Hakeem’s leave was able to be extended because of our mating. When two wolves are mated, they go through a mating frenzy, which is why we hadn’t been able to keep our hands off of each other for too long over the past few weeks. It happens once the two wolves mark each other. The frenzy’s purpose is to get the she-wolf pregnant, though that wasn’t an issue for Hakeem and I yet. It was interesting that even though we were a same sex couple, we still went through the frenzy.

For typical, unranked wolves, this frenzy will last a week or two. For ranked wolves, on the other hand, the frenzy can last up to a month. Since Hakeem isn’t a ranked wolf, but I am, our frenzy petered out at 3 weeks and a day.

I can’t imagine what will happen when we get our she-wolf mate. She won’t be able to walk!
