JADEN

"What?" I said, glaring at Rhea who blinked at me, pokerfaced.

"I said, where--"

"I get it. I heard you. I thought I asked you to stay in the basement"

"I don't exactly have a phone to call you. I had to come up here myself"

Klaus snorted in amusement.

"Good gracious, you really are something else, lady" he commented and she gave him a smile.

"Why? Thank you" she responded. Her gaze moved over to me.

"Please, can you get me tampons?"

The nerve of this woman.

"I am not your boyfriend, Rhea," I stressed.

She let out a nervous chuckle.

"My apologies, Mr Blackwood. Can you please send either your Beta, Delta or Gamma to the drug store to get me some tampons?"

Klaus glared at her and Trisha was already fuming. Darryl had an amused smile on his lips. If I asked him to get her a tampon, he wouldn't complain. But, Trisha was a woman, she would know exactly what type to get. I didn't want to do this, but I couldn't say no to Rhea.

"Trisha," I said and she stiffened, turning to look at me with a look of betrayal in her eyes.

"Get her some tampons," I said and she rose to her feet. She dared not complain.

"Yes, alpha. I'll be back, shortly," she said and left the sitting room.

Once she'd left, Rhea dropped down on the couch, her gaze fleeting from Darryl to me.

"Since I'll be staying here, shouldn't you introduce me to your people?" She said, looking me in the eyes.

Darryl furrowed his brows when he saw this.

"Jaden, what's going on? This woman has you wrapped around her little finger and you're not upset about it," He communicated mentally.

"Curiosity killed the cat, Darryl"

"I'm a wolf, Jaden. I'm concerned about the situation," Darryl continued.

"Why aren't you saying anything? What's with the intense look on your face?" Rhea questioned.

"Introduce yourself, boys," I said through the mindlink and a look of surprise crossed Klaus' features.

"My name is Klaus and I'm Jaden's Beta," he said to Rhea who nodded slowly.

"That makes a lot of sense now," she commented.

"What's your name, Mr Cute?" She probed and I felt my claws start to emerge. I kept my fists clenched, ignoring the fact that my claws were digging into the skin of my palm. My wolf strongly disliked the fact that she'd given Darryl a nickname too.

"Darryl. I'm Jaden's Gamma"

"What about the moody lady that just left?" Rhea asked.

"Her name's Trisha. She's the Gamma"

"My name's Rhea Stone. It's nice to meet you guys" she said and I raised a brow.

"What?" She scowled.

"Now's the right time for you to tell us what you really are" I said.

"Oh....that," she mumbled, lowering her gaze.

"It can't be that bad" Darryl stated and she sighed.

"I'm a hybrid"

I hadn't expected that.

"What kind of hybrid?" Klaus asked, leaning back on his chair.

"A witch and werewolf mix?" She said with a grimace on her face. My frown deepened when she said that. It sounded untrue. If she was truly a werewolf, I would have sensed her wolf. Klaus and Darryl exchanged glances with me. They were probably thinking the same thing.

"Here's the thing" she stated, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

"My father was a werewolf and my mother was a witch. I have manifested the magic I inherited from my mother. But, I have never felt my wolf because I have never shifted before"

"Don't you have a pack or clan that you belong to?"

"I don't."

"Why not?" Darryl probed.

Her mood had dampened, I could tell.

"I don't want to talk about. Just drop it" she snapped. The front door opened and Trisha strode in with what I easily recognized to be her fake smile. She walked up to Rhea and handed her a bag.

"Those are the tampons you asked for. The best of the best" she said and Rhea gave her a sweet smile.

"You're such a darling. But, you really don't need to put up such a fake smile for me" she sassed, rising to her feet.

"Thanks guys. It was really lovely talking to you. I'll return to the basement, never to surface until the thirtieth of this month. Have a happy rut season. Bye"

With that she retreated towards the basement stairs.

When she was out of sight, Darryl whistled under his breath. "Damn, she's good."

"Did she just say 'have a happy rut season?' What the hell?" Klaus commented and I let out a sigh, rubbing my temples. I didn't know if she would actually keep her word and stay in the basement until it was safe for her to do so. But, I was also worried that this woman would drive me to the point of insanity.

'She is our mate. You can't deny that fact. You can't run away from reality for too long' my demon counterpart said and I rose to my feet, feeling bothered. I'd failed to protect Sheila and I was afraid it would be no different when it comes to Rhea. I was tortured by these thoughts and there was absolutely nothing I could do to ward them off. So, I went to my personal gym and began to take out my frustration on the punching bag. 'Jaden, are you alright?' Haru's voice cut through my subconscious mind. Haru was a part of my pack. She was a kitsune. A very skilled one. 'I'm alright.'

'I can feel your frustration,' she said and I exhaled sharply.

'Forget about it,' I said and blocked her and everyone else in my pack, preventing them from feeling whatever I was feeling. Despite how much I didn't want to believe it, it was true that Rhea's arrival changed everything.

It all depended on me now.

Just before I heard a knock on the door, I sensed Klaus' presence.

Letting out a sigh, I responded through the mind link. He opened the door and sauntered in, bright eyed.

"I know what you're going to say. I know you're going to tell me that it's not my problem. But, I'm worried about you, Jaden. There's something bothering you. You haven't blocked out the pack since it was established. So, tell me. I'm your Beta. You can talk to me" he coerced.

I stared at him for a moment, contemplating telling him the truth.

"You know better than anyone else, that I won't tell anyone else if you don't want me to".

I turned away from him, running my palm over my face. "Rhea is my mate"

"For real?" He said, the disbelief in his voice hard to miss. "Yeah"

"You should be happy, then. Why haven't you told her? Please, tell me you're not planning on rejecting her?"

I shook my head.

"I don't know"

"Come on, Jaden. You have been miserable. We know you're still hurting. But, the moon goddess has given you another chance. A chance to redeem yourself"

I remained silent, my gaze fixed on the wall. Klaus patted my back.

"You've got this"

...

RHEA

I paced back and forth in the basement, my mind clouded by several thoughts. I could've sworn that there was something going on with Jaden. I couldn't stop thinking about him. Earlier at the sitting room, I'd been distracted by the sight of Jaden. His hair was no longer in braids. It was in a bun with his hair cut low on the sides. I had no idea what was wrong with me. I had no idea why I felt that way. It was not something I was familiar with and that's what made it odd.

"Get a grip, Rhea!" I scolded myself. I went towards the TV, my brows creasing up into a frown when I saw a photo tucked by the side of the TV. I was curious. So, I took out the photo. It was the photo of a tall blonde with green eyes. She had a pretty smile and was standing by the shore on a beach. Written on the photo was the name 'Sheila'.

"Hmm, Sheila...." I thought aloud. I turned around with a start when the bag of tampons I'd kept on the couch fell to the ground rather violently.

I went towards it and picked it up, my eyes narrowed. I stared at the photo in my hand, again.

"Is she his Luna? How come I haven't seen her around?" I said and the pillow on the bed, flew across to the room and bounced off the wall.

"What the hell?" I breathed, taking a step backwards.

Is the basement haunted? I wondered.

"Who's there?" I said, but got no response. I remained still, waiting for something else to be thrown at me. But, nothing happened.

I let out a breath, chuckling weakly.

"It's just me. What was I thinking?" I chuckled.

I returned the photo to it's position and lowered myself on the couch. My stomach grumbled and I patted it.

"Gosh, I'm starving. I also need to shower" I sighed.

I went into the bathroom. Then, I took a shower in the bath tub. When I stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my body, I was startled by Jaden who had just stepped into the basement with what seemed to be a couple of bags of groceries and pizza. My towel slipped from my hold and slid down by a couple of inches, to reveal my full breasts. I quickly grabbed the towel and covered my chest. Still, by the look on Jayden's face, I knew the damage had been done.

I had no idea what he was going to do. I could have casted a spell or something. But, I'd been caught unawares. My heart was racing in my chest and he was so close, I could perceive his minty scent. "Jaden... could you back off now? Trust me, you don't want to kiss me because we won't be getting out of the basement until the thirtieth" I said and he blinked. Planting a hand on the wall, right beside my head, he nuzzled his face against the bare skin of the crook of my neck and let out a groan. "You smell so good." I shivered, trying not to let myself get carried away. I knew he would regret it thereafter and I didn't want that to happen. So, I kneed him in the groin. Are you going to reject me? I didn't choose to be your mate!" I hissed. He started to move towards me until he was right in front of me and despite the fact that my wolf was ranting about how gorgeous he was, I was annoyed. "If rejecting you will make things easier for us, then yes I will!" He growled and I clenched my fists, my temper flaring. "What are you going to do about it?" He demanded. It was clear that he didn't want me. Why would he? I was reminded of the horrible fact tha

JADEN It wasn't so hard to trace Rhea through her scent, especially after shifting. I had switched to invisible form in order to avoid revealing myself to a human. I wasn't like most werewolves. Since I was a demon wolf, I was larger than an average wolf. My fur was the color of the night and had a few silver stripes. My senses were several times heightened, compared to that of an average alpha and I was much faster. 'We can smell her. She's close by' Klaus said through the mindlink. I'd asked Klaus and Darryl to join me. Trisha was to look after the park while I was out. I had a feeling that Rhea had landed herself in trouble. While I strode down the alley, a couple of wolves suddenly began to run towards me. I knew they couldn't see me, but their movements made me curious. I growled when I got a whiff of their scents. I was quite familiar with those scents. They had once been a part of my father's pack. But, they had joined my brother's pack. I had the strong urge to rip the

Besides, Klaus has never attended the meeting of Alphas with the Alpha king because his pack has less than fifteen members," he explained."This d

ZADEN My Beta stood beside me with a grim look on his face. We were both standing in front of what seemed to be a packhouse. It was large for a pack with less than twenty members. There was a large gate separating the outside from the inside. I could perceive the scents of the werewolves, but they seemed to be more than twenty. Something fishy was going on there. The gate opened just before I could knock. A young Japanese woman with startling red hair stepped out. She was wearing a white T-shirt and a blue denim jumper. She was also wearing a pair of white sneakers. Her scent was definitely not that of a werewolf. I wondered if she was the woman who had caused so much ruckus already. She stared at me for a moment. Then, her gaze drifted and rested on the rest of my pack members who'd accompanied me.'Is she the witch?' I asked my Beta through the mindlink.'Certainly not, Alpha' he responded"Can I help you?" the Japanese woman finally said, a blank look on her face."I'm here

RHEA Pacing back and forth in the sitting room of Jaden's home was making me more anxious and no matter how much I tried not to think negatively, the thoughts continued to swam my mind. I didn't know where Jaden had gone to. But, whatever business he'd gone to attend to, had seemed both important and intense, judging from his statements.I didn't know a lot about Jaden, but I couldn't help but worry. Maybe, it was the mate bond making me feel like that. I sat down on the couch and stared at the TV. Still, I couldn't concentrate. My eyes widened when the door opened and Jaden walked in, his facial features expressionless. He ignored me and walked right past me. I glared at his retreating figure and let out an irritated huff. Then, I patted my cheeks and let out a sigh.'What on Earth are you doing, Rhea? Why are you trying to get his attention? JADEN Was I really going to do what she'd asked? She'd sounded so sure that I was going to show up at the dining room and have dinner with her. I wondered what motive she had in mind, especially since she was more complicated than I thought. Or maybe, she wasn't. Maybe, this was her personality. A part of me wanted to know her and the other part of me? Not so much. My stomach grumbled and I let out a sigh, pinching the bridge of my nose. 'Come on, Jaden. It's clear that you're starving. It can't be so bad to hang out with our mate. Mother Selene wouldn't have made a mistake in choosing her as our mate' Tarus stated and I leaned back on my seat, rubbing my jaw. He had a point there. 'You can't be afraid of losing her. You're no longer a weak nineteen year old werewolf. You are a demon wolf and you are more than capable of protecting your mate' Tarus added. He was right. Deep down, I wasn't scared. I'd made myself believe that I was avoiding starting a relationship with Rhea bec

Still, it didn't make a lot of sense. Her wolf had been triggered as well. There had to be some sort of explanation for what had just happened. Rhea stared at her claws, a confused look on her face. Her eyes were no longer grey. One of them was forest green and the other was a very light blue. Her eyes were beautiful. "I've always wanted to have a wolf. But, now.... I'm so confused. I have no idea what I'm doing, Jaden. What's happening to me? I don't understand..." She said and I placed a hand on her shoulder to get her to calm down. She was already panicking so much already. "You two look so alike. It's almost impossible to differentiate you two" "Almost impossible? You can differentiate us, can't you?" XAVIER No matter the angle I tried to look at it, I still couldn't understand why my mate had rejected me. Nothing seemed to be adding up. I was completely clueless. I wasn't unattractive, I knew that. Unless she had something against attractive people, it didn't make sense that she would reject me just like that. Come to think of it, she had asked for my name too. Was she harbouring a vendetta towards people bearing 'Xavier'? Or, was it my last name instead? "I wonder what's going on in your head, you look like you're suffering from a heartbreak" My sister's voice snapped me out of my train of thoughts. She placed a plate of cookies in front of me and sat down on a chair opposite me. I watched her as she picked a cookie and took a bite out of it. "Wow, you really look like you've just been rejected" she stated, looking amused. When I still didn't say anything, her smile faded. "No way. Did a girl reject you?" She breathed, her eyes wide. JAZMINE 'Who the hell does the bastard think he is?' I thought. This wasn't the first time I was having an encounter with a pervert. I had heard his thoughts as clear as day. It was an ability of mine. The annoying part was that he had claimed to be my mate and when I'd touched him to confirm it, I didn't feel a thing! His scent was weird too. Was it blocked? I couldn't tell. I hoped that we would never cross paths again, because if we did, I would make sure to embarrass him. During lunch break, my best friend and I, stood by our lockers, returning our books to their positions. "You look upset. Did you encounter another pervert?" Sage, my best friend said as she slammed her locker shut. "As a matter of fact, I did." She wrinkled her nose in disgust. "Let me guess, he kept staring at you and tried to touch you?" "Not like that. He was staring at me and then, he claimed that I was his mate.""What? The nerve of him!""He didn't say it out loud though" I said and she sighed. "

XAVIER "Will I be okay, here?" my voice cracked at the end of my statement, a lump lodging itself in my throat. "Look at me, Xavi" mum said, taking my hands in hers. Blinking back the moisture in my eyes, I turned to look at my mum, my brows creased. I was feeling emotional. This was happening a lot, lately. My emotions seemed to be heightened and so did my mood swings. "Just breathe and try to hope for the best. You'll do just fine. I believe in you. Your siblings will be here with you this time. It's going to be easier for you, I promise" mum said to me with hopeful eyes. "I love you, mum. I'll see you later" I smiled, leaning over to give her a kiss on the cheek. "Please, be alright" I heard mum say as she watched me get out of the car. I knew she was always worried about me. When our kids turned six months, Jaden and I got married on the beach during sunset. Thirteen years had passed since we got married. Jaden was still as loving as always. Our boys were a carbon copy of their father. They were also very identical. They were different in subtle ways though. Xavier had been growing up to be a well mannered, goodlooking boy. Oliver, our second son, was a little less well mannered. He was a troublemaker, most of the time. Jaden and I hoped that Xavier would continue to remain as charming as he was. We hoped that he would hold on long enough for his mate to finally locate him. In five years, he would be eighteen. He would find his mate and things would be much better and easier for him. "Mum?"
