Chapter 176

Author: Arlo Drake
With a bang, Wilson shut the door and returned to the couch with Bingo in one arm. Stroking Bingo's furry head, he complimented, "You did well, son."

Slumped on his arm, Bingo purred loudly, as though responding to his compliment.

When Serena came out of the kitchen and saw them in such a harmonious scene, she was a little taken aback. "Why is Bingo so friendly to you all of a sudden?"

"It's not dumb. Knowing that the enemy is here, it stood on the same line with me, and we're close allies now."

As though it understood what Wilson had just said, Bingo meowed tacitly.

Serena needed no explanation on who he meant by enemy, and her face turned a notch colder. "Is he gone?"

"I don't know. Why don't you check it out? Maybe he's standing outside as your door guard."

"I'll skip it." She didn't care how Justin was doing now.

As long as he didn't break the door, she wouldn't check on him outside for a second, even if he slept outside her door.

Wilson's smile fell a little. "Why are you suddenly drawing the line with me today?""After my fever the last time, I've always wanted to tell you this, but I don't know where to begin," Serena said."Oh, that night…" Wilson restrained his expression and approached her.He had chiseled features, and the laid-back look in his eyes was now replaced by a solemn look. "Did my answer from that night stress you out?"The passionate kiss from that night kept replaying in Serena's head, and her eyes flickered. She wanted to avoid this question a little.Wilson held her face gently. "Don't avoid me, Serena. Answer me, okay?"She looked straight into his eyes, which were so deep that she felt as though she would fall into them. If she was ten years younger, she was sure that she would fall for these eyes without hesitation. But she was already 26 years old. She once gave her heart, only to have it ruthlessly trampled afterward. Falling in love again was the last thing she wanted to do."

Wilson ended the call, looking emotionless. Desiree was now in such a state, and Gary was bottling his fury. This incident happened because of him, so he had to vent this frustration on Gary's behalf.Yvonne couldn't have kidnapped Desiree alone. That day, Wilson had taken a look around and found unfamiliar faces around Yvonne. There were also some foreigners amongst them, and he could tell from one look that they were outlaws. This proved that Yvonne had sought out some organization, paid them, and made a deal with them to abduct Desiree. Now that Yvonne was prosecuted, the leader of the outlaws had to pay his price, too. After leaving the neighborhood, Wilson saw a black Mercedes-Benz stopped not far ahead. Seated at the driver's seat, Justin glowered at him solemnly.Wilson held his gaze for a few seconds before turning around coldly, opening the door of his Bentley and climbing in.Slowly, Justin rolled up his window. Seeing that Wilson was out, he could finally relax now. If

Serena lowered her head and sniffed the air around Lauren. "Did you have alcohol?""Yeah, but not much.""Cut down on alcohol. It's not good for the body." Recalling the last time when Lauren was harassed after having too much to drink, Serena frowned. "It's easy to invite trouble after getting drunk. You should protect yourself well.""I got it," Lauren smirked. "Let's go to bed."…The next day, Serena woke up at 5:00 am. Lauren was still fast asleep. She left breakfast for Lauren on the table, packed the cake and macarons well, and left the apartment quietly.Following the address on the order, Serena drove to the suburban area of Nocturna. Eventually, she reached an old mansion. The mansion had a huge yard. Through the fence, she saw many types of plants inside, as well as a vegetable patch and fruit trees. After she pressed the bell, it took a while before a person who appeared like a house helper came out."Who are you?""Hello, are you Madam Gallagher? I'm here to deliv

Erina took a bite, and a look of surprise washed over her face. "It's not bad. That young lady has some skills. She's pretty, and her desserts are delicious."Jillian took a sip of tea. "You must be really hungry."Ignoring her sarcasm, Erina ate one piece after another, growing more fond of the macarons after every piece. When Jillian saw how much she was enjoying them, her attitude took a change. She grabbed a piece doubtfully before popping it in her mouth. It was fragrant, crispy, and delicious. Also, it wasn't too sweet nor too greasy, and the light milky taste was combined with the fragrance of strawberries. It was actually more tasty than the ones made by the so-called superior patissiers.Jillian was taken aback, and when she wanted to grab another piece, Erina closed the box and put it away."I'm saving it for later when I'm free."Jillian was startled. "Put that down.""What's the matter, ma'am?""I was the one who bought the cake and macarons. Where are you taking

With the bag in her hand, Mollie marched up the staircase in frustration. Upstairs, Beatrice had just woken up, and Wendy had served breakfast on the table.Meanwhile, Jenna was seated in the living room with a gloomy look on her face. "Mom, even Justin hasn't been coming home recently, and he stopped calling me as well. You should speak to him on my behalf."Seated on a dining chair, Beatrice ate her breakfast in a refined manner. "Although Justin has a temper, he's not a bad kid. Why did he throw such a huge tantrum with you this time?"It's all because of Serena!"Beatrice frowned. "What has this got to do with Serena?"Wearing a solemn face, Jenna decided to spill the beans. "She fell out with Justin. He set his pride aside to ask her back, but she rejected him. I couldn't stand to see him being so obsessed with her and slapped him in a fit of anger."Beatrice looked up, emotions brewing in her eyes, and took a deep breath. "So, there's really a problem between them. I knew i

In the past when Serena was around, Jenna would look for her in every situation. Even if Justin had accidentally fallen sick, she could also blame it on Serena. At that time, Mollie always stood at the sidelines, watching the situations with glee and never taking them seriously. Now that Serena was gone and Jenna had no one to target, the latter started making a scene everywhere else, leaving Mollie to trail after and comfort her.Mollie cursed silently, thinking that it would be great if Serena would come back.…It was quiet in a private room of a club. Leaning into the back of a couch, Justin spoke gently into his phone, "Okay, I got it. Don't worry."After saying a few words, he ended the call and set aside his cellphone. The noises in the private room resumed. Joseph nibbled on a straw playfully and took sips of wine. "Who were you speaking with, Justin? Why did you sound so obedient?" Arthur asked, smirking."Can't you tell that it was obviously Mrs. Farrow Senior? Of

Justin stared at Lila fixedly for a long while, making her a little nervous. "Mr. Farrow, w-what's the matter?"Arthur grinned. "Justin, you look intimidating right now. You're scaring her," he said and shot Lila a look. "Take a seat next to Justin.""Okay." Lifting her dress, Lila was about to walk over when Justin suddenly said, "Don't bother. Go out."Lila was stunned for a second before leaving the room awkwardly.Arthur picked up his drink and looked at Justin. "She does resemble Serena a lot. Aren't you interested?""Just as you said, she merely resembles Serena, but she's not her. What's the point of keeping her here?"Arthur was quiet for a few seconds and advised, "Give up, Justin.""Are you asking me to give up Serena?""She's not coming back this time. Are you going to be depressed for the rest of your life? Serena already has a new life. You should pick yourself up and start living."Justin's eyes were solemn. Here it came again. Jacob said that Serena was

"Who are you calling lackeys?" Joseph was infuriated. "I'm on good terms with Serena. Can't you set your prejudices aside and speak nicely with me?"Ignoring him, Lauren continued playing drinking games with the guys next to her. She lost, so she picked up her drink and finished it.The men clapped and refilled her glass, their gazes running over her stunning figure. Impatience flashed over Joseph's face. "Get out of here, both of you. Don't have any designs on her."The guys were a little disgruntled, but they noticed that Joseph was dressed in branded goods and even had a streak of hair dyed in blue in front. He looked exactly like a scion from a wealthy and influential family. After consideration, the two guys decided to leave, which made Lauren mad. "What are you doing? Who's going to drink with me now that they're gone?""Stop drinking. Didn't you see that the guys were eyeing you like you're a prey? They're waiting until you're drunk so they can take advantage of you."

Serena remembered now. Marcus was born out of David's second marriage.Marcus wheeled the birthday cake toward David. He stopped beside David and grinned. "Happy birthday, Dad! May you have a long and healthy life ahead of you!""Looks like you've pulled yourself together, Marcus," David praised, smiling. He'd never smiled like that when Jacob was around.David paid no mind to Jacob's darkened expression as he pulled Marcus closer and launched into introductions. "Everyone, this is Marcus. He's been majoring in finance abroad and flew home especially for my birthday today!"A few guests at the table recognized Marcus. "Goodness, it's Marcus! I haven't seen him in years! He sure looks different now.""Yes, he looks a lot like a younger Mr. David."Jacob lifted his gaze. "Dad, why didn't you tell me Marcus was coming home today?"David's smile slipped. "You should have known he was coming home, Jacob. You're the older brother, so don't go blaming me for not keeping you up to date

A loud cough suddenly sounded behind Jacob and the others. David was making his way down the stairs with Natasha's help."Mr. Smith," Wilson greeted.A shadow fell over David's face. "Wilson, I wasn't expecting you to come.""It's your birthday today, Mr. Smith. It's only right that I come over and celebrate with you out of respect, wouldn't you say?" Wilson said congenially. He snaked an arm around Serena's shoulders as he approached David. "Mr. Smith, allow me to introduce my girlfriend, Serena Judd."David made a noise of approval. "She's got a decent face and build, that much I'll say. You got lucky, Wilson.""Oh, my luck with the ladies is nothing compared to yours, Mr. Smith." Wilson grinned.Beside David, Natasha looked a little uneasy. She clutched David's arm and asked, "Would you like to sit, Mr. Smith?""Bring me to the couch so I may catch my breath."Natasha did as she was told and helped David to the couch, whereupon they sat.Jacob and Wilson sauntered to one si

Serena wished she could sew Wilson's mouth shut. He helped her put on her clothes and said, "We're going to the Smith residence tonight. It's Jacob's father's birthday."Serena considered her plans for the day. The patisserie was doing all right recently, and she had nothing urgent to take care of. As such, she agreed to be Wilson's plus-one.…Serena and Wilson arrived downstairs to find that Elsa had already prepared a meal for them. Under Elsa's curious and meaningful gaze, Serena finished her food and headed out with Wilson. They dropped by an upscale women's boutique. Serena was about to leave after picking out a dress when Wilson grabbed her wrist. "You may as well pick out a few more outfits now that we're here. With that killer figure of yours, you'll look good in anything."It was still early, so Serena decided to stay and shop a little while longer. It would have been foolish of her to decline Wilson's generous offer of new clothes. She tried on a dozen outfits, and Wils

Waking up late the next day, Serena's eyes slowly blinked open, her thoughts still hazy and unfocused. She stared at the blackout curtains that had been drawn over the window, and the memories from last night flashed through her mind.As the hand on her side gently shifted, a voice rumbled, "Are you up?"Serena hummed in response, her throat a little dry. Last night had been wild; she'd behaved nothing like her usual self. She blushed slightly at the thought.Wilson gently pinched the soft flesh of her waist and kissed her. "Lie in for a bit."With that, he lifted the blanket and got out of bed. The soft glow of the bedside lamp illuminated the room a second later, and he handed Serena a glass of water. "To quench your thirst."Wilson's tone was warm and mild, but the way his alluring eyes fixed on Serena turned his sentence into a double entendre. Diffident, she took the glass from him and had a few gulps of water.Wilson then set the glass down and began putting on his clothes.

Wilson brought Serena back to his villa.Serena was greeted by the feast on the table when she entered the door and noted her favorite dishes among the food. Wilson explained, "When I came home earlier, I told Elsa to make dinner. We'll be eating here tonight."Serena nodded. She took a seat at the table, only to see Elsa Rosenburg bustling around to tend to her needs. She served Serena soup, brought her a wine glass, and even warmly asked Serena if she could have cold drinks.Wilson narrowed his eyes from across the table. "Elsa, if you'd like to take a look at my girlfriend, you may do so openly without buzzing around her like a bee."An awkward chuckle escaped Elsa. Oh, well, so much for being subtle. But could Wilson blame her? He'd only ever brought men home, and this was the first time he'd brought a woman over—and she was his girlfriend, no less!It was a rare sight for Elsa, indeed. Before this, she thought Wilson and Jacob were dating.Elsa stared at Serena for a moment,

Damian's eyes darkened. He strode over to Wilson. "Mr. Quade."Wilson appraised him from head to toe. "What is your purpose of getting close to Serena?"Damian looked baffled. "I've known Serena for years, and we've always been on good terms. What do you mean by that question, Mr. Quade?""The next time you act dumb and naïve, try to be more convincing. Who are you trying to fool when you can't even keep the scheming look out of your eyes?" Wilson drawled.Damian froze, then flashed Wilson a smile. "I don't know what you're talking about, Mr. Quade. Serena may be your girlfriend, but she has the freedom to be friends with whomever she wants."Wilson took a drag of his cigarette. "You sabotaged the security camera at Serena's place previously, didn't you?"Damian's smile vanished.Contempt gleamed in Wilson's narrowed eyes as he added, "Stay in line if you don't want Serena to find out just how despicable you are. I don't want to see you anywhere near Serena after this."With a

Wilson leaned into his seat and waved at Jillian through the screen as he said, "How is that you look younger since the last time we met, Madam Gallagher? And you look so fabulous and festive in that jacket, too. How will anyone tell you and an 18-year-old young woman apart?""You and your nonsense." Jillian laughed at the compliments. She gave him a meaningful look. "Do you know who got me this jacket?""Your old sweetheart?""Piss off!" Jillian snapped. "Serena got me the jacket."Surprise flickered in Wilson's eyes. He chuckled and said, "My mistake. So, it was my sweetheart who got you the jacket. How nice and generous of her; she is far better than your granddaughter. Did you reward her?""Reward her all you like when you get home." Jillian held up her phone and scoffed. "You should know you're lucky to have tricked a lovely young lady like her into falling for you."Trevor was confused. "Wait, are you familiar with Serena, too?""Yes. Our paths crossed somehow, and we beca

"Did you come to talk to me about the shop?" Jillian waved her hand dismissively. "I already told you, you get to call the shots when it comes to the patisserie. You don't have to report back to me on every little thing. Just give me my share of the profits every year."Serena said warmly, "I didn't come to talk to you about work. I just wanted to see you."Jillian went still. "What's there to see? I'm just a little old lady, and we aren't even close.""You did me a huge favor, Madam Gallagher. Visiting you is part for the course." Serena produced the gift bag and said, "I went shopping today and saw this. I thought it'd suit you and took the liberty of getting it for you. Try it on."Jillian glanced at the item in the gift bag. The style and color were to her liking, indeed. "I appreciate the gift. Leave it there.""Perhaps you should try it on first," Serena suggested, taking out the jacket and holding it up. She gently tugged on Jillian's arm and prompted, "Come on, Madam Galla

Jenna narrowed her eyes at Willow. "Your last name is Quade? What's your relationship with Wilson Quade?""He's my older cousin," Willow answered.Jenna's expression turned stormy when she heard this. She despised the Quade family. At that moment, Serena returned with the retail assistant. She had paid for Jillian's present and was ready to leave when Willow clutched her arm. "Help me pick something out."Serena nodded and began looking around the boutique with Willow.Jenna stared daggers at the two young ladies, her mood growing fouler by the second. She said scathingly, "They say birds of a feather flock together. I bet Willow is just as bad as Serena. Did you smell the smoke on her when she walked past us earlier? She must have been smoking outside before she entered the boutique!"Kelly looked offended. "Smoking doesn't mean anything. I was a smoker when I was young, too." She used to be a photographer and picked up smoking due to the stressful nature of her job. She only qu
