’t save him, and until I’ve recovered, I can’t do anything else. We should be safe here, but if any of you know a way to fix this,

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   Most Important Person

Once I’ve rested enough to have regained my strength and powers to a more acceptable level, I slowly stand up. Casting the spell to delay Max’s end had taken its toll on me, but it was worth it in order to keep him alive. With a look at the others, I can’t help but think they are waiting for me to make some kind of order. There isn’t much that they can do to help, though perhaps they can still help me look. This place must still have some lore of old… books or old stories passed down through the generations?“I wish we could help you more. Is there really nothing we can do?” Kayden asks. The tone of his voice is filled with sorrow. These beings are gentle in nature, even with one another, despite their differences. It is both strange and wondrous to behold. With a small sigh, I look at Max and give it some thought. “I will not give up hope, even if it takes a thousand years. Until I find the solution, I’m unsure what I should do. There has to be something that will aid me, but I am un

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   The Last Chapter

With lips interlocked, I felt Max’s legs lock around my hips as I slammed hard into him again and again. Last night’s round hadn’t been enough for him, and I was happy to oblige his mood for more. With his stamina, I knew he wouldn’t settle down until I had completely satisfied him. Another moan escaped from his mouth into mine as I felt his fingers tighten in my hair. He was near the edge of his limits again, and so was I. With a few more thrusts deep inside of Max, I felt him tense around my shaft for a moment before a louder moan escaped from him. With his panting and the warmness now against my skin, I knew he had cum. I offered him one more kiss, which he greedily accepted. With him completely in the moment, I thrust in and out of him a few more times before finding my successive release. As I rolled onto my side, I closed my eyes and breathed in heavily. I was exhausted, and all I could wonder was how did Max have so much stamina? I soon felt a warm and cold tingle against my

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   Honeymoon Bonding Ritual

Gazing around the hotel, I couldn’t help but feel somewhat nostalgic about being back in the mortal world. We only had the weekend before our time ran out. There were too many royal duties to take care of, and for only so long, I could leave Harri in charge. Though he wasn’t entirely alone. My father had agreed to act as his advisor. While he wasn’t sure about Harri, he saw no reason to spark up the old rivalry he and Hafgan had once shared. He merely felt it was best to make sure Harri had someone to help him if he needed it.“Are you thinking about home again?” Max said, catching me in my thoughts and calling me out on them. He smirked and shook his head. “They’ll be fine,” he added and ushered me further into the hotel. The mortal realm seemed no different. The slight imbalance had done no lasting damage to how things worked. In fact, the humans had not even noticed any differences, and still did not know about the supernatural beings that shared their space. It was so safe that I

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   Wedding befitting Royalty

As I wait at the royal altar, I gaze over at all the different people standing at the pews. Although I would have not minded making this a small wedding, my father and mother both handled everything. From the location, to how close to old customs we went and to the dress code.To my surprise, even the phoenixes had come to see me marry Max. Thankfully, nothing had gone haywire between our three groups and we were now on decent terms. I wouldn’t say we were friendly, exactly, but everyone was slowly coming around.Harri stood next to me. He looked more nervous than I was, yet I was the one being married. Anything could happen, or could go wrong, someone might have an objection to the union, or someone might try assassinating someone. There were so many variables that could go wrong. As the organs started playing, my heart pounded rapidly against my chest. This was actually it. I had waited so long for this moment, and now it was here. There have been times I thought I would never get m

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   Royal Discussion

I never thought this day would come. I could feel the wave of emotions drown me as the tailor forced me to stand perfectly still while they dressed me for the occasion. All that was now left were the last few preparations, but it seemed like it was taking forever to get them all done.Harri was in the room with me so that the tailor could do the last few adjustments on his clothes, too. He was utterly silent, despite how joyous the occasion was. I tried to reach out to him through my mind, but he shut me out easily. Ever since he and Max had reached maturity, he had become much more standoffish with me.Once the tailor had finished, I ordered them out of the room so that I could speak with Harri privately. If he didn’t want to converse through our minds, then perhaps the issue was something that could only be handled with no one else around.I glanced at the door briefly. We had a little time before we needed to go, so if I was to find out what the issue was, then it had to be now. Tu

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   Confessions

As soon as I stepped through the portal, I spotted Max being swarmed by those who had tried to help us before. I wasn’t sure how they would feel about Max being almost as old now as he had been when he had ‘died’. The last they had seen him, he was nothing but an egg. Yet time hadn’t been so long for them. Zach and Rem’s daughter was still relatively young in comparison. However, she was walking now, at least. She was bright-eyed and full of wonder and if I didn’t know any better, I wouldn’t have known she was a born Spirit. I wondered what her future would be, but with how safe things seemed, I was sure she had a bright life ahead of her. “I can’t believe how big he has gotten already,” Zach said as our group showed Max around various locations around Cardiff to see if any of them sparked any memories of his. “Loona has skyrocketed, but she is only slightly above human average,” he added as he pushed her along in the pram. She might have been old enough to walk, but

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   Max and Harri

It had taken me most of the night to get the message across to the group I had planned to meet us. When I had finished, I went to bed, not knowing how long Max would give me before he decided he had waited long enough. I must have been in such a deep sleep when Max showed up, as I didn’t hear him enter my bedroom. It wasn’t until I heard some faint whispering in my ear that I knew anyone was there. My eyes snapped open while my body went into fight-or-flight mode. Had I not realised who it was, I know I would have lashed out. “S-sorry,” Max softly apologised. “I called your name outside several times, King Arwen, but you were still fast asleep.” With a long sigh, I shook my head. “It’s fine, just be careful, Max,” I replied and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. “It took a little while to get our guides to agree to our visit, so I was awake late.” Max nodded slowly. As I sat up in bed, he twisted around so that he couldn’t see my half-naked body. I rarely

  • Under the Crimson Moon: A Dragon's Pride   Growing Up

With time working differently here than on Earth, it felt like no time had passed at all since Max and Hafgan, who we had renamed Harri, had grown up. I had spent as much time with them as my duties had allowed, and trained them in the ways of dragon-kind, along with Healing-Frost. She had been a wonderful surrogate mother for the twins, and with her on my side, the other ice dragons seemed more at ease and followed her suggestions to work together towards peace. I couldn’t have asked for a better helper than her. Thankfully, Harri had never questioned his new name or brought up any memories from his past life as Hafgan. Both me and Healing-Frost had been keeping a close watch on him and his mind, just to be certain. I wasn’t sure if the phoenix had planned for the two souls to be split into twins, or for Harri to not have his memories, but I was thankful. Harri had his own body once more and had no drive to forcefully take the throne, and that was all that m

A little over a month later…My feet pound on the stone floor as I make haste towards the hatchery. I can’t believe it is finally time. I thought the egg would never hatch, but now it was finally time. My days have been filled with wondering when this day would finally come.As I entered the hatchery, my feet skidded across the ground until I found my balance again. Most of our eggs have hatched now, but Max’s egg was finally ready. I stared at the door to the cold room. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I could handle what might be a disappointment if who hatched was not Max at all.Shaking my head, I knew I couldn’t wait any longer. I absolutely must find out who it was that had been reborn. So far, no one could sense the one inside of the egg. It was agony not knowing, but I busied myself with my duties.Opening the door, I felt the coldness hit me. It was like a freezer in here, and only Healing-Frost and the egg could ha
