Chapter 58

Author: Arlo Drake
Serena rubbed her wrist and slowly stood up.

Gritting her teeth, she straddled Shawn without hesitation.

Shawn's eyes lit up with surprise. "Well, well, I didn't expect you to be so bold. I like it."

Suppressing her disgust, Serena reached out to unbutton Shawn's shirt. He leaned back slightly against the couch, his breathing unsteady, and squinted at her.

"Hurry up!"

Serena's gaze turned icy. Her hand slowly reached for the side table where an ashtray was placed.

The moment she grabbed the ashtray, she swung it down hard toward Shawn without hesitation.

But just as the ashtray was about to strike him, a sudden force yanked her away. Serena's hand slipped, and the ashtray struck Shawn's shoulder instead.

As she tried to get up from the ground, Shawn forcefully stomped on her hand with a streak of madness in his eyes.

"Damn it! I knew you were up to no good, but I didn't think you'd have the guts to attack me!"

Enraged, he kicked Serena hard in the stomach.

She groaned. It f

Jacob listened intently, but he heard nothing."Wilson, I know you're worried, but be prepared. If Shawn didn't take Serena away, we'll need to calm down and look for new leads."Wilson found traces of Shawn in the security footage in the hall. After the event ended, he saw Shawn driving out of the parking lot.Shawn left with his plus-one. The bodyguard behind him was carrying a huge black luggage.Shawn didn't drive far. He found a five-star hotel nearby and immediately checked in.There was a possibility of Serena being stuffed into that luggage, but it wasn't confirmed.Wilson shoved Justin's hand away and spoke with conviction, "Serena's calling for me."He quickened his pace, heading straight to the presidential suite where Shawn was staying.Outside the suite, two bodyguards stood watch. They froze for a moment when they saw Wilson."Hi, Mr. Quade.""Open up," ordered Wilson unfeelingly. The two guards hesitated, clearly nervous, but one mustered the courage to say, "

The room was dimly lit, and the floor was in complete disarray. On the large bed in the center of the room, Shawn pinned Serena down with one hand grabbing her head and the other tearing the fabric off her body.Wilson's expression changed drastically, and an air of brutal hostility enveloped him. Jacob, too, was stunned."Kayden, stay outside the door with them!" Jacob ordered before swiftly shutting the door.Shawn's countenance turned grim as he slowly loosened his grips. In the face of absolute disadvantage, one often gained clarity and remained calm.He pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and hung it over his lips. "You got here early, Uncle Wilson. Had you arrived just a little later, I could've bedded her. You know, you should've—"Wilson strode forward and delivered a punch to his face. Then, he picked up the fallen cigarette and pressed the butt against his arm.A painful scream escaped Shawn's lips. After tossing him aside, Wilson removed his coat as he walked toward Seren

Feeling Serena's dependence on him, Wilson couldn't help but tighten his arms around her. "It's okay. We're leaving now."Meanwhile, Justin had finally arrived outside the door after tailing Wilson. Seeing Kayden, the others, and two imposing figures stationed outside the room, he felt a surge of ominous feeling and urgency to head inside. However, Kayden halted him. Justin's gaze darkened as he roared, "Screw off! Where's Serena?"Kayden stayed silent and merely shot him a cold look, having no intention of stepping aside.Justin's fury was overflowing. "Step aside now, or you'll regret it later!"He was ready to strike when the door suddenly opened from the inside. With Serena in his arms, Wilson emerged from the room and stepped out with wide strides. His black suit enveloped Serena tightly, only half of her side profile visible. The pale skin of her cheek was marred with bruises and fresh blood, making the scene all the more striking.Justin felt his heart stop for a moment.

Wilson was ready to carry Serena inside the hospital but was rejected by her. "I can walk by myself, Mr. Quade."Despite her disheveled appearance, her tone was extremely calm—a total contrast to the fragile and frightened woman in the car. Wilson paused. "Your clothes aren't in the best shape. Let me carry you."He didn't give her a chance to turn him down. After taking her to a VIP ward, he made a phone call. Before long, Willow arrived."I'll step out for now and have Willow accompany you. Call me if you need anything," said Wilson.Serena's peaceful voice echoed in the ward. "Thank you, Mr. Quade.""Recovering is the best way you can thank me now." With that, he turned and left.As soon as the door closed, he massaged his temples.Serena was strong, perhaps a little too strong to the point where it concerned him. He wished she would open up and be vulnerable with him, yet she closed herself off like a clam, concealing her weakest side.Of course, she had shown her deepe

With the report in hand, Willow was ready to seek Wilson when she saw him approaching from the opposite direction with a shopping bag.He immediately asked, "How's she?""This is the result. You can take a look. Luckily, she didn't suffer any bone fractures. Otherwise, it will be a tedious process."Wilson took the report and perused it, slowly relaxing his heavy heart.Noticing the shopping bag, Willow asked, "What did you buy, Will? Women's clothes?""Yeah.""Wow. I can't believe you've picked out clothes for a woman." She teased, "Hey, we've known each other for quite some time. Why have you never bought me clothes?"Wilson cast her a sidelong glance. "Why would I do that for you?""Okay! As if I'd be into your fashion taste!" She stuck her tongue out at him.Just as she prepared to leave, a nurse frantically called out for her. "Dr. Quade, a patient just came in. Car accident and leg injury. Please come and take a look!"Willow worked in the Orthopedics Department, so she

You said your thigh is injured."In the office, Willow sat in her chair; her captivating eyes appeared skeptical as they focused on the handsome man before her.Arthur adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. Despite his blood-stained pants, it didn't affect his air of elegance and nobleness."Yeah, my thigh hurts; it should be a serious injury. My ankle also hurts, and there's slight discomfort in my chest. But other than that, there doesn't seem to be anything else."Joseph stood beside him, looking apologetic. "It's all my fault, Arthur. Had I not acted rashly and engaged in a road rage, we wouldn't have been here now…"Arthur had drunk quite a bit that night, and Joseph didn't let the chauffeur drive. Instead, he wanted to drive Arthur's Range Rover to send him home.On the way, he encountered a road rage incident. He and the other driver chased each other, putting on a show of speed and passion. As a result, they got into a car accident. He was safe from injuries, but because Arth

"You don't believe me?" Willow pinched Arthur's ankle and continued the examination. "You're good. It's swollen because you twisted it, but your bone is fine."She stood up, extended her hand, pried open his shirt, and touched his chest. "Does it hurt?""Not really."What was she touching him for?"No major issues. Just get an X-ray. If there's nothing serious, the director of the Surgical Department will take care of you." She jotted down the diagnosis and handed it to him.Arthur hinted at her. "Am I leaving in this state?"His thigh was still exposed."Got it." Willow removed her white coat and put it over his thigh. "The nurse will change you into a loose hospital gown. You'll probably receive stitches on your cut. I suggest you be hospitalized for a day.""Thanks, Dr. Quade," he thanked her politely, then wheeled himself out. He had just turned to leave when he cocked his head at her again. She was confused. Willow's words hit Ronald's sore spot. He was William's younger brother, and with William's health steadily declining, his sons had proven to be no competition for Ronald. As a result, the entire family had once treated him with the utmost deference. The family was slowly slipping under his control—until William decided to reconnect with Wilson, William's illegitimate son.Wilson wasn't a saint, either. After becoming the head of the family, he outright seized Quade Group from Ronald, undoing all of his years of hard work.Everything he had invested in was in vain, and that was the pain he would carry for the rest of his life."Silence!" Ronald delivered a harsh slap to Willow's face. She was struck so hard that her head jerked to the side.Carmen stepped forward, her expression filled with panic. Joseph rubbed the back of his head and said, "I don't think Serena wants to see you right now, Justin…"Justin's face darkened when he heard this. He was about to snap at Joseph and Lauren when the room door opened.Wilson leaned against the doorframe with one hand in his pocket, nonchalance coloring his handsome face as he eyed the trio bickering in the corridor. "Mind the noise."Justin nearly flew into a rage as he beheld Wilson. "Where's Serena?"A calm, collected voice rang out from the room. "Is something the matter?""Rina!" Lauren ducked under Wilson's outstretched arm and hurried into the room. "Rina, how are you feeling?""I'm fine. I got away with only minor wounds and abrasions, but I am pretty exhausted and ended up sleeping for longer than expected," Serena explained."How are you coping mentally?" Lauren pressed, her eyes wide with worry. Serena was already dealing with enough emotional baggage, to begin with, and the traumatic events of the last two days must hav

Without hesitation, Wilson cupped the back of Serena's head and kissed her back deeply. His kisses were careful and lingering at first, then slowly became passionate and demanding. With one hand holding Serena's head in place and the other gripping her slender waist, he practically hauled her upright and eased her into his lap. His body tightened as the soft curves of her body molded against the hard planes of his, and his system went into a frenzy.Weak as it was, his voice of reason compelled him to end the kiss before things went further. But Serena suddenly moaned in the back of her throat, the sound soft yet catalytic. Whatever trace of reason Wilson found vanished into thin air as he pinned her to the bed and deepened the kiss, his teeth grazing her lips hungrily. He pressed her close, willing all and any distance between them to melt away. The bed rattled slightly beneath them, and the air in the spacious hospital room grew too warm too quickly. The tension between Serena a

Serena put on a fresh change of clothes. In the car, she dozed off in Wilson's arms. She had gone a whole night without sleep, and the events of the last two days took a toll on her mental and physical strength.Serena slept deeply and woke up in the hospital room. The sharp scent of antiseptic filled her nose. She slowly opened her eyes when she heard a soft noise coming from her bedside and turned to find Wilson sitting there, peeling an apple. He paused and met her gaze."Mr. Quade…" Serena began. However, she was interrupted when Wilson clapped a warm hand over her forehead and caressed her skin. "You're not running a fever. That's good.""Didn't the nurse take my temperature earlier?" Serena asked."You knew about that?"She nodded. She had awoken a few minutes ago and was drifting in and out of sleep when the nurse attended to her. She'd felt the latter take her temperature.Wilson pointed out, "So, were you pretending to be asleep, then? You fooled me. I even heard you s

Just as Thomas was about to dunk Serena underwater again, a loud bang cut through the air, followed by Thomas' piercing scream. He clamped a hand over his right shoulder where crimson blood bloomed across his shirt.Serena looked up at the towering cliffside to see Wilson aiming his gun in Thomas' direction. She watched as Wilson shrugged off his jacket and dived into the lake. Behind him, several men took their positions on the cliff.Tears pricked Serena's eyes. She kicked Thomas away and swam toward Wilson with as much force as she could.Thomas snapped to his senses and immediately pushed forward to swim after Serena. However, his wounded shoulder hindered his swimming. "Stop! Come back right now, damn it!"Less than 50 yards separated her and Wilson, yet Serena felt as if they were worlds apart. After what felt like ages, a strong arm finally pulled her into a warm embrace. Wilson held her close and murmured, "I'm here now. You have nothing to be afraid of."Serena breathed i

Despair flashed in Mollie's eyes. Suddenly, someone gripped her wrist. She turned to see Serena staring at her evenly and whispering, "Head southwest."With that, Serena nudged her away before darting out of their hiding place and bolting in the opposite direction."Shit!" Thomas swore upon seeing Serena. He leaped down the hill and ran after her.The blood drained from Mollie's face. She clenched her jaw and ran southwest like Serena told her to. As she ran, tears streamed down her face, and she prayed that Serena would get away safely.…"Damn it! Stop running!" Thomas roared as he pursued Serena.Serena was barefoot and practically flying through the woods. She had always been strong, and her stamina was second to none when it came to running. However, biology became her biggest hurdle, and it didn't take long for Thomas to catch up to her.He pulled her back by her hair and flung her to the ground, using inertia to his advantage. She hit the forest floor and felt her head s

Mollie said weakly, "Go on without me, Serena. I'll only hold you back."Serena hauled Mollie to her feet and reassured her, "We must have shaken them off after running for so long. I can hear running water somewhere. Maybe we'll find a stream where we can clean your wounds."Mollie could tell Serena did not intend to leave her behind. Tears welled up in her eyes.Seeing this, Serena asked, "Why are you crying?""I just feel bad because… I was so mean to you, yet you're risking your life to save mine. I'm a terrible person!" Mollie sobbed."Don't say that about yourself. Compared to your mother and Justin, you were practically nice," Serena comforted her. Indeed, Mollie hadn't done anything terrible to Serena save for a few acerbic comments here and there.Mollie was speechless as she considered Serena's words. She then said, "You sure know what to say to make people feel better.""Come on." Serena looped her arm through Mollie's and gently but firmly guided her forward. Sure

"Don't touch Mollie!" Serena struggled to shield Mollie."Out of my way!" Carl snapped, shoving Serena hard enough that she staggered to the side, lost her footing, and hit her head on the rocks. She blacked out after that. The skinny man's eyes glittered as he said, "How delicate. Hey, Carl, now that you've knocked out this one, can I have her? You already have Ms. Farrow over there—""Get in line!" Carl barked, cutting him off."What the hell? Don't tell me you want dibs on the other one, too!" the skinny man protested."I'm not letting you get a taste of that beauty first! I'm calling dibs on both of them!" Carl snapped. The skinny man was about to say something when Carl silenced him with a deadly glare. A vicious smile curved his lips as he said before leaving, "Fine, have your fun. I'll take my turn after you."Mollie glowered at Carl with wide eyes. "Get away from me! Don't you dare touch me! I'm the young lady of the Farrow family!""What makes you think that'll stop me

The woman's helpless sobbing prompted the other women to start crying and begging for mercy, too. However, their captors couldn't care less.Mollie leaned against Serena, her skin hot to the touch, and rasped, "Serena, let's… run.""We can't," Serena whispered."But if we don't run, we'll be sold off into a rural village in the mountains and never come out again," Mollie countered urgently."I know," Serena said quietly, but now was not the time to make their escape. They wouldn't get far if they ran now.The chubby guy hauled up the woman cowering at his feet and growled, "Stop crying and get your ass up! We're leaving now!"The woman, weakened and howling, refused to budge. The chubby guy grew incensed and slapped her hard across the face. She looked half-dead.The whip-thin man watching this from the side chuckled. "No n

Kayden stood before Wilson and reported the latest updates, "Mr. Wilson, we've sealed all the waterways. We're also carrying out a blanket inspection on all moving vehicles on the expressways, but we've yet to find Ms. Judd.""Got it," Wilson replied as he pulled the car up to the side, his cigarette dangling between his lips. The storm in his eyes matched his foul mood.At that moment, his phone rang. He answered it and heard Andrew announce, "We've caught a suspicious vehicle passing through the surveilled area!""I'm on my way." Wilson hung up and sped toward the police precinct.Andrew showed Wilson the latest lead he found. "The van has raised alarms before, and the driver is our suspect. He goes by the nickname 'Whistle', but his real name is Thomas Garcia. I sent my men after the van after we determined the route. If our hunch is correct, Serena should be in that van now.Wilson stared at the footage of Thomas as if the latter were a dead man.Andrew continued, "And have y
