Adasha

The night with Kai had been intense, filled with an unspoken urgency, a need that neither of us could put into words.

We made love until the early hours of the morning, losing ourselves in each other, in the solace we found within our bond.

I knew there was a storm brewing—questions that needed answers, fears that loomed just beyond my reach. But for that night, I pushed it all away. Because Kai needed me.

And in that moment, the only thing I could give him was comfort.

Now, as I stirred awake, reality seeped back in.

I reached across the bed, already expecting what I found—an empty space where Kai should have been.

The sheets on his side were cool to the touch. He had been gone for a while.

I sighed, running my fingers through my hair, willing my mind to focus. But it was hard.

The scent of breakfast lingered in the air, warm and inviting, reminding me just how late in the morning it was. It had been a long, exhausting night.

Pushing back the covers, I slid out of bed, stretch

AdashaThe moment was heavy—thick with unspoken words, with curiosity, with fear.It lingered between us, stretching the silence into something awkward, something almost unbearable. I could feel it in the air, pressing against me, against him.Something was wrong. But would he tell me? Would he trust me enough to let me in?I cleared my throat, grasping for something—anything—to break the tension. "The weather is beautiful," I said lightly, attempting to ease the weight between us.Kai chuckled, shaking his head."Tell me what’s on your mind, Adasha."His voice was smooth but knowing, his golden eyes locking onto mine. "I can feel your curiosity."I blinked, a little startled. So, he had noticed."Was I that obvious?" I asked, half-smiling.He nodded, the amusement in his expression not quite reaching his eyes.Of course, he was just as obvious. But I held my tongue on that.Taking a slow breath, I steadied myself before finally speaking the words that had been clawing at me since las

AdashaThe thought of only one person walking away from that fight gnawed at me, clawing at my insides with an unbearable truth.I couldn’t let it happen. Not like that. Not between them.If I truly wanted freedom from Randy—if I wanted to be rid of him, of his control, of the lingering fear that still shadowed my every step—then I had to free myself. No one else could do it for me."Then he will have to fight me to keep me," I said, my voice steady, my resolve solidifying like iron.Kai tensed beside me, his fingers gripping mine tighter, but I didn’t stop."For all the years I was with him, I respected him as my Alpha. I never defended myself." I swallowed, forcing down the bitter taste of memory. "I loved him, you know?"Kai’s jaw tightened, but I pushed forward, because if I didn’t say it now, I never would."The thought of fighting him, of hurting him—it never sat well with me. Not that I’d even win if I tried," I let out a small, humorless chuckle. "But the idea of inflicting pa

KaiAdasha’s words cut through me like a blade, sharp and merciless.I had no response—because there was nothing I could say that would lessen the weight of what she had just confessed. She meant every word.I could see it in her eyes—the same resolve I had only ever heard about in whispered legends. The same unwavering determination Michelle must have had in her final moments, when she realised Kevin was dead, when she believed her child was lost. She had taken her own life that day.Because to her, there was nothing left worth living for.And now, staring at Adasha, I saw that same terrifying resolve flickering behind her gaze. She would do it.If she thought my life—my people’s lives—were in danger because of her, she would throw herself into the fire without hesitation. And that was what terrified me the most.Because she didn’t even know the full truth yet.She didn’t know who she was.How could I tell her now? How could I drop this truth on her when she was already willing to sa

Kai "Very well, Kai." Adasha's voice was steady, unwavering. "But if he dares come here with an army, I will fight him myself." I stiffened, my grip tightening around the fork in my hand. "He either releases me, or he kills me." She meant it. I could see it in her eyes—the same quiet resolve, the same unshakable determination that had both terrified and awed me since the moment I met her. But I knew Randy. I knew the way his mind worked, the way his rage and jealousy festered beneath his skin. His obsession. His desperate need for control, fueled by his unresolved anger, his deep-seated mommy issues, his inability to trust. Would he truly kill her? No. But could his blind, unchecked fury drive him to make a mistake he could never take back? That was the real question. One I didn’t intend to leave to chance. We finished breakfast in relative silence, the tension lingering between us like an unspoken promise—or a looming storm. As soon as Adasha stepped away, I headed stra

Kai"Please, have a seat, Aunty. Take a deep breath. You don’t look good at all."I kept my voice calm, measured. If I didn’t get her to relax, we’d be here all day before she got to the point. She nodded stiffly, lowering herself into the chair across from my desk. Her hands trembled slightly, and despite my irritation, I couldn’t ignore the way her posture remained rigid, as if she was bracing herself for something catastrophic.Whatever had rattled her—it wasn’t small. So, I waited."Malachi," she began, her voice uneven, "we don’t know anything about that woman. About where she’s from."I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, already expecting another long-winded argument about Adasha, but before I could shut her down, she lifted a hand."This has nothing to do with Laura or the Westwoods. Please, just listen to me."There was something in her tone—something pleading. It was enough to make me pause.I exhaled, folding my arms across my chest. "Fine. Speak."Her shoulders sagged sligh

Kai"Do you have witnesses?"My voice was calm—too calm.Because if anyone else had seen what she claimed, then I had a bigger problem than just my aunt’s paranoia. A much bigger problem. She shook her head. "Unfortunately, it was just the two of us."Relief flooded through me, but I didn’t let it show.I leaned back slightly, exhaling as if I found this entire conversation absurd."Are you sure any of this even happened?"My tone was laced with skepticism, carefully measured, but she didn’t waver. She nodded, her face etched with frustration. "Please, believe me, Malachi."Her voice was quieter now, almost pleading."I know we don’t see eye to eye on things, but this—this is serious. I didn’t sleep at all last night."She lowered her voice, glancing toward the door as if someone could be listening."I did some research, you know."I stiffened slightly."And?""It’s similar to a third-degree compulsion ability."A slow chill spread through me, but I kept my expression unreadable."Thi

Kai"All I see here is you trying to discredit Adasha."My voice was cold, unyielding."Trying to tie her to a massacre, to paint her as a fugitive, all while slipping in just enough sympathy for Laura to make me hesitate."I leaned forward slightly, my eyes locking onto hers."It won’t work, Aunty."Her face twisted in frustration, and she shook her head vehemently."Stop it, Malachi. I’m serious!"Her voice cracked, her desperation bleeding through."I am telling you the truth. Why would I lie about something like this? Please!"I clenched my jaw, unwilling to entertain her paranoia."Forget the Laura part," she said quickly, as if realizing she had played that card too early."I was just thinking out loud. She’s in River Creek with her father now, and I doubt she’ll ever come back."I arched a brow. Not a whisper to the Westwoods. Not so much as a slip of the tongue at a dinner table."I let the silence stretch, let her feel the weight of what I was about to say."And know this—if I go down, you go down too."She stiffened, her eyes widening slightly."The Nine Families want a power rotation, Aunty."I let the words sink in, watching as confusion flickered across her face."They’re already clamoring for it, already moving behind the scenes. KaiI pinned the bastard beneath me, my grip bruising, my rage boiling over.Twice.Twice in a single night, I had come inches from death. My body ached, my wounds burned, but none of it compared to the fury coursing through my veins. The man beneath me struggled, his naked form trembling with raw anger. His eyes—wild, unrelenting—held nothing but pure hatred. But something about him made me pause. There was a look, a presence—peculiar, unmistakable.Moonchild.I hesitated for just a second, and Draco’s growl snapped me back."Speak!" he barked, his voice sharp as steel. The man didn’t flinch. His chest rose and fell in ragged breaths, but he held my gaze with defiance.I bared my teeth, forcing my knee harder into his ribs."Why are you trying to kill us?" My voice came out rough, guttural, edged with the violence still pumping through me. "Twice tonight—you and your wolves attacked us!"A flicker of confusion crossed his face."We didn’t attack you."I stilled."We followed you from

KaiI didn’t need to be told—we were under attack.A thick gas flooded the cabin, burning my throat the second I inhaled it. My vision blurred, and a sharp, searing pain split through my skull. My nose was bleeding—I could taste the metallic tang in my mouth.Poison.We had no choice but to run.The moment we burst out of the cabin, the cold air hit my skin, but it did nothing to clear my head. My body felt sluggish, my limbs heavier than they should be. Had they traced us from the banquet hall? Had they known we’d come here? I had no answers. But right now, answers didn’t matter.Survival did."Poison gas," Randy muttered, his own breaths ragged.I nodded grimly, already assessing the battlefield. We were surrounded.Vicious, predatory wolves encircled us, their growls vibrating through the ground beneath our feet. Yellow eyes glowed in the dark, muscles coiled, ready to strike.I quickly counted our numbers.Me. Randy. Draco. Draco’s Gamma and Beta. Randy’s Beta and Gamma. Darius. G

KaiWe finally arrived at the cabin in Cleverbridge, and Lucian wasted no time. He had to take my aunt for medical assistance, leaving the rest of us behind. As I stepped inside, a familiar scent of aged wood and earth greeted me.The place was exactly as I had left it—furniture covered with waterproofing to keep the dust at bay, the faint smell of cedar still clinging to the air.It had been a while since I’d last been here, and the nostalgia hit me unexpectedly."I have clothes that will fit us," I said, already heading toward my room. The others shuffled inside, their exhaustion palpable."Make yourselves comfortable," I added over my shoulder. "The cabin is off-grid, but Darius knows his way around. There should be some canned food in the kitchen we can heat up."I disappeared into the room, pulling open old drawers, grateful that I had stashed extra clothes here in case of emergencies. This wasn’t exactly what I had in mind, but at least we wouldn’t have to suffer in the ill-fitt

"As long as they don’t have compulsion abilities—""I doubt the Moonchild descendants pose any real threat," I cut in before he could finish. The van was silent, the road stretching endlessly ahead as I continued."Michelle Westwood was served Nightshade tea. She was happy being Kevin’s mate. She wasn’t trying to reclaim her grandfather’s kingdom, wasn’t looking to start a war."I ran a hand down my face, feeling the exhaustion clawing at me."Most of the Twelve family members who attended that day were ready for a fight. KaiLucian arrived an hour later.By then, my aunt was doing better—her breathing stronger, her color returning—but she still wasn’t lucid. Her body was healing, but her mind was somewhere else, caught between recovery and the lingering effects of the silver. We stood there, bare-skinned in the middle of the forest, the chill biting at our skin. But none of us cared. The weight of what had happened, of how close we had come to death, was heavier than the cold. How did the council expect us to react?Did they truly believe we would just accept this? That we would swallow their lies and pretend this wasn’t an orchestrated execution attempt? What excuse would they give? What bullshit would they spin to justify turning the banquet hall into a silver-cage death trap?Draco stood off to the side, his body rigid, his fists clenched. His silence was louder than any words. He was seething. Out for blood. And I couldn’t blame him.If we had stayed in that hall any longer—if we had hesitated, if

Kai"This hall was built by our great-grandfathers after the fall of King Lycus Moonchild," Randy said, his voice laced with exhaustion."It was meant to be a symbol of hope and peace."I glanced at him, noting the strain in his posture, the subtle tremor in his hands. He was feeling it too—the slow, creeping weakness as the silver took its toll.We were running out of time."And how exactly is that relevant to our situation?" I asked, my patience thinning.Randy exhaled, his gaze sweeping across the room."Because the times back then weren’t as peaceful as they are now. Our great-grandfathers would have built this place with caution. With escape routes. They had to have been prepared for betrayal, for war."I sighed, rubbing a hand over my face. "We’ve checked everywhere, Randy. There aren’t any hidden doors. No levers. No secret passages."He nodded, his jaw tight. "Then we check the floor."I frowned, but he wasn’t wrong. All this time, we had been searching the walls, the windows,

Kai"You better give her back once we’re out of here."Randy’s voice was firm, but there was something else laced beneath it—desperation. Even now, trapped, he was still clinging to the matter of Adasha.I narrowed my eyes. "You mean if we get out of here."The walls, the windows, the doors—every exit was reinforced. We weren’t walking out of here anytime soon. We had to wait, bide our time until the silver was retracted. And even then, we’d have to fight our way out.Randy’s Beta stepped forward, his tone grim. "The only way out is when they come for us. We need a plan. We have to be ready when they attack."Randy barely acknowledged him. His attention was still on me."You can’t keep her."His voice was raw, something breaking beneath the anger."She isn’t safe with you. And now, she was paying the price.I tore a strip of fabric from her ruined clothes, hands steady despite the fury simmering in my veins, and bound the wound as tightly as I could. It wouldn’t fix everything, but it would stop the bleeding long enough for her wolf to catch up."Trap?"Gabriel’s voice pulled me back to the present. I lifted my gaze to meet his and nodded as I stood, my muscles aching from the shift."It’s odd, isn’t it?" I said, scanning the ruined hall."The attackers aren’t trapped in here with us.
