Heather POV
As Jacob started to pace, I thought it would be a good idea to head back over to Dawn and go for a swim since that was what we came here for in the first place. I had taken two steps away from the tree when I heard Jacob say, “Stop right there. Don’t move. We are not done. We have one more thing to talk about.” I stepped a little farther away from the tree so that at least he wouldn’t be able to cage me in against it again. He approached and stopped about a foot away in front of me. Even with him standing at that distance, I still had to tilt my head back to look into his eyes because of our height difference.
“No, I think we’re good,” I replied.
“You never told me why your cheeks were red.”
“Sun burn. I forgot to put sunscreen on them.”
“Is that so, then why are they getting redder by the minute while we are standing in the shade?”
“Holes in the ozone layer. It has been causing lots of problems.”
“Heather are you trying to be a smart ass?”
“No. All my brains are in my head, and there are none in my ass.”
I attempted to take a few more steps away from Jacob, and again, he moved a hell of a lot faster than I was expecting. He picked me up by my hips, placed my back against the tree from earlier, and slid his hands down my thighs, pulling my legs up so that they encircled his waist. I placed my hands on his shoulder for balance and looked at where our chests were pressed together.
“Look at me, Heather.” I felt his breath feather across my neck just below my ear, causing shivers to go down my spine. I shook my head no. “I can’t. You need to put me down, Jacob. You shouldn’t be holding me this way."
I heard a low rumble come from Jacob’s chest. “Look at me now, Heather. I need you to look at me while I explain something to you.” I raised my eyes to meet Jacob’s.
“I need you to know...” He started to explain. “This is one of the many ways I have dreamt of holding you over the past few months. I know that I shouldn’t, but I do. I thought that I could just let you leave tomorrow and not say anything, but after what happened out on the beach, I couldn’t. When you took off that t-shirt and I realized that all those other guys were getting the opportunity to see your gorgeous curves, I lost it. I didn’t want to share. I know this isn’t fair to you. I’m trying my hardest to use common sense right now. I just want to know if you can make me a promise. If I have not found my mate by the time you turn eighteen and you don’t find yours right away, will you come back here to see if you and I are?”
The whole time that he was talking, he had been moving one hand back and forth across the outside of my thigh and the other one was sitting just under the hem of my shirt at the top of my bikini bottoms doing little circles on my skin with his thumb. These movements have caused me to be a little distracted. Did I hear him, right? Jacob wants me and is hoping that I will end up being his mate.
“You are going to have to stop moving your hands if you want me to be able to pay attention to what you’re saying. Did you just say that you want to find out if I’m your mate, if neither one of us has one, when I turn eighteen?”
“Yes, that is what I’m asking.”
“You’re right. That isn’t fair to either one of us. You can’t ask me not to date other guys. That would mean going to all school activities, like dances, for the next four years, my entire high school career, alone. I know you haven’t done that for the last three years and I don’t expect you to for your last. I will agree that if neither of us is involved with anybody when I turn eighteen, I will meet up with you to see what happens. There is nothing saying that we can’t have some light fun if we’re both single when I come back to visit.”
“Mmmm, good. Can we seal the deal with a kiss? You know some of that light fun you just mentioned.”
Staring into Jacob’s eyes, I slowly nodded my head yes. Before I had even been able to finish the first nod, Jacob’s lips were on mine. His lips were so soft and gentle. He seemed to be trying to let all the emotions that he had been holding these last few months flow through this one kiss. Everything felt so right, like this is where I was supposed to be, but at the same time, so wrong. Jacob pulled away and leaned his forehead against mine as we both panted, trying to catch our breath. “WOW!” That was all I could think to say.
“I would most definitely have to agree to that,” Jacob chuckled.
He slowly let me slide down his body until my feet touched the ground. He held on to me for a bit while I made sure my legs were going to hold me.
“Go find Dawn. I’ll be back over there soon. I just need a few minutes to calm down.”
He must have noticed the confused look on my face because he pointed down between us. That’s when I saw what he meant by calming down. He leaned down and whispered “I made it into the water last time with most people, not noticing enough to be sure of what they were seeing. I won’t make it this time.” As I turned to leave, he said one last thing. “Please keep the t-shirt on, for my sanity. I really don’t want to share those curves.” I couldn’t help but giggle as I walked back towards the beach.
That's one way to start a going away party. Do you think Jacob should have said anything with Heather leaving to live with her Grandmother? Let me know your thoughts about the story or my writing style. Thank you.
Heather POV My thoughts were running a mile a minute through my brain. What the hell had just happened? What the hell did I just agree to? Did I just have a mini make-out session with Jacob, my best friend’s brother, with my back against a tree and my legs wrapped around his waist? This is not good. How am I going to look at Dawn? When I got back to my towel, both Zane and Ben gave me questioning looks and walked away. I sat down and put my head back on my knees trying to hide from Dawn. “Did you enjoy yourself? How many other times have you made out with my brother?” Keeping my head down, I answered “That was the first time. The only other thing I can say is WOW.” I hear chuckling coming from beside me, to pick my head up in time to see Dawn break out into a full fledge belly laugh complete with rolling around on the ground. “Will you stop that? People are staring at us.” “Girl, they were already staring after Jacob picked you up and hightailed into the woods with you.” “I jus
Zane POV I followed Dawn out of Jacob’s room and down the hall. I thought that she was going to stop at her room, but she headed down the stairs. She walked into the kitchen, opened the fridge and pulled out a bottle of water. “Want one?” she asked, holding up the water. “No, I’m good thanks.” Leaning on the door frame, I watched Dawn walk towards the back. She stopped and looked over her shoulder. “I’m going to go sit outside for a bit. Are you coming or heading home?” “I’ll sit for a bit.” I followed her outside. I lowered myself onto one of the lounge chairs next to the one Dawn had sat in. “Well I must say that was an interesting day. What’s your take on it?” I asked her. “I really don’t know. I think I’m still processing it all. Did Jacob ever tell you guys what he said to her?” “You mean they talked. I didn’t think he had time to do that, you know, with his tongue stuck down her throat.” “Yes they talked you ass.” Dawn said as she smacked me on the shoulder. “He told her t
The next morning Heather POV “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s get this show on the road.” I let out a long groan that sent pain shooting through my brain and buried my head under my pillow as Dawn barged into my room screaming about road shows and opening the curtains. If I had the energy, I’d throw the extra pillow at her. “Go away” is all I can manage to get out before the blankets are pulled off me and someone is forcing me to sit up. “Come on let’s get into the shower. That should help a little, maybe.” The next thing I know, I’m hit with a blast of cold water, my eyes spring open and Dawn is walking out the door telling me I have fifteen minutes to shower, get dressed and get down to breakfast or she’s coming back and I won’t like the consequences. I realize that I’m still in my bathing suit and t-shirt from yesterday, I strip them off and leave them on the bottom of the shower while I finish washing. I step out of the shower, dry off, and head back to my room to get dress
Heather POV Before I even get to the kitchen, I catch a whiff of bacon, waffles and the glazed berries that have been made for breakfast. I’m starting to think they’re trying to convince me to stay by bribing me with my favourite foods. So not fair. I made my way over to the table and sat down at my usual spot at the same end of the table as Luna Rene, across from Dawn. Luna Rene starts to say something but is cut off by a very loud entrance of the guys as they race to the table. Zane, who is still not recovering from last night, makes it to the table first. He takes the chair beside Dawn at the other end of the table where Alpha Sean is sitting. We all look at him funny, since that is the chair that Jacob normally uses. Zane looks at us all, shrugs his shoulders and says “What? He lost. It just pushes him to do better next time.” Jacob made his way over to the seat beside me and glared at Zane. “Well if someone had been able to get himself into his bed on his own last night, maybe h
Luna Rene POV I watched Jacob run off across the street towards Zane, probably wanting to back up to deal with the gang of girls that he needed to break up. “So, he’s looking for advice about women, is he?” My husband pulls me closer and leans his forehead against mine. “Yeah, he was wondering if there was a way he would be able to tell if someone was his mate before they both turn eighteen.” I lean back and look at the group of kids that are gathered in front of the house and ask “You’re thinking Heather, right?” Sean turns around, steps up on to the step I’m on and puts his arm round me and pulls me into his side and says, “Yeah, I think so. I’ve been noticing little things that he seems to do differently around her and how he watches her.” “Well, it might be a good thing that she is moving in with Lyla. It will give them time apart until she turns eighteen. Your daughter, on the other hand, will still be here, and if what I saw at breakfast keeps going. It will get interesting
Heather POV Most of the car ride so far had been listening to Dawn and Zane bicker about anything they could think of. They had always done things like this before but never to this extent. It was like they were trying to get the other so pissed off that they would never speak to them again. I guess Jacob had finally had enough after about an hour and a half, because he told Zane to pull over at the next picnic area. I think he just wanted to get out of the vehicle before he beat the crap out of Zane. Luna Rene had packed the group of us a lunch since there were very few places to stop for food along our route. Both packs, the Blue Ridge Pack and the Twin Moon Pack, were located in fairly heavily forested, isolated areas of northern Ontario. There are not many cities, towns or even villages up here and the ones that are here have a lot of space between them. It can be a problem sometimes, but for the most part, us wolves, we like it this way. It gives us the space that we need to ru
Jacob POV While we wait for the girls to come back from the washroom, Zane and I get a table set up for lunch. I lay the table cloth that my Mom packed out across the table thinking this was a good time to ask. “Hey man, what the hell has gotten into you? Before we left, you couldn’t take your eyes off my sister. Now it sounds as if all you want to do is piss her off. The two of you haven’t stopped bickering since we left?” “I know, but it’s safer than the other thoughts that I’m trying not to let go through my head.” “What happened? You were fine all day out at the lake, for what I can remember. There was none of these lost, googly eye, confused looks going on. Normally I wouldn’t ask, but man, you are off your game today and it is my sister. ” “She tripped on the leg of the chair.” “You are going to need to use a few more words than that.” “What do I normally do when Dawn trips over her feet?” “You and/or I either watch her go down and laugh at her or grab hold of her so she
Heather POV I was around 4:30pm when we finally arrived at my Grandmother’s. The rest of the ride had been bicker free. I had called her when we were about ten minutes away, so when we arrived, Alpha Shane, Luna Mona and their twin boys, Reed and Lucas, were there to greet us. I know I’m short compared to most female wolves, and with Jacob and Zane being a foot taller than me, I thought I had gotten used to feeling small, but Alpha Shane makes me feel tiny. The man stands at least 6’7”, and his shoulders are as wide as I am tall. Ok, I could be exaggerating, but that’s what it looks like from my point of view. Looking at his sons, they are well on their way to matching their father’s size. They are both already the same size as Jacob and Zane and they are only 15 years old. If this is the size that the males around here are, I’m going to be spending most of my time trying not to get stepped on. Even Luna Mona is close to 6’ tall. While the guys unload my stuff and take it to the roo
Heather POV The next day, Dr. Beal called me with the results of my visit. It looks like I’m going to be a Mom. I was nervous all last night and this morning. I was able to hold off the morning sickness until after Reed and Lucas left the room. I know they could pick up on my nervousness, so I’m not going to be able to keep it from them for too long. That is why I’m now pacing in front of the fireplace waiting for them to come back for the evening. I know a lot of people nowadays are doing cute little things to tell their partners that they’re pregnant, so I’ve been trying to think of a way to do it without having to do massive planning. I’m so lost in my thoughts that I jump when the door flies open and Reed and Lucas storm in. Reed walks right up to me, grabs my shoulders and spins me to face him. “Heather, what is going on? Your agitation has been driving the two of us crazy. Tell us what is going on.” Taking a deep breath, I stared at these two large gorgeous men. “OK, sit down.
Heather POV It has been a month since Reed, Lucas and I marked each other. The guys have graduated, and we have moved back to Twin Moon. The original plan was for the three of us to start learning the day-to-day operations of running the pack. Fine-tuning our knowledge, you could call it. Unfortunately, with Meg and April still missing, that has been put on hold. We are still waiting to hear from everyone overseas if there is any word about Meg. The visions have been happening more often but are not giving us any more information. April has been keeping in touch, but still won't come home or tell us what she is doing or who she is with. Reed and Lucas are planning on joining Mac and Quinn next week in the search. We need to get the two girls home. We have started doing some remodelling on a couple of the rooms on the second floor of the residential building. We are designing them into a small apartment for Mona and Shane. Mona insists that the three of us move into the Alpha apartme
Heather POV I looked down at my hands where they were resting on the guys’ hands. I moved my gaze up my arm and looked at both Reed and Lucas’ marks on their necks. It all seemed to be glowing. “That has got to be the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” Rene says. “I think there is much for you and your mates to learn about... this,” Grandma says as she waves her finger around pointing at the three of us. “Yes, I say that they do,” Mona says, looking at us in wonder. “Not today, though Mom,” Reed says. “Today we just want to enjoy being together just like any other newly mated and marked wolves would. OK?” Lucas adds. Mona looks at her boys with so much love it sometimes hurts to see it and remember that it is the same way that my Mom used to look at me. “We are not going to even worry about it until you two have graduated and the three of you have moved back to Twin Moon.” She then moves her gaze to me and I see that same love there for me. “I want my daughter to have time t
Heather POV I woke up a few times to make love with my mates, and I did exactly what Lucas once told me that their mate would be able to do. I made love with one of them, then rolled across the bed to the other. I hate to say, even though we had been spending weekends together I was still worried about what they were going to think. But now there are no worries. The bond that I had formed with Reed and Lucas had always been strong and scary when we were younger. Being able to pick up on some of their feelings even when I shouldn’t have been able to, felt wrong, but now it’s even stronger than before and nowhere near half as scary if that makes any sense. The strength of it now... wow. The love that I feel pouring off of these two is something else. The only other love that was this strong was my parents. I spent a lazy morning in bed with my mates showing me many ways that they love me, then a long shower where they showed me some more. It was almost noon when we made our way up to
Lucas POV I woke to the sun shining through the small gap that was in the curtains. It was casting a glow across the face of the beautiful woman who was using my bicep as a pillow. I can see Reed’s mark because of the way that she is sleeping, but I know that mine, the mirror image, is just as prominent on her other side. I’ve never heard of markings like the ones we have. They are very unusual and beautiful. I have heard about when witches mark their partners, but it’s still different from this from what I understand. So I don’t know if it’s because Reed and I are twins. I don’t know if a double-mate mark is different from a single-mate mark. But I think that it has something to do with the fact that Heather is the first of her kind. This would also explain why Reed’s and mine are so different from others we’ve seen. I keep thinking of all the things that led us to this point. Heather has been through hell ever since she met me and Reed. The stuff with Keegan and finding out about h
Possible Trauma Triggers Keegan POV Carter had ended up having to sedate Sophie. The bastard had taken over her body and tried to convince the guards to open the door, then went on to demand it. Then, when begging and pleading to let her go and see her daughter didn’t work, he tried to use Sophie’s wolf’s claw to slit her wrist. The guard that had been assigned to watch her acted quickly, using the tranquillizer gun and sedating her before any real damage was done. I had a feeling that this bastard would consider Sophie expendable. After that, Carter decided that it was best to just sedate us in case next time the guard wasn’t able to react as quickly. I rolled over, reaching for my phone that I had set on the stool that was beside the bed. I feel the drowsiness of the drugs that are still in my system and a wave of dizziness hits me as I sit up. Glancing at the phone, I see it’s just before three in the morning. I was just about to stand when I was hit with an immense pain that sho
Heather POV Reed, Lucas and I started towards the cabin. I slowed, allowing the guys to get a little ahead of me. I wanted to talk to them about what they had been discussing earlier. It may not be common nowadays, but I do know that in our culture it is more accepted. I’m thinking that I would like to take Mona’s approach. If it happens, it happens. Reed and Lucas turn as they reach the door, noticing that I wasn’t right behind them. “Is everything OK M’eudail?” Reed asks before opening the door and holding it for me. I walked in and stood in the middle of the room. “Do you not want to do this? Because we will wait if that is what you want, Mo leannan.” Lucas adds. I smiled at them and shook my head. “No, I don’t want to wait.” They both walked towards me, taking my hands and holding them to their chests. “I heard what the two of you were talking about earlier in the clearing just after I shifted. I don’t want to worry about protection either. “Are you sure M’eudail?” Reed asks, k
Heather POV Slowly the pain reseeded and I could hear Indigo calling me. ‘Heather it’s over.’ I could smell... fire, wood smoke. It reminded me of the campfires that I used to have with my family where I would sit and drink mint hot chocolate. ‘Mates’ Indigo said quietly. ‘Was that the other scent I was picking up on from the guys?’ I asked her. ‘Yes, our mates’ scents. They smell...’ ‘Like home.’ I finished for her. I could feel tingles spreading from behind Indigo’s ear as Lucas sat with her head in his lap. “If Heather agrees, I don't want to worry about protection.” He suddenly says. I feel tingles along my neck as Reed runs his fingers through Indigo’s fur. “Are you sure?” He asks. “Because I was thinking the same thing.” I was just about to ask Indigo what she thought when she suddenly jumped up. I watched through Indigo’s eyes as Reed and Lucas stood and walked towards us. “Are you ready for a run, Beautiful, because we have two very impatient wolves who want to be with y
Reed POV While Mom and the rest of the women went to talk to Heather, Lucas and I stayed with Dad, Gavin, and Alpha Sean. I was nervous, I didn’t know if Heather’s shift was going to be the same as ours or different because of being a hybrid. I was pacing along the edge of the path that led to the clearing we were going to later. Then the question that Lucas asked about us being ready to be parents, was going through my mind too. Was I ready at twenty to be a Dad? Was Heather ready to be a Mom at eighteen? What happens if she’s not ready, and we forget, are we going to spend the rest of our lives together with her resenting us? I felt a hand land on my shoulder and I looked to see Dad staring at me with worry. “What is going around in that head of yours, you look like you’re about to spill your guts, and I don’t mean verbally.” I walked over and sat on the log at the side of the path. Letting out an exhausted sigh, I confided in Dad. “I'm scared that something is going to go wrong.”
