It was a dull scene with a silent atmosphere. The sun was almost setting but the curtains that were drawn over the windows prevented even the littlest sunlight from entering the home.
Just then, the telephone started to ring violently, filling up the empty furniture-less home. The living room for that matter had just one dusty old couch sitting in the centre with a telephone placed on a stack of boxes.
Upon hearing the telephone, Eliza approached it with footsteps that caused the wooden floor to start creaking. The dust in the room spread all around with Eliza covering her nose with a cloth to avoid chocking on the thick dust filled air.
She picked the phone up and placed it close to her ear to let out a faint “hello” from her mouth. She seemed weak with her face bearing a depressing look. Her hair had lost its shine and was a complete mess. It did not seem that she was the same bright and happy Eliza that ev
Benjamin was restlessly drinking his morning coffee and reading the newspaper. As everyday passed by, the more anxious he started to get for his child. There was till date no news from Shannon about Eliza’s whereabouts. He grabbed the mini calendar from the side table and checked yesterday’s date.He knew that Eliza’s due date could arrive any moment. What should have been a happy day for him, turned out the worst as he feared that Eliza would taken control over his child. He did not want his kid to grow accustomed to Eliza and her horrible ways… instead he wanted to inculcate good values in the child and raise it by himself in order to teach it to not turn out like a cheat like Eliza.Benjamin tapped his feet on the floor as he anticipated Shannon’s call. It was a regular thing for her to call him with an update every morning, but each morning turned out to be horrible with no luck from her side. Sometimes he
After receiving the notification on her phone, Shannon had a smirk on her face as she was certain that Eliza was in labor since she was at the hospital. Finally, her long time of working and researching paid off as she was about to get the baby in her hands really soon. Finally, she would be one step closer to Benjamin.“St. Peter’s Hospital! Step on it.” She commanded her driver to drive at speed to reach the hospital as quickly as she could. While danger was on the way, Eliza was concentrating on the pain that she was feeling. The entire room was filled with her screams as she was being examined by nurse Christine and the doctor.“H-How’s everything-aah!” Eliza asked but could not stop yelling. Every few seconds she had to catch her breath since her body’s energy was directed towards her massive belly and the baby inside.“Even though you did not do too frequent check ups well before during your pregnancy,
Eliza’s heart sunk as her eyes glanced upon Shannon passing by her room in rage. She began to panic, wondering why and what was she doing at the hospital. Everything confused her… she thought she had escape from the miseries of her past life, but it felt like they were coming back to haunt her and mock her, telling her that she could never escape from them. She tried not to tremble in fear, worried that her babies would get disturbed as well so she took a couple of deep breaths to compose herself and her worried mind. Nurse Christine while scrolling through her phone caught sight of a shocked Eliza and sprang up from the couch, adjusting her nurse uniform.“Ma’am, is everything ok? What happened?” she asked in concern while holding Eliza’s hand to comfort her.Eliza turned her head towards Nurse Christine with her eyes popping out of her sockets. “Christine, I don’t know what to do… I’m scared!”
Christine exceeded her usual speed to get Bailey to safety and help Eleanor too get out of harm’s way. She held Bailey tightly in her arms and covered her face from the bright lights of the hospital. She tried not to make the journey too bumpy, fearing that Bailey would start to cry and cause a scene… thus alerting Shannon.Once her eyes got a hold of a room, she opened the door and saw the place completely empty. As she sighed in relief, she placed baby Bailey onto a temporary bed that she made on a baby weighing scale. It was lucky that the scale was a lot bigger, removing the fear of Bailey tossing over. Moreover, she was getting sleepy so it was a perfect opportunity for Christine to hurry up and get Eleanor so that she could be attentive and tend to the both of them in the room.Once she returned to Eliza sneakily, trying to keep an eye out for Shannon, she opened her arms to receive Eleanor.“Is
“Yes, she did. Why else would the security footage that you handle, not show her escaping the hospital with Bailey?” She was furious at the guard as time was passing by the second.“Ok ma’am, I am doing all I can to help you but if you are going to baselessly accuse me like that, f*ck you!” the guard expressed his anger before leaving the room in a fit. Everything was falling apart right in front of Christine’s eyes, leaving her dejected.Christine was heartbroken… she felt disgusted with herself for not being able to save Bailey from Shannon. At that point, Shannon must be long gone with her. The only thing she could do now was to alert Eliza and get the police involved. She knew the news was absolutely going to break Eliza…With a heavy heart, she sprinted towards Eliza’s room and opened the door, revealing her horrible condition to Eliza. Her eyes were swollen, h
Eliza and Christine were shocked and appalled by Tom’s words of abandoning baby Bailey. It was too much to ask of Eliza to leave her own child in the hands of Benjamin and Shannon. She did not want that, it creeped her out just thinking of her helpless baby with them. This was the first time where she did not agree with her dad and decided to go against him. With a firm voice she stated, “Dad, are you crazy? Do you even know what you are talking about? How can you possibly think I could leave my baby with those selfish and vile people? Do you not care about your granddaughter?” a series of questions escaped her lips in frustration. Her eyes constantly glanced at the moving hands of the clock. The passing time was killing her as no progress was being made to find Bailey.Instead of backing up his daughter and supporting her, Tom stood firm by his words and decided to explain a little to his daughter, “Eliza, you may th
It had been five whole years since Eliza had given birth to her two young precious princesses Bailey and Eleanor. She imagined spending her life bringing them up beautifully into fine women, but it seemed that the universe had quite different plans for Eliza and the twins. Nothing happened the way she wanted it to with her having to give the ultimate sacrifice a mother could give which was to give up one of her daughters for the sake of the other.Though it was not easy, she managed to face it and carry out the decision of doing so. But the guilt of it would remain with her forever. One day did not go by when she regretted ever giving her baby away… she would always wonder who her baby thought her mother would be. She wondered what lies Benjamin fed into her head but at the same time enjoyed living with Eleanor.Eleanor was considered the most cute and sweetest child that Eliza every laid her eyes upon. She always listened to her mom
Eliza came up to the back and opened the door of the car to release Eleanor from her seat. The atmosphere was filled with the laughter and chats from the little kids entering the school and leaving their parents behind. Amidst all the laughter and joy, Eleanor was the only one with a gloomy cloud over her head. She was reluctant to leave her mom and face the dreaded place called school where people knew no sympathy. Being just five years of age, the amount of stress that Eleanor had was too much and Eliza was committed to get rid of it once and for all. “Baby, what happened? Let’s go… remember the promise?” Eliza bent her knees to reach her height to try and get the fear out of her. “Ok mommy, I’ll try to stay positive.” Eleanor tried to keep her spirits high after Eliza unbuckled the seatbelts and let her onto the ground. She passed on a short blink as an assurance that everything will be fine as she extended her hand to get ahold of Eleanor’s tiny hand. With small steps, they f
Long after his exhausting night, it was finally the next morning. Benjamin woke up at the command of his usual early alarm. He was punctual and did not require to hit the snooze button even once. He dressed up in his normal business attire— a blue suit, before walking downstairs towards Bailey’s room. It was his morning routine to go ahead and wake his little daughter up and prepare her for school. However this time, his eye caught a glance of Eliza and Eleanor’s room that was located adjacent to Bailey’s. He contemplated whether to greet Eleanor a good morning first but he somehow felt that he should go ahead with Bailey. After all, he did recall how stressful last evening was. Bailey’s doors were opened, allowing Benjamin to witness his daughter surprisingly out of bed before his arrival. He was amazed by what he saw… so much so that his face tightened as his mouth stretched with a gasp. “Bailey? Is that you?” He asked, still maintaining his previous look. Bailey, who was
“Would you mind explaining yourself, Benjamin?” “Why was that woman in this house?” Eliza spat out critical questions in front of Benjamin who showed his back to her. The two were in contrasting states with Eliza being extremely furious and demanding while Benjamin was calm and cool. “Answer me, Benjamin.” She walked right up to him and placed her right hand on his shoulder in order to gain his attention. Without any warning, once Eliza’s hand touched his shoulder, Benjamin vice gripped her arm and held it behind her back. “Ahhh!” Eliza moaned in pain as his strength was unmatched in comparison to her tiny frame. “Don’t you dare touch me.” Benjamin rebuked her actions with a stern touch in his voice. Eliza knew he wasn’t playing around. He was at the brink of ripping her arm off. “Then tell me under what reason did you allow Shannon here? Why is that demon so close to my children?” Eliza cried out. “The same reason why I’m allowing you to be so close to MY children.” Upon he
Shannon stood rigidly at the entrance of the grand dining room, her gloved hand clutching a bundle of shopping bags, while the other removed her tinted sunglasses to allow the bright light of the room to penetrate her eyes. As her vision cleared, Shannon's heart plummeted with shock as her gaze fell upon none other than Eliza. The tell-tale sign of her surprise was visible through the sudden constriction of her pupils. Her hands, weakened by the shock, could not bear the weight of the bags, and they tumbled to the ground with a loud thud. Meanwhile, her red lips parted in disbelief. "Eliza?" Shannon muttered, feeling lost and unsure of how to react. In the presence of everyone seated at the grand table, Shannon struggled to regain her composure. Everything felt so unreal initially until realisation hit her. A surge of anger coursed through her body as she recalled the years of hard work she had put into getting rid of Eliza for good. Shannon could hardly fathom how her nemesis ha
Eliza did not waste a second before scooping Eleanor in her arms, not breaking her eye contact with Benjamin. She was furious internally by his behaviour that he was displaying in front of an innocent child. “My baby, are you okay?” she asked, breathing heavily while inspecting Eleanor in case Benjamin was rough with her. She knew that whenever anger took over the man, his senses completely collapsed. He wouldn’t be able to distinguish right from wrong and harm the ones he’s supposed to protect. Thankfully, Eleanor was in perfect condition but it was obvious that she was mentally disturbed by the clash between her parents. Once Eliza and Eleanor entered Benjamin’s mansion, memories began to flood Eliza’s mind without any warning. She remembered all the moments she used to spend with Benjamin in each and every single corner of the place. The moment they wanted to commit their lives to each other. A tear trickled down the corner of her eye but she instantly wiped it clean. She d
“Please Benjaminn…. Please give me my daughter back.” Eliza was practically on her knees begging for the safe return of Eleanor. As time passed with Eleanor not by her side, Eliza felt an empty hole in her heart. She didn’t want to fail the only daughter she had left. Getting her back was the only way to mend her broken heart. “You don’t have to beg this prick for anything, Eliza.” “If he won’t co-operate and give our Eleanor back, I’ll make sure his life will be a living hell.” Tom targeted his blood shot eyes at Benjamin with his fists tightening with every passing second. If it weren’t for the security guards, Tom’s anger would have led him into a fist brawl with his daughter’s ex-lover. The atmosphere was silent with tension looming over it. While Eliza and Tom were restless, Benjamin had a cold expression plastered on his face. Amidst the guards, Benjamin began to advance his way towards the father-daughter duo on the other side of the gate. “Sir, what are you doing? Plea
Eliza was devastated seeing Benjamin run off with her daughter. She failed to protect Eleanor after all these years, making her hit herself in the gut. Her face depicted the combination of anger, frustration and sadness that she was feeling internally.Dozens of people passed by her but did nothing to help. They spectated her as if she was putting on some act which made her heart ache even more. ——— “Eliza? Oh my god, what happened to you?” Tom was horrified to find his daughter’s face disfigured with sadness. The tears rolling down her eyes dragged her black mascara with them, staining the rest of her face. Her appearance was night and day compared to what it was when she left the house to spend a day with Eleanor at the mall. “Dad… he… he took her!” Eliza sobbed, her face falling in her dad’s arms. He gently caressed her while bearing a stressed out and confused expression. “Who took who? Eliza? Where is Eleanor?” Tom fretted several questions at her. “B-Benjamin… he took m
Chapter 56“Please stop this Benjamin. I don’t have any energy left to argue with you. Let’s just go our separate ways and pretend we never saw each other.” Eliza said with a defeated sigh. It took everything in her to not break down in tears in front of her ex and children. She did not want to cause a scene in front of any of them. Moreover, she was feeling very emotional after taking a look at Bailey. She recalled giving her up unwillingly to Sharon that day at the hospital. If only…. If only she was not so helpless, she could have had Bailey to herself instead of letting her grow up with a man like Benjamin Clayton. She always wanted to be a role model to her children to grow up to be fearless, independent women but looking at her now, she felt like she failed to do so. “Come on, Eleanor, let’s leave.” Eliza grabbed ahold of Eleanor’s hand and proceeded to leave everything she encountered here behind. Eliza knew she couldn’t let all those years of healing herself be shattered
Eliza couldn’t believe what she was seeing in front of her. The Benjamin Clayton was standing tall in front of her. “Be-benjamin?” she muttered under her breath. Never in these years, she expected to say that name again. Never did she expect to see that charming face once again. He looked the same, except a bit more mature. Eliza was in awe to be so close to him once again. Memories of the cruel treatment that he subjected her to instantly began to play in her mind. The colour on her skin flushed out with the intense anxiety she began to feel, reliving all those painful memories. A lonesome tear began to trickle down her cheek and onto Eleanor’s head. Eleanor was nervous, wondering what was going on in her mother’s mind. Bailey noticed that Benjamin wasn’t even looking at Eliza. He was fixed on Eleanor as if he was seeing a miracle in front of his very eyes. Eliza’s grip on Eleanor’s tiny arm grew tight with fear and sadness taking over her appearance. Her heart began to race r
“You mean you want to bring your mom and my dad together?” “Yes!” Eleanor answered Bailey’s question with an eager face. She was nervous and anxious at the same time as she knew she was very close to finding out who her real dad was. Though it had been long with his absence in her life, it was better late than never. Bailey took in a short burst of air and let out a sigh. She played with her air as she was lost in her thoughts with Eleanor patiently waiting for some sort of reaction from her side. “But don’t you think they’d get upset if we did this? I mean… they must’ve separated for a reason.” Bailey broke her train of thought and let out a crucial question. She knew very well how angry her dad could get. “You’re right… but… this is the only way to get the truth out of them.” Eleanor stuttered in a low voice. Though she was concerned as well, she couldn’t think of any other way. It was either them uniting their parents or all of them acting like total strangers for the rest o
