Kyle

I’m in over my head. I think I’ve known that for a while but my latest encounter with Alpha Xavier abolished any lingering question. He’s going to have Glass Lake at any cost and he’s going to use Olivia to do it.

I thought I could manipulate him into letting me keep her as long as she gave him intel on how to exploit the pack's weaknesses. I’d get Hester to help me get answers out of her and pass them to Xavier without him ever laying eyes on her. I didn’t count on him sending one of his vile rogue lackeys to retrieve her.

All Xavier really wants is her and her pups in his possession so Kaden will hand over the pack without a fight. He was never really going to let me have her and I was a fool to believe otherwise. Now, I have no option but to take her and run. I just have to find her first.

Fucking Hester! She's more trouble than she's worth. Not once has she ever done what I asked of her. All she ever manages is to wreak havoc wherever she goes. But I was desperate to keep

Kaden “I love you, Kaden. Maybe that’s stupid of me. I’ve forgotten so much, it feels like we just met. But it’s how I feel so I won’t take it back.” My little flower’s emerald eyes shine with unshed tears, so much adoration and devotion reflected in them. But also pleading, begging me not to break her heart, and it guts me to know I deserve her fear. “I love you both,” she takes Declan’s hand, “and I’m done running. Maybe it took losing my memories to stop letting the past steal my future, to realize that none of us are who we used to be and all that matters is who we are now. Fated mates, parents to two wonderful pups, family.” I fall to my knees at her feet, wrapping arms around her waist and burying my face in her soft belly. “I love you so much, little flower. I didn’t know I was capable of loving someone this much. Thank you for accepting me, “I’ll never deserve you, but I’ll spend the rest of my life worshiping you like the goddess you are. I’ll never let anyone disrespect

Declan “Rosebud, stay in the car!” I bark the order but she’s already climbing out of the car at the sound of Kaden’s distress. “Fuck!” I growl, jumping out after her. “What happened?” She gasps, her eyes wide as she takes in the injured warrior. She’s patting Kaden down, like he might be bleeding just from standing too close to the other man. Her touch has the added benefit of calming her Alpha. But his wolf is still at the surface, letting out a rumbling growl as he pulls her into his arms and breathes in her warm apple scent. “Take her home, Beta!” Kaden uses his Alpha command, all business now. “Rogues attacked near the east border. If they managed to get that deep into the pack, they could be anywhere. It’s not safe out here.”“How the fuck did they get in? There’s no gate back there!” I question the warrior. “Our border wall is solid! We already repaired the spot where Olivia climbed over. There is no way in except through the front gate and no one sounded the alarm.”“Shit

Kaden By the time I reach the east border where the fighting occurred, the rogues have been put down by my men. Unfortunately, not before they slaughtered the elderly couple whose home sits closest to the border. The carnage is so horrific, I have to pull my shirt over my nose to cover the stench of blood in the air. “Get this cleaned up!” I command the few warriors with me. “I don't want the family to see this.” I have no idea how the rogues managed to get in but I’m pretty sure I know who sent them. More and more, I’m convinced Alpha Xavier is after my pack and he’ll stop at nothing to get it, including using his own daughter. The problem is, I have no proof and the Council would never sanction a declaration of war without it. Knowing there is nothing more I can do here, I head for my parents’ house, anxious to be with Olivia and our pups. Declan and I should be spoiling our pregnant mate, not battling rogues and burying corpses. No sooner does that thought cross my mind than t

Olivia “They’re gone.” Auntie Kat says and it takes me a minute to process what she said. They can’t be gone! That can’t be real! An agonized scream erupts from my chest when it finally sinks in that my boys are missing. I collapse in Declan’s arms, soaking his skin with my tears. He does his best to comfort me but I can feel his fear and his fury so fierce he’s vibrating with it. Kat breaks down, unable to continue, so Kaden’s dad takes over. “We followed his scent but it just vanished. We’ve already got men out looking for them, including Rhett and your uncle Dillon. We’ll find them.”But somehow, I know they won’t find them. I feel like I’m falling to pieces, crumbling from the inside out. Then suddenly I feel a jolt, like a bolt of lightning firing through every cell in my body. Sparks like fireworks fill my vision, then fizzle out and with them, everything goes dark. My eyes flutter open again and a tsunami of memories threaten to drown me. And with them, the full spectrum of

Declan Olivia stares out the window as we make our way to the east wall. She’s sitting in the front seat between Kaden and I, each of us holding one of her hands. She allows the contact but through the bond I can feel that she’s miles away. Maybe I need the comfort of her touch more than she needs mine. If it weren’t for her memories returning, we wouldn’t have the first clue where to start our search for the boys. But now, not only is she terrified for our pups, she’s been hit with the full force of her mates’ betrayals all at once. It must feel to her like it just happened yesterday. I know we’re bonded now, I know that’s forever, but even bonded mates can live separate lives if they feel they made a mistake. I squeeze her hand just a little bit tighter, relief pouring through me when she squeezes back. I couldn’t stand it if she regretted accepting me. “They’re going to be fine, rosebud. Kyle may be delusional, but he wants you to be a family. He won’t hurt them.” I slide my

Oliva Mothers always say there’s nothing they wouldn’t do for their children. I used to wonder if that was really true. I always believed I’d walk through the fires of hell for my boys. Now, I know I would, beyond a shadow of a doubt. I hate breaking my promise to Declan. I promised him I'd never run from him again and that’s exactly what I’ve done. But if there’s even the smallest chance Kyle took the twins to Crimson Moon, I have to go. Even if it means risking my own freedom. As I pull up to the front gate in my stolen SUV, fear claws at my insides but I force my face into a neutral expression. “Welcome to Crimson Moon. How can I help you today, miss . . .” The guard trails off and I realize he’s waiting for my name. “Uh, it’s Ms. Connor,” I use Declan’s surname, hoping it won’t be familiar if they were told to flag Olivia Cross. “I’m here to visit a friend.” “Name, please.” He states flatly. He’s watching my face while tapping his pen against his clipboard impatiently. Why

Olivia “Where are we going?” I ask as I rush to follow Hester down the hall, my head on a swivel, afraid Xavier or one of his men are going to pop out at any minute and drag me back to my fancy prison. When Hester came for me, I didn’t think twice about going with her. Sure, I could be jumping out of the frying pan right into the fire, but at the time, anything seemed better than being trapped in that room, just waiting for Xavier to return. I’m not sure what she wants with me, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Xavier’s plans for me aren’t good. “Quiet!” She hisses. “Do you want to get us caught?” I huff but keep moving, not having a better option at the moment. We seem to be taking a back passage, different from the way I came in, Eventually it leads to a side exit at the back of the packhouse. The moment the cold air hits my face, I skid to a stop. If my pups are in that house, I’m not leaving no matter how dangerous it is. Hester finally notices I’m not following and

Olivia “Like I said, it’s a long story.” Hester dodges my question. “Well, apparently, I’m not going anywhere soon.” A thick layer of sarcasm coats my tone. “If you’re really sorry, then you owe me an explanation. “You’re not going to like it. Not that I blame you.” She sinks into a chair and folds her hand in her lap, focusing on something far away in her mind’s eye. “Please try to remember, everything I’ve done was done out of love for a man I considered to be my hero.” “I’ll try.” I nod for her to continue, knowing what she says next is going to rock my entire world but needing to hear it anyway. “My mother was a very powerful witch. I won’t get into her story except to say she let her power make her greedy and it didn't end well for her. She got on the wrong side of an Alpha and it cost her life. It almost cost mine too. Rhett I barely make it into my truck before Kian rages to the surface, clawing at my control. My wolf wants to turn around, to go back and claim what's ours. The memory of her scent – honey and lavender tinged with fear – makes us both want to howl.“Protect. Claim. She's . . . it's bad, Rhett."I've seen bad before. Done bad things to bad people. But nothing prepares me for the sight of Brynlee – sweet, innocent Brynlee who I've known since she was a pup – lying broken in that hospital bed. Tubes everywhere. Monitors beeping. Bruises marking every visible inch of skin. Then I catch her s

Brynlee I'm not supposed to be here. That's all I can think as I stand frozen in the small coffee shop just outside pack territory. I'm supposed to be safe at home, hiding in my room like the broken thing I am. But Dr. Mitchell's voice echoes in my head – "small steps toward normalcy" – and somehow that translated into convincing Olivia to bring me here."Just a quick stop," she'd promised. "Ten minutes tops."But Olivia got pulled into an urgent phone call outside, and now here I am, alone in a coffee shop that isn't the one where Xavier found me, but might as well be. Every chime of the door sends my heart racing. Every male scent makes my skin crawl. Every—The bell chimes again and a scent hits me – wild and masculine and startlingly familiar, but somehow . . . different. Rhett. I recognize him immediately – my family's friend, my friend, kind of, once upon a time. I've known him for years, seen him at countless family gatherings. He's always been kind but distant, treating me wi

Another day of Xander's trail growing colder while my control grows weaker.I stare at the abandoned cabin that was supposed to be his latest hiding place, fighting the urge to tear the whole structure apart in frustration. The scent is old – at least two weeks – and deliberately misleading. The bastard knows how to cover his tracks, I'll give him that.My phone buzzes. Another text from Kaden with another possible sighting to check out. This one's closer to Glass Lake territory. Too close. My wolf snarls at the thought, torn between the hunt for Xander and the pull toward her.Focus. I can't think about her right now. Can't think about how her scent lingered in the air yesterday, tinged with fear and something else – something that made my wolf pace and whine. Brynlee Therapy is bullshit. That's what I keep telling myself as I sit in this too-soft chair, surrounded by crystals and dreamcatchers and all the other crap that's supposed to make this place feel "safe and nurturing." What a joke. Like any space can feel safe anymore. But I'm here, aren't I? Sitting across from Dr. Sharon Mitchell, pack therapist extraordinaire, because my family won't stop looking at me with those worried eyes. Won't stop suggesting "it might help to talk to someone." As if talking about it will somehow make it all better. As if words can erase what happened to me."How are you feeling today, Brynlee?" Dr. Mitchell's voice is exactly what you'd expect from a therapist – gentle, measured, trying so hard to be non-threatening that it becomes threatening in its own way."Fine." The word comes out automatically. It's my default response these days, even though we both know it's a lie.I thought I was fine. After I woke up, it was like all my trauma was tucked away i

Rhett The familiar scent of pine and earthy dampness greets me as I cross into Forest Trails territory. Home. Though that word feels hollow now, more obligation than comfort. Like everything else in my life lately, it’s complicated by duty and expectations I never asked for.Tracy will be waiting at the clubhouse, neutral territory for what promises to be anything but a neutral conversation. We agreed to meet here rather than the dungeon where we usually play. This isn't about scene negotiation or pleasure; this is about ending something that should have been simple but never really was. She’s already there when I arrive, perched on the edge of a leather armchair like she’s ready to spring into action. The sight of her makes my chest tight with guilt. Tracy is beautiful, willing, and uncomplicated – everything I should want. Everything I might have settled for if fate hadn't fucked with my plans."Master." The word slips from her lips automatically before she catches herself. "Rhett."

I fight the urge to toss the un-fucking-helpful computer too, knowing how satisfying it would be to watch it shatter against the wall. But it’s a loaner so I restrain myself. “Problems?” Kaden’s gigantic frame fills the doorway, casually leaning in with an amused smirk on his face. “All I’ve got is fucking problems.” I kick the leg of the desk for emphasis, and because I need an outlet for this fury threatening to consume me. “How can someone attempting such a massive coup hide so effectively? His fingerprints are everywhere, evidence of his plans basically begging to be found now that we know what we’re looking for, but Xander himself is a fucking ghost!” “We’ll find him.” He says so confidently I want to punch out a few of his pearly white teeth. “But none of this is on you. You know that, right?” I open my mouth to argue, to assure him it absolutely fucking is on me, but he’s running his damn mouth aga

Brynlee Who am I? It’s the last thing I ask myself before I fall asleep and the first thing that comes to mind the minute I wake up. Who am I now that the person I used to be no longer exists. Sweet, innocent Brynlee is gone. She died the moment Xavier cornered her in that coffee shop all those weeks ago, even if she didn’t know it yet. But when he, and then his son Xander, put their hands on me, brutalized me in unspeakable ways, there was no coming back from that. No, sweet, innocent Brynlee, the girl everyone loved, who never put a toe out of line, she burned to ash in those moments. But what’s awoken in her place is something I can’t begin to wrap my head around. Contemplating a question I can’t stop asking myself but that has no easy answer is hard. Going to sleep and never waking up would be easier. But I don't. I won’t. For them. Everything I do is for them, the people that love me. My family who would never recover from my loss. Olivia "That's the last box," I announce, setting down a container marked 'Isla's stuffed animals' in what will become the nursery of our new packhouse. The sprawling structure sits perfectly between Glass Lake and Crimson Moon territories, a physical representation of the bridges we've built between our packs.Through the window, I watch Ryan and Reegan directing the placement of outdoor furniture while Kat and Declan’s mom, Isabella, supervise the unpacking of the kitchen. Having Kaden's and Declan’s parents move in with us feels right – the pups adore their grandparents, and after everything we've faced, keeping family close has become even more important. My own parents chose to stay in their home, a decision I understand completely. Brynlee needs the familiar comfort of those walls right now, needs the safety of the place she's known her whole life while she heals. The haunted look in my sister's eyes is slowly fading, but her recovery will take time. Time, and probably vengeance
