Riley's POV

I wasn’t sure if it was the whiskey or the rush of doing something completely out of character, but as I stared at Steven, I felt a thrill unlike anything I’d ever experienced.

Was I really doing this?

Steven leaned casually against the wall, his eyes glinting with amusement as he caught me sneaking a glance at him.

“Nervous?” he asked, his tone teasing but gentle.

I shrugged, playing it cool.

“Just… new to this kind of thing.”

He chuckled, the sound warm and rich.

“Relax, Riley. We’re just two people enjoying each other’s company. No pressure.”

His reassurance calmed me a little, but I couldn’t deny the flutter of anticipation coursing through me.

Steven set his wallet and keys on the dresser before turning to me with an easy grin.

“Only the best for my company tonight.”

I rolled my eyes, but a small smile tugged at my lips.

“Smooth.”

He laughed and picked up the phone on the nightstand.

“What do you drink? I’ll have room service bring us something.”

Riley's POV The sun was shining brighter, or at least it seemed that way when I stared at it.As I walked into the office building, a bounce in my step and a smile plastered across my face, I couldn’t remember the last time I felt this light. It would have probably been in a while because that was the only reason to explain why I felt this happy.I have been to a lot of hookups and one nightstands but being with Steven last night was as if I was in a whole new dimension.I just couldn't stop asking myself how I got to have this beaming smile plastered on my face when just yesterday I felt frustrated. Was it the thrill of last night with Steven? The taste of freedom after breaking my agreement with Jaxon? Maybe it was both. Either way, it felt like the universe had decided to throw me a bone for once, and I was all too happy to accept it. “Morning, Riley!” “Good morning!” I greeted every co-worker who passed me, something I didn’t usually do unless it was absolutely necessary.

  • Under His Command    Checkmate

Jaxon's POV I leaned back in my chair, the picture of calm control, even as Riley sat across from me, visibly tense and glaring at Steven with a mixture of confusion and betrayal. His jaw tightened, his fingers curled into fists in his lap, and his lips were pressed into a hard line. For a moment, I simply observed him, letting the silence stretch. I could feel the weight of his unease in the room, a tension that made the air almost stop. Finally, I broke the silence, leaning forward with a faint smirk. “You know, Riley,” I said, my tone smooth, deliberate. “There’s something you need to understand about me—something most people figure out the hard way.” Riley’s gaze snapped to me, his anger barely contained. “What are you talking about?” I clasped my hands together and rested them on the desk, my eyes never leaving his. “Nobody crosses me and wins. Nobody. Because I’m not just a player in the game—I own the game. I am the game master.” He flinched, his brow furrowing, b

  • Under His Command    Bound by Chains

Jaxon's POV Victory tasted sweet, much better everytime I experienced it, and I savored every moment of it. Riley sat across from me, his body tense, his lips pressed together as if to hold back a thousand things he wanted to say. His hands fidgeted in his lap, betraying the cracks in his resolve. I tilted my head, watching him with cool amusement. “Well, Riley,” I said, breaking the silence, “I suppose you’ve realized now that resistance is futile.” His head snapped up, and for a brief moment, I saw the fire in his eyes, the same fire that had first drawn me to him. But it was dimmer now, smothered by the weight of his situation. “Are you happy now?” he asked, his voice low but steady. The question gave me pause, not because of its content but because of the vulnerability laced within it. Before I could respond, a tear slipped down his cheek. He was quick to swipe it away, refusing to let me see him crumble completely. I leaned forward, resting my elbows on the desk. “

  • Under His Command    Anger

Riley's POVThe day was finally over, but I couldn’t shake the weight pressing on my chest. The office had emptied out, the usual hum of chatter replaced by silence. My coworkers had cheerfully said their goodbyes, their laughter fading into the elevator’s soft chime. I envied their freedom—free from humiliation, manipulation, and the unbearable weight of Jaxon Steele’s shadow. Sitting at my desk, I couldn’t bring myself to pack up. My fingers hovered over the keyboard, my mind running in circles over the events in Jaxon’s office. That smug look on his face, the contract, the betrayal—it all replayed like a nightmare. “Riley?” Chloe’s voice broke through the haze. I flinched, not realizing she was still here. She stood beside my desk, her bag slung over her shoulder, concern etched into her face.“You’ve been weird since you came back from Jaxon’s office,” she said, folding her arms. “What happened? Did he say something to you?” I tried to put on a fake smile but it was too

  • Under His Command    A Step into the Shadows

Riley's POV Now that I was alone, everything felt dark and bleak, as if there was no point in anything I was doing. I had been reduced to a puppet, Jaxon's bloody puppet, and I had no other choice than to go with whatever he wanted, no questions asked.I wondered why I had not ran away the moment I discovered how much of a psychopath he was, but I guess a little part of me sort of enjoyed fooling around with my boss. How stupid I was.I made my way downstairs, the elevator ride feeling unbearably long. By the time I stepped into the lobby, the evening air seeped in through the glass doors, its chill wrapping around me. Shit, how long had I spent crying upstairs?I hadn't expected to be met with this sort of darkness, at least not by this time.I pulled my coat tighter and fished out my phone, ready to book an Uber and put this day behind me. However, the app spun endlessly, refusing to connect. “Seriously?” I muttered, refreshing the screen. The bar circled in a loop, mocking

  • Under His Command    Gripped by Fear

Riley's POV I couldn’t remember the last time I’d been this scared, and I wasn’t sure how to handle it. There was no way to predict what these men wanted, or what they were going to do. I tried to steady my breath, consciously slowing the panicked gasps that wanted to escape. The man in front of me—the tallest of the three—stepped closer. I could see the glint of something sharp in his hand, though I didn’t dare look too closely. His eyes narrowed as he sized me up, and I felt a wave of nausea rush over me. "Are you a worker at Steele Company?" he asked.I didn’t hesitate to answer, my voice betraying my fear. "Yes," I replied, trying to keep my tone steady, "I work there." The man’s lips curled into a sly smile, and the two others behind him did the same. My stomach turned at the sight. There was something malicious in their grins, something that told me I was in deeper trouble than I had initially thought. "Steele Company, huh?" the man mused. "That’s interesting." I

  • Under His Command    Jaxon's Thoughts

Jaxon's POV The hum of the engine reverberated through the car as I leaned back in my seat, my eyes filled quiet satisfaction. The day had been a long one, but the result—my result—was undeniable. Riley was finally under my control. The victory felt almost too easy. I glanced at the contract resting on my lap. Riley had signed it, and with that signature, he had sealed his fate. Riley had tried to resist, but it had been futile. All it had taken was a few calculated moves—threats, humiliation, and the right amount of leverage—and Riley had been broken. It was beautiful, really. How swiftly everything had fallen into place. I shifted in his seat, my fingers still gripping the edges of the contract, and glanced out the window. The city lights flashed by in a blur of color, but my mind was elsewhere. I remembered Riley’s face—those moments of defiance, of anger, before he had finally given in. And then the last look Riley had given me before signing the contract: resignation. A

  • Under His Command    Mine to Protect

Jaxon’s POVThe scent of freshly brewed coffee filled the interior of my sleek, black Mercedes as I leaned back in the leather seat, my jaw clenched in irritation. I thought buying a hot cup of beverage from a local drive-in would sooth the anger in my chest, but I had been wrong. The dashboard clock blinked back at me—9:23 PM. The streets outside were cloaked in shadows, lit only by flickering streetlights as we drove by.“This is ridiculous,” I muttered under my breath. Steven, who perhaps had the same thought and frustration as I did, glanced at me from the corner of his eye. He knew better than to interrupt my thoughts, especially when I was fuming. I wasn’t supposed to be here. My day had ended hours ago, yet here I was, dragged back to the office because Alexis, the one person I literally cannot say no to, had thrown a fit over her damn Russian cookies that I had forgot back at the office. I’d screamed at her twice in my head today, but as always, I couldn’t bring myself to

  • Under His Command    The Weight of Gossip

Jaxon's POV The sound of murmured conversations echoed faintly as Chloe and I walked through the halls of my company. My sharp, polished shoes hit the floor in an unrelenting rhythm, but the sound couldn’t drown out the undertones of whispers. It wasn’t just curiosity anymore; the office was alive with rumours, feeding off the chaos that anonymous text had sparked. Riley’s name came on tongues like a scandalous secret, and every time I passed a group of employees, the whispers came into my ears, sometimes cutting off abruptly when I made eye contact. Chloe matched my walking speed, her pace brisk, but her lips were pressed into a thin line. The tension radiating off her was palpable. She was holding herself together, but the twitch in her jaw betrayed her growing frustration. “Doesn’t this bother you?” Chloe broke the silence, her voice sharp and direct. “The stares? The gossip? The whispers behind your back?” I kept my expression neutral, though a small smirk tugged at the

  • Under His Command    Beginning of Chaos Part 2

Riley's POV An Hour AgoThe coffee in my hands was warm, untouched since Chloe and I left the café near her apartment. I wasn’t really tasting anything today—not the coffee, not the sandwich I barely finished earlier. All I could feel was the suffocating weight of last night pressing down on me. “So, you didn’t sleep at all?” Chloe asked, glancing at me as we walked toward the office building. “No,” I admitted, the exhaustion heavy in my voice. “Not really. I kept going over everything Eric said. Everything I said.” Chloe frowned, her grip tightening on her own coffee cup. “I still can’t believe it. You and Eric… done, just like that?” I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “It’s not like I didn’t see it coming. I’ve been pulling away from him for weeks now. Months, maybe.” “But not like this,” she pressed, her voice tinged with worry. “Not with him finding out the way he did. That’s rough, Riley. For both of you.” “I know,” I said, my voice quiet. “I didn’t want it

  • Under His Command    Beginning of Chaos Part 1

Riley's POV Several Hours AgoThe day had been perfect. The kind of perfect that almost felt borrowed, like a fleeting moment too good to be real. Jaxon and I had spent hours on the road, escaping the high walls of his mansion and the suffocating expectations of the world around us. For once, there were no prying eyes, no bodyguards lurking in the background, and no sense of duty hanging over our heads. Just the hum of the engine, the open road, and his laughter filling the car. Now, as he parked outside my house, I couldn’t help but smile. My chest felt light, like the weight I’d been carrying for so long had been lifted—at least for now. “Home sweet home,” Jaxon said, his deep voice warm with amusement as he shifted the car into park. He leaned back, his hand resting casually on the steering wheel, his piercing eyes studying me in the dim glow of the streetlights. “Thanks for the ride,” I said, unclipping my seatbelt. He smirked. “Thanks for letting me have you for the d

  • Under His Command    Exposed

Jaxon's POV The elevator hummed softly as it ascended to the top floor of Steele Enterprises. My coffee was warm in one hand, a welcome change against the chilled, calculated environment of my company. The morning rush had seemed ordinary enough as I entered the building—polished floors, a field of ringing phones, and the steady shuffle of employees moving to their posts. But as I exited the elevator into the open expanse of my floor, the usual air of efficiency felt…off. Eyes darted in my direction—furtive glances stolen from behind computer screens, a few whispers quickly hushed as I passed. Conversations died the moment I entered earshot, and a few employees pretended to be busy with tasks that were clearly fake on the spot. “What the hell is going on?” I muttered under my breath, straightening my tie and walking with purpose. By the time I reached the door to my office, my agitation was simmering beneath the surface. My assistant, Natalie, was already waiting for me. N

  • Under His Command    Shifting Gears

Riley's POV The crisp morning air wrapped around me as Jaxon and I stepped out of the mansion, our shoes clicking against the polished stone driveway. The sunlight was soft, casting golden glow over the sleek, black car parked at the front. I could feel the tension in my shoulders easing, but a new wave of anxiety took its place as Jaxon’s bodyguards stepped forward, their stern faces unreadable. “Mr. Steele,” one of them said, his voice firm, “we’ll be accompanying you today.” “No,” Jaxon replied immediately, his tone leaving no room for argument. “Not today. I don’t need a security detail.” The guard hesitated, clearly torn between duty and obedience. “Sir, with all due respect—” “With all due respect,” Jaxon cut in, his voice a touch sharper, “I can take care of myself. This is a personal outing, and I don’t need anyone following me. Do I make myself clear?” The guard gave a curt nod, stepping back reluctantly. As we approached the car, Jaxon’s driver appeared, alre

  • Under His Command    Crossroads

Riley's POV The air around us felt thick, suffocating, as I stood frozen in the doorway, staring at Alexis. The shock on her face was palpable, her lips parted slightly, her eyes darting between me and the room behind me where Jaxon still lingered. “Alexis,” I started cautiously, my voice low but steady, “did you…hear what we were talking about?” She blinked, her expression quickly shifting from shock to something colder. Her grip tightened on the phone in her hand. “So, it’s true?” she asked, her tone sharp, laced with disbelief. “You and Jaxon?” I opened my mouth to respond, to try and salvage the moment, but she shook her head, cutting me off. “I don’t want to hear it,” she snapped, taking a step back. “Whatever excuse you’re about to come up with, save it, Riley. I don’t need it.” “Alexis, wait—” I stepped toward her, but she turned on her heel and stormed down the hallway. The echo of her footsteps was like a countdown in my chest, each one amplifying the tension i

  • Under His Command    A Fresh Start

Riley's POV The moment Jaxon opened the door, his expression was almost comical—a mixture of surprise and suspicion. His usually composed features faltered, and for a fleeting second, I caught something unguarded in his eyes. “Riley?” he asked, his voice rough and uncertain. “What are you doing here?” There was a genuineness in his tone, an unfiltered curiosity that made me want to smile despite myself. For all his arrogance and bravado, there were these rare moments when Jaxon Steele felt refreshingly real. I cleared my throat, willing my voice to stay steady after breaking a few seconds ago.“I need to talk to you. Can we do that inside?” I asked. His brows furrowed for a second, and then, as if snapping out of his initial shock, he stepped aside, holding the door open for me. “Sure. Come in.” I stepped inside, my sneakers sinking into the plush carpet of the foyer. His mansion was everything you’d expect from a man like Jaxon: luxurious, modern, and pristine, yet it fe

  • Under His Command    A Restless Mind in a Beautiful Day

Jaxon's POV The sun streamed through the tall windows of my study, bathing the room in a golden glow. It was one of those days that seemed almost too perfect to belong to late autumn. Outside, the air must have smelled of leaves and sweet nature, but inside my mansion, there was only the faint scent of fresh coffee lingering from earlier in the morning. I sat at my desk, surrounded by neat stacks of documents waiting for my signature, but my pen hovered over the paper, unmoving. My mind refused to focus. Riley. I leaned back in my chair, exhaling sharply. The way Riley had looked at me yesterday—it was as if I’d punched him in the gut. Hurt, betrayal, and something else I couldn’t quite name had flashed in his eyes before he quickly masked it. But I’d seen it, and it stuck with me, gnawing at the edges of my concentration. “Jaxon, are you even listening to me?” Alexis’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. She was seated on the couch in my study, her legs tucked beneath

  • Under His Command    A Friend in Need

Riley's POV The living room was dimly lit, the soft glow of the TV screen casting flickering shadows on the walls. I sat curled up on the couch with a bowl of half-melted chocolate ice cream in one hand and a spoon in the other, watching yet another predictable romance movie. On-screen, the couple laughed, flirted, and danced their way toward a happily-ever-after. But instead of feeling warm and fuzzy, I felt hollow, like I was watching a life I couldn’t quite grasp.I took another spoonful of ice cream, letting the sweetness dissolve on my tongue as I tried—and failed—to stop the endless loop playing in my head. Jaxon and Daniel. I’d only seen it for a split second, but the image was as vivid as if it had been burned into my brain. Jaxon’s hand on Daniel’s back. The way Daniel had leaned into him, their lips locked in a kiss so deep it made my stomach churn. I wasn’t sure what hurt more—the fact that it had happened or the fact that it shouldn’t have bothered me in the first
