I have no idea what to do with my hands or, to be honest, any other part of my body, so I just give him a small grin.
As I greet Mr. Whitlock with a pleasant "Hello," I see Grace is staring at me intently.
Mr. Whitlock mumbles, "Amelia," before taking a step back and keeping his hold on my waist. "I only have an hour, shall we get started?" Lory instantly takes action, directing me to one side of the table and motioning for me to take a seat next to her before taking a seat herself next to me at the table.
She crouchs to the side of her body, slides out a stack of papers, and places one stack in front of me and one stack in front of herself.
When I look up, I find Rhodes is watching at me intently, and I can't help but smile when I catch his gaze. Just then, I saw him reaching into his suit danteil for a pen.
"Okay, Amelia. The contract will be read aloud to all of us, and you and she will have the option to make any changes you deem necessary as we proceed.
She expresses to me that she should be telling this to both of us, but I have a feeling he won't be that flexible. Some issues will be negotiable, but others will not, and we will both need to be as tolerant as possible if this is to succeed.
My heart is racing as I look down at the page, shaking my head and smiling warmly. I'm not sure what any of it means; the first page is just legalese to me. I don't understand a word of it.
"Amelia, you must sign here because this is a non-disclosure agreement." Please continue to the next page." What this effectively means is that you will not reveal to your family, friends, or anybody else how you and Mr. Whitlock met. And if things don't work out between the two of you, you are not to sell your story to any media outlets."
My mouth goes dry as she continues to speak. I had no clue Mr. Whitlock was as well-known as he is, or that he would be worried about something like this. Despite the fact that I do not particularly like how this is all starting, I am delighted that this is included.
She cuts me off before I can finish my idea and ask Lory a question. "It's okay that Poppy knows; she signed a similar piece of paper." I nod and click my ball point pen before signing next to a blue tab at the bottom of the page.
"Just perfect," Lory exclaims as she turns the page of her book, and I do the same.
This page's name gives me the creeps and makes my stomach feel like it's about to explode.
RU T I N E S
"Here is a list of the rules that and Whitlock have given to his previous matches in the past." I force the lump in my throat down and look at Lory for a second before returning to the list:
1. Be on time for all scheduled events and dates.
2. Dress appropriately for the formality of each gathering.3. Make sure your diet and workout program are both healthy.4. You are not permitted to discuss the relationship on any social media platforms.5. Always maintain a high level of physical beauty.6. Under no circumstances should you divulge the nature of our relationship with anyone else.7. Throughout our collaboration, you must always be truthful.
8. When you are at a gathering or event, you should only speak when spoken to.
9.Avoid making public demonstrations of physical intimacy.
10. You will not be offered things in exchange for sexual favors; instead, gifts will be acquired over time.11. Make it a point to be available to others when they need you.
12. Always express gratitude and grace.
13. Only speak when spoken to14. Inquire when you need anything15. Do not cause a commotion in public16. Only exclusivity is allowed. As I run my eyes over the rules, I notice my heart rate increasing dramatically. This is what it is, and this is what it will turn me into.
As a commercial transaction, I am expected to adhere to these principles; otherwise, I will be held liable. This is not a personal relationship; rather, it is a business transaction. He is not my boyfriend or a future partner; he is my boss. I do what he says since he is in charge.
"Any questions?" Lory puts her hand on my shoulder and asks as I continue to look at the ground beneath the rules. She stated that these are his special needs, which are somewhat strict. How many times has he attempted this, and why hasn't it worked?
"Uh the Uh, the healthy diet one.." I begin to question whether he has the authority to tell me what I can and cannot put into my body or what I can and cannot do with it. I think that's true, but after I sign my name on the dotted line, does it truly belong to me?
"There is a list of foods in the back, and you will be provided with a personal trainer," Lory says, and I can't help but giggle as I hastily seal my mouth. This is entirely and completely absurd.
When Mr. Whitlock says, "I need you to be presentable if I am going to take you to events," I raise my head to gaze at him and watch him twirling his pen in between his fingers.
After a brief period of hypnosis, I concentrate my concentration on the page in front of me. I received the idea that he liked the way I looked, yet my heart is starting to sink.
I know I'm not exactly model gorgeous; however, it's one thing for someone to think something about you and not tell you than it is to have someone make you sign a contract promising to change your looks. I nod my head but say nothing, gritting my teeth somewhat and willing myself to stay composed.
It's been a few days since my negotiation at the office with Mr Whitlock, and I haven't heard from him yet. I don't have his phone number so I can't reach out to him until he reaches out to me I suppose, just another way I'm under his control. As per our agreement, I have gone into work today at the
Darren points in the direction of the bus stop, the bus that we would both normally take is only a couple of minutes away. I wave him off, resigning myself to this conversation. I'll catch the next one. "Oh yes it did, thank you so much" I reply and wave to Darren as he walks over to the bus stop w
I slowly pull the ribbon apart and lift open the lid to the box. It's a pair of teardrop shaped emerald earrings; they're incredibly dainty and yet they look so gorgeous. I audibly gasp as soon as I lay eyes on them, they are just amazing. "They call Seattle 'The Emerald City', not because they get
Rhodes seems to have found a new line of questioning. "You do that a lot" He comments as he picks up his utensils and cuts into his fish. "Do what?" I ask after my first mouthful of salad. "You thank people a lot, I saw it a lot the first night we met as well" I shrugs my shoulders and tuck some l
"You have quite a few tattoos" I comment and he follows my gaze, looking down at his arms and shrugging. "I've got quite a few, I got my first one when I was 16. Once you get one they're kind of hard to stop getting, I still have more I want to get one day" I smile and observe them, a cross on the
Rhodes and I are walking back towards his car when he reaches into his pocket and takes out his phone. "What....now? Okay I'm on my way" He curtly speaks over the phone before sliding it back into his pocket. "Somethings come up and I need to get back to the hotel, I'm really sorry" he stops walki
I look like an idiot just standing beside Rhodes, unsure of what to do or if I should even say anything. I don't want to distract him and risk being on the receiving end of a verbal lashing. It takes him a couple of minutes before he looks up and realises I'm still standing there. "Right um, things
"Wanna give one a go?" I suggest to her with a small grin."Might be a bit premature, don't think Max is the marriage type quiet yet" She responds with a quiet giggle, then catches herself as we all stop and gape at her. She hasn't mentioned Max in that context in a very long time. Behind Poppy, Fra
"It's stunning sweetheart, absolutely stunning" My mum comments excitedly as I allow my hands to rest at my sides, my reflection making my heart race quickly. I'm wearing a wedding dress. Maybe not the wedding dress, but a wedding dress none the less. It all seems insane to think that I had spent th
Fran, Bianca and now Sarah are at the racks, perhaps browsing for me or for Fran, who recently moved to London and is flat hunting with her boyfriend Zayn."They have wedding dresses at charity shops? I can't tell if that's bleak or romantic" Poppy comments quietly to me as I sit down beside her."
"You are referred to as exactly what you are, a man, while I am referred to as my relationship to you, a wife. Like the only identifiable thing about me is that now I am your wife but you still get to be a man in your own right" I explain. It's something that's always irked me while watching TV show
"You forget we had sex in a bookstore?" Rhode leans in close and murmurs to me, heat rising on my cheeks instantly. One of my wilder moments I would say."Did not forget that, but I'd rather not have to explain that story to, well anyone" I say with an embarrassed giggle. I definitely told at least
"Please, take it" He states in a soft tone that makes butterflies flit around my stomach. "When?" He adds with a little more urgency."How about, before the years end?" I suggest. It's early October now so going into the colder England months, it's not exactly going to be extraordinary weather but t
"Thank you" I mumble against his lips, brushing my nose against his. His hand lingers on my hip as I come down off of my tiptoes, the wind blowing some of my hair into my face."I'll support you either way, it's up to you" He softly states, his eyes never leaving mine as his hand leaves my hip and t
"Hey, you remember yesterday when we had the family over for lunch?" I say just as we approach the small coffee stand near the fountain at the centre of the park. It's run by a father and son out of a truck that normally attracts a large crowd of locals but today seems a little isolated, supposed we
"To be honest, I feel anxious about taking her out on my own" Rhode states honestly as we wait at the corner for our crosswalk light to turn green. It's a surprising admission that immediately gets my attention."You've never mentioned anything like that" I express as I put a hand on his arm while h
