But Maleficent saw the fraction of a moment exchange between Gabriel the Faithful and the commandant of the Nether World’s imperial army. Realization dawned upon her, eliciting a deep frown from Maleficent.

‘No! They are not reinforcements!’

From her reaction in which he immediately saw, he pressed his palm on her back. “What is wrong, little Halfling?”  His hand, which was supporting her back, held her waist and spun her for the nth time already since they met at the very center of the arena. He continued when he did not get any answer from her. “Are you hurt?”

On cue, a pair of calloused hand pulled her tenderly. With her cheeks between his hands, he was now staring at his flashing ruby eyes – his right hand still holding his blood-soaked sword. He stared down at her as if he was assessing her inch by inch. His left thumb formed circles against her cheekbones.

Maleficent started up at him, tears start
