IZZY POV
The plane touched down and I unbuckled my belt with a sigh. Troi uncurled herself from the floor around my ankles and stretched. I looked over and saw that Kat was curled up on the couch in the back of the plane and Griz was sitting bolt upright in the chair beside me. He looked worried.
“What’s up big guy?” I asked. We hadn’t really had the opportunity to talk since leaving the compound. I had thought it would be a fight to get Griz to come home with me. To my surprise, he agreed without so much as a complaint. He usually refused to leave when there were still loose ends, one time explaining to me that he slept better when he knew what the outcomes were. I got it. I sometimes had nightmares that Cornelius was still alive, and I think it would have helped if I could have seen his death.
“Do you think you could not tell Destiny what happened to me at the compound?”
ETHAN POVI kissed the top of Izzy’s head and she groaned, pulling the blanket over her. I smiled, patting the bump that was her butt through the blanket. “I’ll see you down in the dining room for breakfast,” I whispered. My brothers had already gone downstairs and it was just her and me.“Not this morning,” she begged. “I’m too tired.”I frowned. This was unlike Izzy. When we returned from the north, she had listened to our report and then promptly went to bed. We were all tired, emotionally and physically, and we had all thought she was just recovering slower than she usually did. It had been over a week, and she was still really tired and I was starting to worry.“I’ll have something sent up,” was all I said. I didn’t want to worry her. I walked out into our sitting room and Troi came with me, twining around my
IZZY POV“I’m what?” I asked the doctor weakly, looking up at my mates who were grinning at each other like idiots.“Pregnant,” the doctor said again. “Congratulations, Luna. You will be due in the fall this time.”He packed up his stethoscope and gave me a reassuring smile before he left the room. Ethan looked at me with a massive grin.“Do you think it’s triplets again?” he asked. I looked at him with disbelief.“Umm, I didn’t know I was pregnant until thirty seconds ago. I have no idea if I’m pregnant with triplets or not.” I shook my head in disbelief but allowed a tiny smile to peek through. I just thought I had picked up a bug while I was up north. That was the only thing that I could think of that would explain my fatigue and nausea. Turns out I was growing a pup. Who knew?&
REESE POV"Talia, huh? We don't even get a vote?" I was teasing Izzy. She made a face at me."You guys got to name the boys. It's my turn. And I love the name. I have no idea how that name even came about, but it's perfect for her." She put her hands on her heart and her eyes sparkled. "I wish you could have seen her. She's absolutely beautiful but in a strong way, even at twelve years old. So tall for her age, and she has the same red hair the boys have. And her wolf is gigantic. Bigger than Dex.”I raised my eyebrow and looked at my brothers. I knew that they were wondering the same thing I was. It was unheard of for a pup to get their wolf that early. Maybe six months or a year before their eighteenth birthday, but never at age twelve. I wondered if what Izzy had was a regular old dream and not a vision of the future.Caleb cleared
IZZY POVI was feeling restless. My dream had done more than give me excitement and hope. It gave me energy.I bounded out of bed and got dressed in real clothing for the first time in a week. I had been living in sweatpants and hoodies for most of that time, ignoring everyone as much as I could. I decided I was going to go surprise my mates in their office, but first I was going to say hi to my boys.“Mom!” Axl shouted, running to me and throwing himself in my arms. I had gently knocked on the door, not sure if they would hear me since I could hear their gaming devices. I should have known that Axl would have his nose in a book instead of playing whatever popular game the other two were enjoying.“Hey, son,” I said, ruffling his hair. “Just checking up on you guys.”“You can come in,” he said, eagerly, opening the door. I saw that they had drawn the curtains
IZZY POV I have to admit, I was feeling a little cocky and self-righteous when I left my mates' office. I had completely worked myself up into a bit of a frenzy and was still contemplating what else I could throw at the Council when I walked into the foyer. My mother was standing there, completely still. I stopped. Something was wrong and I could tell it immediately. She had gone back to Salt Lake to be with Elder Johan shortly after we had arrived back at the Packlands. She was here, now, without warning and without Johan. She was pale and looked like she was in excruciating pain. Her face was red and blotchy, as if she had been sobbing for hours. I ran to her with a cry. "Mom! What's wrong?" I began running my hands over her body to check for injuries. She looked like she was physically hurting. "I'm okay, Izzy," she said with a brave smile. Then her face broke again. "Johan rejected me." "HE WHAT?" I was instantly angry and pulled out my cell phone. I was going to ca
IZZY POV“Yes, a vision.” I was getting annoyed with my mates. They were acting like they didn’t believe me. “How can you be sure it’s the baby’s gift?” Reese asked gently. I rolled my eyes. “Fine. Don’t believe me.” I turned to leave their office. I was so excited to tell them and they just rained on my parade. I was going to go find Lucy. She’d be happy for me. Ethan grabbed my arm gently and pulled me back. “Don’t go, Izzy. We’re just trying to understand.”I blew out my breath and flopped into a chair. “I don’t even understand it myself,” I confessed. “I just know it. I don’t know how to explain it. I know that the visions aren’t my gift. I’ve never had them before and it’s not anything I can control. I don’t even have a desire to control them. I just know it’s Talia’s gift. She was gifted this from Isis but somehow I’m getting them now, probably because she’s not born yet.”Caleb looked at his brothers and then at me. I braced myself. “That’s really cool, a
IZZY POVThat statement was easier said than done, I soon realized. I didn’t really know where the battlefield was. I was assuming the sirens were going off because the patrol had picked up on wolves trying to cross into our land. I was also assuming that they weren’t going to come through the front gate like civilized people. I saw a wolf bounding ahead of me and Heka put on a burst of speed to catch up to him. Where is the battle? I mind linked him. There is no battle yet so don’t get too excited, his wolf sarcastically said back to me. Then he looked over and almost tripped over himself. Luna! I am so sorry. I didn’t realize it was you.I didn’t say anything and then the wolf got himself together. The attacking wolves tried to cross over the northeastern most part of our border, he said.Thank you, I answered, speeding up. Soon, I couldn’t even hear him behind me.Shortly I heard the sounds of the altercation. The wolves were growling at each other, and they didn’t soun
ETHAN POVWe had a problem. Izzy’s kindhearted comment to the retreating warriors was meant as a reminder to them that there were still good places left in this world, but two enemy warriors decided to take her up on her offer. Normally that wouldn’t be an issue. But they were Alpha Leo’s kids. Alpha Leo was the Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack. And he was slightly deranged. I’ve always felt sorry for anyone who was from that Pack, simply because I had heard that he was very old fashioned, running his pack with slaves and oppressing his pack members. The Council didn’t intervene, primarily because there were no complaints from the Pack. Wolves were too afraid. But now we had two that were from the Blood Moon Pack, wanting to become part of our pack. I didn’t think for a moment that this could possibly be a trap from Alpha Leo. It was way too sophisticated, and he was not a smart man. He was also incredibly hated. I just didn’t realize his kids hated him, too.“Come on over here
EPILOGUE TALIA POV “Coming!” I answered my mom, looking in the mirror and tucking my hair behind my ear. Today was my eighteenth birthday and I was officially going to introduce my wolf to the Pack. I had technically been able to shift since I was a baby, but we had managed to keep that a secret from almost everyone, though it had been a close call a few times. My brothers were coming back from Mongolia with their mate, Zaria, and their friend, Leo, to help celebrate my birthday. They were on some sort of a mission for the Council, but they got permission to come home for this event. They were twelve years older than me and I liked to tease them about being old. They didn’t think I was as funny as I knew I was. They were cool, though, and all my friends loved my brothers. Their mate was also pretty awesome. She was the daughter of our Beta and one heck of a warrior. She went to the same camp my grandmama was accepted to. Only the best warriors are allowed to go. I ran
IZZY POV I rubbed my swollen belly and sat down behind my desk with a sigh. Baby girl was seriously a week overdue, and I was over being pregnant. I wanted to meet my Talia and that moment couldn’t come soon enough. A lot had happened in the three months since the Summer Solstice Celebration. Elder Voltaire had officially asked permission to join our pack and he put in his retirement notice to the Vampire Council. Apparently, serving as head Council Member for three hundred years was enough for him. We gave the Blood Moon Pack to Griz and Destiny. We talked a long time about it and had first asked Leo if he was interested in taking over for his father. He had vehemently turned down our offer, insisting that he never wanted to see the Blood Moon Pack again. When we had gone to visit, I could see why. The pack needed a lot of work and there was a general sense of discourse. Griz and Destiny agreed to take on the Pack with Griz being named the first non-wolf Alpha of a Pack.
IZZY POV“So what do you do, Elias?” Reese asked. I could see his nostrils flaring a little to see if he was a wolf. I didn’t sense a wolf in him, but I wasn’t going to ask. It was kind of like asking someone’s religion or income. If they offer the information, we could talk about it. But only if they offer it.“I’m a bounty hunter,” he said. Kat was clinging to his arm.“A supernatural bounty hunter,” she corrected. “He works for the Council, believe it or not.”Elias smiled. “Kind of. They hire me on occasion. I work for myself,” he corrected her gently.“Sorry,” she said, smiling. He leaned down and gently kissed her on the lips. I grinned. I was so happy for my friend.“Tell us about one of your captures,” Destiny asked. She was next to Griz,
IZZY POV“How are you doing?” I asked Destiny. We were busy hanging decorations around the backyard, and it was the first time I had a moment alone with her in a week. I knew she was feeling really guilty about Kat leaving. She shrugged. “I’m okay. I just feel awful every time I look at Griz. I never intended for her to leave. I just wanted her to be more careful.”I dropped the streamer I was holding and put my arm around her. “I know. And so does everyone else, including Kat. She just needed a change. She spent so much time and effort making sure every part of Cornelius was destroyed that she doesn’t know what to do now. She’s just trying to find her place.”Destiny sighed. “Tell Griz that. He is worried about her.”“She’s moving around pretty quickly,” I offered. “I think sh
IZZY POVThey say a Luna’s work is never done. They’re right.I got back and had my bath and some alone time with my mates, but the pack business didn’t slow down. I was involved in the planning of the half-way house we were building as well as another youth center. I approved budgets and began working on the nursery upstairs, a room we hadn’t used in eight years. And then I began to plan the summer solstice celebration, a tradition that we had upheld since we first started it thirteen years ago.“Black and white this year?” Destiny asked. “I hate black and white,” Lucy said. “It makes everything look so formal and this should be fun.”“Okay. Black and gold?” Destiny was relentless. Lucy threw a wadded up napkin at her.“You only want black because you love it,” Lucy accused her.Destiny shrugged.&
IZZY POVThe gavel dropped and the room exploded. I turned and Kat flew into my arms, hugging me. She wasn’t normally demonstrative, and I was pleased. I needed someone to hug right now, and Kat was perfect. She was also a great bodyguard. She pulled me through the reporters at the door and only got tripped up by one of the fae reporters who used projection to try to block us. Kat pushed him over and got me out of there and into a taxi without further incident.“Keystone Airport,” she told the taxi driver, naming a private airport. I was guessing that my mates had communicated with her.“I can’t wait to get back to the pack,” I said, leaning against the back seat. “I’m exhausted. I just want a bath and an uninterrupted night of sleep.”“I’m not going back with you,” Kat said suddenly. I sat up.“Why?
IZZY POVThe twenty-four members of the Councils filed out, leaving me standing at my table, still in the handcuffs. Thanks to Johan, the handcuffs were the normal ones that they used in the human world which meant I could break them if I needed to, but I wasn’t going to. I wanted the shifter world to see what was going on.After the council members left, Kat walked over to me bringing a couple of chairs. She plopped them down and I gratefully sat. “Did you have a vision earlier?” she asked.I nodded, rubbing my forehead. “Was it obvious?”“To me,” she answered. “I know you. I was about ready to create a diversion.”I chuckled. “You’re a good friend,” I said. A look crossed her face for a second but then disappeared. I had said something that bothered her. Curious. Her phone chirped and she looked at it.&n
REESE POVThere was an outburst from the spectators in the viewing area. The main werewolf and main vampire council members were banging their gavel, telling people to be quiet. We all exchanged grins.“We are not the ones on trial here, Luna,” the main vampire council member said fiercely.“No. You’re not. I am. And I am telling you why I had to do what I did,” Izzy said. She turned to the werewolf council again.“Who among you believed that the prophecy from Nehum thirteen years ago was about me?” She kept eye contact until all twelve members had their hands raised. “And who among you thought that the prophecy was also about my sons?” The same twelve hands were raised.“And the same on the vampire side?” she asked, turning. Reluctantly, some of their heads nodded. The others resolutely ignored her, keeping thei
REESE POV“This session will now come to order.” We were watching the trial on television. The Council, in their infinite wisdom, had decided at the last minute to broadcast the trial on a special encrypted channel that Packs would have access to. We had turned it on first thing this morning when we woke up, looking at an empty room somewhere in Salt Lake. We were watching when the members from both Councils filed in, twenty-four in total. Johan was part of the werewolf council. Alessia had gasped when she saw him take his seat. They had brought Izzy in with handcuffs on. I had roared, losing control of my wolf, but Alessia had wrestled me down. “It’s for show,” she had soothed me. “They’re not silver. Just look. She’s fine. She can break them in a second.” Vin was not convinced but at least he gave me control back.“Isadora Killian, Luna of the Moonstone Pack, you were called before the Council today to answer to an entire list of charges. But you were not the only one
