NINA

It was late in the evening when the doorbell rang. I flinched, still spooked from earlier. My heart pounded as I hesitated, then slowly made my way to the door, pressing my eye to the peephole. A man stood on the other side, holding a brown bag.

"Who is it?" I asked, my voice steady despite the unease in my chest.

"Miss, Boss sent me to deliver your dinner."

As if on cue, my phone buzzed. I glanced down to see a text from Lachlan.

Lachlan: I sent you dinner. Eat and rest.

Before leaving, he’d told me something had come up, that he couldn’t stay. I had swallowed my disappointment and watched him leave as he had kissed my forehead and left. But not without letting me know that he was leaving two of his men behind so I’d still feel safe in his absence. And as much I appreciated his thought, I still felt this strange hollow ache inside me with him gone that I’d never felt before.

It was like in just a few days he had made a space for himself in my life and I was leaning too hard int

It was dangerous. But I couldn’t stop. The sharp vibration of my phone cut through my thoughts. My pulse stuttered when I saw the name.Jeremiah. The last time we spoke, there was disappointment and anger in his voice. Something that only fueled mine, because not only I failed him but also I failed her. She was hurt and in pain because of me. And I couldn’t stay close to her any longer without apologizing and kissing every inch of her to show her how sorry I was that she got hurt.I answered, and immediately his rough voice came through my bluetooth. But I didn’t get to enjoy it much as his words registered with the urgency in them.“L

NINAMy leg bounced as I sat in the backseat while a driver-Lachlan sent- drove me to wherever I had agreed to meet him. To play our game.I didn’t know what came over me that I refused a quiet dinner at home, because according to him I needed rest, and instead I asked him if he was serious about his text regarding our game of chase. And then told him that I wanted that instead of a dinner date. When I’d woken up in the morning, there was an unmistakable scent of bleach in the air and this time I was sure someone was in my apartment. But when I’d opened the apartment door Lachlan’s bodyguards were still there, so that left me more paranoid and scared than before. And with my money gone, that note from the loan shark and everything going wrong in my life Lachlan felt like the only safe option. As if he was aware of my thoughts, my phone rang with his call. “Where are you?” He asked as I answered.“I don’t know... You didn’t tell me where I was coming to meet you.”“Are you ready?” “A

My head throbbed, my body a twisted coil of aches and bruises. And the air around me was thick with something pungent—coppery, metallic, the scent of rusted iron and dried blood.Darkness pressed in around me, thick and suffocating. My fingers twitched against the floor, searching for something, anything, to anchor me. But all I found was the sharp bite of chains wrapped around my wrist and ankle.Panic tore through me.No. No, no, no.I tugged, yanking hard, but the metal didn’t budge. It only cut deeper, biting into my skin. My breath shuddered out, my heart raced in my chest.Think. Think. Where am I? What happened? The last thing I remember—The park. The woods. The chase. NINAThe first thing I noticed was the warmth, a soft golden glow filtering through the curtains. The room smelled of fresh linen and chamomile, a deceptive kind of peace that didn’t match the unease tightening my chest. The walls were painted in muted yellow and cream, the kind of colors meant to soothe. But nothing about this moment felt soothing. My body ached, my limbs heavy as if I had been asleep for too long. My throat burned, dry and raw, and when I shifted under the blanket, the rustling of fabric sounded too loud in the quiet space. A voice broke through the silence, startling me. “Oh, you’re awake.”I sat up with a jerk and erything come back to me at once as I stared at an old woman standing near the windows. My heart raced with the memories and once again panic gripped me.But the old woman seemed unfazed of the turmoil inside me as she walked to the bed where I was sitting, clutching the blanket against my torso— my very naked torso. NINAMy hands trembled as I stared at my reflection in the mirror. The ivory dress clung to me like a shroud, mocking me with its delicate lace and intricate embroidery. The four women had worked tirelessly, perfecting me for a wedding I had no part in planning and didn’t want. Lachlan hadn’t come and I was starting to wonder if I’ll only see him at the alter. Just then the bedroom door was pushed open, and Lachlan stepped inside. “Leave.” He ordered, waving at the girls who were packing their things. They all filed out of the room, leaving me alone with him: my soon to be husband. His green eyes took me in and I felt myself freezing for his perusal. He said, “You look beautiful, kotyonok.”“What does it mean?”“Little kitten.”I nodded. Of course, he didn’t have to speak in Italian anymore. It was only to keep me unaware of his original identity. And once again I was reminded of his betrayal. Lachlan had done this. It was all his doing.Tears burned the back of my eyes and I turn

NINAAs we walked out of the bedroom, Lachlan slid my hand in the crook of his arm and led me through the dimly lit corridor. The house was silent, but it pulsed with wealth—cold, suffocating, and undeniable. The floors were polished marble, smooth and gleaming under the soft glow of wall sconces. My curious eyes looked around as I tried to focus on anything but what was about to happen. I stared at the large framed pictures that lined the corridor, their glass surfaces catching the light as we passed. They were portraits of people but Lachlan didn’t give me a chance to study them as he strode with wide footsteps. But there were other frames too, that were covered with black cloth, shrouding whatever lay beneath. A strange unease curled in my stomach at the sight of them. When we reached the grand staircase, its wide steps covered in plush red carpeting muted the sound of our footsteps. The iron railing was sleek and curved, intricate designs twisting through its frame. And as we desc

NINAThe priest said, “As the wedding is to be completed by the old Bratva tradition, this union will be sealed not just with vows, but with blood. For blood binds stronger than words, making this marriage unbreakable.”I watched as Jeremiah picked the dagger and without breaking eye contact cut a deep gash on his palm. My eyes widened as blood pooled in his palm. I stood there, breathing hard, as he held the dagger out to me. I couldn’t move, the sight of his blood did something to me even when he seemed unfazed. When I didn’t take the dagger, his grey eyes flicked behind me and a hand came from behind me to hold my palm open. Before I could even look at him, Lachlan leaned down as he said, “Hold still. It won’t hurt much.” I closed my eyes as he took the dagger from Jeremiah and made a shallow cut on my palm. Unlike Jeremiah there was only a few drops of blood that surfaced on my palm. “By blood, you are bound. By pain, you are tied. There is no escape from this union,” The pr

NINAI stood there, shaking, in Lachlan’s arms as he held me. From the corners of my eyes, I saw Jeremiah unbuttoning his jacket with slow, deliberate movements, peeling it away to reveal a black shirt underneath. A shiver crawled down my spine when I realized he was going to really give it to me.As if sensing my dread, Lachlan’s arm tightened around me. My breath hitched as he pulled me against him, his grip firm but not bruising. My body trembled in his hold, I couldn’t help it, I was scared. Every cell of my body was screaming to run, to fight. And I did try to get away. I struggled against his hold, but Lachlan didn’t let go. “Don’t do this,” I whispered, my voice cracking as I gave into my fear. I didn’t want the pain. “Please, stop him.” Something told me that only he could.“Hush.” Lachlan’s green eyes met mine. “It'll be over in a minute.”I wondered if I should change my decision and submit. It was just one act of submission, to kneel and kiss his shoes. But my pride shook

LACHLAN I didn’t know how many drinks I have had. At least it had stopped hurting at some point and now all I was filled with was this rage that needed an outlet, or someone to blow it out a breath at a time. I tried the easy method, I went to her bedroom. But I found her sleeping, peacefully, or maybe once again she was lost in another of her nightmares. But I saw her wet hair and the jar of ointment on the bedside table and I guessed that Jeremiah, for once, had taken responsibility and done the aftercare like she needed. At least I hoped that it was him.I hovered near her bed for a while, and then tugged the covers down and glared at the marks that I revealed. Fucking Jeremiah. Fucking arsehole, for not only doing this to her but also in front of them all. He hurt her. He humiliated her. Degraded her in front of everyone and I was okay with it. He wanted to take it out on her. He wanted a sense of satisfaction for the pain he went through. He wanted an outlet and he got one i

JEREMIAH When I finally put her down on the tiled floor of the bathroom, she stumbled but caught herself on the sink and then she glared at me. “Get out.” I looked down at her. My suit jacket had slipped off her shoulders, and she stood there… Naked and vulnerable. Looking too small. When I didn’t move, she grabbed the first thing she could get her hand on and threw it at me. A toothbrush. I let it hit me in the chest, before it dropped down on the floor. I took a step toward her and grabbed her arms. “You either let me do this, or you sit here all night crying like a broken thing.” “Why do you even care?" She gritted out, trying to pick up the bottle of hair oil next to hit me with. I grabbed her wrist. "I don't. I am making sure, you don't die before you fulfil your side of the agreement." Her eyes spat daggers at me even as tears pooled in them and fell down her cheeks in rivulets. "Go to hell!" She cursed, hate written all over her face. I grabbed her chin and forced her

JEREMIAH The silence in the car was thick— like blood drying on skin, like ash after fire. She hadn’t said a single word since we left the club. And for the first time I wasn’t too comfortable with this silence. I’ve always preferred it in the past. It’s predictable. Reliable. Uncomplicated. But tonight, it feels like a scream stretched thin across the leather seats. It’s suffocating like the silence in that dark cell where I was kept. She was crying. Again. The way someone cries when they were trying not to. The kind that doesn’t beg for attention. Not loud, not hysterical but just those quiet sobs that crawl under your skin and settle into your bones. And then then those quiet sobs turned into more, they begin to shake her shoulders, like something inside her was breaking with each breath.I fucking hate it.And I didn't understand why. But hearing her muffled cries had my jaw locked. And my mind? It felt like a fucking battlefield.I should feel victorious. I should feel sati

NINA“Lift her,” My husband ordered, voice like sharpened ice. “And put her on the table.”The table? My breath froze in my lungs, the blood roaring in my ears, making it impossible to hear anything else. Olezka moved toward me before I could do anything, not that I even had the strength anymore. With my skin stretched taut like any time now I will catch on fire as I burned with shame and pain. But thankfully, Lachlan was there as he lifted me and carried me with a tight expression on his face to where Jeremiah wanted me. On a padded table in the center of the room. The surface was cold, the leather felt chilling to my heated skin as I was laid bare on it. I hissed through my teeth when my aching arse, the raw flesh, came in contact with the cold surface. My thighs instinctively tried to close, a last shred of modesty screaming inside me even when I knew it doesn’t matter. But at least Kayne and Xavier were not there anymore. Jeremiah laughed. “Now you want to hide, when we can cl

NINA My hands dropped by my sides as I laid there on the spanking bench, and my eyes fell on the cuffs on either sides. But thankfully my monstrous husband didn’t cuff my hands and legs. It couldn't be kindness, I knew that. It was just his way of keeping me under control with more threats in sight. He gave me a warning though, as he caressed his palm down my spine, he said, “Don’t move. If you move, we’ll start all over again.”I should’ve been afraid. I should’ve begged. But a part of me… a small, sick part… was almost thankful for the punishment now. At least my mind will stop connecting this monster to the man that comes in my dreams. And I will stop feeling that pull I have been feeling for this monster despite myself. After this humiliating ordeal I will go back to hating him and that’s what I needed to keep my sanity intact. Because hate, unlike this spiraling confusion, was clean. Controlled. Necessary.“This isn’t just for me,” My husband said as if he was a king giving s

NINASomething was fúcking wrong with me. How could I settle in his lap and let myself get lost in the heat of his body? But damn, for being a cold, heartless monster, he sure has the body heat similar to a comforting woollen blanket in the frigid temperature. He had been conversing in Russian and the rumble of his accented voice had lulled me to a false sense of safety. And I had almost relaxed into him. Now I blinked at him as his question registered, “Are you sleeping, wife?”I stiffened. “No.” “Good. Now that everyone is here let’s begin with next part of your punishment.”Before I could respond or slid out of his lap, he stood up with his arms securely wrapped around me. My eyes went to Lachlan, and unlike before, he seemed to be at ease now like he had come to terms with whatever Jeremiah had planned.Lachlan stood without a word. LACHLANI shouldn’t be surprised. And maybe I wasn’t. But I was fûcking fuming.Jeremiah had always loved putting on a show. Voyeurism was his kink, and exhibitionism his stage to show how he was the God between the mere mortals. He showed everyone that he was the king and no one was allowed to even breathe without his permission. And I—I hated it.As much as Jeremiah loved showing off what he owned, I hated it.I hated sharing. I hated when eyes lingered on what I deemed mine. And most of all, I hated how he knew exactly what my hard limits were, where I drew the lines, and still he fucking chose to dance all over them, towed them to break my control. To test my resolve that seemed to be weakening ever since Nina had come between us.My fingers itched to grab Nina and throw her over my shoulder, to get her the fuck out of here. But I didn’t.I curbed my impulse and I sat there, jaw clenched, blood boiling in my veins, as he made her pour and serve drink to Xavier and Kayne. NINA I stared at my husband, unbelieving of what he was asking of me. He wanted me to get naked. Here?In front if everyone? My gaze swung to Lachlan, but his eyes were straring daggers at Jeremiah. “Kakogo cherta ty delayesh?” He growled, his hands curling into fists. [What the hell are you doing?]Jeremiah’s cold greys focused on Lachlan and his response felt like a sharp bite of a dagger. Even when I didn’t understand a word of their conversation, I felt like something deeper under the surface was happening.“Ne zabud’, ona moya tak zhe, kak I tvoya. NINA Jeremiah moved ahead, his steps confident as he led us toward a private booth carved into a shadowed alcove. I noticed how the people stopped, moved out of his way and stared at him. Men nodded with deference. Women smiled at him, their eyes hopeful for his attention. His scars didn't deter them but instead they seemed to want him more. Unlike the way hesitation and fear that sparked in their eyes when they looked at Jeremiah though, they nodded and smiled at Lachlan. A few of them even stepped forward to shake hands with him and exchanged pleasantries. And, I realised even when in appearance Jeremiah was golden and bright, Lachlan was people’s favorite it seemed, more approachable and less dangerous. And then there was me. Men looked at me with curiosity and women stared at me with a frown and tight lips, almost unwelcoming.I didn’t belong here, a voice whispered in my head, giving breath to the fear and insecurities burning inside me. I didn’t know what would happen next.
