“You're awake.” A strange man in white muttered to Emily with a smile.

Emily frowned, wondering he was and where she was.

As her vision and sense of environment became clearer, she realized she was in the hospital and the strange man was a doctor.

She tried to sit up but was stopped by the doctor.

“Please, you need all the rest you can get.”

She frowned, looking around her and taking in the IV drip that was connected to her veins.

Her memory was hazy. She sought answers from the doctor.

“What happened?”

“You were involved in an accident Miss. You've been unconscious for three days.”

The memories came flooding back.

She remembered walking in on her sister and husband. She remembered her parents disowning her and her running away before she was blinded by the car lights.

Emily felt a chill down her spine as she recalled the painful accident.

“I've been unconscious for three days?”

“Yes,” the doctor replied,looking uncomfortable.

Emily wondered. It took a couple of minutes but she suddenly remembered.

“My baby? Is my baby fine?” She asked in a panicked tone.

He shook his head.

“I'm sorry Miss, your baby did not survive the accident.”

Emily felt her heart shatter.

“No, no!” She cried out in pain.

She yanked the IV off her hand.

“I want my baby, give me my baby.” She yelled out.

Two nurses ran into the room.

They stopped her from thrashing around and held her still.

“I'm sorry Miss, I have to sedate you. You're going to be fine.” The doctor spoke before injecting her.

“No” She mumbled before the darkness took over her.

When she woke up hours later, she was calmer.

A few tears rushed out of her eyes as she mourned the child she never got to meet.

Four years of waiting for a miracle and it was gone because of her family's betrayal.

Emily felt nothing but hatred for her former family. She wished nothing to do with them ever again.

For her dead child she was going to build herself and never let anyone hurt her again. She was done being a spare part and a fool. From that moment on, she vowed to always choose herself.

The doctor was happy to see her in a calm state.

He felt couldn't blame her for how she reacted earlier, after all losing a child was not a small matter.

“I'm glad you're doing much better, Miss.”

“Thank you” was all she muttered.

“All your hospital bills have been cleared by the man who brought you in.”

Emily remembered the silhouette she saw.

“Was he the one who hit me?”

The doctor replied “Yes. He was very sorry about the accident.”

She didn't seem to care much about it.

He handed her a phone.

“Your phone was damaged in the accident. All your information was recovered and updated on this one.”

Emily stared at the brand new iPhone.

“I'm really sorry for your loss.” The doctor muttered again.

She nodded.

“You've recovered pretty well. All you need is a day of rest and you will be discharged. If you need anything, ring the nurses. ”

As soon as he got to his office, the doctor took out his phone and dialed a number.

After the second ring, the other end picked up.

“She's awake and has recovered well.”

“I'll send someone to make negotiations.” a cold voice answered before the line went dead.

Emily turned on the new phone.

She was greeted by a flood of messages from her ex-family.

“Emily, do not be bitter. Quickly come and sign the divorce papers.”

“Emily, please come back. I know you feel guilty for pushing me. I forgive you.”

She laughed as she read more.

“Come back and sign the divorce papers so your sister can get married. It is not our family's way to give birth to a child out of wedlock.”

She laughed, wondering why she was still being referred to as family when she had been disowned.

“You cannot hide forever Emily. No matter what you do, I'll still marry Sophie. She's the one I love and she's the mother of my child. Something you could never do for me.”

She felt another wave of anger and quickly dialed Wesley's contact.

“Where h…” he began to talk but she cut him off.

“Where are the divorce papers? I want to sign them.”

He went silent for a couple of seconds, surprised by her eagerness.

“Come to the house. Don't try to play stupid games. I'll…”

She hung up on him.

Emily wondered what she was going to wear.

She remembered the doctor had asked her to ring the nurses if she needed anything.

When the nurse came, she quickly asked about her clothes.

The nurse explained they were damaged during the accident but a new set of clothes were purchased.

It was then, she realized the hospital room had a wardrobe.

She realized she must have been in one of the VIP rooms.

Immediately, she got out of bed and grabbed the change of clothes.

“What are you doing? You can't leave Ma'am . You've not been discharged.” the nurse protested.

“I have an emergency.” She announced, while changing up.

The nurse tried to stop. “I'm sorry but you cannot leave ma'am. The doctor will not be pleased.”

Emily buttoned her jeans before running her hands through her hair.

“Tell the doctor I left on my own. Please , can you help with any spare cash? You can put it on my hospital bills.”

The nurse was hesitant.

Emily begged. “Please, I was in an accident. I had nothing on me.”

The nurse pulled out some wards of cash and gave it to her.

“Please wait, let me get the doctor.”

Emily received the money with a smile.

“Thank you. I'll wait.”

A few minutes after the nurse left, she sneaked out of the hospital.

She pounded harshly on the door to what used to be her home.

Wesley opened the door with a frown. She pushed past him into the house.

“Where are the papers?”

Wesley eyed her suspiciously.

“Where have you been?”

She shot him a glare. “It's none of your business. Where are the damn papers?”

“Oh my God!! Emily, I'm so glad you're fine. I've been so worried about you.” Sophie spoke in her fake voice.

Emily spotted the papers in her hand.

She snatched the papers, ignoring her fake sign of concern.

She hastily signed the papers and threw it back at her.

“Emily, you don't have to be this rude. Mom and dad didn't mean what they said. You can go back to the house. I've helped you pack your things.

Emily eyed her. “You can take it, just like you've taken him. I want none of it.”

She began to walk away but Sophie yelled “Wait.”

Emily was shocked when Sophie walked to her, waving some cash.

“What's this for?”

“I and Wesley want to get married at once. I want you to go and change your surname. It would be awkward if you're still bearing his name after we get married.”

Emily was disgusted by her. “I don't need your money.”

“For goodness sake Emily, take the money. You have no money or where to go. Take it and quit being proud.” Wesley yelled in irritation.

Emily chuckled. “You can shove your money down your ass. I never want to see or hear from either of you again.”

She stormed out of the house.

Wesley was right about one thing. She didn't have where to go or know what to do.

Just as she was lamenting, the new phone began to ring and an unknown number flashed across the screen.

Alex’s povSitting by the bar with Ezra on a Sunday evening was not how I planned it but who cares? Plans change.I watched Ezra drink from a glass. He looked lost and wasn't acting like his usual self. On a normal day, he was bubbly and always told me to lighten up, but now, he looked like an extension of my own emotions.“Hey…” He turned to me, waiting for me to speak. “Are you…”“Ya, ya…” he answered the question before I could ask. “You don't look it…” I countered. He smirked, “Why would you say that?”“You are quiet. In a bar. That's not what you do.”He chuckled“So, let me ask again, are you fine?” He grabbed his glass of whiskey, “yes, I am. I'm just quiet, that's all.” I gave him a look but he shrugged.“Are you saying that I can't be quiet?” he

Emily’s POVThe late afternoon sun slanted low in the sky, painting the city in warm hues, but my chest still felt heavy. I couldn’t get Ava’s words out of my head, you’re scared of being happy. She hadn’t been wrong. Happiness felt like a fragile thing, something Sophie could snatch away the second I dared to hold it too tightly.I was still thinking about it when my phone buzzed again. It was Jace.Meet me at the square. Don’t ask questions.I stared at the message, a smile tugging at my lips despite myself. Jace had a way of making things sound like both an order and an invitation. I typed out a sarcastic reply: bossy much? before slipping my bag over my shoulder and heading out.The square was already buzzing when I arrived. Colorful lights blinked against the fading daylight, carnival rides whirring and whistling, music spilling from every direction.

Her and Sophie’s incident has been blowing all over social media with people calling her the ‘the jealous sister.’ If only they knew.“So….” I began the conversation, she raised her head up from her phone. “Soo…?” she asked back.“Are you going to tell me what’s going on in your mind?”She gave a weak smile, “arrgh, must I talk about it?”I tilted my head, “yes…you need to.”She then ran her fingers through her hair, “Argghh, that’s one way to put it. I just want to forget about it and get ready for tomorrow.”“Tomorrow? What's happening?” “Work…tomorrow is the day Alex starts with his merge.”“Is he still going through with that?” Emily shu

  • UNBREAK MY HEART   Chapter 67

Emily’s povThe night air was sharp against my skin, but it did nothing to cool the fire burning inside me. My heels clicked angrily against the pavement as I stormed down the driveway, each step heavier than the last. Behind me, I could still hear the faint hum of whispers, the echo of Sophie’s pitiful sobs, and my parents’ condemning silence.Of course, they believed her. They always did.I clenched the papers in my hands until they crumpled. I could taste the bitter humiliation on my tongue.Family? She dared to call us family.A laugh broke out of me, wild and raw, echoing in the still night. My own voice sounded foreign, like it belonged to someone else, like someone who is broken. My chest rose and fell in jagged waves, and for a second, I considered turning back and shoving every one of those words down Sophie’s lying throat but then I saw her face in my mind, her fake tears, her fragile trem

Sophie’s povWatching her walk into Wesley’s office made my blood boil. I wasn't done with her. I would make sure the pains she made me pass through….“She is really a slut….” I turned to see Lydia, my handy spy. She is not only obedient to the core but we also have the same interests. Take out Emily.“Did you know that this week she was promoted?” Lydia added. It surprised me because she was just promoted on Monday.“Again?” Lydia nodded, confirming it. “That’s strange….” “Yes, it is but no one is surprised. Everyone knows she sleeps with the president and is friends with his sister, so….” I smirked. That was useful information. I could use that. “ummh, Lydia.” she turned to me, “can you help me with something?”“Yeah, sure, anything.”“I need you to help me check up on the remaini

  • UNBREAK MY HEART   Chapter 65

Emily’s POV The party dragged on like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from. Laughter, clinking glasses, flashes from phones as Sophie posed with her perfectly decorated cake and baby-blue balloons. I stood in the corner, swirling my drink as if it were an anchor holding me steady. But I wasn’t steady, not even close. Every time I caught Wesley’s eyes on me across the room, something inside me clenched. He looked like a man who had already won, who had some cruel trick up his sleeve. I hated him for it. I hated that part of me still wanted him to look at me, even if it was with malice. After Sophie’s toast, fake tears, and all the crowd began to thin out. Parents and distant relatives gathered their coats, and the endless stream of Sophie’s influencer friends posted their final stories before tri
