That night, I stayed in with Beth, eating Chinese while we watched the rest of Breaking Bad on Netflix. I somehow couldn't get Sebastian's birthday out of my mind.
"Can Jesse just marry me?" Beth said, sighing longingly.
I didn't respond with my usual smart remark as usual. Beth noticed the tenses in my attitude and decided to question it.
"Alright, what's wrong?" She asked, popping a piece of orange chicken into her mouth.
"Nothing."
"Is it about Sebastian's birthday?"
I looked at her in shock "How did you know?"
She paused the episode "I actually didn't, I just guessed."
"You know how hard it's going to be to get all of these out of my dreads?" Kai complained, as Beth tried to wash the mud out of each individual one. Sarah rolled her eyes, playing with the small hand towels In our bathroom "Well, you volunteered." "Yeah, except I didn't know the dude was going to have a deadly dog back there." "Well, it was only a German Shepard. He was so cute, too." Beth puckered her lips as she remembered the dog that would have mauled Kai, given the leash wasn't on him. Sarah looked at me "Anyway, that went much better than expected." I crossed my arms over my chest "Really?" "Yeah!"
The entire night I couldn't stop thinking about Sebastian. As Morello played drunk Twister with Sarah, making Lucas obviously jealous, I sat there, wearing my birthday hat in a deep train of thought. Beth plopped down on the couch next to me, snapping me out of my trance. "What's wrong! This is like, the best birthday ever, right?" She said over the intoxicated laughter. I nodded "It is. I just can't believe he did all of that for me. I mean, I met Benedict Cumberbatch todayandgot three pairs of designer shoes because of him. I'm still having a hard time believing it." Beth smiled "It's called caring about someone."
SEBASTIAN I missed her already. It had only been two days since Leslie left and it felt like a void was inside of me. I couldn't properly describe it, and I didn't know what the fuck was wrong with me. If she had only been gone for two days and I was like this, I couldn't imagine how I would last another two weeks. Let alone if I were to lose her for good. I shook the thought out of my head. The Board had called yet another pointless meeting that I didn't care about, to have a conference call with the Marketing Executives about new advertisement techniques. Yolanda was so dependable on everyone else it was ridiculous. She was like a fucking child. But, she got the job done in the end so it wouldn't feel r
---Scotland--- It had been three days now since my father and I arrived in Scotland, and most of it consisted of unpacking and greeting everyone we haven't seen in years. I still haven't had the chance to even see Jamie; the thought of doing so made me nervous. My father asked me if I wanted him to be with me when I did decide to meet her, but I declined. I wanted to do it by myself. My cousin Helena and I walked the small village of Glencoe, wanting some fresh air from all of the family craziness trapped inside of my Grandmother's house. Everyone was coming out for Helena's sweet sixteen, and since it would have a traditional Scottish/Celtic theme, it was going to be a mad house; my aunts and uncles have a thing for Celtic dancing music. Especially when it comes from a live band.
"Francesca never liked me. Not too surprisin', considerin' Granny Fae warned me about her when she met her." Jamie and I were walking one of the tourist trails, getting some fresh air after our crying fest. Some people were on the sides taking photos or coming back from a hike. It was quiet, soothing, and I had never seen this amount of green in a while. I didn't know whether to call Jamie 'mom' or call her by her first name. Even though it took me a couple of months to get used to calling Francesca by her first name, I was still unsure about Jamie. Jamie assured me that she would be fine with what ever I decided to call her, and to me...Mom just felt...right. Especially now, since she and I have gone through similar things. "So...when I told them I was pregnant she knew that she di
"Why didn't ya tell me you told her, Angus!?" Granny Fae stomped over to my father and tapped her foot impatiently. "I didn't tell her, it was Francesca." "Yes, yes but when were you going to tell me that she knew?" "-Knew what?" Helena asked. We all looked at her. "Francesca isn't Leslie's mum, Jamie is." Jamie rubbed her eyes and avoided Helena's shocked eyes. She pointed to me "That's why you didn't want them at the party. I'm so sorry, Leslie." I shook my head, walki
The entire next week I couldn't stop thinking about Sebastian. We had thankfully gotten rid of Samantha and Francesca's presence, but it didn't help to tame my anger and sadness. Jamie, of course, was a great way to release my tension. Her, my father, Bruce and I went on a long drive through the Scottish landscape most of the next week, making pit stops along the way. We then went to one beach and walked on the shores the day before we were set to leave. It was a very therapeutic experience, and seeing Jamie and my father so close felt right for me. The day that we were set to leave, we said our good byes to everyone. Saying goodbye to Jamie was the hardest. She gave a bag of dark chocolate shortbread for the plane ride. "And just remember, if you ever...want a break from life, or j
"I can't believe we did this," I said.Sebastian looked at me, his hair ruffled every which way into a messy brown mop "I can't either. I really can't."I sat up on my elbow "Do you feel bad? I mean, like...just-""-Leslie, I've made a lot of decisions that I didn't completely think through first. And, I've regretted almost all of them after wards. but this...this isn't one of them."Damn this man and his way with words.I relaxed my head on his shoulder and placed my hand on his chest, feeling the slight beating of his heart on my palm. We were both warm, and slightly sweaty, but it didn't matter to me.I had thought of sex after w
