I run as fast as I could and jumped into the closing door of the subway train. I clenched my fist, threw my gaze outside the window. I saw him watching the train from the distance of more than ten meters.
I turned my back quickly when he smiled, bit his lower lip and quickly wiped his tears with the sleeves of his hoodie.
“Athijha”
“Remember me, baby. Please, baby. Remember me.”
“Jha, if one fucking year is still not enough, then be mad. Slap me again, voice out the curses running in your head, baby. Hurt me.”
I'm literally walking like a rotten vegetable, unconsciously repeating the statements he blurted at that encounter.
I carefully closed the door and leaned on it. My knees are trembling, so I just gave up and let myself fall on the floor.
“Athijha,” I blurted.
He called Athijha, similar to how the kid in my dreams. Maybe, maybe, he remembered our past life? Or maybe he time-travelled to see how am I? Right? But may name in this life is Raeya.
I tearfully nodded, but shook my head when my lids gave up from holding the tears back.
Shit! Who the hell am I fooling? He clearly stated that something terrible happened a year ago! He called me Athijha!
I forced myself to stand up and headed to the drawer containing the files my mother had given me one day when I woke up on my bed with my body aching.
Milton, Raeya Alcazar. That's my name, and it's written on my birth certificate, and it's not fake.
I stared at the piece of paper. Watched it get soak with my tears, reason why my birth certificate's has a lot of blotches. I clenched my fist, not minding if I'll destroy whatever piece of shit with lies I am holding.
I don't know what to believe. I threw the paper and pulled my hair. I covered my mouth to stop myself from creating loud sobs, since I can't control them anymore.
I crawled onto my bed without any strengths but with a heavy heart and a confused mind.
I woke up feeling tired and empty. It's already ten in the morning. My parents are probably off to work by now. No chance to talk to them. I stared at my reflection. My eyes are puffy, and my face obviously looks tear-stained. I look like a beggar.
I went to the toilette, did my morning routine. My eyes are less puffy now, and I look presentable.
I am wearing a simple white long sleeves and an acid black pencil skirt four inches above the knee paired with four inches, black pumps. I pulled my hair up and tied it in a messy bun style.
I put some makeup on to cover my dark eye bugs. I badly need a work.
I confidently walked on the street like no one's watching. Ugh, I suddenly want to be a runway model. I wasn't hired in the first, second, third and fourth company when I did my best to answer their stupid questions. I can't remember that job interviewers asks such offensive question.
“I ever I'll hire you as my new secretary, are you willing to be laid by me?”
Like, big iww! That dork looks even older than my grandfather! Is he even aware that he looks like a corpse who rose from his tomb just now?
And I remember answering, “How about you, old hag? Are you willing to die and become your wife and child's meal? Though, I'm sure your dog will be the one to benefit the most. Fucking skeleton.”
Damn, when I was out of their building, I laughed my ass out like there's no tomorrow.
I enjoyed my lunch in that small eatery. Filipino cuisine really tastes great! Their caldereta tastes like freaking heaven in hell!
I sat on the bench right across the last company I have in mind. I watched the people come and go. I was about to line up when the rest of the employees left. I bit my lips, I guess I came too late. I finished my burger before I stood up.
I was about to walk when I felt my phone vibrated from my pocket.
Mom calling…
“Mom? Why did call?”
I was about to head to the subway station when I remembered what had happened hours ago.
I gulped and booked a cab instead. Just after I closed the cab's door and my eyes darted on the black Porsche a man was leaning on it, it'the same man I met last night. I'm not certain, but it feels like he's looking at me, feels like he's trying to melt me with his melancholic eyes. I looked away as the cab moves on.
Furthermore, I shoved that thought away and just minded the things I should.
“Oh my gosh, dad!” I screamed. I run and jumped to hug him. “I'm so proud of you!”
He chuckled. “Oh, you should, Raeya. Your father just got promoted.”
“Then, am I allowed to join the showbiz?” I playfully asked, but hopeful for a positive answer.
“Hmm, is my daughter planning to ruin the mood?” He retorted with a pout.
Ouch.
“Dad, I'm just kidding. We've talked about this a lot of times, right?” I let out a short laugh.
He nodded. “That's my girl.”
“So, where's mom?”
“Are you lost, darling? I was just in the kitchen, preparing our dinner, my husband, and my daughter's favorite meal,” She proudly presented her well-designed meal on a silver platter.
We, me and my dad, clapped in glee.
“Bon appétit” We said in chorus.
“Mom, this is delicious!” I complimented, well, dad agreed.
“Chill, people. It's just me,”
We laughed like there's no tomorrow. We talked about random things we usually ignore since they're busy. I'm glad they made time. We sang at the karaoke machine and bet on our scores. Freak, my highest score is just 93, but dad got a perfect score! He doesn't even know how to do falsetto!
“Yaaah! That's not fair!” I pouted.
“Come on, darling, accept your defeat. Your father's better when it comes to singing.” Mom teased me.
“Better luck next time, Rae.” Dad winked at me and laughed annoyingly.
I pouted.
“You guys are such a bully. You should be babying me, I'm your only daughter.”
“Aww, our baby's trying have us guilty. Come on, give us a hug.”
I pouted and slowly walked towards them. We exchanged I love yous. This is such a very great moment.
“Rae, darling. Come home before six, okay? Your father's just got promoted,” She squealed and so did I. “I'm cooking California Taki, okay?”
“Oh my gosh! I'm going home now,” I fixed my things and started walking in a fast pace. “I'm hanging up. Bye, mom. Love you.”
I stared at the box on the highest compartment of the shelf. I just decided to clean my whole room and dispose things I can no longer use. I pulled a chair and placed it near the shelf. I took the box, and it's somewhat surprising that it's not that heavy. I was about to get down when I lost my balance.“Ahh”I shrieked. I closed my eyes and felt the box flew out of my hand. I landed on my buttocks, and it hurts like hell. I gently caressed it and opened my right eye.I hissed. It hurts, especially when I stood up. It feels like my bones just got dislocated. I groaned when I saw how much of a mess that single stupidity has made. Everything that box contains is located everywhere in my room.I picked up the piles of papers
I ran. I ran away from them. I want to get away. I can't stop my tears from falling. I can't even clearly see my surroundings. The heaven sympathized with me. In justmoment, the clouds cried cats and dogs.I screamed my heart out until my voice break. I fell on the damp, empty street.“Why? Why, of all people out there, you chose me to be in this situation?” I hugged myself. “Am I that bad? Did I step on other people's dignity?”I laid on the cold street and let the heavy drops from the cloud hurt me. Because I feel so empty right now."Please, tell me the reason why because I can't recall, I don't know what to believe. I want to blame it all to someone
When I reached our home, mom and dad came rushing and hugged me tight. I hugged them back and cried on their shoulders."I'm sorry," I muttered between the sobs.Mom gently caressed my hair and dad kissed the top of my head."Shh, it's normal, darling. We're sorry too. We shouldn't have kept you away from the world, from your family," She cried with me. She cupped my face and looked straight into my eyes. "Listen, it's okay if you're leaving us. It is okay if you're going back to your family. We've talked about this already. We're setting you free."I pulled her into a tight hug like I never want to let go."Don't throw me out. Forget what I've said yesterday. Mom, keep me with you,"
"I love Cleandra, Jha. She worth the world to me." "But I love you. I love you, Exiquel!" I almost lost my voice when I screamed. He looked at me with a shock expression and shook his head like he can't believe what I just said. "I won't go against our family's decision, Quel. I'm sorry. I have been so selfless my whole life, let me be selfish, even if it's just for now. I love you." I groaned when the sunlight hit my eyelids. I removed the wet towel on my forehead and sat at the edge of my bed. I massaged my temples when it throbbed a little. I looked at the door when it opened. "Daddy," I called with a hoarse voice. "Are you
I opened my eyes. The luminous moon greeted me. It is so beautiful that it even had me captivated. I looked at the man who saved me."What the hell are you thinking?" He asked in mixed emotions.Quel. I called him at the back of my mind. I looked at the moon, this will be the last, I faced him and offered a one genuine smile."Hey, the moon is beautiful, isn't it?" I uttered, not minding his scary aura."Athijha!" He exclaimed while I just smiled."I just measured how deep the ocean is when the moon is too beautiful for me to resist." I answered. He remained sent so went to the deeper part again.
After few minutes, my partner arrived. At first sight, I doubt we'll get along. He has this flirtatious aura and he looks like an innocent demon. Shit, what the hell am I thinking? "Come on, strike a pose..." He pulled me by my waist and touched my face. "You're beautiful, Miss Athijha," He whispered but I remained smiling at the camera even though I want to punch him straight into his eyes. "Make it more seductive," "Shit!" I placed my hands against his chest and he was about to touch my bare legs when someone pulled me and hid behind like he's protecting me. "Don't touch m
My heart suddenly stopped for a second then it raced like it's in a marathon. Butterflies held a party in my stomach and my mind turned haywire. I was unable to speak and was just staring at the screen of my phone. "Athijha? Love are you still there?" Reality knocked my head. "Y-yes, I'm sorry. Why'd you call?" I stuttered. "Love, you're uncomfortable." He concluded. I don't know if it's just me but I feel like I heard a pang of pain ih his voice. "No, I'm not," I denied. But yes, I feel uncomfortable because you're giving me sensations that put my mind in a whirl! "You're stuttering whenever you're uncomfortable, love." I gul
When we arrived, I just stared at the enormous mansion and my instict stops me to go any further. If this was my home before, then why can't I feel any comfort. Why do I feel like burning and just suddenly wanns run away from here? It took him about ten minutes to pull me to get in the mansion. We were greeted by expensive furnitures and patterns that screams elegance. Me, entering this place gives me the feeling of de ja vu. Maids bow their head whenever they see us. Why do I feel like we're some sort of royalties? Quel was about to knock on the door when it opened and revealed a sophisticated lady who looks years younger than us. "Exiquel," She greeted.
"Clea," Exiquel called right after I jumped out of our car. "Are you hear to play with me again?" He asked.I smiled then waved at him. "Of course, what else could be the reason I am here?" I asked.I witnessed how my father treated Athijha and she witnessed how hard it was for me too. My sister and I was there for each other but we never had the power to save each other. We were exposed to tons and tons of crimes at such a young age. We were exposed to killing and smuggling, all for the mafia. And even if I want to deny it, Athijha and I were also victims of our father's craziness. My hatred towards this family grew that I even did the most stupid mistake. I used Athijha as as shield just so I can enjoy my life.I started feeling envious towards my sister when I found out that we have different fathers. And I always wished I was her because even if she's an illegitimate child, her real dad is not like mine.I'd always cry myself to sleep after dad's done with his business with me.I'
"Why... why didn't you do it?""I don't know what to say to that person," She replied.I felt enraged towards the person she's talking about. He must hide under his mom's skirt once I find out who he is because curse the ground he's standing on to. I will definitely hunt her until he wishes he died before he could meet me.She was mumbling something but it's a little vague and faint."What? Sorry, Assia, I didn't catch it," I said. Her jaw almost fell when I said that. I wonder what's wrong with her.She laughed nervously and then shook her head. "I didn't say anything. Ha ha ha," She averted her gaze and then smiled a little. "I just find the crowd a little uncomfortable."I chuckled. "Still not used to the crowd, huh?"Something hasn't changed. "I guess I could never get used to it," She whispered in the air.I presented my hand. Her eyes traveled from my palm, up to my shoulder, and then to my bluebell eyes. A smile which reached my eyes crept on my lips as she stares at me with t
"Then I'll just go back to my s-," Before she could even finish what she was saying, I grabbed her arm.My brows are furrowed. "Nope, you're not going anywhere. You're staying here with me."She just want to tease me and damn, love, it's working! She closed her eyes. She sighed and smiled as if she's planning some mischievous things again and wants me to be a part of it.She tugged the hem of my shirt. "What?" I asked."Will you go with me?" She asked in a flirtatious manner.I looked around. "Where?"She smiled a little. "To the cliff, of course.""No," I said which made her brows furrow."Why not?" She asked."You just want to escape this party and just don't want to hear their farewells," I replied and crossed my arms. "And what are you gonna do there? Just stare at the moon or something?"She made a face then stepped on my foot."Stop sounding so sarcastic. And it's better to talk with my son than hear their farewells and shed a tear in the crowd. So, if you don't want to come wit
"Do you feel okay, little sis?" River asked. She tried to reach up for her brother's hand as her eyes starts to water. "Kuya," She called, almost voiceless. "Kuya," She repeated in much clearer voice. She calls her Kuya, huh? It is a Filipino word which refers to your older sibling with a male gender, I suppose. Damn, I guess I really did miss a lot of things.River chuckled a bit then drove his wheelchair to his sister's side.I gulped when I witnessed I Ath... Assia pulled her brother in for a hug."Your eye," She mumbled as she hide her face on River's shoulder."You're thinking that I've gone blind, are you?" She nodded in response. "My eyelid was just grazed by a knife. It's just a small cut.""What if you go blind in tge following years because of that?" Assia asked."I'm glad you're still as silly as fuck," River said then let out a burst of a loud laughter. "Good morning, little sis."You're not really hurt, right?""Yeah. I caught a bullet with my leg though.""Well, you're a
"Good evening, my lady. You look gorgeous like always," I said with a smile when she opened the door."And you are annoying as always," She said then rolled her eyes. "Can I leave this bouquet here? I have a feeling that I might destroy this by slapping you with it out of annoyance.""Harsh. But sure," I took her hand and kissed it. "Shall we go, gorgeous?"She nodded. "Sure."I never knew that 4 kilometers ride is too short for us to stay in car together. Damn the time."Quel, do you know me?" She asked out of nowhere. My forehead creased. "What do you mean? Of course, I know you, Athijha.""What if my name is not really Athijha? What if it is Clea?" She joked then chuckled a bit. "Don't get me wrong, okay? What if I am just her copycat and the real one just happened to tell me everything about her life?"I smiled. "Then you copied her perfectly. Your mannerism, the way you frown, your smile, and your laugh. It perfectly matches hers. But I can never forget how her eyes look. That is
It seems like she's havinf the urge to hit me with her bag she held herself back. "Why are you insisting that I am still your wife? You signed the divorce papers back then, Exiquel." She said.I smirked. "Oh, that? I didn't want to let go of you so I retrieved it when you left. Then I burned it together with the copies you prepared."Her jaw dropped upon hearing that. "How dare you put my money and efforts to waste?"I laughed. "Don't worry, wife. I'll give them back to you, twice. Even a million times if you ask. Anything for you," I replied then wiggled my eyebrows."What if I do something unforgivable? Are you still willing to do that?"I chuckled. "I'll always be on your side, little girl," I shuffled her hair."Exiquel," She called my name."Hmm? What is it, wife?" I asked. She took a step forward. "Do you still remember something I do?" She asked then took another step. "To the moon and back?"My eyes widened upon hearing that. My eyes shone with an unreadable emotion that keep
I visited the pavilion I built to commemorate the faded existence of my child.I'll bring Athijha here for some other time. When I got home, I decided to give her a call.[What is your problem, again?] She said as soon as she answered the call."Are you home?" I asked.[And why should you know?] She retorted with sarcasm. "You didn't text me so I got worried. Are you home? I'm heading there," I said, making up reasons just so I can hear her talk.[No, I am not. I just left. And I don't really see any reason why you should know.]"Because I am your husband," I responded in a proud tone, giving her a hint about what I did.She scoffed. [No, you're not.][Yes, I am.] I insisted.[Shut up, Exiquel. We're divorced. Stop insisting we're not separated, you dumbass.]"Or not," I chuckled.[Whatever you say. I gotta go. There is something important I have to do. Something more important than you,] She said then dropped the call. Then she found out about what I did. She kept on ranting about h
I felt how she got frozen on the spot when I planted a soft kiss on her forehead. I smiled at the back of my mind.I missed doing that."You're being considerate of my feelings too much again. I can handle myself, you know. Go on, love. Sleep now. I'll leave you here alone now. Goodnight, my love."I was wakened by terrified screams from the other room.Chill washed through my body when I realized it was my wife."No, son, no! No," She screamed."Athijha," I called in panic. She's still asleep and covered with sweat as she cries in her sleep."Fuck! Athijha, wake up!"She gasped for air then opened her eyes widely. She touched her cheeks and then brushed the tears away as I cup her face."Fuck! Are you okay, love?"She looked at me who's looking at her with my eyes filled with fear and nervousness. She held onto my wrist then tilted her head. "Quel," she called my name."Yes, love? What is it? Did you had a nightmare?" I asked in a worried manner."Love," She uttered our endearment th
She went out if the car and was about to guide me out but she doesn't really have to do that anymore. I jumped out on my own."It's okay, Jha. I am not drunk anymore," I flashed a smile. "You're back in here again."She nodded a little. She may not be aware of this but the way she acts while looking at the place that's used to be her home says how uncomfortable she is."You should take my car on your way home. It's dangerous," I said."No, thanks," She declined."Athijha.""No matter how much you put authority and warning in your voice, you can't order me to use this since I left my friend's car at the parking lot of the restuarant in front of the club where you drowned yourself."I took a remote out of my pants. "Then might as well spend the night here instead of going home at this hour."I walked in and didn't even dare to look back because I know that she'll choose to walk away and go with the first option I had given her.As I shower in the bathroom of her old room, my feet felt c
