Sweat clung to Easton’s forehead as he twisted and turned in his bed, the sheets tangled around him. His breath came in sharp gasps, tears streaking his face as he was pulled deeper into the nightmare that haunted him every night.

"Mummy, please don't go!" A frightened voice pleaded, echoing in his mind.

Easton stood on trembling legs, reaching out to his mother's figure. She was walking away, her steps faltering on the edge of a steep cliff. Her white dress billowed in the wind.

"Stop her! Dad, stop her!" Easton, bound in the sand and unable to move, turned desperately to his father, who sat motionless, his face buried in the documents in his hands.

No response came.

"She's going to fall!" Easton screamed, “Mum! Please stop!” tears streaming down his face.

But no one listened. His mother turned to him one last time, her face peaceful, but her eyes filled with sorrow. “I love you so much, my prince. You’ll always be my perfect angel though you’re now so grown.” She whispered in a s

Easton’s hand darted out, and he grabbed the panhandle to steady it. The searing heat burned his palm, and he hissed in pain but held firm, moving the pan off the burner.“Are you out of your mind?” he snapped, as he turned, glaring at her. “You could’ve seriously hurt yourself.”Scarlet stared at him, her anger momentarily forgotten as guilt flared. “You didn’t have to— Your hand, are you okay?”Easton ignored her question, lifted her off the floor, and placed her on the counter on the opposite end. “Stay there,” Easton ordered, his voice softer but still firm. He ran his hand under cold water, then grabbed a mop and soap to clean the oil on the floor.“Wouldn’t it make you happy if I got burned? Why did you save me?” Scarlet asked, her heart still pounding from his touch. “Don’t you hate me that much?” “I do hate you but you’re no use to anyone if you’re burnt.” Easton retorted without looking up.Scarlet watched him but couldn’t help but taunt him, “You know if you hadn’t called m

Scarlet felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her. Her laughter faded instantly, and she took a step back feeling stupid. What was she doing here having warm moments with a man who hated her and was probably engaged to Jade?“Jade,” Easton said, surprised. “What are you doing here?”Jade’s eyes flickered to Scarlet, her expression flat masking her boiling rage. All she wanted to do was pull out Scarlet’s heart and chop it into tiny pieces but in front of Easton, she had to play nice. “I came to check on you, of course. I didn’t expect to find you entertaining guests so early. Scarlet, isn’t it?”Scarlet snorted, “You didn’t seem to have a problem with your memory the last time we met.” Easton held back a smile at the memory of the video he watched where Scarlet was slapping the shit out of Jade. Jade’s smile didn’t reach her eyes. “ Oh pardon me. I had to be sure you know. It’s not every day that you walk into an employee laughing with her boss in his kitchen. But I

“What the hell happened to you?” Melania Voss looked at the sight before her.Jade threw her purse onto the nearest chair and sank into the sofa, bursting into tears. “Easton! He… he’s turning on me! He grabbed me by the throat, humiliated me, and nearly ran me over!” Her makeup was smudged, her hair disheveled, and her throat still ached from Easton’s grip. Her mother, Melania, looked up from the couch, where she sat sipping tea. The elegant woman arched a perfectly groomed brow at the sight of her daughter’s state. She set her tea down with measured grace, her sharp eyes narrowing. “And why exactly would he do that, Jade? What did you say to him? As far as I know, Easton never shows emotions so this is a first.”“I didn’t say anything.” Jade sniffed.“So he just saw you and held you by the throat? That sounds crazy!” Melania leaned back on the couch and placed her leg on top of the other one. Before Jade could respond, her father, James, entered the room, his voice cold and demandi

No one was safe and worse off, they had a meeting today.“Should we reschedule the meeting, sir?” Kai asked the moment Easton sat down.“Why?” He asked as if he wasn’t giving out murder vibes.“Thought you were busy and needed time to-”“Just spit it, Kai.” Easton cut him off impatiently.Kai sighed, “Well you’re not in a good mood and you look like shit. Plus whoever is presenting today will do a messy job if you keep up with that glare.” He rumbled it all in one sentence.“That’s bullshit.” Easton responded, “I would never look like shit even if I tried. ‘The next morning……Scarlet dragged herself into the office, her exhaustion evident in every step. The faint shadows beneath her eyes spoke of a sleepless night, and her normally glossy hair was swept into a hasty ponytail. Her blouse was slightly wrinkled, and the faint redness around her eyes hinted at tears that she had fought back. She was a strong girl but her walls were cracked and she was barely holding on. Thankfully, Jasmine had a school trip for a week where they would tour around the different parts of the country before schools closed. With a heavy sigh, she opened the door to Easton’s office and found him standing by the large window, his back to the door, staring out at the city skyline. When Scarlet entered, he turned to face her and her tired appearance caught his attention. For a moment, his heart clenched—a flash of concern breaking through his cold exterior. But the thought was fleeting, replaced quickly by the desire to avenge his brother hardening his heart into i

He was indeed long gone and the man she thought loved her now despised her. She couldn’t change his mind or explain her way through. “I have to go!” She said as she rushed out of the hospital room. Sky walked into the office building, her usual bright mood nowhere in sight. She was feeling so low after the hospital visit and even though they were not telling her everything. She knew something wasn’t right. She wanted to call in sick but she had already been away for seven days. Knowing her newly found bestie would be there, she looked forward to seeing her designs. Being with Scarlet always put her in a good mood because watching her design felt like she was closer to her mother who was the best fashion designer in Haybern and beyond. When she reached the office seat Scarlet always occupied, her frown deepened. The desk was empty.Sky looked around hoping she was just grabbing a coffee mug she loved or something so she sat and ten minutes later, there was still nothing!“Where is she?” Sky muttered under her breath. Scarlet was always early, always the first to arrive. The absence gnawed at her. Pulling out her phone, Sky dialed Scarlet’s number. It went straight to voicemail.

Easton’s jaw clenched as unease gripped his chest. It couldn’t be Sky—she had just stormed out. “What do you want?” he asked, forcing himself to remain calm.“Ah, you catch on quick. I need a favor from you, Mr. Black. It’s a small one, really. A little trade.”Kai’s brows furrowed as he watched Easton, concern evident in his eyes. Easton held up a hand to silence him.“I don’t deal with cowards who hide behind threats. Ten years later…The Black estate was alive with laughter and warmth, a stark contrast to the cold, intimidating mansion it had once been. “It wasn’t me!” Michael Black, once known for his gruff and no-nonsense demeanor, had long since abandoned any illusion of control in his household. He stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of his office, sipping his morning coffee, and watching the chaos unfold in the garden below. His ten-year-old daughter, Sophia, a whirlwind of energy with her mother’s stubbornness and his sharp mind, was currently chasing her younger brother, Eli, around the backyard. Eli, at six years old, was just as mischievous as his sister, but with a charm that let him get away with just about anything—especially with his mother. Vivian had always been a force to be reckoned with, but as a mother, she was even more terrifyingly devoted. Michael smirked as he watched her from the window. She was standing with Scarlet, laughing as she scolded Sophia for attempting

“What is going on?” Vivian asked, her voice laced with curiosity as Michael carefully led her outside, his large hands covering her eyes. “Just trust me,” he murmured near her ear, his deep voice sending a familiar shiver down her spine. Vivian huffed but didn’t argue. She could feel the cool evening breeze against her skin and the soft sound of music in the background. The scent of roses filled the air, mingling with something delicious—her stomach grumbled in anticipation. Finally, Michael stopped his hands slowly slipping away from her face. Vivian blinked as her vision adjusted, and when she finally took in what was before her, her breath hitched. The backyard had been transformed into something straight out of a dream. A large mattress covered in rose petals was nestled under twinkling fairy lights, and a beautifully set dinner table stood nearby, illuminated by the soft glow of candles. A huge screen was set up, ready to play what she assumed was one of their favorite

The grand estate was transformed into a dream-like setting, decorated in soft hues of pink and blue. Fairy lights twinkled in the trees, and elegant floral arrangements adorned every corner of the sprawling garden. A large "Baby Black" banner hung over the beautifully arranged dessert table, where an assortment of sweets and a magnificent tiered cake waited to be cut. Michael had spared no expense, ensuring the event was perfect. Vivian, of course, had demanded something extravagant, and he had gladly complied. Vivian stood in the center of it all, glowing, her six-month baby bump accentuated by a flowing satin dress that curved just below her bust. She had chosen a shimmering gold gown, refusing to blend into the pink and blue theme. Her hair had been turned into soft curls, and her eyes sparkled with excitement. Michael, ever the grumpy billionaire, stood beside her in a white shirt and black pants, looking both inpatient and ridiculously handsome. Vivian had complained a

Michael unlocked the door to their home. A cake in one hand and flowers in another. His mind still running through his conversation with Easton. Foot rubs, space, asking what she needed—it all felt a little… too simple. But he’d try. He needed to try. The moment he stepped inside, he was hit with the scent of freshly baked cookies. He paused, taking a slow breath. His heart rate quickened. Was she really baking? Vivian didn’t exactly strike him as the domestic type. His curiosity led him further into the house, and that’s when he saw her. Vivian stood by the kitchen counter, a wide grin on her face, clearly waiting for his reaction. Her apron was askew, flour streaked on her cheek, but she looked happier than he’d seen her in days. “Michael!” she exclaimed, her voice laced with excitement. “I made cookies! I thought you’d like them.” “Really? I got you your cake and some flowers.” Micheal responded, hesitation filling his voice as he searched for a reaction.Vivian’s smil

Michael sat across from Easton at a secluded café, nursing a cup of coffee. His eyes were bloodshot, and his hands kept fidgeting as if he had no idea what to do with them. His mind was racing, but he was at a complete loss. Easton sat back in his chair, eyes scanning the menu as if Michael wasn’t about to have a mental breakdown in front of him. Finally, he looked up, raising an eyebrow as he studied his older brother. “You look like shit,” Easton said with a smirk, clearly not concerned with Michael’s state of mind. Michael glared at him. “You always have a way with words, don’t you?” Easton chuckled and leaned forward, folding his arms across his chest. “So, what’s going on? The great Michael Black losing his cool over a pregnancy?” Michael huffed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “I can’t do anything right, Easton. She cries all the time, and I don’t know how to handle it. Everything I do seems to upset her. I just want her to be happy.”Easton raised

Michael’s grip tightened on his pen as his phone vibrated again. He ignored it. For the past thirty minutes, Vivian had been bombarding him with messages—most of them utterly useless. Vivian: [Where’s the cup?]Michael: [Kitchen.] Vivian:[Where are the plates?]Michael: [Same place as the cups.] Vivian:[Should I bring you lunch?]Michael: [No.]Vivian:[Why not?]Michael inhaled sharply, fighting the urge to rub his temples. He was in a high-stakes meeting with top executives, discussing a billion-dollar deal, and his wife was acting like a toddler. They had moved into a new home because she hated penthouses and apartments. So he had built her a house she could turn into a home but now he was regretting having had everything done. He should have let her decorate to keep her busy. Another buzz. Vivian:[What are you doing?] Michael clenched his jaw. [Working.]Vivian: [Boring. Want me to send you a funny picture?]He didn’t reply. 6 months later….“Vivian, please! You have to talk to your husband!"Vivian held the phone away from her ear, staring at it like it had personally offended her. She sighed, reclining further into the oversized armchair, her silk nightgown draping over her six-month belly. Her father’s frantic voice continued. “He’s taken everything! The company, the house—do you hear me? I have nothing left! Your sister's savings for her tuition!" Vivian swirled the fresh orange juice in her glass, utterly unimpressed. “Mmm. That does sound like a problem.” "Vivian Chen!”“It's Mrs Black. Don't make me lose my temper this morning.”“Right. Right. You see you're his wife make him reverse it!” Vivian had no idea what Micheal had done but she was bored and would enjoy every moment of it. She sighed dramatically. "Oh, I’m sorry. I should be more understanding. After all, when I needed help, everyone rushed to my aid, didn’t they? Oh wait—no one did.” "This isn’t funny! Tell Michael to stop this

The room felt impossibly small despite how grand the ceremony was. Vivian’s pulse thundered in her ears as the priest began speaking, his voice a distant sound compared to the storm of emotions within her.So this was happening. Instead of being sold to an old hag, she was now marrying a stranger who she had a one night with. It's not the best option, but it's definitely the lesser evil. Michael’s hand remained wrapped around hers—firm, warm, unshaking. He looked like he was sure about this. Calm and collected while her mind was going wild, and she was about to go insane from the number of thoughts that were spinning in her head. Doubts. Fear. Uncertainty. He had always been a mystery, with a strong aura she folded to. Yet, standing here, the certainty in his eyes sent a shiver down her spine. This was real. The priest cleared his throat. "The couple has chosen to exchange personal vows. Michael, you may begin."“We have?” Vivian blurted out, making everyone chuckle. It was li
