Asher's POV

It was already ten minutes into dinner, yet, Aurora wasn’t at the table and her maid also was nowhere to be found.

Picking my food, I kept staring at the door, hoping she would walk in the next second but she didn’t, making me apprehensive.

When I couldn't bear it anymore, I pushed my chair backwards but before I could rise, she walked in with a long face.

“I will serve myself." She said to the chef who stepped aside so she could have her way.

“Why? Aren't you hungry?" I asked, nodding at her almost empty plate.

“I had a late lunch." She replied with disinterest, sending back the rest of my words but not my gaze.

I sat across from her so I had a full view of her face, and I didn't allow my eyes to wander from her as she played with her meal.

There was no point asking since I already knew the reason why she was downcast.

It was already three days, making it eleven days more for her to clear her name.

I wished I could help ease her worries but she wouldn't let me. The few

Aurora's POVSince Palmer left my office, my thoughts had been everywhere. I could barely think straight as goose pimples broke out on every part of my body. Dinner was the last thing on my mind but I had to go. I didn't want Asher to start asking me questions that would irk me.While I nibbled on my food, I kept thinking about how I was going to overcome my problem only to push my chair backwards and in anger I left the table. I had barely walked a distance when a guard walked up to me.“What?" I gawked at him, trying to keep my voice low.Shielding his mouth with a hand, he whispered, “Palmer is here to see you." He said and immediately, my eyes lit up.Wondering what he was up to this time around, I wasted no time going to meet with him at the east wing of the palace. Standing several meters away from him, I crossed my hands on my chest.“What do you want?" I gawked at him, watching as he slowly turned around, his signature smirk playing on his lips. “Miller told me you were lo

Asher’s POVThe look on Aurora's face was horror filled but she couldn't find her tongue to speak. I have done everything I could think of to make her believe I genuinely loved her but she still believed it was all a sham.I shouldn't have told the council I would be giving them her head, I bet this was why things were getting even more complicated.Pushing my hands into my pockets, I made my way towards the window, seething with anger. Her accusatory voice kept ringing in my head. I was already losing it but somehow, I was able to hold myself back. “You…” She tried to speak but before she could complete what she intended to say, I snapped my head, “I’ve always wanted to get rid of you.” I huffed.Pressing her lips into a thin line, I watched as something flickered in her eyes. Maybe anger, surprise or shock. She provoked me first so I decided to return the favor. I wanted to make her act irrationally and see how far she could go with the act. But now, seeing the way she had reac

Aurora’s POVThe days seemed to drag on and now finally, I had three days more to prove my innocence. Seventy two hours to prove my innocence, or I would be executed like they all wanted.Everything I could think of doing, I have done but still, the evidence was glaring, countering all of my efforts. After my fallout with Asher the previous week, I had kept to myself, anticipating the day he would finally kill me. Pushing my chair backwards, I slowly pulled myself up, making my way towards the window. Crossing my hands on my chest, I allowed my eyes to roam around the landmass ahead of me, thinking of nothing in particular.Raising my head slowly, my eyes fell on the gray clouds rolling into the horizon as my mind raced with different thoughts but my heart was steady.I refused to give in to fear. Just maybe I missed a point. Maybe if I had taken my first approach, I would have proved my innocence?I continued to brainstorm, hoping I would be able to find an escape route. Just

Asher’s POVThe sound of crackling fire in the fireplace of my study was the only sound that could be heard. Seated behind my table, I was poring over files and documents that were scattered round about, all in a bid to forget about Palmer’s request but it was to no avail. He was going to save Aurora if only I gave him a seat in the council but it was too dangerous. Palmer wasn't someone to operate in the council, he was a crook and in no time, he would show his real colors. He was bold enough to tell me he wanted a seat in the council in exchange for Aurora's life.It could only mean one thing; he has an ulterior motive and to get his hand on it, he had to be a member of the council.Falling back on my seat, I let out a low sigh and as if on a cue, the door creaked open and Silva stepped in. “Postpone the meeting, I can't face anyone today." I mumbled, rubbing my forehead. “Alpha Simone is here.” He announced and immediately, I sat up.For a moment, I thought I had misheard him b

Aurora’s POVAll of a sudden, the lights which went off flickered on and the figure standing right beside the door was no other than Asher. What in heaven's name was he doing here? When the door creaked open, I was expecting assassins to swoon in on me.Pushing his hands into his pockets, he arched his back and for the next few minutes that followed, no one said a word.I wasn't surprised to see him, I was just shocked since I wasn't expecting him to be anywhere around.Clearing my throat, I decided to break the silence as it was getting uncomfortable and annoying. “What are you doing here?” I scoffed, folding my hands across my chest. “I was… scared something bad will happen to you.” He said, his tone dripping with sincerity but I was unfazed. He was feigning; this I was fully convinced of. “You only have three days left…” He wanted to start rambling but I pushed my hand forward, halting him and sending his words down his throat.“And since when did you start to care?” I huffed. Reader’s POVWith a deep frown etched on her face, Miller was making her way towards Palmer’s office. When she learnt that he wasn't making any move to send Aurora away like he had promised her the last time they met, she erupted in anger. Palmer had gotten the message she sent for meeting during lunch so he was on his way to meet her when they crossed paths. Without a word, she grabbed his hand, pulling him back into his office and slamming his door shut while he looked on. Cocking his brow, he asked, “What is all this about?" “You were supposed to send her away.” She snarled, her fists clenched and eyes reddened in anger.“We agreed, Palmer. We agreed that this was the perfect time to get rid of her and while you take over her position, I will take my place next to Asher.” Palmer tossed his head to the side, a low wince escaping from his lips."You wanted to have lunch with me. Tell me, what were you planning to tell me then?” When she wouldn't answer, he snapped his fingers,

Asher’s POVA sharp pain to my head made my eyes snap open as I sat up with a sharp inhale like I was surfacing from a deep river. The room was too quiet as the morning sun filtered through the floral curtains. Looking around, I tried to piece together what had happened the previous night then I heard it. It was the sound of soft breathing by my side that I couldn’t ignore. Titling my head to the side, I saw Aurora, curled up in the chair next to the bed, her mouth was slightly open and she was snoring lightly. Her little arms were wrapped around herself like she was holding something dear to her heart. Her hair which was all over her face was a tangled mess and her dress was soaked with Silva’s blood, she didn’t bother cleaning up after the traumatic night she had undergone. My chest, which had been tightened for a few weeks, was now light. I could breathe freely just like everyone else. My relief and joy knew no bounds. The curse which I had been trying to deal with for years

Aurora’s POVLooking over my shoulders, I couldn’t breathe.I was expecting to see Silva, towering above me and Asher with a triumphant look on his face but he was there, lying lifeless on the ground just like Asher who had collapsed a while ago. What happened?A million and one questions were making rounds in my head but there was no one to answer them. One second, Asher was standing, pulling me away from Silva's corpse and then examining me with a sense of urgency but the next minute his legs gave out. He dropped to the ground with a thud that made my heart fall right into my stomach. “Asher?” I whispered, leaning close. I was waiting for him to snap his eyes open and tell me it was a joke to scare me. I wouldn’t be mad, I just wanted him to snap his eyes open and put an end to this. But still, he didn’t respond. His eyes were closed. There was no blood, no wounds I could see but he wasn’t moving. He just lay there, motionless. Unable to hold back anymore, I mustered the last st

Aurora's POVIt happened so fast. Just as Asher was about to lunge at me and tear me into pieces, a strong hand pulled me from outside and the next sound I heard was the door slamming shut. Breathing heavy, I stared at the closed door; my heart lunged inside of my mouth. Behind the door was Asher, he was a seething beast. I wanted to run but I couldn’t move my feet as I kept staring at the door, my lips slightly apart. “What were you doing there? Trying to get yourself killed, huh?” Elder Jared yelled, he was the one who had pulled me out of his study. “I…” I tried to speak but a hard jam on the door made me scramble to my feet at once. “Don’t be anywhere around him until the curse breaks.” He said, nodding towards the opposite side of the hall. I didn’t ask any questions, I just did as I was told. At dusk, I made my way to the garden. At least, I was safer here than being in the palace where Silva and Asher were actively after my life. The night air was cold, but I couldn’t go

Asher's POVIt had been a week since I saw Aurora or even spoke to her. Though it was necessary, it was tough trying to keep away from her just in case the curse snapped but I had to do it. I had promised not to kill her and this was the least I could do, staying away from her. During this time, I spent countless hours reviewing the documents Palmer kept bringing to my table. Seeing all these broke my heart as I wasn’t expecting Silva of all people to be plotting my downfall. We had come a long way for him to backstab me. I felt stupid because I defended him countless times only for the truth to prevail. After informing Elder Jared, my personal adviser, what I had been up to, he had suggested I made Silvia be the victim of the curse and I didn’t argue. He deserved to die and I will do that happily as long as my mate will be free from the shackles of the curse. Earlier when I left the reception room where everything had been staged, there was a victorious smirk on the side of my

Aurora's POVYet to register the shock of seeing him and Silva in the reception room, he had requested for a document. Standing there with my heart lodged in my chest, I kept staring into space, thinking of nothing in particular as my heart rammed against my chest. I was scared, Silva’s gaze was on me and it seemed like he could see through me. Folding my hands in front of me with my head bowed, I tried to leave but my legs were suddenly glued to the ground. My neck became stiff so I couldn’t raise it or twist it to the side. “I have other things to handle, why are you wasting my time?” Asher broke the silence in the room. Raising my head slowly, I managed to lock eyes with him though it was for a split second. His expression was blank and unreadable and he wasn’t even sparing me a glance.Maybe this wasn’t about Silva. Maybe this was about me?Unknowingly to me, I had been holding on to an important document that could either crash or save the Kingdom. Who knows if Palmer was

Aurora's POVIt had been more than ten minutes since I returned to my room, yet, I still remained in the middle of my room. My hands were resting lazily on my waist as I stared out of the window. This was the exact reason why I tried to avoid Palmer but I failed at it. Grabbing my head with both hands, I lowered myself, sitting on my legs and still staring into space. “Silva?" I muttered. No way!Silva is Asher’s best friend. There is no way he will try to dethrone his best friend whom he had been loyal to for years. Clenching and unclenching my fists, I tried to piece together all that I had been fed with but the more I tried, the more confused I became.I was slowly losing my mind. It was just a matter of seconds before I lost it completely.Hurrying towards the safe in the corner of my bed, quickly typed in my password and immediately, the door flipped open.Pulling out the file Palmer had given to me as a trophy, I ran my fingers around the edges for a while before emptying t

Aurora's POVIt’s been a week since the incident and I had done everything within my means to stay away from Asher and to my delight it worked.Though I haven't made any attempt to run off just yet, the agenda is in my head and when the time is right, I will leave. This time around, he wouldn't be able to catch me even by the whiskers.“Are you having your breakfast here?" Mira asked, poking her head through my door. Shaking my head sideways, I muttered, “I will eat at the dining table today." I replied, while she just nodded. To avoid Asher, I had steered clear from all places he would frequent and also, I had made sure he had no access to my room. Apart from Mira, no one else was free to get in. “Are you sure about it?" Mira asked. We were on our way to the dining room now. “Yeah! Or, were you trying to pull my legs when you said he had been skipping his meals too?" I asked, halting midway with my gaze on her. For one long week, I had remained in my room and now I wanted a ch

Asher’s POVNothing went past my notice in the palace. I saw everything from my study. The guard had helped Aurora on the horse, he was going to help her escape. There was no way I was going to sit back and watch that happen and so without wasting time, I went after them, following the opposite direction and the quickest path that led to the border. The moment the guard lost focus for a moment and Aurora was contemplating crossing over, I lunged forward and with just a slash that ruptured his artery, he was at my feet. I was raving mad so I remained in the shadows trying to soothe myself before facing her. If I confronted her this way, she was going to end up like the guard. When I finally did, she passed out right before I could confront her. At first I wanted to leave her as a form of punishment for defying my orders twice but then again, I couldn't.Rouges was on rampage and my right sense of judgement wouldn't allow me to leave without taking her along. He replied and immediately, my face was drained of all its colors. I was right when I said fooling Asher was a piece of work. Acting all cool despite knowing what his Beta did was a whole different level of…I honestly don't know what to say but it was scary. Why am I always in an unpleasant spot?Knowing Asher could sense what was going on around him with ease made cold chills run through my spine, my heart slamming furiously against my chest. It wouldn't be a surprise if he could count my raged heartbeat. “The next time you try running away, I won't be able to keep my anger in check." He pulled away from me and with his back now turned on me, he said, “Who knows if the curse is going to snap and the death you have been trying to escape from will come for you?” I gulped, wiping my sweaty palm against my go
