Kai's POV

My army and I had been travelling for a few days, no one was tired or complaining, they’d been trained better than that and I made sure we had enough supplies to keep us happy and content. No one liked leading a starving and exhausted army. We’d travelled farther and in much worse conditions, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.

We settled down for the night and I waited my turn for a watch-shift. I liked knowing what was going on when I was travelling.

It seemed slightly suspicious to me that the South was beginning to become unstable again so soon. After the last incident, it seemed stupid for them to attempt it again. Then there was also the assassin situation where not only had an assassin somehow found access to the palace, but had actually managed to hurt me.

I could think of plenty of people a hundred times over who might've been involved, but I couldn’t make any accusations until I knew what was going on.

Every night on the road I thought of Alyss

Alyssa's POVIt didn’t take me long to get to the Fire Bone Pack since it bordered on my own, but I took a lot of precautions necessary. I had a hood covering my hair and perfume scattered over my body to hide my true scent.I didn’t have much to go on other than my memory of the maid and the brief discussion about Evelyn that I had with Clara, but I had a plan to find out.Clutched in my hand was my father’s seal which signified he was an Alpha. Typically those seals were given only to family and trusted envoys of the pack if the Alpha was unavailable to deliver news or things himself. Luckily for me, my father hadn’t needed it.So with a deep breath, I followed the path that would lead me to the centre of the pack. The Fire Bone Pack was different to my own, whereas my father took care to ensure all people in our pack lived comfortably, the Alpha of the Fire Bone Pack seemed more concerned with his welfare than that of his pack.As I passed buildings many of them were derelict like

Alyssa's POVShe had no tongue. The woman, Evelyn, who served my stepmother with such loyalty, had no tongue. I couldn’t stop myself from staring at her before she looked around hastily and dragged me inside the house. As quickly as she pulled me in, she locked her door and dragged me to a small living room with only two chairs and a small table. There were some knitting supplies on it and a piece of half-eaten toast on the side. Evelyn lived in squalor as if she didn’t even exist in the pack. It made me wonder if anyone even knew she was here.“What’s going on?” I asked gruffly, feeling uncomfortable being locked in the house with a stranger. She placed a finger in front of me to tell me to wait and shuffled around the room until she found a notebook and pen before gesturing me to sit down.Cautiously, I did as instructed and waited as she scribbled down something in the notebook.Sorry I can’t offer you any food or drink, I wasn’t prepared for visitors.I hadn’t expected that. As Ev

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 45

Kai's POVI managed to get to the Ice Heart Pack quite quickly and Carter had done his hardest to carry us both here. He was panting with shaking legs by the time we got to the territory so I let him rest inside of me as I continued on foot.I didn’t want to draw too much attention to myself because I didn’t know who was to be trusted in this pack or, worse, who was after Elise.I had a hood over my head to cover my blond hair and travelled as inconspicuously as I could throughout the pack. Gradually, I finally found the Pack House where I knew Alyssa lived. The place smelled of her even though she’d only been back here a short while. However, as I reached a backdoor which looked like it led to a kitchen, I felt a presence behind me.With one sudden and swift move I grabbed the knife attached to my belt and spun on the presence, the sharpened edge of my blade against his throat.“Why are you following me?” I growled, pressing hard enough that I drew the slightest droplets of blood to

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 46

Alyssa's POVTaylor stood with a blaze behind him, grinning like a devil and I knew exactly what he wanted to do with me. I’d embarrassed him not only in public but also in front of the Royal Family and in a very public setting where he was expecting to win. Where everyone was expecting him to win. This was revenge. But how did he know I was here?As if reading my thoughts, Taylor purred sinisterly, “If you didn’t want me to find you, Alyssa, you shouldn’t have come so close to the Pack House. Your scent is one I wouldn’t forget for a long time.”I shivered at the thought. I had been careless, hadn’t I? I’d gone straight for the centre of the pack instead of using my head and asking around first. I should’ve known better, especially with how angry Taylor and his father had been. Of course they would kill me and try to cover it up in their own territory.Surprisingly, Evelyn stood in front of me, arms wide as if to defend me. This woman who hardly knew me, who was in danger because of

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 47

Alexander's POVI could see the way Kai was looking at Alyssa, my mate. Caspian growled inside of me as Kai lifted her off the ground and carried her body, but I wasn’t going to wrestle my brother to carry her, not when she was already injured. I could smell the burning from her body, the blood and hear the whimpers she made every time her arm moved too much.If we had arrived any later she might’ve been dead.I tried not to think about that. Because we hadn’t been late. I resented the fact that it was because of Kai we’d gotten there on time. Caleb might have never opened up to me about where she was, but Kai knew how to handle the kid. Kai had gotten ahold of her scent quicker than I had. Kai had raced off, hearing Taylor’s threats before I did.Why was Kai always first? Why was he always so much better than me?Why was I always one step behind him?But Kai had surprised me when he listened and hadn’t killed Taylor despite how much we’d both wanted to, but it was only a matter of ti

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 48

Alyssa’s POVWas it cruel to tell him that I didn’t know? Because it was the truth. I know it would’ve been easier to say “Yes, without a doubt, absolutely, I understand,” but those would’ve been lies.Even now I didn’t understand how he could discard me, his mate chosen by the Moon Goddess for his crown. I was tired of lies. Lies from other people and even my own to try to keep some semblance of peace in the farce my father called a family.Adding to that, Alexander hadn’t spared my feelings the day he rejected me, the day he used his powers on me to bend me to his will. Unfortunately, those wounds were still too open for me to forgive him, even with his apology and confession. But Alyssa, he loves us now, Carys tried to plead in my thoughts and I knew she was thinking of Caspian, the wolf who had protected us from the beginning. If Carys was an extension of me like Caspian was for Alexander I would be more than happy for her to accept her mate, but that wasn’t the case, was it?He

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 49

Alyssa's POVWe had a plan, even though Alexander begrugingly agreed to it, I wasn't taking no for an answer. We began heading towards the Sirius Pack to get some questions. It wasn't too far as the princes rode their golden wolves and Carys took over. We ran fast before stopping just outside of the pack.Carys allowed me to take over again but the golden wolves stayed still at their prince's side."Go through the plan, one more time," I stated, just wanting to be sure we all knew what was going on.Kai rolled his eyes but Alexander nodded, "We enter under the idea that we are on an 'engagement' tour," He started."It's not too suspicious as the Lunas aren't typically formally intodruced to the pack until after the marriage," Kai added."You two distract the pack and try to find some extra information and I'll go straight to Alpha Evan." I stated, feeling more confident with the plan. The boys had both volunteered to talk to Alpha Evan, but it was something I knew I had to do.I was

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 50

Kai's POVI was never one to enjoy the parades that came with being a prince. Being on show with everyone staring at me and thinking I was up for grabs wasn’t my idea of fun. It helped that as I had gotten older my people began to fear me as a General rather than love me as a prince, the scar on my face definitely helped, but Alexander was the opposite. He bathed in the warmth of the attention and lapped it up like a dog.He smiled and waved to our people like he had all the time in the world. He had people crowded around him and was smiling at every word they said and shook hands with everyone we passed. I almost worried that he’d lose track of why we were there. “This is a beautiful pack, Beta, a credit to yourself and your Alpha,” My brother praised, side-eyeing me as if to tell me to play along.I didn’t need his direction, I'd been in more strategy meetings and diplomatic situations than he could imagine. The Beta smiled with pride and bowed deeply, “It is an honour, Your Highne

Kai's POVThankfully, by the time I returned to my camp none of my men had noticed me missing and no one else had disappeared under Leon’s watch. It seemed I was correct in thinking that it was a diversion. The assassins hadn’t been able to find Alyssa and I hoped that she would be safe at home.We had to move further south and Mother Nature was on our side as the wet, muddy terrain was blessed by the sun and things became warmer. No more wringing socks out by the fire or having clumps of dirt caught in fur. But, even though conditions were better, I’d felt more uncomfortable than ever. I had a tarp instead of a cave floor, I had a tent over my head instead of spiders and a warm fire instead of shivering in blankets. But there was something I had then that I didn't have now.Alyssa.Her smile, her laughter, her voice, and her scent were all worth it.But at that moment instead of being with her, I was stuck with burly brutes who hardly knew how to bathe and clean up after themselves.

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 60

Alexander's POV I didn’t know what game my mother was playing but unfortunately, I had no choice but to go along with it if I wanted to ensure that Alyssa stayed safe. Regardless of whether my engagement with Freya was back on, she wouldn’t forgive Alyssa for supposedly coming between us.I was partly to blame for that, I hadn't exactly been subtle with my affection for Alyssa, no matter how much I tried to hide it and squash it into the ground. We sat together in the carriage. I was on one side with Freya holding me, her head on my shoulder as Alyssa sat on the opposite side, her gaze never moving away from the window.I’d give anything to know what thoughts were running around her head. I’d give anything to be able to fix the ones that made her frown. But I was part of the problem. All of this could’ve been avoided if I had just accepted her in the first place.“Aren’t you so excited for the wedding, Alex?” Freya asked, craning her face towards me so that her lips were only a few c

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 59

Alyssa's POVDespite the incident with Freya, the next few days passed peacefully, so much so that Vivian even smiled at me a couple of times. Genuine smiles. With Freya’s engagement to Alexander back on and being planned at the moment, and with Kai being stationed far away in the South for a who knows how long amount of time, Vivian didn’t see me as a threat anymore. She had everything she wanted.A powerful Alpha husband, an heir to inherit that title and her daughter to be a princess and possibly Luna Queen. With Vivian’s change in character, it was clear to me that Freya must’ve not mentioned any part of our conversation to her mother about Alpha Aaron. Either she thought it wasn’t worth the hassle or she was scared that if she told her mother and Vivian retaliated it would confirm whatever she thought I knew.So with the first bit of peace of mind I'd had for a long time, I relaxed. With the wedding preparations taking place, everyone had been neglectful of Caleb who was still on

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 58

Alyssa's POVAlexander was so convincing in his pleas that I almost believed it. If I hadn’t known any better I would’ve thought this display to be genuine and that he'd done this in front of me again just to spite me.I glanced up slightly, having looked away when Freya had launched herself at my mate. My heart stammered as I looked at the passionate kiss and saw Alexander looking right at me.I looked down again.Caleb tightened his grip on my hand. He was still so young that he didn’t understand what a mate bond was or felt like, he barely understood the concept. But even still, my younger brother must’ve sensed that there was a hollow space within my soul and the cause of that hollowness was the man kissing Freya. He squeezed again, letting me know that he was there.I squeezed his hand back and smiled at him.“We should give them some privacy, shouldn’t we?” I said, wanting to get Caleb away from whatever manipulation was happening there.Caleb smiled and pulled me towards the do

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 57

Alexander;s POVThe last time I was alone with Alyssa I’d made a right ass of myself. The last time we were alone I’d confessed to her and she rejected me so being alone with her now I couldn’t help but feel awkward and a sense of longing. I wanted to hold her and beg her to forgive me again, but it wasn't the time. What do you say to a girl you hurt and now are in love with? But I still wasn’t going to give up, not until she gave me a chance.Even if she didn’t I was going to protect her. And not because Kai told me to. I was going to make sure she was safe. We stood just outside of the Ice Heart Pack’s territory line and she gave me a small smile.I ran through the plan in my head again. The plan was that Alyssa would stealthily return to her room. Only two people in the Pack House knew that she had left the pack territory, those two people being a trusted maid and her brother. No one else should’ve expected that she would go anywhere else. She would make herself known and half an h

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 56

Kai's POVI didn’t like leaving things like this. There was an assassin still out there targeting Alyssa who for all I was aware of, may have been following us now, waiting for an opportunity to attack. Then there was this whole conspiracy that Vivian was a part of.How could I just leave her like that? But my duty was as the General of the Skeleton Army and if my father wasn’t already informed I hadn’t been seen at my post, he would about to be soon. I knew what the punishment would be, and it wouldn’t just be for me either. It would be for my squad and possibly even Alyssa too if my father found her to blame.Still, even with all of that in mind, it was hard to just walk away as if nothing had happened. We had only a few minutes before I needed to depart and Alyssa had to sneak home. Alex was to escort her, letting her be seen first before he announced himself and his engagement with Freya was back on. That was part of the plan, but it still didn’t feel right to leave.Even Carter w

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 55

Alyssa's POVI had to take a minute to sit down and think as I finished the last few pages of Alpha Aaron’s journal. It was like he knew that something was wrong. He hadn’t trusted Vivian for a while so why did he allow her to take care of him?Was it because he was too weak to protest? His handwriting showed how weak he was. Or had she threatened to keep Freya away from him permanently? I wouldn’t put it past the woman to do that. And if she had done something to Alpha Aaron, did she have something planned for my father?I thought learning more about Alpha Aaron would help me solve my problems, but instead, I only had more questions that needed answers and only two people alive could answer them. Vivian would never say anything to me about him, but Freya… She wasn’t as skilled in the art of manipulation as her mother.“Where do we go from here?” Alexander asked, his head in his hands like he was in just as much shock as me.“I don’t know,” I replied with honesty as my hope began to d

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 54

Alyssa's POVAlpha Evan left the three of us in his office with the journal. I think partially it was so he could deny things if something went wrong, but mainly I think it was his way of protecting and respecting his dead brother. I couldn’t fault him for that.I sat at Alpha Evan’s desk with the two princes beside me as I peered curiously at the book, stroking the leather and wondering what Alpha Aaron was thinking in his final days.I opened the journal up briefly and saw neat, perfectly cursive handwriting. But unfortunately, I didn’t need the beginning, but the end. So I skipped to the last few pages and could see the illness had left a heavy toll on the Alpha. The once beautiful handwriting was now an almost illegible scribble. Was it because he was so ill he couldn’t write, or something else?“Are you sure you want to read this, Alyssa?” Alexander asked gently. His concern made my heart flutter and Carys hum, but this was something I needed to do. I knew he was concerned about

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 53

Alyssa’s POV“That’s absurd!” Alpha Evan roared.Alexander and Kai requested an audience once they had gathered more information. It was just at the time that Alpha Evan was warning me to look out for my father. I was about to ask more when a servant announced that the princes were here. We had originally agreed to meet in an hour, but they must've found something out to have come straight to the Pack House.Alpha Evan allowed them in and looked at me curiously as the princes both stood by my side, asking if I was okay. When I nodded they started telling us what they knew, but when it came to the supposed abuse of Luna Vivian, Alpha Evan couldn’t contain his anger.“How dare you!” He stood to his fault height, no longer caring that he was in the presence of the princes of his kingdom, “Bring whoever is spreading these scandalous rumours and let them answer to me!”The princes stood firmly, not intimidated in the slightest by the anger of the Alpha. Kai pulled me behind him and Alexand
