"Careful enough?"
Though Evelyn was a great warrior, she was no match for a powerful Alpha at his peak, especially when her wolf was now sealed by magic. It took Sisyphus five minutes to dissolve her several attempts at him before he twisted her wrist to her back and whispered by her ear from behind. Evelyn could feel his hot breath tickling her ear, and her body stiffed when his lips brushed against her earlobe. He definitely did that on purpose! Throwing her elbow into his stomach, Evelyn tried to break free, but Sisyphus laughed without even dodging but just gripped her wrist after taking that hit-- "Fierce kitten," Sisyphus let out a light chuckle at her attack, bending his head almost into her neck, "I do like your smell...it's--" Before Sisyphus could dig into his memory further, Evelyn threw up her leg from behind between Sisyphus's legs, forcing him to dodge and therefore let go of her. They said that wolves are sensitive to scents, considering that's how they find their mate, but Evelyn had no idea Sisyphus could go beyond the fog of a strong spell to almost catch her with just her scent! "What a pity," Evelyn dragged Sisyphus's attention back to her with a challenging smirk, "I do wonder if that kick would have triggered an unintentional shift." "I don't lose control, little wolf," Sisyphus sneered arrogantly, "not to pain." Evelyn giggled, the kick she gave him the night when Raymond tried to mark her popped into her mind. Though it stopped his troublesome impulse, his reaction WAS tougher than most men. "No, that pain only helps you gain back control when you lose control to black tulip--" Evelyn laughed, only to gasp halfway through her sentence with a horrified look at the realization that she just admitted to her crime! "I-ughh..." Evelyn stammered, backing up in panic. Nope. No way to save that. "What did you just say?" Eyes suddenly stopped flickering, Raymond pushed forward at her in haste with his eyes nailed on her like a predator, "You-- Careful!" Evelyn turned to run when Raymond got back control and chased her, only to trip over and fall, but Raymond hurried up and caught her by her waist from behind to prevent the fall. Well, he prevented HER fall. Evelyn grabbed his hand on her waist and turned the man that stopped her falling momentum with a hard twist of her body, making Raymond thrust forward still and adding an elbow on his chest as she changed position with him. The result -- Raymond landed on the ground with his back and Evelyn groveled over his chest. "It was you!" Raymond didn't even realize what just happened when all his mind was on the final confirmation he had been waiting for so long, "You are the mysterious girl that night!" "You fell, Mr. Reid," Evelyn forced a calm face, and decided to play dumb to the end. "You--" Raymond blinked in confusion, his hand around Evelyn's wrist tight, not willing to let go as if he would lose her again if she did, "you... I can't believe it WAS you!" "What was me? I don't know what you are talking about!" Evelyn realized the students were all staring, and she tilted her head at them warningly, which finally brought Raymond's ration back to the situation. "I'm asking," Raymond sat up, and Evelyn slid down from his chest and landed on his lap, "what did you do after you drugged me?" His voice was low and rough, a shred of boiling fire hidden in there, and Evelyn was having a hard time not drowning in that enchanting voice and worrying whether the rest of the class could hear them. "They saw you fell," Evelyn dodged his question with a grin, stressing, "PROFESSOR." Raymond glanced around before he let go of her wrist and got back on his feet with her. "I only fell to save you, Miss Evelyn," Raymond tried to get back his cool, realizing it wasn't the best place to talk about the question that had been tormenting him for weeks, "I'd hardly call that a win." "Does this mean you are not gonna shift for me?" Evelyn gave him a smirk, backing up. She didn't even realize the distance she put between them the moment she found that Raymond was back. She felt much more comfortable and closer when she was facing Sisyphus. "I'd indulge that if you are willing to own it as a win," Raymond took a deep breath and suppressed all the questions and the need for confirmation when he too, sensed the distance Evelyn put between them. And he knew why. The other night's ugly blowout caused by Edward came back and haunted him, and a strong sense of being wronged washed through Raymond because she was so happy to play with Sisyphus. He was jealous of his own wolf! "Maybe next time then," Evelyn gave him a perfunctory smile before she dodged his stare and backed out of the center of the field. If she didn't even get her wish with the Raymond who spoiled her, she certainly won't get it from the cold Alpha that took her as a whore. The class burst into disappointed sighs when they realized they wouldn't be seeing the great Alpha shifting and naked today, but they didn't know Evelyn was the most disappointed of all. Sadness crawled into Evelyn's eyes as, and she lowered her eyelashes to try to hide them-- Seeing Sisyphus today, Evelyn only understood one thing: Raymond didn't refuse her request last time because his wolf was too dangerous to meet her. He simply didn't want to. Maybe he didn't want to do that with a wolfless, or maybe he just didn't want to share that kind of intimate experience with her. Either way, she already knew the reason behind that because he literally told her-- He was waiting for his mate, and on top of that, he did not want to be with her. She was just the silly little sister of his best friend who he indulged and saw as a sister, that was all. The class ended soon after, and so did Evelyn's smear hope of being with Raymond that kindled a little this time when she came to his city.Except Raymond didn't deny Evelyn that request because any of those reasons. He denied it only because Sisyphus wanted to claim Evelyn as their mate even though she was underage--
Evelyn was the only one who kept the memory of the time she and James and Raymond spent together, yet she was oblivious of one thing, one thing that Raymond had never told her and could never tell her before --Evelyn was Raymond's real mate.
He recoginized her as his mate the first time he ever visited James's pack, but he couldn't claim her when she was underage. Evelyn confessed her feelings to Raymond that same summer, having no idea how thrilled Raymond was when he was told that his little underage mate fell in love with him even before she could feel the mate pull.
That was why Raymond told her to wait for her true mate, and why he told her he was doing the same.
He couldn't let her know she was his mate when she was only 16, because he knew how painful it would be to have your mate by your side when you couldn't have them. He thought it would a pleasent surprise for Evelyn when she came to age.
Evelyn felt like HE was the one indulging her and kept her happy when she never knew -- Raymond was the one feeling guilty of secretly enjoying the little closeness they shared when he had to keep the secret about her being his real mate all to himself.
But everything changed on that day two years ago, and the last thing Raymond said to Evelyn on that day, was to make her promise that she would find him his mate.
He needed her to come to him after his memory was sealed.
Raymond has been working overnight for days.[Eve, why was the big bad wolf working late again last night? I miss him!] Willa nudges Evelyn in boredom, demanding. Like Evelyn missing Raymond, Willia misses Sysiphus and maybe more. The spell's breaking restored the memory of Scarlett, James and Raymond, and Evelyn suddenly got all her family and friends back with no life-threatening risk hanging over her head. But that isn't the case for Willa. She is clean like a newborn baby and the only one she knows now is Sysiphus. Not to mention, Sysiphus adores Willa like no one else. Willa would only talk to him and Evelyn, not even Raymond.Things were so great for a month or two after Sysiphus marked Evelyn, but then he suddenly got busy, and so did everyone else. Though they see each other at breakfast, that had been their only chance to see each other in a whole day.[I'm sure we can see him tonight, it's Friday after all,] Evelyn rubs her forehead, getting a headache from the baby that had
Raymond came early. He didn't dare take more people against Killian's request, but he sent men to monitor all the mages in the city when he came to the warehouse hours early and lurked around. When it was reported to him that several important members of the coven disappeared, he knew something was wrong. So he woke up Sysiphus and came close to the house, only in time to hear Killian's words.Killian: "I can explain..."But Sysiphus wasn't in the mood to hear.[You can't go in rage right now!] Raymond was watching Sysiphus carefully in his mind, ready to take control at any moment, [I told you she would be in a bad condition, and you--][I have learned my lesson, Raymond, I won't lose it. I went into deep sleep because I was worried about the witch's mate bond spell, but not now when I see my mate with my own eyes.] Sysiphus answered calmly, his eyes landing gently on the white wolf floating in the air.The shade of cocky that had always been in his voice was gone, replaced by an earn
Killian persuaded Ava to use the same warehouse where she peeled off Mathilda's wolf.He saw real fear in Ava's eyes and he knew to Ava, the moon goddess truly existed and that Ava really believed she wouldn't be protected in that warehouse by her goddess. But why stains two places on the earth when she obviously enjoyed peeling off wolves, right? She might do more in the future. This logic persuaded Ava.Right now there they were. Ava and Killian, standing in the dusty, empty, abandoned warehouse, with Evelyn between them in a magic bubble, covered in burnt scars, barely alive. There was only one beam of moonlight throw the window, and Killian put Evelyn right under it.Ava kept her distance -- she had developed a moonlight-phobia since Mathilda. Killian glanced at his watch before he bowed to Ava: "Would you want me to do the honor?"Ava shook her head. It was so scary last time, and she couldn't even imagine how she pulled that off all on her own. But this time she felt a frantic
For four days straight Evelyn was kept in a magic bubble, naked.Fire would burn her skin crispy before ice froze her limbs. Then again, and again. Until she was at the edge of death, and that was when the mage guarding her would heal her wounds to prevent her death. And then a new cycle of fire and ice.Every day Ava would come visit Evelyn with only one question: where is your totem?Ava saw Evelyn's power. It was a much more pure and strong magic than anything Ava had ever seen. Maybe Killian's was stronger, but his power wasn't as pure.Ava wanted Evelyn's power. She had been stealing from Evelyn all her life -- she stole Evelyn's mother, father, identity...Everything! Why not this one more thing? Sara stole Scarlett's power successfully! But Evelyn wouldn't budge. Even at the edge of death she never begged. There were a few times when Evelyn tried to take her own life, and Ava had to add more men on guard just so they wouldn't kill Evelyn by accident.Evelyn really wanted death.
Midnight, a warehouse.Killian stood in the darkest corner of the warehouse where Mathilda's wolf was peeled off her, waiting.Raymond slipped a piece of paper into his collar when Raymond grabbed his collar before punching him in the face. He only realized that when Raymond patted over it. On the note were these words--[Midnight, THE warehouse]Even now Killian was still shocked at how far Raymond really could see.Raymond saw through Ava's whole plan when he didn't even have magic! He tricked everyone when he accused Ava of the crimes Evelyn was supposed to have done, so they all thought Raymond was only there to clear Evelyn's name when--What Raymond wanted was to meet Killian without anyone's attention! The depth of Raymond's plan made Killian's blood run cold. Once again he felt fear for what an awful enemy Raymond would be.No doors moved, nor any windows. But suddenly Raymond walked out from a shadow into the center of the room. His head held up high and he was looking at the
Ava never loved Raymond, but it didn't mean that she didn't want to conquer him. The man who every girl in the city admired, how could Ava not want him?! But all he ever gave her was insult and humiliation! Finally she got power and she even stole Evelyn from him, but this man just wouldn't submit in front of her! How dare he?!"You kill me now without me accepting your rejection, then you can never have another mate in your life," Raymond threatened with a serious tone, but instead of looking worried, Ava lay back with a cocky smile.Raymond curved his lips."What are you laughing at?!" Ava's face twisted -- the annoying Alpha! She hated his arrogant confidence!"I'm laughing at how simple you are. It's so easy to read you," Raymond shook his head slowly, taunting Ava with a smirk, "I just threatened you with a life of no mate, yet you don't look afraid at all. You should at least act, because now I know--"Ava held her breath without realizing it because she was nervous that Raymon
