Asher shoved a hand in his pocket, discomfort spreading across his face.

Pressing his lips into a thin line, he seemed to be struggling with a reply.

Violet walked in on them in that awkward position, with Mimi giving him an incredulous look.

“You aren't gonna back out of your promise, are you?” She asked. “Uncle Ash, Daddy must be waiting for us.”

Violet shook her head, helpless.

She stepped onto the balcony and squatted behind Mimi, turning her to face her. “Come on, Baby… do you want your Daddy to see us like this?”

A tiny frown appeared on Mimi's face.

She pursed her lips, not quite understanding her mother's statement. “What do you mean, Mummy? Of course, Daddy would love to see us.”

But Violet sighed.

Hopefully, her tactics would work on her.

Mimi got smarter each day, and she was afraid the girl was going to see through her lies.

“Your knee is bruised due to Mummy's carelessness. Your Daddy will definitely scold me when we meet. Why don't we wait until your wound heals f

Staring at the ring, Mimi puffed her cheeks, her eyes watering up.The girl was really sad.Was she serious about Violet going back to that infidel man?Shouldn't she just tell her what happened?Sigh!Mimi's ears were too young for that kind of information. It could traumatize her for life, knowing that her father cheated with somebody else.“Did Uncle Ash give you this ring behind my back?” She mumbled.Violet's thoughts went back to the events that happened on the Island. If she hadn't been busy exchanging the rings with Asher, Mimi wouldn't have gotten lost in that sandstorm. Then Clyde wouldn't have found her, and it wouldn't have led to all this.Thinking about it brought so many regrets to her heart. If only she could change the hands of time, then she'd take precautions and do all she could to make sure Mimi didn't meet Clyde. “Uhm, you can just remove the ring and then it's over between you and Uncle Ash, right, Mummy?”Mimi's suggestion had her fluttering her eyes in disbel

Violet's expression darkened, his words hitting the right spot directly. She struggled to keep in her rage, controlling herself from yelling. “That's very interesting coming from someone who never wanted her in the first place.” Surprised at the calmness in her tone, Violet smiled when Clyde's scoff sounded. Wasn't he shameless for saying that?If his medications had worked on her, would her baby even be in existence? What right did he have to question her about Mimi's safety? “Whatever you say, Violet Harris…” The man grumbled in a disapproving tone. “Just so you know, I won't allow the same thing to happen again. My daughter stays with me from now on.”The heck!Clyde hung up immediately after saying that.He had to be kidding! No way! There was no way he would just take Mimi from her. She dialed that number again, but he didn't answer the call. Violet was almost consumed with anxiety, afraid that the heartless man meant what he said. When she tried the second time, however,

The security men's grips were too tight, giving her no room for movement.Violet couldn't believe what was happening. Were these people in their right minds? How could they seize her just because she resembled someone who had stolen from them?Wasn't it ridiculous?“Hey, let me go! Let go!” She shouted. But no one was listening to her screams. The customers scowled and the sales ladies looked ready to gang up against her as the bodyguards dragged her in a random direction. As much as she struggled, Violet couldn't break free. And added to the hunger in her stomach, she was suddenly lightheaded from the constant push and pull. “Let go of me!”“Hey, Guys! Stop!” Suddenly, a loud voice sounded. A plump middle-aged man dressed in a dark business suit appeared, striding towards them. “So you have caught the thief.”“Yes, Manager. This lady looks exactly like her,” answered the bodyguards who immediately stopped walking. The man approached, scrutinizing Violet from head to toe.Shaking h

A gold-digger.That word reminded her of a lot of things, especially that day five years ago. Funny how this was the second time someone was calling her that. What an irony that Clyde happened to be present now.Did he also recall that? Was that why he seemed so angry? After all, he'd also labeled her with the same name. The Manager must have sensed the danger also, and he trailed off, his body shaking like a leaf. “M- Mister, please stay out of this. I need to teach her a lesson.”“How about I teach you one first?” Clyde glared at him before moving a finger in the air. In the next second, three bodyguards came inside and grabbed the Manager. “What's the punishment befitting someone who bullied Mrs. Crawford?” He snorted. The bodyguards glanced at each other, and they nodded concurrently as if communicating silently. They started dragging the Manager out whose expression was as pale as a sheet of paper. The man let out a loud scream, bawling his eyes out. “M- Mrs. Crawford? Are yo

~Cursing under his breath, Clyde tugged at his necktie, yanking it off as he returned to the bedroom. The place was empty.Violet must still be inside the closet.Well, he'd think twice before approaching her now.Who knew if another bottle of perfume would be thrown at him? He removed his jacket and then his bloodied shirt and tossed them in the trash. The metallic stench from Cora's blood lingered, and he wrinkled his nose, fighting the urge to belch.Clyde stripped out of his entire clothes. He needed a long warm bath to get the dirt off him. Damnit! He couldn't believe how much blood she had lost. He still couldn't believe that Violet did that to her as well. Stepping into the bathroom, Clyde headed straight to the shower. He turned the tap on, letting the warm water fall on him, the effect gradually soothing his nerves. When he closed his eyes, his mind flashed back to the scene inside the closet. Heaven knew how much he wanted her, and how much he meant his words. The

Violet stiffened up, holding her breath. She dared not to turn back, due to their proximity. His question was out of the blue. Was it even necessary?“State a single reason why I should,” She murmured, staring at his reflection through the standing mirror. For a man who had cheated right in front of her, should there be any other reasons why she should give him her trust? She wasn't a fool. Violet wasn't a kid either. Five years ago, she knew what she saw, and she knew that he already knew she'd discovered. “My relationship with Cora isn't as you think.” Staring at her reflection too, he snaked his arm around her waist, holding her close to him.Violet struggled between ignoring his touch and focusing on his words. Who would even believe that?“Violet…” Clyde went on. “I still want us to be a couple… I mean it-”“I no longer want to be with you,” she whispered. “Is that too hard to digest?”And what the hell was he doing? What the hell was happening?“Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Who are they?”“Who invited these kinds of people?”“Are they beggars?”“Who allowed them in here?”Clyde's eyes darkened, a fit of rage suddenly boiling inside him. He should have seen this coming when his grandfather sounded very happy on the phone. This crowd was too much though. What if Violet and Mimi weren't prepared for this?Wouldn't they scare them off? “Oh, I assure you, Becca, your granddaughter's gonna be a beauty just like you.” His Aunt, Natalie, sat beside his mother, showering praises on her. “I'm just worried that she'll be too smart for her age.”“Isn't that a good thing?” His mother chortled. “My granddaughter must have the best qualities.”“Right!” Clyde’s father butted in. “In the next fifteen to tw

She walked over and took Mimi away from the cunning lady. The little girl only looked more confused, glancing between her and Cora. “Mummy…”“Hey, Dear. Seriously, she didn't know what Clyde was thinking.“But there's food, Mummy…” Mimi pointed towards the large table. “I think Aunt Cora wants us to eat them.”Violet nodded, smiling at the girl. “But Mummy plans to feed you all your favorites. Well, she was more worried about her baby than Cora. Mimi
