Thirty six

GRAY'S POV

I cursed and turned around, wondering who it was that had the nerve to barge in the room to interrupt me.

In front of me was a tall dark-haired man giving me a cold glare.

He wasn't familiar to me. And I was sure none of the men who were outside drinking with their dates would have interrupted me. He also didn't look like a security guard, I mean he was wearing a suit and a long coat like an office worker.

Supporting myself on my hands, I got up and faced him, sneering.

 "Who the fuck are you?",

I wasn't about to let anyone ruin this for me.

EVE'S POV

When Mr Gray suddenly released me and fell backwards, I shot up from the bed, thinking that perhaps one of the people in the room outside had finally come to help me.

But when my eyes fell on Morgan instead, a happy cry left my Iips as I crawled over the bed and to him.

He took me in his arms and held me close as I hid my face in his chest, sobs causing my entire body to shake. I could hardly believe he was here, but he truly was, and he had appeared just in time.

My fear evaporated as he held me close, then he pulled my face from his chest and wiped my tears away gently, looking at me softly.

 "It's okay, lI'm here now, don't cry".

I nodded, his face and gentle hold on me comforting, but I couldn't stop crying yet. My body was still shaking from the panic that had overwhelmed me just seconds ago.

Morgan held me close to his chest again, and then his cold voice filled the room.

"Get out!",

Mr Gray was still in the room, looking like he wanted to fight Morgan and get on with whatever he had planned.

Morgan barely held himself back, he wanted to punch that stupid face of his until he looked like roadkill, or perhaps gouge his eyes out so he never looked at me ever again.

GRAY'S POV

I sized up to the guy and the way he was holding Eve, wondering who the hell he was. But it didn't matter. Whoever he was, he had no business interrupting my personal affairs.

Folding my hand into a fist, I rushed towards the guy, wanting to punch him and pay him back for the blow he had given me.

But the guy was deft on his feet and moved away, even with isabelle Eve in his arms.

As my body lurched forward, the guy let go of Eve and grabbed my arm, twisted it onto my back, and then pushed him onto the floor.

I tried to free myself, but the guy was too strong. Unable to beat him physically, I resorted to verbal threats.

"Who are you? If you don't let me go this moment, she is going to lose her job”,

In response, the guy lifted his foot and stepped on my twisted arm.

“l am her husband, and you can go ahead and try to fire her", he informed him.

I tried even harder, but the guy wasn't letting me go, until he was done with me.

Releasing me, he took Eve's hand and led her towards the door. My threats about how I was going to fire her the next day followed them, but none of them paid attention to me.

**************************

EVE'S POV

I was still trembling badly by the time Morgan got me home. My body and mind were still to overcome the shock of what had happened, and no matter how many soothing words Morgan said, I couldnt seem to stop shaking.

I also couldn't stop imagining what would have happened had he not appeared when he did. And each timeI did, a shudder ran through my body.

Morgan guided me to take a seat in the living room and then disappeared into the kitchen. A minute later, he returned with a glass of water. Holding it against my lips, he asked me to drink, and I obliged. I was glad he held the glass because I couldn't trust my fingers to hold anything tightly at that moment.

After I was done with the water, Morgan placed the glass on the coffee table and took a seat beside me, his gaze roaming my body.

"Did he hurt you?" he asked, feeling like he should have punched Mr Gray one more time before leaving.

He reached for my blouse to check whether the asshole had hurt me physically, but I pulled away from him and shook my head.

"He didn't", I told him, tightening my grip on his coat around my body.

I looked away from him and bit my bottom lip, as if to stop it from quivering.

MORGAN'S POV

I nodded and didn't push it, understanding that she was still frightened and feeling uneasy.

"It's okay", I told her, hating the frightened look on her face, and hating the man who had put it there.

Wrapping my arm around her shoulder, I drew her against my chest and hugged her tightly.

"He won't be able to touch you again. I'll make sure of that",

I meant every word of it. By the time I was done with the man, he would regret ever looking Eve's way.

I wished i had known before hand about the man's intentions So that I could have put an end to it before hand, before Eve found herself in such a disturbing situation. It could have saved her all this trauma.

Grinding my jaw, I lifted her chin with my fingers and stared into her eyes.

"If there is anyone giving you trouble at work, you have to tell me. Okay? Don't let anyone bully you, even if they are your senior”,

She nodded and muttered a weak 'yes'. I hoped she paid heed to my words and actually let me know if it happened. It wasn't like I could directly tell her that I had the power to fire whoever bothered her…

EVE'S POV

I nodded when I heard his soothing words, even though I had no idea how he would make sure that Mr Gray didn't bother me again. But that didn't bother me anyways, I mean I truly felt comforted in his arms and felt a sense of security, as if i somehow knew that he would keep me safe like he had promised.

Even when Mr Grays had threatened to fire me, it hadn't shaken him. Instead, he stood his ground and dared him to. It was like back at the clothing store when he had defended me from the rude assistants and manager.

The aura he had exuded in both incidents was that of someone who knew how to get his way and often did, and so far, he had proven that if he wanted to get something, he did.

I couldn't help but feel that no matter what happened, he would be able to save the day. And I realized that gradually without knowing, I was slowly getting dependent on him. I trust him to have my back much in the same way I would expect a real husband to do. It was hard not to feel that way given how gentle he was with me...

“Why were you there?", I asked, now wondering how he had shown up at the room.

When he showed up, I had been too relieved to question how he had found me. But now, I couldnt help but wonder. It was such a pleasant coincidence that he had been there.
