Chapter 339

Author: Arlo Drake
Gifts were exchanged. Sunny presented a sleek coffee machine, and Harvey a stylish handbag. Damian's offering was a delicate pendant, a golden four-leaf clover hanging sweetly from its chain.

Serena accepted it. "Perfect. I just got a new car. I can hang this inside."

Zoey handed over a stuffed bear. Her expression was indifferent. "This is for you."

"Thanks." Serena glanced at it and instantly recognized the brand—it was from a famous plush toy company.

The bear was over three feet tall. She and Zoey weren't exactly close, but she had to admit, this was a great gift. She had a soft spot for anything plush and fluffy.

"Have you guys eaten?" Serena asked.

Harvey shook his head. "Not yet. Damian was saying your cooking is amazing, so we figured we'd come over and try it for ourselves!"

Sunny nudged him with an elbow. "Serena's been busy all day, and you're really gonna make her cook? We should just go out to eat."

"It's fine. I was about to start cooking anyway. If you guys don

Damian spoke softly. "I think Justin had a falling out with Candice.""Yeah," Serena responded flatly, uninterested.Damian chuckled. "That was a bit personal. Serena, after breaking up with Justin, did you ever consider getting into another relationship?""At first, no. But plans never keep up with change," Serena replied."What do you mean?" Damian asked."Well… I have a boyfriend now," Serena replied.Damian's hands stilled. His grip on the knife tightened, but his expression remained as harmless as ever. "Really? Who is it?""You know him as well. It's Wilson," Serena said. The knife in Damian's hand slipped, cutting his finger. Blood oozed from the wound.Serena frowned. "Are you okay?""I'm fine," Damian said."Good thing it's just a small cut." Serena stepped closer, inspecting the wound. Seeing that it wasn't serious, she let out a small breath of relief. She pulled out a bandage from the drawer and carefully wrapped it around his finger.Damian watched in confusion

Sunny suggested, "You should call Sonia and console her. She must be upset with you after you put your date on hold.""Yeah," Harvey agreed and dialed Sonia's number, but she did not pick up. He scratched his head and said exasperatedly, "She's probably angry right now. Ah, forget it. I'll talk to her tomorrow."Zoey tugged on Harvey's sleeve and urged, "Come on, we've got photos to go through in the studio."The duo bantered as they got into the car and sped off. Sunny watched as they disappeared into the distance, frowning. "Sonia deserves an award for putting up with all this.""Mm-hmm," Damian responded noncommittally."If I have to be honest, I don't think Zoey's a good fit for the studio… What do you think, Damian?" Sunny asked.Originally, Damian, Harvey, and Sunny had agreed to partner up and set up a studio. But then Harvey got Zoey involved, claiming they'd been friends since they were children and that she loved photography, too. He also insisted she was "one of the bo

Serena's patisserie had been overwhelmed with business since its opening, and she was kept on her feet by several huge orders that came in consecutively. Whenever Wilson called her, she always responded with a quick and blunt "I'm busy".Wilson gritted his teeth. "Serena, which is your priority here—me or your patisserie?""The patisserie. Will you stop being so childish?" Serena countered, refusing to indulge in his childish temper.Wilson was so angry by her answer that he hung up. A moment later, he called her again and asked, in a considerably less domineering tone, "Am I your second priority after the patisserie, then?""Yes, you are," Serena replied exasperatedly."Okay. Carry on with your business," Wilson said.Serena fell silent. He was surprisingly good at comforting himself. After meeting with a wealthy woman to discuss a patisserie order that day, Serena suddenly recalled that Mollie was staying in the hospital just around the corner and decided to make a quick detou

Now that Serena had stopped loving him, Justin realized just how little he meant to her. "Are you leaving?"Serena said, "I only came to make sure Mollie was all right.""Wait—" Justin hurriedly stopped her from leaving. "Candice is kept under my watch. When I return, I'll hand her over to the police, along with the evidence of her crimes. She'll either be jailed for life or sentenced to death.""She deserves it," Serena pointed out icily. "I've got a shop to run. Bye."With that, she turned to leave.Justin did not take his eyes off her. He stood unmoving at the door long after she left.Mollie leaned against her pillow and snorted. "Are you going to stand there gawking after Serena all day? You know she's gone, right?"Justin entered the room. "I'm surprised not even food can shut you up.""I'm speaking the truth! You didn't appreciate Serena until she left, so your regret is too little, too late, don't you think? Stop having any funny ideas about her, Justin. She has Wilson

Candice started screaming in the BMW. She was trapped in the driver's seat, and the doors on either side had been wrecked so badly that she couldn't open them.It didn't take long for the police to arrive and forcefully haul her out of the damaged car.Justin approached the officers on duty, and after briefly exchanging pleasantries with them, he gave them the evidence of Candice's crimes. When Candice was hauled away, blood was dripping from her forehead, and her face was as pale as a sheet. She stared at Serena hatefully, bitter resentment written on her face. But Serena was surprised Candice did not lash out at her and instead cracked a hysterical laugh in Justin's direction."Why bother pretending to be a knight in shining armor now? You left Serena first, remember? Did you think she'd care even if you risked your life to save her? Serves you right, Justin! You will never be with Serena in this lifetime!" Candice seethed maniacally.Justin resisted the urge to throttle her on

Wilson scoffed. "You said I was sharp-tongued, yet you're the first to draw blood."Serena glared at him. "You know I was right."A small smile curved Wilson's lips as he agreed, "You described me perfectly."The S-class continued down the road and pulled up outside Serena's patisserie. Wilson unfastened her seatbelt for her but did not move from the driver's seat. She stared at him questioningly. "Don't you want to take a look at my patisserie?""No." He crossed his arms and drawled, "Apparently, I'm sharp-tongued and petty. I wouldn't want to offend any of your customers and cause you to lose business."Serean eyed him speechlessly. She should have known he would hold that remark against her. She said, "Wait here.""Oh, am I supposed to do as you ask? Where's my agency?" Wilson countered wryly."Just stay put, will you?" Serena turned to enter her patisserie after that. When she returned, she was amused to find Wilson's car still parked in the same spot. Nonetheless, she kept

Desiree sat across from Dorothy, sipping coffee as a faint smile curved her lips. "You shouldn't have to go to such trouble for my private affairs and play the bad guy, Dorothy.""Bad guy? Far from it! I'm simply standing up for what is right. You'd be dating Wilson by now if it weren't for Serena. Everyone in our circle knows you and Wilson have been friends since childhood."Also, he owes your family a life debt." Dorothy frowned. "But I'm surprised Wilson, of all people, would fall for a tramp like Serena. Doesn't he know you're the only one good enough for him?"A bitter laugh escaped Desiree. She sighed in resignation and said, "Trust me, it caught me off guard, too. I nearly lost my memory because of him, but he had no problem leaving me for another woman.""Don't worry, Desiree. I'll teach Serena a lesson for being a man-stealer!" Dorothy promised."I know Serena has questionable morals, but try not to be impulsive when dealing with her. She means a lot to Wilson, and the l

In the Nielson residence's backyard, Serena noted that Dorothy had not shown up even though 15 minutes had passed. Just as she rose to leave, a female silhouette slowly approached them.Dorothy crossed her arms, her pink coat wrapped tightly around her as she came up to Serena and Joanna. Behind her trailed several housekeepers. From the looks of it, she hadn't come to discuss a business deal but to pick a fight with Serena. "So, you're Serena?"Serena looked placid as she answered, "Yes. May I know why you had me come over today, Ms. Nielson?"Dorothy made no reply and openly appraised Serena. She had to admit, Serena was stunning. She had the makings of a bona fide seductress, which explained why Wilson was so beguiled that he'd leave Desiree for her."I told you I wanted to order cakes," Dorothy finally snapped. She turned and sank into the rocking chair behind her, looking nonchalant as she drawled, "Go on, tell me all about your shop and your baking selection. I'll decide if y

Serena remembered now. Marcus was born out of David's second marriage.Marcus wheeled the birthday cake toward David. He stopped beside David and grinned. "Happy birthday, Dad! May you have a long and healthy life ahead of you!""Looks like you've pulled yourself together, Marcus," David praised, smiling. He'd never smiled like that when Jacob was around.David paid no mind to Jacob's darkened expression as he pulled Marcus closer and launched into introductions. "Everyone, this is Marcus. He's been majoring in finance abroad and flew home especially for my birthday today!"A few guests at the table recognized Marcus. "Goodness, it's Marcus! I haven't seen him in years! He sure looks different now.""Yes, he looks a lot like a younger Mr. David."Jacob lifted his gaze. "Dad, why didn't you tell me Marcus was coming home today?"David's smile slipped. "You should have known he was coming home, Jacob. You're the older brother, so don't go blaming me for not keeping you up to date

A loud cough suddenly sounded behind Jacob and the others. David was making his way down the stairs with Natasha's help."Mr. Smith," Wilson greeted.A shadow fell over David's face. "Wilson, I wasn't expecting you to come.""It's your birthday today, Mr. Smith. It's only right that I come over and celebrate with you out of respect, wouldn't you say?" Wilson said congenially. He snaked an arm around Serena's shoulders as he approached David. "Mr. Smith, allow me to introduce my girlfriend, Serena Judd."David made a noise of approval. "She's got a decent face and build, that much I'll say. You got lucky, Wilson.""Oh, my luck with the ladies is nothing compared to yours, Mr. Smith." Wilson grinned.Beside David, Natasha looked a little uneasy. She clutched David's arm and asked, "Would you like to sit, Mr. Smith?""Bring me to the couch so I may catch my breath."Natasha did as she was told and helped David to the couch, whereupon they sat.Jacob and Wilson sauntered to one si

Serena wished she could sew Wilson's mouth shut. He helped her put on her clothes and said, "We're going to the Smith residence tonight. It's Jacob's father's birthday."Serena considered her plans for the day. The patisserie was doing all right recently, and she had nothing urgent to take care of. As such, she agreed to be Wilson's plus-one.…Serena and Wilson arrived downstairs to find that Elsa had already prepared a meal for them. Under Elsa's curious and meaningful gaze, Serena finished her food and headed out with Wilson. They dropped by an upscale women's boutique. Serena was about to leave after picking out a dress when Wilson grabbed her wrist. "You may as well pick out a few more outfits now that we're here. With that killer figure of yours, you'll look good in anything."It was still early, so Serena decided to stay and shop a little while longer. It would have been foolish of her to decline Wilson's generous offer of new clothes. She tried on a dozen outfits, and Wils

Waking up late the next day, Serena's eyes slowly blinked open, her thoughts still hazy and unfocused. She stared at the blackout curtains that had been drawn over the window, and the memories from last night flashed through her mind.As the hand on her side gently shifted, a voice rumbled, "Are you up?"Serena hummed in response, her throat a little dry. Last night had been wild; she'd behaved nothing like her usual self. She blushed slightly at the thought.Wilson gently pinched the soft flesh of her waist and kissed her. "Lie in for a bit."With that, he lifted the blanket and got out of bed. The soft glow of the bedside lamp illuminated the room a second later, and he handed Serena a glass of water. "To quench your thirst."Wilson's tone was warm and mild, but the way his alluring eyes fixed on Serena turned his sentence into a double entendre. Diffident, she took the glass from him and had a few gulps of water.Wilson then set the glass down and began putting on his clothes.

Wilson brought Serena back to his villa.Serena was greeted by the feast on the table when she entered the door and noted her favorite dishes among the food. Wilson explained, "When I came home earlier, I told Elsa to make dinner. We'll be eating here tonight."Serena nodded. She took a seat at the table, only to see Elsa Rosenburg bustling around to tend to her needs. She served Serena soup, brought her a wine glass, and even warmly asked Serena if she could have cold drinks.Wilson narrowed his eyes from across the table. "Elsa, if you'd like to take a look at my girlfriend, you may do so openly without buzzing around her like a bee."An awkward chuckle escaped Elsa. Oh, well, so much for being subtle. But could Wilson blame her? He'd only ever brought men home, and this was the first time he'd brought a woman over—and she was his girlfriend, no less!It was a rare sight for Elsa, indeed. Before this, she thought Wilson and Jacob were dating.Elsa stared at Serena for a moment,

Damian's eyes darkened. He strode over to Wilson. "Mr. Quade."Wilson appraised him from head to toe. "What is your purpose of getting close to Serena?"Damian looked baffled. "I've known Serena for years, and we've always been on good terms. What do you mean by that question, Mr. Quade?""The next time you act dumb and naïve, try to be more convincing. Who are you trying to fool when you can't even keep the scheming look out of your eyes?" Wilson drawled.Damian froze, then flashed Wilson a smile. "I don't know what you're talking about, Mr. Quade. Serena may be your girlfriend, but she has the freedom to be friends with whomever she wants."Wilson took a drag of his cigarette. "You sabotaged the security camera at Serena's place previously, didn't you?"Damian's smile vanished.Contempt gleamed in Wilson's narrowed eyes as he added, "Stay in line if you don't want Serena to find out just how despicable you are. I don't want to see you anywhere near Serena after this."With a

Wilson leaned into his seat and waved at Jillian through the screen as he said, "How is that you look younger since the last time we met, Madam Gallagher? And you look so fabulous and festive in that jacket, too. How will anyone tell you and an 18-year-old young woman apart?""You and your nonsense." Jillian laughed at the compliments. She gave him a meaningful look. "Do you know who got me this jacket?""Your old sweetheart?""Piss off!" Jillian snapped. "Serena got me the jacket."Surprise flickered in Wilson's eyes. He chuckled and said, "My mistake. So, it was my sweetheart who got you the jacket. How nice and generous of her; she is far better than your granddaughter. Did you reward her?""Reward her all you like when you get home." Jillian held up her phone and scoffed. "You should know you're lucky to have tricked a lovely young lady like her into falling for you."Trevor was confused. "Wait, are you familiar with Serena, too?""Yes. Our paths crossed somehow, and we beca

"Did you come to talk to me about the shop?" Jillian waved her hand dismissively. "I already told you, you get to call the shots when it comes to the patisserie. You don't have to report back to me on every little thing. Just give me my share of the profits every year."Serena said warmly, "I didn't come to talk to you about work. I just wanted to see you."Jillian went still. "What's there to see? I'm just a little old lady, and we aren't even close.""You did me a huge favor, Madam Gallagher. Visiting you is part for the course." Serena produced the gift bag and said, "I went shopping today and saw this. I thought it'd suit you and took the liberty of getting it for you. Try it on."Jillian glanced at the item in the gift bag. The style and color were to her liking, indeed. "I appreciate the gift. Leave it there.""Perhaps you should try it on first," Serena suggested, taking out the jacket and holding it up. She gently tugged on Jillian's arm and prompted, "Come on, Madam Galla

Jenna narrowed her eyes at Willow. "Your last name is Quade? What's your relationship with Wilson Quade?""He's my older cousin," Willow answered.Jenna's expression turned stormy when she heard this. She despised the Quade family. At that moment, Serena returned with the retail assistant. She had paid for Jillian's present and was ready to leave when Willow clutched her arm. "Help me pick something out."Serena nodded and began looking around the boutique with Willow.Jenna stared daggers at the two young ladies, her mood growing fouler by the second. She said scathingly, "They say birds of a feather flock together. I bet Willow is just as bad as Serena. Did you smell the smoke on her when she walked past us earlier? She must have been smoking outside before she entered the boutique!"Kelly looked offended. "Smoking doesn't mean anything. I was a smoker when I was young, too." She used to be a photographer and picked up smoking due to the stressful nature of her job. She only qu
