Eloise looked at the man in front of her in disbelief. If earlier she thought that he was a little bit off in the head, now she thinks that he had gone extremely insane.
She held onto the door handle and attempted to get out.
“Hear me out,” Vaughn said, holding onto her arm.
She faced him, a little bit afraid.
“Did you just ask me to marry you?” she asked, clarifying what he had just said.
“And be my surrogate,” he added.
“Wow,” Eloise said, absent-mindedly chuckling to herself. “You’re crazy. You’re literally crazy!”
“I’m going crazy, too,” Vaughn said. “But this is the only way I could think of to help with my situation.”
“Whatever it is—I don’t want to hear it,” she said. “Just let me out.”
“Look,” Vaughn sighed. “I have a girlfriend.”
“All the more why you shouldn’t be asking me this!” she exclaimed.
“But my parents do not want me to be with her,” he said.
“I still don’t see how any of this is my problem.”
“My dad is the CEO of Ryder Enterprises,” he said, causing Eloise’s eyes to go wide.
“I can’t explain everything to you,” he said. “But I need to marry another woman and have a family before I turn 28 so that I can get the company and my inheritance.”
Eloise was still confused as hell.
“Why me, then? Why are you asking me to marry you when there’s probably plenty of girls out there that would die to be in my position?”
“Because I might just have what you need,” Vaughn smirked.
“And what might that be?” she asked with one eyebrow raised.
“Money,” he said.
Eloise scoffed. “I don’t need your money,” she said. “We’re doing fine on our own. So, let me out,” she said, attempting to get out on her own.
“Is that really the case?” he asked. “What about your brother’s cancer treatment?”
She stopped trying to open the doors and faced him once again.
“How do you know that?” she asked.
“The curtains were thin,” he answered. “I heard everything.”
“You invaded our privacy,” she said. “And I can pay for my brother’s cancer treatment.”
“That doesn’t seem like it,” he said with a smirk. “50,000 dollars? I might just be the person you need. So, why don’t we help each other?”
She scoffed as she fiddled with her hands.
“Do you think I’ll be swayed with money?”
He shrugged his shoulders. “It’s up to you.”
Eloise bit her lip and felt tears brimming in her eyes. She hates situations where she feels she couldn’t do anything at all.
“Let me out,” she said in a quiet voice.
Vaughn sighed and finally unlocked the doors.
As she opened the door, Vaughn held onto her hand and placed a calling card on her palm.
“If ever you change your mind, you could give me a call,” he said.
Eloise roughly grasped on the card tightly before slamming the car door close, not bothering to glance at him.
As she entered their house, she saw his brother sleeping on the couch. Since the apartment they were renting only had one room, Cameron opted to sleep all alone in the living room.
She smiled sadly as she sat down on the edge of the couch, brushing her brother’s hair away from his face.
“I would give you the world if I could,” she whispered under her breath.
She then looked at the calling card in her arms and sighed.
Vaughn Ryder.
But, at what price?

“Why are you up so early, babe?” she heard Alina say from behind him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders.
He turned around and lightly smiled at her. She hadn’t gone home for the past three days since she was busy with her shoot, so they had a long night full of intimacy.
“Alina,” he sat up from the bed. “Can I talk to you about something?”
Alina sighed as she looked at her boyfriend’s face.
“Is this about having a family again?” she asked. “I already told you, Vaughn. I can’t risk my career right now.”
“I know,” he said. “And I respect that. But my parents have been demanding me for a family and a new woman.”
She looked at him with pitiful eyes. “Your parents have never been fond of me, right?”
“I don’t know,” he muttered under his breath. “But they wouldn’t give me the company as long as I won’t show them that I have my own family.”
“What?” Alina exclaimed in shock, also sitting up from the bed. “Why would they do that?”
“Again, I don’t know,” he said. “But I have a solution.”
“What is it?” she asked.
“A surrogate,” he said. “I’m going to find a surrogate that I’ll marry temporarily. And once the company has been handed to me and we already have a child, I’ll get a divorce with her and marry you instead.”
Alina looked at him with shock.
“That can’t be,” she said. “You’re not going to marry another woman besides me!”
Alina felt resentful in her heart. Her career was just starting out, and she couldn’t have made it this far without Vaughn’s help and money. She can’t afford to lose him to a useless surrogate!
“My cards all have limits now,” he sighed, massaging the bridge of his nose. “If this goes on, I won't be able to give you the things that you want.”
She bit her lips. Then, does that mean that she wouldn’t be able to buy new designer clothes and bags anymore? And what about the car that she’s been planning to ask him to buy for her?
Vaughn held onto her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze.
“This will all be temporary,” Vaughn assured. “Give it at least a year. Then, I’ll be able to marry you and give you everything in the world right then and there.”
Alina thought about it. If this means he would stop pestering him about a child that’s just going to ruin her body, then it’s worth taking the risk. And if he gets the company to himself, it’s most likely that she’s going to be more successful.
“Okay,” she finally agreed. “Just a year, okay? Then I’ll have you all to myself.”
Vaughn nodded his head.
“Just a year.”

Eloise bit her lip as she looked at the calling card once more.
She can’t believe that she’s actually considering Vaughn’s offer after she called him insane.
She had some money saved up for when she wanted to get into acting school—a total of 12,000 dollars. She has been saving up for it since she was in high school, and she has no hesitation in spending it for her brother.
However, she knew that it could only take him to at least three cycles, and to add to that, they also had other expenses in the house that she had to pay for. She also hasn’t been able to find a third job, either.
As she counted the money in her safe, she heard Cameron coughing from outside her room.
She locked the safe and quickly went out. She went beside her brother and gently rubbed his back.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” she gently asked.
Cameron nodded as he drank some water.
“My throat’s just been feeling dry.”
Eloise sighed as she observed Cameron’s appearance. He had pale lips, pale palms, and bruises along his skin. She couldn’t help but frown as she wondered how much pain he must be in.
“Relax,” he said in a cheery tone. “I’m fine. Still alive.”
Barely.
He needs treatment—even she could already tell that.
“Wait here, okay?” she said, walking back to her room.
She really didn’t think that she would agree to what Vaughn had proposed. But after seeing her brother’s condition, she knew she had to make the sacrifice.
With shaky fingers, she dialed his number on the phone.
It took a couple of rings before he answered.
“Hello?” he answered in that deep voice of his. “Who is this?”
“It’s me,” Eloise said.
“Eloise,” he said, surprised by her sudden call.
She let out a deep breath as she said her next sentence.
“I’ll do it,” she said. “I’ll be your surrogate.”
Eloise tapped her foot on the ground as she waited for Vaughn to arrive. After she finally accepted his proposition, the two of them decided to meet at a cafe to discuss everything that was bound to happen in their marriage and her surrogacy. After a few moments, he finally arrived. It was easy to spot him with his expensive clothes and aura. Even some of the customers looked over his way when he came in. She couldn’t help but shake her head. He sat down in front of him and ordered from the waiter. “What do you want?” he asked. She shook her head. She already browsed through the menu a while ago, and she didn’t want to spend 11 dollars on a cup of coffee. “It’s alright,” she said. “I already ate at home.” He sighed and ordered a bunch of stuff, probably much more than he could eat. However, she let it go since he probably has more money than she would ever know. “So,” Eloise said. “How are we going to do this?” “I only want two things,” Vaughn said, leaning back against his
“Cameron,” Eloise said, gently shaking him awake.“Sis?” he woke up, rubbing his eyes awake. “You’re home?”“Yeah,” she smiled. “Did you wait up for me?”He nodded his head, still with sleepy eyes. “Where did you go?”She sat down next to him and ruffled his hair, causing him to groan in annoyance.“Not the hair,” he muttered under his breath.“You should have went to sleep if you were tired,” she said.He shook his head. “You always come home late because of your job. You’re rarely in the house too since you keep working because of me.”She smiled. “And I enjoy it very much.”He looked her in the eyes. “You should also rest sometimes, Eloise.”“I know,” she softly smiled. “But just seeing you already energizes me.”He chuckled. “Gross,” he said. She gently pushed him away before divulging the news that she could finally pay for his treatment.“I’ve found a way,” she opened up. “I can pay for your treatment now, Cam.”She thought her brother was going to be elated. However, a frown su
“You’re so hard to please,” Eloise muttered under her breath.“Let’s go,” he coldly said, not even bothering to spare her another glance. They got into the car and drove off to Vaughn’s parents' house.“We’re near,” Vaughn said, and that was the time when Eloise felt nervous. She felt her heart beating faster in her chest, so she had to close her eyes and calm herself down. When they pulled out to a large mansion’s driveway, her heart beat even faster (if that was even possible at this point). She gazed at the mansion with wide eyes and shook her head in disbelief. She knew that he was rich, but damn, he’s really fucking rich.“Pay attention,” he said, snapping her out of her thoughts. She shook her head and looked at him.“What did you say?”He sighed impatiently.“I was telling you about how we met. Let’s keep it simple and say that we met at the hospital. It was love at first sight, and I didn’t want to waste anymore time, so I asked you to marry after a month of dating.”“Yuck,” s
Eloise's eyes widened in surprise while Vaughn frowned.“What are you talking about, mom?” he asked in an aggravated voice.“Come on, honey,” his mom urged with a smile. “It’s not like the two of you haven’t done anything worse before,” she winked, insinuating that they already had sex since Eloise is supposedly already pregnant. “Unless you’re not telling the truth,” she glanced at her stomach.Eloise stiffened at her statement. Did she become suspicious after their conversation? It seemed like Vaughn had the same idea as her as he suddenly held onto her chin and gently leaned in.Wait, what? He’s really going to do it?The two of them had talked about it during their contract signing—they could engage in simple intimate acts like kisses and hugs only when they’re around Vaughn’s parents. Before she could even react, she had already felt his warm lips against hers. The feeling was foreign but it wasn’t bad. His lips were surprisingly soft, and it sent shivers down her spine. It was q
“Am I going to lose my virginity?” she asked as she scrubbed her body with the fragrant wash in the bathroom. She had never even thought this far.She knew she was going to carry a baby, but the process before it was not something she was prepared for.She only had gotten her first kiss yesterday—and that was with Vaughn. She can’t believe that her first sexual experience will be with him too.Eloise doesn’t really have a clue what to do with relationships and stuff like sex. After dropping out of high school when her father died, she basically became a working machine. She was the only one who could earn a decent amount of money since Cameron was still a minor at that time while her mother suffered greatly because of her dad’s passing. In the end, she spent most of her youth working countless jobs and trying to make ends meet.Of course, the concept of relationships wasn’t foreign—she was a hopeless romantic deep inside her heart. And she actually imagined her first time being with s
“Umm, I’m sorry?” Eloise asked, giving her the benefit of the doubt. Alina crossed her arms in front of her chest. “Don’t act innocent now. I know why you’re doing all of this—you want Vaughn’s money. And I won’t be surprised if you want him too.”Eloise frowned. “For all you know, Vaughn was the one who proposed all of this. I agreed because I needed the money. But don’t forget that you need the baby too,” she countered. Alina’s face became red, and she seemed not to know how to refute Eloise’s statement. “I don’t care how your deal was made,” she said. “All I know is that you better not come between the two of us. I didn’t work this hard for our relationship just for a beggar like you to come and ruin it.”Eloise sighed in disbelief. She was about to respond when Vaughn came back. The cunning look on Alina’s face suddenly turned sweet, and she wrapped her arms around his biceps, leaning against him while smirking at me. “Let’s go?” she asked him, very in contrast with how she

Vaughn sighed. “The doctor said it’ll be the fastest way to get her pregnant,” he said. “I already told my parents that Eloise is pregnant, so this is the easiest bet." Alina glared at him. “Why can’t we just continue with this artificial process? Can’t your parents wait a little more?” “I want to continue it that way, too, babe,” he said, rubbing her back. “But I’m afraid it would take too long.” “Whatever,” she muttered under her breath. “You’re not going to have sex with that woman. She’s only using you for your money, you know? And I can’t share you with anyone else!” Alina was enraged…furious, even. She didn’t like the idea of Vaughn being with anybody else but her. He massaged his temples. “It will just be a one-time thing,” he sa
Eloise was woken up by the sound of a familiar voice. Still sore from the night before, she limped out of bed and trudged to the living room to find the source of the noise. She frowned when she heard Alina coming from Vaughn’s room. When did she get here? She went closer to Vaughn’s room and saw that his room was a bit ajar, which was suspicious since he always made sure to lock his door whenever Eloise was around. As she got closer, Alina’s voice became louder, and at that moment, Eloise discovered that the two of them weren't just speaking. Instead, she was moaning. Eloise knew what they were doing the moment Alina moaned Vaughn’s name. And she also knew that she shouldn’t have peaked inside. Yet, she still did.Like a masochist, she peeped inside the room and saw Alina right on top of Vaughn, appearing to have the best time of her life. She remembered what happened the night before—when she was in the same position as Alina right now.It hurt more than she had expected, a
