Eliana Brown

~•~

I didn’t think things through when I jumped away from William.

I was so close to falling and hitting my head on the table when his hand came around my waist and pulled me even closer to him.

My scream faded into a gasp at our proximity. Had he been awake all this while? Why did he pretend to be asleep? I needed to dig a hole and bury myself as soon as possible! I was mortified. My cheeks were flaming red. How did I find new ways to embarrass myself in front of him every time?

“Are you good?” His morning voice was even deeper than his normal voice and the raspiness caught me off guard.

I nodded ferociously and moved away from him, still sitting on the couch because my legs were shaky as fuck.

I stared at the table and saw the bottle of wine we had shared last night. I had drank most of it. Was that why I ended on him last night? Who slept off first? What happened? Did I do anything stupid?

I looked at him, wanting to ask what happened last night but I didn’t want to em

Eliana Brown ~•~ For the second time that morning, I almost fell over but I quickly held on to the wall to prevent my ass from kissing the ground. I turned around to see that William was inside the kitchen, cooking. Didn’t he say he didn’t know how to cook? “Uh, yeah, I have plans with my friends.” “So you’re not having breakfast then?” I tried to look past him but I couldn’t see anything. After drinking a lot last night, I woke up hungry. “What are you making?” He shrugged. “Come find out.” Then he turned around to focus on the stove. My mouth fell open. Was he tempting me with food now? On purpose? Or did he want me to approach him so he could scold me about last night? I never liked going out to eat alone and breakfast was right in front of me. I was still contemplating going downtown but when my stomach rumbled in protest, I knew I had no choice but to go back where I came from. With a relenting sigh, I went back inside and dropped my bag on the couch on my way to the ki

Eliana Brown~•~After six weeks at my workplace, my superior no longer thought I didn’t deserve the job. Well, he still thought the same but he was killing me with work so that had to mean something, right? The company had been in existence for almost five years and I was told to sort out the files of all the hospitals we had worked with. I didn’t know why and I wasn’t very certain it was in my job description but I couldn’t outrightly say no.There were heaps and heaps of files and I wasn’t sure I would be done anytime soon. It was times like this that I regretted working in such a serious company. At a department store, I had nothing to do with files. Then again, that was the reason the pay was so high, wasn’t it? When I received my first paycheck at the end of my first month, I was astonished. I knew what the salary would be like but somehow it still surprised me when it hit my bank account. It was already six o’clock, an hour past closing time yet I wasn’t close to being done. Mo

William Caddel~•~“Do you think she’ll come down?” Duke asked me five minutes after my last call with Eliana.“She will,” I assured him. I knew Eliana quite well and even if she was avoiding me after I caught her caressing my face, she was going to come down anyway. She was one to give in easily, especially when she didn’t have a good enough excuse to do otherwise.True to my words, I saw her step outside and look around before her eyes landed on my car. I couldn’t hold back the smile that appeared on my face as she approached the car. Just like the other day, she didn’t know whether she should sit at the back or not. I locked eyes with Duke through the rearview mirror and he sighed dramatically, getting out of the car to open the back door for her.She smiled at him nervously and thanked him, avoiding my gaze as she sat beside me and closed the door.I hadn’t seen her this morning. Well, I’d barely seen her this past week but as always, she looked beautiful with her formal wear and

Eliana Brown~•~“Can you teach me how to drive?”Catherine burst out laughing at my random question but I couldn’t even be bothered because a week after taking lessons from a tutor at a driving school, the only things I knew were the names of the car parts.“Stop laughing.” I gritted my teeth. “Are you teaching me or not?”“Didn’t your husband offer to teach you?” She asked while she was still laughing. I wasn’t used to people calling William my husband so it always caught me by surprise. “You declined such a good offer yet you’re here asking me to teach you again.”“Is that the point?”“It is, of course.” Her laughing fit died down slowly. “You had the opportunity to get closer to this man and you threw it away because of your shyness.”“Opportunity?” My cheeks flushed red. “I don’t want to be closer to him. Why would I want to be close to him?”“I don’t know, Eliana.” Her tone dripped with sarcasm. “Maybe because you liked him?”Instinctively, I looked around to make sure no one co

William Caddel~•~Eliana was back home early and it was weird because I was expecting her to come back sometime later, which was why I didn’t refuse Duke and George’s visit. Since the only two other people who had access to my house were already present, it meant she was the one using the private elevator at that moment. Her lesson was supposed to last for a few hours but she was already back so soon. Did something happen? Or did her instructor cancel on her?As soon as Camilla noticed that someone was coming up, she ran to the elevator to find out who it was. She was a nosy little thing that couldn’t be stopped. Lately, the seven-year-old had gotten more curious than ever. One minute later, both Eliana and Camilla came into the living room. Eliana’s eyes immediately sought me. Her gaze strayed to Duke and George who were in the kitchen. “Hi.” They both greeted in unison. However, she didn’t respond to them and returned her gaze to me. She looked down at Camilla, then at me. “You ha

Eliana Brown~•~William had to get a manual car to teach me how to drive. According to him, the car he wanted to lend to me was automatic but he wanted me to be able to get myself out of sticky situations if need be.He was the teacher so I had no choice but to listen to him.William, who was always busy, suddenly had time to teach me how to drive four times a week; Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. It meant we were spending more time together than usual and Catherine was right, it gave me a chance to be closer to him.As expected, William was a lot more patient than my quick-to-anger driving instructor. The best part about it was that I didn’t have to pay for the lessons. Maybe I was taking advantage of William but if he didn’t complain, who was I to point it out?Being married to William was lowkey fun. He acted like a husband when we were alone and when we were outside, we had to act like we didn’t know each other. It was almost like we were secret lovers. We were just

William Caddel~•~I stared at my wristwatch, checking the time to see that Eliana must have been done with work by now.I had been at this meeting for more than an hour now and it wasn’t going anywhere. Eliana and I had driving lessons later today and I couldn’t stay any longer to hear him blab about nonsense. He saw me looking at my wristwatch and tutted. “You must be busy.”“I am,” I affirmed. “Which means I do not have the time to go back and forth with you. Eight million is my final price. Are you taking it or not?”Panic overtook his features. “What? Eight million?” Garrett spluttered. “You agreed on eight point seven a few weeks ago.”“And that offer has expired.” He was being silly. Any time I agreed on a price, he increased it. He was wasting my time on purpose and he knew damn well he wouldn’t get away with doing stupid shit like that. Then again he had someone backing him up; someone I was going to deal with as well. “Eight million dollars. Take it or leave it.”He scratche

William Caddel~•~By the time I reached my penthouse, there was another article circling around. It was another article of me and Sandra but this time the picture was of her poking her head in my vehicle. The angle made it seem like we were kissing while Duke stood by the side of the door, looking ahead. In the article, the writer was convinced that something was going on between us again. It was obvious this writer was different from the previous one and I could just tell it was one of Sandra’s cheap tricks to make people think we were back together. She thought I would succumb to the pressure and get with her again. She was delusional. It worked the last time because of my grandfather and there was also the fact that I didn’t like anyone back then. It was different this time. I was married. Even if the wedding was on false pretenses, I was married to the woman I wanted.“I wonder how your wife will react to this news.” Duke commented when he pulled over in the parking lot of my ap

When I told her it was important, she insisted on accompanying me. Denying her would either lead to more suspicions or make her mad so I accepted it.Duke was driving me today even if I had given him time off. The last break I’d given him wasn’t used to completion because he came back for my birthday and my grandfather died the morning after. He didn’t want me to handle Eliana’s ex alone so I also had no choice but to let him come along. On our way to the restaurant I told him to meet me at, my phone rang.I brought it out of my pocket only to see that it was Sandra calling. Eliana Brown~•~I knocked on Mr. Edward’s office once before I opened it and stepped in. “You wanted to see me, sir?”Without saying a word, he handed a document to me. I opened it to see that it was the sales report for the last month. “Uhhh…” I trailed off, not knowing what he wanted from me.“You’re doing the report again and you have…” he looked at the watch on his wrist. “About five minutes to get there.”My eyes went wide. I was surprised he was letting me report to William even if Bianca was present. Mr Edward had never liked me and even after finding out I was married to the boss of his boss, he still didn’t care. According to him, it made sense why I was hired. However, he thought I was capable so he wasn’t too bothered by my presence.“Really?”“Four minutes, fifty-two seconds.”“I’ll be on my way immediately!” I exclaimed and rushed out of his office. It seemed like he was finally warming up to me. The other day, he allowed me to meet a client on my own. Thankfully, the c

William Caddel~•~One week later I was finally back at work.Eliana resumed work way before me since her boss already didn’t like her. She didn’t want to give her reasons to fire her.The news of my grandfather’s death had hit the internet and every call I got these days was to offer condolences to me. I wouldn’t lie. It was quite tiring but I understood that my grandfather had a lot of friends and business partners before he retired and left the company for me.I had been tempted to have a private funeral but I wanted his friends to be able to say goodbye to him one last time, which was why I announced his death and the funeral to the public. The funeral happened two days ago yet people were still calling to sympathize with me.A knock on the door interrupted me from my thoughts and without waiting for permission to enter, Duke came in, slamming the door close behind him.I cocked my head at him. “Is something wrong?”“You have an unwanted visitor.”“Who?”“Eliana’s ex.”I frowned.

Eliana Brown~•~After being recognized as William’s wife publicly, it was a lot easier to navigate expensive places.Back when I was just Eliana Brown, it was very hard to even book a reservation for places like this. If my friends and I wanted to dine in such a nice restaurant, we had to book several months ahead, but this time, I could just waltz in and get what I wanted without any stress. I wouldn’t lie. William’s connections were quite good. It was precisely because the owner knew William which was why the staff prioritized me as soon as I got there. It felt good. Also, I didn’t have to keep William waiting. He finally wanted to eat something. If I took too long, he could change his mind. I couldn’t have that. They boxed my order and the owner handed it to me personally, telling me to send his regards to William. I nodded and assured him we’d visit soon before I left and flagged down a taxi. The ride back home wasn’t long but I was impatient and kept bouncing my leg each second

I saw this coming. I knew it would happen soon but I still wasn’t prepared for it.Even after the official announcement of his death, I still couldn’t believe he was gone. As though I was in a trance, I dealt with all the paperwork and did all the necessary things to transfer his corpse to the mortuary.Eliana accompanied me every step of the way, staying close by as though she was scared I would snap.I wouldn’t. I felt numb. It hadn’t prop

Eliana Brown~•~I woke up to the sound of rustling on the bed.My head was aching from all the alcohol I had the previous night, but William’s footsteps were too heavy to ignore.I rubbed my eyes as I sat up on the bed, wondering why William was up. It was four o’clock in the morning. Even if he was an early riser, he didn’t wake up so early these days.I watched as he dashed into the closet and came back out dressed in less than a minute.“What’s going on? Where are you going?”He turned to look at me when he heard my voice. “The hospital.”Every atom of sleep cleared from my eyes immediately. “What? Is something wrong with Grandpa?” As I asked that question, I was already getting out of bed. Thankfully, William hadn’t taken off my clothes last night so I didn’t have to bother about finding clothes. He nodded as he grabbed his car keys from the nightstand as well as his phone.“I’m coming with you.”“You had a stressful night. You don’t have to.”“I will.” I rushed into the bathroom

William Caddel ~•~It didn’t matter that we just had a bunch of food and snacks with my grandfather. Eliana took me to dinner again.Well, we went roller skating first, which was chaotic because she had never done it in her life, but after that, we went to a restaurant.I was forty, but apart from my parents, no one had put in this much effort to celebrate my birthday. They died pretty early, which meant I hadn’t been celebrated like this in more than thirty years. If I wasn’t already married to Eliana, I would propose to her again. I didn’t regret any of my actions because she was the best thing to ever happen to me.I looked at my watch. “It’s already past ten. Do you have something else in mind or is this the end?” I couldn’t help but question because it felt like she wanted to celebrate every second of the day with me.Eliana giggled, already feeling tipsy from the one glass of wine she drank. She was such a lightweight. “One more once we’re done here.”I was intrigued, wondering

William Caddel~•~I was still surprised as Eliana opened the door and exited the car. I followed suit anyway.“Happy birthday, dude. Have a nice day.” Duke waved to me and started the engine again when we were out of the car.I didn't even have the time to answer him before he drove off, leaving me and Eliana alone. She was struggling with the bag and the box of cake, but when I offered, she slapped my hand away. “I can do it.”“I know.” I humored her. “I just want to help.”“You're the birthday boy, you shouldn't have to do anything.”My face scrunched up in displeasure. “Don't call me that again. It's insulting.”“My bad.” Eliana laughed. “I forgot the age you're turning today.”“Let's just go in.” I took the beg from her and headed for the hospital doors. She ran behind me and tried to take the bag from me but I didn't let her.Knowing we were obviously going to my grandfather's room, I went straight there. William Caddel~•~As bright and early as six o'clock in the morning, Eliana knocked on my door and pulled me from sleep.I had woken up but I didn't move from the bed. When she got tired of knocking, she pushed the door open and walked in. “Wake up, Will. It's your birthday today.”I kept my eyes closed. She was announcing it like I didn't know that as well. “Will? William?” Her voice got closer and soon I could feel her presence right next to me. “Wake up, William. You are not usually a deep sleeper.” At this point, her face was right next to mine. “Are you doing it on purpose?”I responded by pulling her onto the bed and wrapping my arms around her. I let out a satisfied sigh, loving the feeling of her body mashed up against mine.“Will!” Her voice was muffled since her face was buried in my chest.“It's my birthday today.” I reminded her of what she said just a few seconds ago. “Let me enjoy this for a moment, please.”“Will.” She mumbled for the last time before she eventually g
