Chapter 85

Auteur: Arlo Drake
"What was that all about earlier, then?" Wilson asked.

"I was looking out for you, not because I can't let go of Justin." Serena's eyes widened with urgency as she explained, "There will be trouble if you end up seriously hurting him. It's not worth it for someone like Justin."

Wilson leaned down slightly as he stepped closer to Serena, and she could only retreat until her back was pressed against the wall.

Wilson was tall, and with one hand pressed against the wall, he almost trapped her in his embrace.

The familiar, cool, woody scent lingered in the air between them, and all of Serena's nerves were on edge. She asked, "What are you doing, Mr. Quade?"

"Looking into your eyes to see if you are lying," Wilson replied.

"I'm not lying." Serena widened her eyes and stared straight into his. "Do you see my sincerity now?"

Wilson was rendered speechless. Serena stood rigidly before him with her hands and legs pressed against the wall. She looked like a child being made to stand in det

"Justin, what happened to your face? Did someone hit you?" Mollie widened her eyes in shock the moment Justin got into the car.Justin's expression darkened as he said, "Why don't you yell a little louder?"Mollie fell silent immediately, and then she asked tentatively, "Who hit you?"Justin didn't respond. Mollie thought for a moment and wondered if Wilson had done it. When she saw Justin's face grow darker, she knew her guess had been right. She asked, "Wait… Why did you get into a fight with Wilson?""Stop prying into my business," Justin huffed. "What actually happened between you and Desiree?" Mollie's face immediately dropped at his question. She said, "I honestly don't know. I exchanged a few sharp words with Desiree, and then my horse went wild. I wasn't even scared, but Desiree fell off hers. Is she really that delicate? Perhaps she did it on purpose to get Wilson's attention and pity."Justin said sternly, "It's best not to offend the Stone family. Dealing with Wils

"Justin, what happened to your face?" Jenna had been rambling on and on when she suddenly noticed the bruise at the corner of his mouth.Justin sipped his tea and said, "It's nothing. I just bumped into something."Jenna said, "You should be more careful. As for Candice, what are you planning to do about her? If you're tired of her, then let her go quickly. There's no way we will allow her into the family."Justin's tone was distant. He replied, "I'll take care of it."Jenna's eyes lit up with surprise. Not too long ago, Justin would get angry whenever she brought up the subject. She hadn't expected him to come around so quickly.Jessica, standing nearby, couldn't hide her smile as her eyes sparkled in anticipation.…As they left the Farrow residence, Justin sat in the back seat and handed Jessica a business card. Confusion clouded her features as Justin's next words hit her like a thunderbolt. "Charles Zeller owns a commercial street. I want it.""Mr. Farrow, how can I help

Jacob was amused. "What's going on in your mind? Are you looking to get hurt?""Yeah, my life is too comfortable, so I'm looking for a reason to suffer," Wilson replied.Jacob spread his hands. "I can't say she cared; it was love. She really loved Justin. She had always been following Justin around from the first day I met her. As she grew older, she took care of everything herself and treated Justin like he was her world."To be honest, in the beginning, I didn't think it was for real when Serena left Farrow Corporation. I thought she'd return after a few days, but now it looks like she's really cutting ties for good."Wilson's expression darkened with every word Jacob spoke, so Jacob got even more into it. "Even though Serena has broken things off with Justin, she definitely still has him in her heart. This kind of thing can't be rushed, Wilson. You'll have to give her time.""Well said." A cold smile appeared on Wilson's face, and his gaze shifted to the woman beside Jacob. "Th

A soft and gentle voice called out beside Wilson's ear. He slowly opened his eyes and covered them with his hand. "Quiet. I'm dizzy.""Mr. Quade, I'm sending you home," Serena said several things, but Wilson didn't respond. She decided to simply pull him up and drape him over her shoulder. The moment Wilson felt her soft and warm body against his, he immediately leaned all his weight onto her shoulder, and Serena staggered slightly under him.Wilson felt a pang of guilt and straightened up a bit. He mumbled, "Just hold onto me. I can walk on my own… It's better if you support me; it wouldn't be good if I fell."Serena propped him up, her arm around his lean waist. She slowly helped the "drunken" Wilson down the stairs. She called a cab and took him straight to his villa. When they reached the front door, Serena was confused. She didn't have the key."Mr. Quade, do you have your key?" Serena asked.Wilson kept his head down and remained silent. She assumed he was too drunk to b

Serena declined, "There's no need—""This is a villa district. You won't be able to hail a cab. There are plenty of guest rooms. Pick whichever one you like," Wilson interrupted. He tilted his head slightly, a lazy smile on his lips. "Or are you worried I might lose control and devour you?""That's not what I meant.""Then stay. It's just as well because you can make me breakfast in the morning."Without waiting for a reply, Wilson turned and headed upstairs.Serena hesitated for a moment before following him to the second floor. Then, she chose a random guest room and settled in.The bed was soft and inviting, and she soon drifted into a deep sleep. In the master bedroom, however, Wilson was far from asleep. He stood under the shower, the icy water cascading over his bare skin. Yet, no matter how cold it was, the heat surging within him couldn't be extinguished. His mind replayed the scene on the couch from earlier. He had pinned her beneath him, their faces inches apart. David had no trace of pity. He sent Emma to a psychiatric hospital, leaving her to fend for herself. Years later, she returned, kneeling before him and begging for custody of Jacob.David had agreed. By then, his new wife had given birth to their son, Marcus. As for his withdrawn and sullen eldest son, David had long decided he wanted nothing more to do with him.A sudden sharp pain in Jacob's hand jolted him back to reality. The cigarette between his fingers had burned down to the filter. He extinguished it, his gaze darkening."Jacob?" A voice, tinged with surprise, broke through the quiet.Jacob turned slowly, meeting Natasha's eyes. She stood in the hallway, dressed in a baby blue cardigan, her expression filled with mild astonishment. For a moment, he didn't speak."What are you doing here?" he asked."My father is hospitalized here," she replied. Her words jogged his memory. Natasha's father had gone bankrupt. Driven to desperation by relentless creditors, he attempte

Perhaps it was exhaustion from the night before, but Serena slept through several alarms and didn't wake up until after nine.Startled, she leaped out of bed, hurriedly washed up, and rushed downstairs. Wilson sat leisurely in the spacious living room on the couch, one leg crossed over the other. He seemed to have been waiting for someone. When he saw her, he glanced at his watch. "Still a few minutes to half past nine. No problem. We won't be late if we can get to the company within five minutes."Serena flushed in embarrassment. "Sorry, I overslept.""I thought I'd wake up to the smell of a delicious breakfast prepared by you, Ms. Judd. But instead, the kitchen was as silent as a tomb. You were sleeping so soundly; I didn't have the heart to disturb you."Wilson wore an expression of mock regret. "Truly, I must be the most cowardly CEO in existence."Serena, already accustomed to his sarcastic jabs, remained calm."Well then, Mr. Quade, would you like breakfast first, or sho

Desiree couldn't tolerate another woman stepping into Wilson's world. Even she hadn't been allowed to stay at his place.Serena noticed Desiree's subtle shift in demeanor. Not wanting to get entangled in their matters, she explained politely, "Ms. Stone, Mr. Smith called me last night to pick up Mr. Quade. After I dropped him off, it was difficult to hail a cab near his place, so I had no choice but to stay in the guest room for the night."Desiree's expression finally softened a little. "I'd like to have a word with Wilson alone. You can head inside now," she said.Serena sensibly excused herself. Desiree tugged on Wilson's sleeve. "Wilson, I spoke with my father, and he agreed to let me stay at the Nocturna branch. From now on, we'll be able to see each other more often.""That sounds good," he replied half-heartedly. "You don't seem happy about it.""I'm happy," Wilson said, slipping one hand casually into his pant pocket. "Having another friend nearby is always a good thing

After making a reservation at a seafood restaurant, Serena led a group of people to the private dining room. They had just taken their seats when Serena's phone beeped. It was a text from Wilson, asking, "Where are you?"Serena got up and called him. "I brought everyone out for lunch.""Are you in a seafood restaurant?""How do you know that?""Look behind."Out of reflex, Serena turned around and immediately caught sight of Wilson in a suit standing nearby. His hand was stuck in his pants pocket, and he was still holding his phone to his ear. He greeted her, "Hey, girlfriend."Serena paced to him. "What are you doing here?""I just happen to be here." Wilson walked up to her, hugged her by the waist, and kissed her hair.Seeing the eyes on them, Serena nudged him in embarrassment. "People are watching.""Let them watch. They must be thinking that I'm so lucky to have such a gorgeous woman as my girlfriend.""Can't you be serious for just a day?" Despite what she said

The door at the side swung open with a bang, and Candice retracted her hands in shock. Before she realized what was happening, someone grabbed her hair and slapped her tightly in the face.Dressed in a leather coat, Jenna glared at her furiously.Candice held her face. "What are you doing?""I should be the one asking you that. You keep stirring up trouble. Is the hospital your home? "Why do you keep checking in here every other day? It gets meaningless when you keep pulling the same game."Jenna folded her arms across her chest. "Get back in there right now!"Candice's eyes reddened, and she stormed back to her ward angrily.Fuming mad, Jenna swept her gaze over Mollie at the side. "Why are you dressed like that?""I went out to buy food earlier."Jenna didn't chide her and left after Candice. The doctor stood at the head of the bed with the checkup report in their hand. "We're going out for lunch. Would you like to join us?" Serena invited."Sure," Mollie accepted the invitation. However, her cellphone suddenly started ringing when she was about to leave with Serena. Upon seeing the word "Mom" flashing on the screen, she felt her head throbbing painfully. She picked up the call, and Jenna complained angrily, "Candice is hospitalized again!""Let her be. What has that got to do with me?""Yes, she's not related to you, but the baby in her womb is. Candice is in the same hospital as you. "Maisie said that she's emotionally unstable and yelling at everyone now. Hurry over to her ward and calm her down."Mollie merely felt exhausted at the idea. "I'm… not free now.""What's keeping you busy? Your ward is so close to hers. Go over and check what her problem is."Mollie looked helpless and unwilling, but she couldn't tell Jenna that she had sneaked out of the hospital. Hence, she agreed, "Okay. Serena gathered herself and returned to her dessert store, where she found Willow, Lauren, and Joseph inside. Even Violet and Isaac were there."Aren't you going to rest longer, Serena?" Willow asked."I've rested enough, and I feel fine now. The store will open soon, and I have to oversee everything."Serena checked the equipment in the store and brought Isaac to visit the kitchen.Isaac mentioned that he had guided a few pastry chefs before, and their skills were amazing. To this, Serena expressed that she'd welcome them onboard. She already worked things out with store employees and suppliers, and the process was finalized as well. Everything was going smoothly.A smile spread across Serena's face. "It's been hard on everyone recently. Today's lunch is on me.""I won't refuse since Ms. Judd has offered. I want to have seafood for lunch!" Lauren said.Joseph was equally excited. "I'd like to have lobster!"Lauren rolled her eyes at him. "You're asking for too much!""But I'

Candice was seated on the couch, criticizing her employees harshly. Upon hearing some sounds behind her, she spun her head around in annoyance."Didn't you see the sign hanging outside? We're not open for business today—"She stopped mid-sentence at the sight of Serena's stoic face, and her expression fell. "What are you doing here? You're not welcome in my store!""Here you are." A cold snigger tinged the edge of Serena's lips, and Candice panicked upon seeing it.Yesterday, Jenna had surveillance cameras installed in her villa. Every move she made was watched by Jenna, and it was unbearable for her.She wanted to get out of the house for a stroll but ran into the person she hated the most instead. This was so annoying!A vicious light gleamed past Candice's eyes as she silently cursed Thomas. How could he allow Serena to make it back safely?Serena walked in with her handbag and stopped in front of her. "I have questions for you.""I don't have time for you now.""You know

After returning home, Serena rested for a day. Then, she gave Mollie a call, asking for Candice.Mollie was eating fruits as she replied, "Candice? Why are you looking for her? She's resting and getting ready for the delivery of the baby. "This baby is very important to my mother… but I don't know what's on her mind and why she insists on keeping Candice around."Mollie sighed, and Serena said, "I'd like to meet her.""I'm not sure whether you can meet her or not, but I'd advise you not to meet her now because she is pregnant. "If she encounters an accident, my mother won't let you off. You know how she is. She can be quite a pain to deal with."Mollie added in a whisper, "Why are you only concerned about Candice? You didn't even ask how I'm doing when I'm severely injured.""I heard about it. You hurt your brain and lost some memories.""Why didn't you visit me, then?"A few seconds passed by in silence before Serena answered, "I think… we're not that close. It seems a litt

"I… don't understand what you mean," Lila uttered. What did Damian mean by this? Shouldn't he have warned her, asking her to stay away from Justin and not show up in front of him again?Damian approached her, grinning softly. "Let's make a deal, Lila."…Justin was alone in the private room for a while until Damian returned."Where's Lila? Tell her to come in," Justin said casually."I don't think she's coming.""What's happened?""Beats me. I ran into her outside and saw her going into the lounge in a corner. She looks upset. I think she's in some kind of trouble."Damian took a sip of water. "Are you going to check on her, Justin?"Justin paused for a second before rising to his feet. "I'll take a look," he said and went out.The lounge wasn't far, and the door was slightly ajar when he arrived. Just when he wanted to enter, he heard Lila speaking. Her voice was hushed, and she sounded like she was crying. "I'm really out of wits. Mom is in the hospital, waiting for the m

Damian and Justin eased into casual conversation. As the latter's expression softened, he leaned into the couch and asked, "How's the studio coming along?""It's alright. We're making good progress," Damian answered."Hmm… If I remember correctly, you majored in finance while you were abroad, right?" Justin lit a cigarette. "Why did you switch to information technology after that?""I have no interest in finance." Damian lowered his gaze, hiding the dark look that flashed in his eyes. "Nor any talent, for that matter.""Too bad. You're a bright kid. If you'd followed through with finance, you could manage Farrow Corporation with me," Justin pointed out."Nah, you run a tight ship at Farrow Corporation, and that's good enough," Damian said with a courteous smile. "I'm going to use the restroom."He left the lounge, his gaze devoid of warmth. He had only just exited the restroom when he heard voices coming from the adjacent stairwell.Lila was talking to a woman with heavy makeup.
