Grace was working at the cafe quietly, attending all the customers, and giving them their orders. It was a peaceful evening but suddenly the doors opened. She turned to greet the new customers but was surprised to see Ava and her gang in the cafe. She was shocked to see that they would actually come there and slipped away from their sight. She was squatted behind the counter and asked her coworker to attend them. Her boss saw her and asked her to work properly and go to attend the customers. She got up and took their order. When she brought their order, Harry tripped her and the hot coffee spilled on her hand and a little bit on their clothes. They blamed her for ruining their clothes and being so lousy and called her boss. He scolded her and asked her to work overtime that day. She was sad because she still had assignments to do and this would only make stay up all night. She didn't say anything and just nodded as he ordered her.
The others were laughing at her while Ava was just looking at her quietly, observing her actions but she never did anything and quietly accepted whatever was happening to her. They left after some time and went to the market to enjoy a little bit more. Ava bid them farewell earlier than usual, saying that she had an important work to do and went back to the cafe.
Grace was still at the cafe, working while many others had ended their shift. Her hand was swollen and was burnt badly due to the boiling coffee. She left after her boss allowed her to go. She packed her stuff and walked out of the cafe. Little did she know, Ava was standing in the corner of the street, following her and observing what she did.
Grave went to a grocery store and greeted its owner, they both were familiar with each other. Then she went inside and came outside wearing a worker's clothes. Ava was confused about why she did so many jobs. She just observed her quietly from far away. The owner went somewhere and she was on the counter now. There were fewer customers at night so she studied there for some time. The owner came back to close the store and she left that place.
Grace walked for a long time. It was nearly midnight and Ava was curious about where she was going so late at night. She kept following her from a distance. She reached a building, it had small apartments and looked pretty old. She entered it and the light on the third floor switched on after some time. She assumed that it was her home and went back.
Ava didn't know why she followed her, it was just a curiosity to know what this mysterious girl did in her life and how her life was. She always thought that she was a pushover and was stupid which she was in reality. But she just realized that her dull face had a lot of unspoken words that were buried in her heart. She got curious about her life and started observing her without even realizing it herself.
The next day, Grace was a bit late for college and was scolded by the professor. Ava noticed that her hand was badly swollen, it happened because she had to make the assignments all night. She didn't speak with anyone and just sat at the back without even greeting anyone and they all just pretended like she didn't even exist. Ava somehow felt a little pain in her heart after seeing this. But she couldn't do anything, after all, she had her reputation that she had to maintain.
Grace carried on with her schedule as usual and was somehow not bullied by Ava or any of her gang members that day, even though she walked past them. She felt kinda relieved and left college by the end of the day. At night, she was at the grocery store just like always, for she had to do the night shifts. She was sitting there quietly when an unexpected guest arrived, Ava. She was surprised to see her there but stayed calm.
Ava walked through the aisles around the store. She came back and had an ice pack in her hand. Grace wondered if she got hurt somewhere but didn't dare say anything. She gave her the bill and she paid the amount. As Grace was giving her the balance back, she grabbed her hand and placed the ice pack on it. She hissed at the sudden pain.
"If it hurts then why don't you treat it properly." Ava shouted at her. Grace had closed her eyes because her hand started to throb with pain. Ava came closer to her and stroked her cheek.
"Nerd, why are you so stupid?" She shouted as she slapped her lightly and gave her a painkiller that she had kept in her pocket for she guessed that something like this would happen.
"Why?" Grace asked slowly after she swallowed the pill.
"Pardon!" Ava looked at her carefully that made her heart skip a beat.
"Why are you here?" Grace asked again and looked away.
"Cause I know you work here." Ava said and sat on the counter.
"How?" Grace asked a bit loudly for she hadn't told anyone about her jobs.
"I mean how do you know this?" She said and her voice lowered with every word. Ava smiled as she found her cute and bent closer to her.
"Cause I stalked you nerd." Ava whispered slowly to her. Her heart started beating fast again and she avoided eye contact.
"Why?" Grace asked as she coughed.
"Can't I? After all, you're my nerd." Ava said as if she was talking about something that belonged to her.
"Why do you keep calling me a nerd?" Grace whined in a tiny voice.
"Because you are one." She stated.
"But I have a name." Grace pouted and Ava smiled as she never thought that the girl whom she bullied every day could be this cute when she was pissed.
"And what is it?" Ava asked in a calm voice.
"Grace." She said and was looking away. Ava extended her hand and pinched her chin, making her turn her head.
"Okay, my dear Grace." She whispered as she looked straight into her eyes. Her face turned red and she pushed her hand away.
"Are you blushing, nerd?" Ava said as she laughed.
"NO!" She shouted and covered her face which was as red as a tomato.
They both talked for a long time and it didn't seem like there wasn't much of a difference between them. Grace couldn't study at all that day but she was a lot happier than usual for two reasons, first, her crush finally talked to her, and second, she just made a friend after a long time. She laughed a lot with her and Ava found her cute and innocent."Why do you do so many part-time jobs?" Ava asked her as they were leaving the store."To make a living." She replied straight away."Don't your parents give you money?" Ava asked and found it a little strange."No, but they do ask for it sometimes." Grace said and had a smile on her face.Ava stopped walking after hearing this, she was shocked after knowing the amount of pressure she had to bear."And why do you study so much?" Ava asked her with a blank face."So that I can get a scholarship." She replied as she turned around. Ava was a little awkward for she didn't know how to react n
A guy was standing at the gate and as Grace came out, he stepped forward and hugged her. Ava felt frustrated, she couldn't understand why she felt upset when she saw her with someone else. She walked away from there followed by her other friends."Lucas! What the hell are you doing?" She said as she pushed him away."Can't I hug my sister?" He said in a teasing voice that sounded disgusting to her."You know I don't like it." She said and started walking."And you know I love creating trouble for you." He said and started following her."I just wanted to check if you were dating anyone, but you aren't, cause no one came forward to push me away." He said and she was stressed out, already because of Ava and now he also came to increase the stress."Why are you here?" She asked him in a frustrated tone."I need money." He said, turned his head towards her, and continued, "Mom told me to take it from you.""You know I don't have su
Ava ran around that area to find Grace but she was nowhere to be seen. She got tired after running for a long time and started walking slowly to catch her breath and didn't know where else to find her when suddenly she heard the sounds of someone sobbing. She followed that sound and it led her to a dark alley. She used her phone's flashlight to see clearly and saw Grace squatted on the floor, leaning against the wall and crying uncontrollably. Her knees were bruised, her hair was messy, her eyes red and feet was swollen. She rushed up to her and wiped away her tears."Oh, Grace are you okay?" She asked as she caressed her cheek but she didn't reply and just hugged her tightly. Her heart skipped a beat but she hugged her back and just caressed her back to calm her. Grace stopped crying after some time and pulled away from the hug. Ava whipped her tears away and smiled at her softly, a smile that seemed to take away all her pain."Nerd, you made a mess of yourself by cry
"Open your shirt." Ava said with a straight face and Grace was shocked. She backed away a little and her face started to burn up."Are you blushing?" Ava asked and came closer to her face. Grace covered her face and looked away. Ava laughed and opened the first aid box."I'm just gonna apply for some medicine on your bruises." Ava said and flicked her forehead. She slowly removed her shirt after she kept pursuing her and looked away from her. Ava was shocked as she saw her arms. There were several marks on her body and it seemed as if she had scratched her arms several times. She reached out her hand to touch them but she backed away. As Ava looked at her face, she noticed that she was embarrassed and was on the verge of tears so she took her hand back and applied for medicine on her wounds without saying anything. She applied medicine to the cotton and dabbed it on the bruises. There was complete silence yet they could hear each other's hearts beat like
Grace and Ava were sitting on the sofa afterward for neither of them was able to sleep so they decided to talk for some time. They talked about college stuff and friends etc. Well, it was Ava who was talking mostly and Grace was just listening to her quietly."Grace, do you have a crush on anyone?" Ava asked suddenly and she flinched."N...no" Grace replied immediately. "What about you?" She asked her and was nervous to hear her response."I do actually." Ava said with a smile and Grace's heart dropped. "You know right, the topper from our class, Daniel. He's so cute." She told her and she nodded with a smile, although her mind was in a mess. "But I don't dare to tell him yet." She added."You should tell him, maybe it'll work out. Grace suggested and she smiled."Let's watch a movie," Ava suggested after some time."We have to go to college tomorrow." Grace reminded her."Oh yeah, you'll go there with a broken foot," Ava said sarcast
Ava became kinda busy after that day and didn't visit Grace that often but she used to call her every night to ask if she was fine and if she needed anything. Grace always gave her a positive response and never complained about anything for she didn't want to depend on her too much. They used to talk for a long time and sometimes fell asleep midway.Grace went back to college after three days when her foot healed properly. She wore a hoodie to cover her scars and because it was kinda cold weather so no one bothered to question her. Ava knew that she was coming and was waiting for her at the gate. For some reason, she asked her to come half an hour earlier."You didn't have to wait for me," Grace said as she reached near her."Here," Ava said and handed her a bag."What is this?" She asked in confusion."Breakfast. Let's eat together." Ava said and suddenly grabbed her hand. She pulled her to the cafeteria to eat their food together there."H
Days went by and Grace used to hang out with Ava and the others at college and sometimes they used to visit her at the cafe. She became pretty familiar with them and didn't feel so uncomfortable now.The day of the trip was arriving closer and they all were very excited about it. It was a week-long trip. They were going to the nearby city which was famous for its beautiful tourist attractions. They were going to trek for three days and camp at night. Afterward, they were going to explore the city for two days, and in the last two days, they were free to do anything they wanted, which was allowed because the students requested the organizers, and in the end, they were told to assemble at the given place. They were going to reach the city by bus.The day of the trip finally arrived and they were all assembled at the college, early in the morning, waiting for everyone to arrive. They had their luggage collected at one place and were just talking, Grace and Emily were sitt
The road trip was quite fun, they all were chatting and singing the whole time. The students asked the driver to stop at multiple places to take pictures and short breaks. While they were resting at a place, Daniel, the guy whom Ava had a crush on, approached her and gave her a bottle of water, she didn't refuse and took it. She was quite confused for she found him cute and he was her type of guy but at that point, she didn't feel anything for him. She felt as if something was missing but couldn't figure out what. He talked to her for some time and then went back to his friends.Grace saw this all from a distance and was feeling sad. She thought that she already prepared herself for this but it didn't decrease her pain. She felt a strange pain in her heart that started to break her, bring back all the pain that she kept ignoring. But a part of her was happy for her and she was trying to believe it but that pain kept increasing slowly. The break ended and they we
It had been a year since Cora and Grace had started dating and since the last time they had seen Ava but they still sometimes talked to her. Grace did talk to the trio as well. Emily and Harry were planning to move in together soon. And as for Elijah, he had a boyfriend. Yup, a boyfriend. After college he got a job in a company and started working there, a coworker of his got a crush on him and chased after him and Elijah soon realized that he was bi and started dating him. They both live together now.As for the single squad, Lia and Austin, they tried dating each other and it worked out for they couldn't date anyone else because of their tight schedules but they had the same job so it worked out. Grace and Cora were obviously still dating and Grace was soon going to graduate from college. As for Grace's squad, they still went around complaining about things and Grace had a lot of fun with them. Although Cora didn't like them because Grace loved to hang out with them and thu
There was complete silence in that room for a few seconds and Grace was starting to get anxious for William hadn't said anything. He smiled after some time and looked at her. "There is no doubt that she loves you so much and has changed so much, just for you." He said and smiled softly, which he rarely did. "I do think it is partially our fault that's she's this way (anxious and insecure) and I'm guilty of that. I promised my wife to give my children the best life but I think I ruined it. So if there is a way to amend it, I'll surely do it."Grace smiled and was relieved that everything worked out in the end. Alisa was happy for them and hugged Grace while Oliver was confused but accepted them after digestion of the whole situation.William called Cora inside after that and she was confused to see everyone so happy."You chose the right girl, brat," William told her and she smiled and was relieved."Thanks, grandpa." She said and was on the verge o
They entered the mansion and the guard guided them to where Cora's family was waiting for her. Three people were sitting in that room, her mom, wearing a red dress and looking like an older version of Cora; her father and grandfather wearing formal, looking similar in looks, the way they sat, and the cold expressions. Grace was quite scared of meeting them. She knew that her parents had accepted them but it was only her mom, her dad was just cooperating for he feared that Cora would leave the country and he wouldn't have an heir. Gabe sat silently in the corner, he also didn't like his dad much cause he wasn't even given a chance after he was involved in the accident. Mr. Oliver Abel just put a title of useless on him and pretty much threw him out of the company.Cora took a deep breath and entered the room, holding Grace's hand for she didn't want to run away anymore, she wanted to face her fear and show them who she was, whether they accepted her or not.Grace was re
It was raining heavily, the weather was slowly getting colder and people started going back to their homes. Some were enjoying the rain, getting wet and dancing on the roads. Some were complaining about the weather while others were enjoying it, feeling at peace as if the rain washed away all the negativity. While some were reminded of the dark past and were crying, the rain accompanying their tears.Ava was still sitting in the cafe, alone but was at ease for she had finally moved on. She was able to get out of her lies and accept reality. Unknowingly, Grace had helped her free away from her past. Ava decided to change herself and become a better person. After thinking for a long time, she took a deep breath and she called her father and told him that she was coming back. Her father was surprised and asked if everything was alright. She replied positively and further told him that she would try to be a better daughter this time. He was relieved and happy; deep down he thanke
"But everything happens for the good. I'm happy with who I am now; I can accept myself as I am and I am loving myself which I never did before." Grace said and looked at Ava, her eyes were a little gentler. Ava started to feel more comfortable. "It's better to just move on. Let's just believe that we were just strangers who accidentally crossed paths and it all led to all this chaos. But I don't hate it, I don't blame you either. Cause it was because of all that that I met someone special and who makes me feel like I deserved to be loved, who has made all of my insecurities vanish." She started smiling without even realizing it. Ava noticed it and realized that she had already lost her and there's no use in trying to get her back for it would just hurt them more. The room was filled with silence again but there was no tension anymore. They were relieved for they had told each other everything they wanted. In that silence, Grace found her answer. It was love that she felt towa
Ava was standing right in front of her, holding a bouquet; looked at her as if Grace was her everything as if she had finally found her other half. Grace was startled by what had happened but the very next second she glared at her in anger. She was reminded of all those horrible things that Ava had done to her. Ava was confused to see that sight; it seemed as if something had changed as if the person in front of her was a complete stranger. Grace took a deep breath and walked towards the car, ignoring Ava completely for she didn't want to talk to her, she didn't want all that pain back, she had to protect herself this time.Grace sat inside the car and slammed the door. Cora was getting more anxious every second, but she didn't say anything and just firmly held her hand. Grace squeezed her hand lightly and rested her head on Cora's shoulder."I'm okay," Grace said and Cora smiled faintly. They went back to the mansion and everything became normal in no time caus
It was evening, the whole day had passed but Grace was still not out of that room. Lia and Austin were getting a little worried for she had not eaten the whole day but they could do nothing but wait for her. The evening passed in no time and the night came and the door finally opened. Grace came out, looking lost and gloomy. She ran to her room without even looking at anyone else. They got a little worried for her because it seemed as though she had cried. They tried to call Cora but there was no reply from her side. Helpless, they went back to their rooms. It was past midnight and Cora finally came back, she looked exhausted and tired. Initially, the meeting was scheduled for next week but she preponed it because she didn't want to be at home that day; she didn't want to face Grace because she was expecting a rejection, she didn't have any faith in herself.Grace was sitting on her bed, hugging the pillow, thinking about what she should do next. Her answer could hurt
The sun rays entered the room and fell on the bed, where Grace was lying, looking as pretty as ever. Her hair a little messed up and one foot out of the blanket so that it wasn't too hot or cold. She woke up because of all the sunlight that had entered the room. She turned over and touched the other side of the bed, it was empty and cold. She opened her eyes to see that there was no one, nor on the bed neither in that room. A sigh escaped her mouth as she remembered that Cora was gone away for the meeting. It had been a long time since she had woken up alone, without Cora by her side. She got out of bed after procrastinating for a long time and started getting ready for the day. It was the weekend so she didn't have to go to the college and thus had woken up late and also because Cora was not there, who usually woke her up.She went out of the room and the workers greeted her and gave her birthday wishes. She smiled and thanked them. She went down to the dining area an
Complete darkness all around, even though Grace had opened her eyes and there was pin-drop silence and she stood alone in the center of the abyss. That place seemed familiar even though she could no see anything. Slowly the feeling of anxiety filled her and she froze in place due to fear, not taking any step forward; something didn't feel right, as if it was the silence before the storm. After some time, she could hear a low voice but couldn't tell what it was no matter how closely she tried to hear it. That sound increased every second and she flinched as she understood what it was. It was the voice she heard every time she felt depressed, the voice that told her to die. It became unbearable in no time. She covered her ears but it was of no use."You're useless! No one loves you! You should die instead! A piece of shit! Worthless! Just a burden! Just die!" These words kept repeating and echoing back to her in that abyss. Grace cried and struggled to avoid that- to not
