Shame And Embarrassment

June was pacing by the door when Veil stalked in, walking right past her into the living room. She threw herself on the couch, flung her purse to the table, and buried her face in her hands.

“Veil Hart!” June yelled, walking over to her with a fierce yet concerned look. “Where the hell have you been? I’ve been calling you for the past ten hours, and you didn’t pick up one call. Do you know how worried I have been?”

“You’re yelling,” Veil grumbled, squinting up at her best friend. “I have a headache, and you’re not making it any better.”

Although June went to sit beside her, she was still upset. “How about you start by telling me where you’ve been? I’ll see about getting you an aspirin.”

“I don’t know,” Veil shrugged, then leaned against the backrest.

“You don’t know what?” June thought she was going to pass out from anxiety. “Where you’ve been or whether you need the aspirin.”

“I went for a couple of drinks with Orleans and …”

“Orleans? The cute guy who was here the other day?”
