Ana

It was 6:00 pm on the dot when Ben and I finally left the office and headed for home.

We left the same way we'd come in: hand in hand. But this time, it didn't feel as forced and uncomfortable as it did in the morning.

I settled in the back seat of Ben's jeep and thought back to the various incidents of that day and how each changed the way I looked at Ben.

The first one was Kelly. Maybe I was wrong about the incident with Kelly, because Kelly turned out to be not-so-good at her job.

And Flynn? Ben probably only yelled at Flynn because he was stressed and frustrated. After all, he did apologize for his outburst later, didn't he?

But Shirley? Hell no. As far as I was concerned, that woman deserved everything Ben and I said to her in the office. You don't just walk into someone's establishment and start making threats and expect to be let off with a pat on the back.

Thank God I was there to put her in her place, because Ben sure wasn't doing a great job of it. Their history together

AnaI gave Candace a questioning look. “What kind of…situation are we talking about?”She pursed her lips, then nodded and handed me a piece of folded white paper. I opened it to find scrawny handwriting by someone named…Anonymous? The note read: "My lovely Beth, You think you're too good for me? You think you can just dump me and move on?Newsflash: nobody dumps me, I do the dumping. You're gonna pay for humiliating me, and your precious sister won't be able to save you. You're not as special as you think.”My eyes scanned the note, my mind racing with questions. "Who wrote this?" I demanded, my voice barely above a whisper.Candace's expression turned grim. "We don't know," she admitted. "Beth received it earlier today. She's been shaken ever since."I read the note again, my heart sinking."Is this related to Tony, or even Shirley?" I wondered aloud.Candace's eyes widened. “Did you just say Shirley?"I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. “Yes, Shirley. She came by Ben's office

BenI left the mansion almost immediately after I received the call. As soon as I stepped out the door, I saw Terrence try to open the car door for me but I shook my head and told him not to worry.I was going to drive myself as I needed to take care of things and also clear my head.I didn't want to show my emotions in front of Ana but I was a bit unnerved by Shirley's sudden appearance again. The second time in three weeks. Something was definitely up and I intended to stay very far away from whatever shit Shirley was trying to pull.I drove through the highway, making plans and contemplating the excitement and uncertainty of traveling to Tokyo with Ana.The events of the day had told me one thing about her: Ana wasn't someone to be trifled with, not that I was surprised. The way she handled Shirley and her superficial behavior was satisfying to watch.I pulled into the estate, braking to a stop in front of a magnificent building. Remi came out of the house as I was trying to park

AnaWe were all seated at the dining table, about to have dinner when I noticed Ben was missing. I remembered waving him off while he was on a call while I left to check up on Beth and Liam.Where was he? It was already dark outside.I turned to Candace, my voice filled with worry. “Seems Ben won't be coming to dinner,” I commented casually.Candace shrugged and continued dishing out food. Well, that wasn't the answer I was hoping to get.Luckily, a maid approached the table when she heard my question and politely informed me that Mr. Pierce had gone out two hours ago.Gone out? Two hours ago? That was almost the same time he'd taken that call when we came back. Could that have been Shirley calling?I knew it! He finally succumbed and went to see her. It's true what they say: a man never forgets his first love. Who knew what they were doing right now?I wouldn't trust that Shirley woman to not try and start something with Ben. Soon I lost my appetite just thinking about Ben and Shirl

Ben was taken aback at my outburst and paused to stare at me, “Are you alright, Ana? Did you say something?”Realizing that I'd fucked up, I scrambled around in my mind, trying to cover up my dumb outburst. “Did you hear something?” I stupidly asked with raised brows.Ben stared at me, a confused look on his face. Then he shook his head and took a seat at the table.Seconds later, a maid appeared and began to set dinner for him. I just stood there, rooted to the spot, and trying to find the best way to start up a conversation. But I didn't know what to say or how to start without getting mad and going off on him again. So I took a calming breath, and tried again.“You missed dinner,” I commented casually, sliding in the seat opposite him.“Yeah,” he replied, munching on his food. “I needed to clear my head.”“Where did you go?” I asked, and hesitated, waiting for the bomb to drop. But I soon found out that I'd bitten more than I could chew because Ben suddenly dropped his cutleries an

After I threatened to alight, the rest of our journey went smoothly, with Terrence finally driving like a sane person. Minutes later, we pulled into a large expanse of land with three to four airplanes parked in the vicinity. My mouth hung open in shock as it dawned on me; this was Ben's private hangar, with his own personal airplanes and staff? Exactly how rich was this guy?? I wondered in surprise as I stepped down from the car. I spent the next few minutes looking around in wonder at the magnificent edifice that was the hangar. A few men and women hurried about, either going to or from their work deck. I even noticed a handful of smartly-dressed air hostesses, with their navy-blue skirts, and sparkling white shirts. A red bow tied at the neck complimented their classy outfit. These women were living the dream! I muttered to myself. After all, they get to fly around the world, meeting people and making connections, while also being paid. But most importantly, they hav

AnaIt was nighttime and I had just begun to unwind in my luxurious suite, gazing out at Tokyo's glittering skyline, when a knock at the door interrupted my alone-time.Expecting room service or perhaps a concierge, I opened the door, only to find Ben standing in the hallway with an unreadable expression on his face."Yes?" I asked warily.“Can I come in?” He asked, peering over my shoulder, as if searching for something.“Not a chance, Ben. And you know why. Please leave.” I said and turned to go back to the bed.“Fine! I'm sorry, Ana. Can we move on now?” He asked, sounding almost desperate, that I had to turn and look at his face. And when I did, I found out I was right. Ana I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed, the previous night's tension with Ben somewhat faded. Ben and I silently sat down to a sumptuous breakfast spread in the suite's dining area. "Sleep well?" He asked as he poured me a cup of steaming coffee.I nodded, taking a sip. "Yeah, thanks."Ben's gaze lingered on mine, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of warmth. But it vanished almost as soon as it had appeared, replaced by his usual composed expression."So, what are we doing today? When are we meeting the investors?" I asked, breaking the silence."Actually, I was thinking," Ben said, leaning back in his chair, "since we have a free day before the meeting, I could show you around Tokyo."My heart skipped a beat and I accidentally swallowed hot coffee, making my throat burn. “You want to show me around?” I croaked out.“Hey take it easy with your coffee,” he said in a concerned voice when I began coughing uncomfortably.“Thanks,” I croaked out, and nodded, wiping m

Who is Alex? I thought, and then it clicked.
