I had missed dinner last night. Death was the only natural occurrence that felt unnatural. The concept of here one day and gone the next felt like an unfair deal due to its unpredictable terms.
Though death seemed unfair, I knew it was necessary. For all good things cannot live forever, for they would seize to be good and turn wicked with time.
But this death was unjust. He was just a boy and seeing the first friend I made here dead just minutes after speaking with him left me stumped.
Death followed me like a shadow sometimes taking away people I loved and leaving me whole to witness the carnage and heartache. For a long, while I had come to the conclusion I was cursed only to have the packs Oracle Reuel laugh in my face, and Reuel never laughed.
These thoughts were consuming and due to being stuck in my head recoiling back into my shell of numbness, I had missed breakfast. Besides, the thought of food had my stomach clenching. I was simply not hungry.
According to the school, Seth's death was the result of a heart attack. For a skinny lanky boy like Seth who looked as healthy as a horse, it sounded unbelievable that his heart would just fail him.
The lecture room door opened and in walked one of the Valentine boys. It was the boy that looked like he had a chip on his shoulder. The boy with the light brown hair and nasty glares." Mr. Valentine," the professor stopped his introductory speech on evolution. "Just because your father is the headmaster of this establishment it does not excuse your tardiness young man."
The boy smiled coyly. "I was with my father sir," he responded in a fluent English accent. "If you don't believe me you welcome to check but I caution you my father is a busy man and he will not take lightly interruption just because I was ten minutes late to your lecture."
Gina nudged me with her elbow. I tore my gaze away from the scene in front of me most of my classmates were engrossed in. "Who is he?" There was an underlying tone in Gina's voice it almost sounded like she was impressed by his lack of manners.
"Take a seat. Mr. Valentine," the professor seethed and the boy smirked as he walked past him and moved to sit behind me and Gina in the last row of chairs in the room.
The register was being passed around and the professor looked up at all of us. "So we will be starting on darwins theory of relativity to make sure we are all just not here for a good time. Who can tell me what are the five main points of Darwin's theory?" A few hands flew up and he completely ignored them and tapped on the desk of a boy that was sleeping on his bag. The boy woke with a fright and the professor glared and shook his head. "You, tell me what is your name?" He asked and the boy looked around confused causing some kids to snicker.
"Chad, sir."
"Well, Chad I can assure you that this isn't nap time. If you are already feeling the pressure of university I suggest you try going back to daycare where you will be rewarded for napping." The majority of the students tried to hold in their laughter and the professor picked his head up once more. "Someone answer my question before I make you all read up to page fifty-five tonight."
"Darwin's theory explains_" a girl began and Gina handed me the register.
My name was not on the register since I was a last-minute applicant. I wrote my name down. It was an odd name to have but it was the pack's name and we all used it as our surnames.
Obsidian.
I signed next to my name and passed the register back and looked back up to pay attention to the lesson. The girl had already finished listing three of the five points.
I heard the sound of something snapping behind me. It sounded like a pencil and then the chair scraped against the tiles. The Valentine boy stormed out of the class with ink dripping from his hand.
"What's his problem?" Gina whispered.
He was a strange case. "Your guess is as good as mine."
The professor sighed heavily and shut the door. "It seems Mr. Valentine has better things to do today."
Lunch was served at ten am and I still wasn't hungry. But considering my last meal was a banana and a slice of wheat toast yesterday, I needed to put some food in my body.
I sat in front of my tray of French fries in the large dining hall that had circular tables and silver stainless steel chairs. I had only managed to eat half of my French fries, my stomach was not complying with necessity.
"Hey, do you guys mind?" A girl asked and I recognized her from yesterday. The girl with the bronze hair and green eyes, that seemed like a professional on the Dean and his family. Her dark-haired friend was beside her.
"Not at all," Gina gestured for them to sit and the girl sat down with her friend.
"I'm Robin," she introduced herself.
"Alex," the dark-haired one said. She seemed quite unlike the extroverted Robin and began flipping through a small black book.
"So what do you girls think about our resident celebrities?" Robin asked.
I looked up to see her stuff a forkful of salad in her mouth as she waited for our response. "She means the Valentines." Alex sighed and something told me this was a topic she was already bored of.
"Ahh me God," Gina gasped. "May and I 'ave one in our biology class. The guy kind of seems like a total arse if you ask me."
"You probably have Levi. He is a freshman and his siblings are sophomores," Robin immediately clarified, "and besides they are to be a bit bucky," she defended him. "I mean who wouldn't be with this immense amount of pressure on them." She rambled on justifying them and then suddenly she stood. "Crap I forgot my biology textbook back in class. I'll be back," she rushed towards the exit of the dining hall without so much of a second word.
Gina let out a long whistle. "Geez, She is team Valentine all de way isn't she."
"You have no idea," Alex said.
The dining hall suddenly went quiet and we looked around to see the Valentine's walking in. Their faces looked troubled and as usual, they paid no heed to their hundreds of viewers.
They were too involved in their silent arguments. They moved to sit at the table in front of ours and Levi, the boy that was in our biology class picked his head up and glared in my direction. I put my head down wondering if it was because I was staring.
"May, Levi is starin at you," Gina whispered and I looked up to see his eyes were fixated on me, unblinking as his jaw ticked and fists balled.
I looked at him as I tried to ponder what his problem was. I was starting to feel uncomfortable and self-conscious wondering if he was staring because I had ketchup on my face. I touched the side of my face just to be sure and it was clean.
It had become a staring contest but this time I felt scared to look away or even blink. For a second it looked like the under of his eyes darkened. I stood unable to take the intensity of his stare any longer.
"You okay?" Gina asked and Alex looked up at me.
"Yeah, I just need the bathroom." I excused myself and left the dining hall with my bag. I walked to the end of the hallway where I saw the sign for a bathroom.
I slipped into the bathroom and went over to the long vertical mirror on the wall. My face was clear of any food remnants so I slipped into one of the stalls. I did need the bathroom.
As I pulled my pants off and sat on the toilet seat I heard the door open and close. I heard lazy footsteps and then I saw a pair of men's shoes under the stall door, facing me. The person reached under the door with their tattooed hand and snatched my bag.
"Excuse me. If this is a prank-" he walked away and I stood and pulled my jeans back up. I opened the stall door to find no one was there and in the mirror the words, you have ten seconds to run before I change my mind, were written in red.
I walked over to the mirror and found my red lipstick laying in the sink. "This is not funny." I turned and began looking under the doors of the stalls to see if the person was still in here as I looked under the stall something caught my eye and I jumped in fright to see Levi standing behind me.
"You should have run," he said wrapping his hand around my throat.
"Why are you doing this?" I struggled to get the words out. He was crushing my windpipe and I tried with both my hands and all my strength to pry his hands off my neck.
He glared into my eyes. His hatred for me as clear as day. "Because your pack is responsible for my mother's death."
His beautiful face contorted and his eyes turned red as the skin under his eyes darkened as black veins crawled up his cheeks. He hissed flashing a set of fangs. "V-a-m-p-i-r-e," I struggled to say as my blood went ice cold.
I knew I was going to die. It was amazing how my life came full circle. My blood relatives were killed by vampires and me spared just to be killed by them later on in life.
"You human," he smiled, "are you a spy?" I couldn't breathe let alone talk. My head started to feel light at my limited supply of oxygen. He bit into his wrist tearing his flesh and pushing the open wound that oozed with blood against my mouth, forcing his blood down my throat. When he removed his hand I spat the blood out messing his face and clothes with it. I knew what he was trying to do and I'd rather die than him turn me into a vampire. "I want to see how those wolves rip you to pieces after this." He began squeezing my neck again. His grip got tighter and I choked and gasped as I tried to kick and scream.
I could feel my head getting light and my breaths came out shallow. This was it. I was going to die. The bathroom door burst open and his brother and sister ran in. "Levi are you insane!" His brother shouted. "Leave her brother. The girl is innocent in this." Joshua pushed Levi away from me and I fell to the ground gasping for air. I began coughing and droplets of blood littered the floor. "This is beneath you," Joshua told him. "She's a human girl Levi."
The realization that his blood was in my system had my stomach churning and hot tears wet my cheeks. There were two ways one could become a vampire. Venom or drinking their blood. I was more than terrified.
I had vampire blood in my system and I was left alone with vampires that wanted me dead for some reason. "How did you find us?" Levi got down to eye level with me and I pressed my back against the wall to get an inkling of space away from him.
Then as if I heard a voice in my head. A voice I hadn't heard in over ten years.
'You never show monsters' fear, yes they are stronger but you are smarter. They can be killed just be strategic about it,' Dallas my huntress mother once told me.
"I wasn't looking for you," I found my voice, gaining my second wind. I looked him dead in his cool blue eyes and he brought his face inches away from mine our noses almost touching. "I'm here to study. I have no idea who any of you are."
"You are a part of the Arizonian Obsidian wolf pack. You reek of mongrel."
"Don't you dare speak of my family like that," I seethed through clenched teeth.
"Levi stop it. She was probably a little girl when we lost mother. It was years ago," his sister Hannah tried to pull him away from me and he shrugged her off.
"Your Alpha's son killed my mother," Levi roared in my face.
My eyebrows furrowed. Was he insane? Creed's son couldn't even hurt a fly if he tried. "You insane, Parker is only nine years old."
"Hannah this isn't going anywhere," Joshua said to his sister. "Do it and let's find out the truth before our brother rips her apart."
Hannah put her hand on Levi's shoulder and he stood and backed away from me. His eyes remained on me as he went to stand at the opposite end of the bathroom.
Hannah crouched in front of me. "I won't hurt you."
I was getting tired of the good cop, interrogative cop, and crazy cop routine the siblings had going on. "If you want to kill me just get it over with." I glowered at her and she sighed and placed her hands on either side of my face staring deep into my eyes.
"Sleep," she whispered and my eyes instantly felt heavy as darkness overtook me.

I awoke on something soft. As my vision cleared up I noticed I was on a bed in a room. I sat up to see all three of them watching me. Coming to my senses I grabbed the lamp from the bedside and held it in front of me as a weapon.
Joshua laughed, "What are you planning on doing with that, darling?" He walked over to me and took it out of my hands and placed it back on the nightstand.
Levi stood at the doorway his eyes frantic as he watched me."I'm so sorry about this," Hannah said and she looked remorseful but I had to wonder what kind of remorse did a vampire have. "We looked through your memories while you were asleep. You are not here to kill us. Our brother acted hastily."
I stood and she blocked my path with her vampire speed causing me to stumble back. "We won't hurt you May." She put her hands in front of her in an attempt to calm me.
I sidestepped her and I moved quickly to the door. Levi stood in front of it with his arms folded as he scowled at me. This time he was dressed differently. In a black t-shirt and pants. He had tattoos running up his arms and neck. How different he looked from that evil creature that forced blood down my throat and tried to kill me in the bathroom. "Get out of way." I glowered at him. It didn't matter what face these creatures had. They were evil incarnate.
The taste of his putrid blood was still lingering in my mouth. It tasted like rust and seawater and I longed for anything to get the taste out. "You aren't going anywhere, love," he answered snappily.
"And if you all are not going to kill me. Why am I here?" I asked looking at all their faces.
"You have vampire blood in your system." Levi smiled down at me. "It simply means if you die in the next twenty-four hours. I get to rip your heart from your chest and I'd hate to have to do that to you."
I looked up at him. "You didn't seem to hate it all that much earlier," I retorted.
"So the Obsidian wolf pack has a new alpha. Your memories reveal that is your brother and he too was once human?" Joshua inquired. "You have to forgive us. We were unaware of your motives."
"Brother I beseeched thee not to play the harmless nobleman when you, yourself were fangs deep in an entire village of humans after our mother's passing," Levi glowered at his brother.
"It was eleven years ago. When are you going to stop bringing it up? Our mother's death left us all devastated."
"So you get to slaughter an entire village and when I go after a member of the clan responsible for her death, I'm painted the villain." He laughed but there was no humor in the sound.
"No one is making you the villain," Hannah chimed in. "Levi she is not a wolf. She isn't even related to any of them. She was adopted. She is not like them," Hannah voiced. I must admit it did hurt when she spoke of my relation to the pack in that way and I felt violated that they were in my head. Digging and learning everything about my past.
"Hannah your heart is soft. She grew up with wolves. Just because she is human doesn't mean she is feeble. She probably knows how to kill a vampire," Levi voiced his concerns. "Isn't that right, love?" He looked at me. He walked across the room and picked up a wooden rocking chair. He threw the rocking chair against the wall startling me and his siblings.
My heart rate picked up to the extent I could hear it in my ears. He was a psychopath. "Go ahead, there are sharp pieces of wood all around. Have at it. Take your shot, love."
"Brother control yourself," Joshua warned.
"Are you going to try and kill us?" Hannah asked me.
I hated vampires. They were the reason my life was the circus show it was."You saw my memories so you know the pain your kind has brought upon me."
Joshua looked at me with sympathy in his eyes. "I can understand your pain. Our mother was killed by a wolf by the name of Micah Obsidian, eleven years ago, May. You can understand the mix-up," Joshua tried to play mediator and I remembered this story.
Hera told it to me years ago. "Micah was killed by my brother when he became Alpha of the Obsidian wolf pack. Your mother was avenged. My mother was killed by your kind and the perpetrator is probably still out there. I lost my entire family because of creatures like you. So you lot can rest easy knowing justice has been served for your lost mother and y'all can leave me the hell alone because I have nothing left to say to any of you." I pushed past Levi and he grabbed my arm.
"Your mother was killed by vampires?" He repeated and it almost looked like his eyes softened.
"Are you mocking me? You invaded my mind while I was asleep. Was it not enough. Do you want the narration too?" He looked at me with his mouth agape.
"I didn't look into your memories," he said and I scoffed. Like I would ever believe the words of a conniving vampire. "Stay the hell away from me all of you," was my final word as I pushed past Levi with force and left the room.
Streaks of purple lightning lit up the dark and gloomy night sky as rain poured down relentlessly. There was not a star or moon in sight, just darkness above and thick fog below.I attempted my walk back to my dorm room. The flashes of lightning were my only guidance through the darkness. The day my family was slaughtered in cold blood was the day I met a peculiar woman who I had grown to love during my brief stay with her.Though she was as wicked as some of the creatures she killed in her lifetime, she believed she did the right thing by not trusting monsters and putting human lives above theirs. She saved me and my siblings from monsters. But her hatred for something that wasn't human had no bounds. I feared I'd become like her with the hatred I had for vampires. The thought was disconcerting and one I never shared with my family. I cast it to the deepest pits of my mind and the next ten years of
For the past week, I spent whatever extra time I had familiarizing myself with the surrounding forestry. The forest reminded me of home and every time I heard a branch break or the sound of crunching dry grass I expected to see a wolf.I mostly felt lonely. I had Gina. She was a good roommate but I felt that void in my chest grow bigger since I cut all contact with my family. But instead of being alone with my thoughts of them in a place that reminded me of them, I began whittling with my iron dagger.I learned how to make wooden stakes so that I had a proper weapon to defend myself. It took a few tries before I got the weight and the point of the edge right and I was certain in my craftmanship that this would pierce the flesh of a vampire and kill him.But my armory didn't stop there. I needed Holy water, a box of matches, and gasoline. They were smart at choosing to hide out in a place that had no sun but not only the sun could kill them, but
On Monday morning the school became the center of all focus in the small town as three students who were last seen attending the Valentine's party on Saturday night went missing. I felt regret and disgust. I was angry at myself. I should have killed them. There was no time for morals when it came to monsters. I was being naive. We were all food at this point. Levi's reaction to me after I asked him about Seth's death should have been enough for me to see that he and his family cared nothing for the students at the school. We were all walking blood bags as far as they were concerned. I couldn't live with myself anymore. Something in me was breaking every second they stayed breathing. I had thought about it the entire morning and I knew what needed to be done. I was going to kill a Vampire, starting with Levi. I needed to separate them from each other —which was easier said than done— considering they were always to
Days went by and the students that went missing didn't turn up. The school had become an investigation site. Our new curfew was at ten pm and every night they did a register. I was starting to believe the Valentines were telling the truth. They seemed just as confused and concerned as the rest of us did and besides that every time I glimpsed them I noticed they argued. Something was afoot. Seth's death and the missing students, could it all be linked? This had me and Alex doing research about the school. Charles Medley Valentine became the dean two years ago. Students were safe and there were no reports of missing children or mysterious deaths. What had changed?Besides doing research with Alex, I got to learn more about her. She was trying to find ways to advance her abilities without having to ascend. Alex became another mystery to me especially since she didn't explain why she rejected her coven.I had two minds about asking her about the a
It had started to rain heavily as we walked through the forest. Thick grey clouds covered the sky, making it appear to be evening though it was only noon. "Could you walk any slower," Levi called back to me. "Where are we even going?" There was an air of regret in my voice for trusting him. I couldn't explain why I was so stupid to follow him into the forest after he tried to kill me twice. There was a little voice in my head screaming in the background that I tried to kill him as well but the truth remained the success of me killing him on my own was twenty percent and him killing me was a hundred. I was less a threat to him than he was to me and Alex and I needed to have an advantage. It was the only way we were going to have peace of mind at this school. "I want to show you something. If you could be patient that is," he said in annoyance. The answer had been the same every time I asked. "How you murder me on
Sleep was a privilege to many and a curse to me. I was constantly rampaged by nightmares that I wished there was another form of rest I could retire to at the end of the day. My dreams were somewhat dementing and I was sure I needed a therapist especially after last night. I dreamed about Levi in a way I chose never to think about him and the worst part was that I could still feel his presence lingering around me. "So I told my sister she can fuck off. I'm not going home to meet another one of her fiance's. I mean this is the third man she is planning on marrying in five years." The anger was evident in Gina's voice that she would probably have to go back to Ireland for her sister's third wedding. I wanted to say anything to her of use and be the friend she needed but I just couldn't stop thinking about that dream. The feel of Levi's hand on my skin and his lips... "May is there something you want to tell me?" Gina chased the thoughts away and I hunched over my textb
"Firstly, what's a wendigo?" Alex asked. We were sitting in the middle of Levi's dorm room with Hannah and Joshua as we explained to Alex the things we learned over the weekend.Levi closed his eyes tightly. "You're focusing on the wrong part of the story, Merlin."Alex shrugged, examining her plain cuticles. "Morbid curiosity and besides it would be better to know exactly what we going up against here."Levi sighed, shaking his head at her. "It looks like a zombie," he threw his hands up in frustration, "I can't really tell you which depths of Tartarus the creature crawled out from.""It sometimes has deer antlers," Hannah said in thought and looked at Joshua. "When Joshua and I were discarding the bodies of the ones you killed, we encountered four more of the creatures. We killed them at first glance.""The ones you killed, looked human," Joshua stood and crossed the room, "and might I even say zombified. Could it be possible it's two
Thunder rattled the windows of the dining hall. Bad weather was the norm in Brookburgh it wasn't anything to get too excited about or something that could ruin plans.I sat at our normal table with Alex and Gina as I nursed a bowl of corn flakes. "So my mother called me last night and it was a whole argument about how I needed to be there to support my sister in her future endeavors. They've all lost it I tell you." Gina slammed her issue of glamour magazine on the table.Alex looked at Gina as if she was listening intently to her family problems but I knew Alex's mind was on a different Astro plane, she was thinking about tonight."May," I heard Garret's voice and I turned to see him standing at our table. His nose had a plaster over it and his cheeks were red and his eyes watery. "Can we talk?" His voice sounded nasally making me feel bad for Levi punching him.Gina and Alex both looked at me awaiting my
It was Christmas eve and it was snowing. The castle looked beautiful covered in snow. I walked out of my last lecture for the day to see Levi waiting for me outside the building. "We could be anywhere in the world right now but you choose to be in a lecture." He held his arms open for me. I hugged him and he entwined our fingers as we walked. "We've been through this. I want to finish university." "Come with me," he said, taking me towards the forest. "Where are we going?" "Since you've been so good, playing human. I got a surprise for you." "You didn't have to get me anything." "But I did," he smiled, "I've realized that I never got to take you on a real date." "What," I smiled, "we went on dates before. Remember the time you took me to Vinny's in town?" Levi laughed. "That was not a date. I got kidnapped." "Okay in Arizona we went to the mall and we sat on a cliffside and kissed." "You have low standards," he said. "Says the man that married a murderous psychopa
Hannah was gone, and I wasn't human anymore. In less than twenty-four hours all our lives changed majorly stunning all of us into silence. The silence wasn't even awkward, there was no where to start the conversation. So silence would just have to do. I walked to Levi's room to take a minute to gather my thoughts. I was starting to feel myself again –emotionally– but it felt like I now had an alter ego. My vampire side that would take control at the scent of human blood. I had no control over it. The blood left my mind with no room to reason. It was a demanding, self-consuming force and I was afraid because I didn't know who this other half of me was or how far it was going to go to get that drop of blood. It was safer for the students if I didn't go outside for a while. The last thing I wanted was a mass slaughter on my hands. I was so used to protecting the school from threats and now I was one of their biggest threats. I shut the bedroom door behind me and fell back on the bed.
Darkness was consuming, deceitful and blinding. "Where am I?" I thought aloud. The sound of my shoes kept me company, from the soundless madness. "Hello?"I began to panic this was becoming too weird. I took off running but where was I going to run to? I was hoping I'd hit something eventually running in a straight line. There would have to be a wall, a tree, or anything. But running was pointless. There was no end and no beginning to the darkness. The sound of a child giggling git my head to snap up again. "Hello" I called after the child."Marco," I heard the child whisper and I swallowed hard at the familiarity in his voice. "Marco," he called again stunning me into silence."Jake?" The name fell out of my mouth instantly. "is that really you?""No, that's not how you play," he said walking out of the darkness. "I say Marco and you say polo, May.""You're alive," I smiled and he looked down at the ground. "But where are we? How can I see you but nothing else?""Did you ever forget m
I sat at the kitchen island, watching Alex and Josh prepare breakfast. The tension in the room was suffocating and any attempt I tried to make to start a conversation was answered in grunts and shrugs. Josh deliberately moved away every time Alex got too close, almost as if being too close was burning him alive. Josh wanted to be with Alex but other than supernatural forces threatening his life for it, she was the mate of a werewolf— further complicating their relationship. I wasn't hungry after my unsuccessful conversation with Levi, but Alex and Josh both insisted on breakfast, and I knew better than to argue with another angry vampire as well as a fuming witch, that could turn me into a frog with a single hand gesture. Alex placed a stack of pancakes in front of me. "Eat up," she dusted her hands, "I can't guarantee it will be as good as yours." Joshua moved to the fridge grabbing jars of berries and other fruits and juices, as well as a tomato. "I'm surprised there are so man
Levi took me into his room and shut the door. "Go to sleep." He shrugged off his black coat and threw it at the armchair in the corner of the room.I was still buzzing from the alcohol. "Why don't you go to sleep." I fell backward onto the bed.He sighed, loudly. "May," his voice was low, "I would appreciate it if you don't sass me right now." He sat down on the bed next to me. "I have to go out there and deal with my father. Please do me a favor and behave."I mounted him, straddling his lap and he didn't look surprised. "What are you doing?" He asked in a flat tone of voice.I pecked his lips, looking into his eyes and that was enough for me to want more and tug on his bottom lip with my teeth. He licked my bottom lip and kissed me softly not giving into his full passion. He pulled away. "Can you go to sleep now?" He asked breathily, trying to control himself."Kiss me properly first."I kissed him again running my hands under his shirt and over his cold abs. "May," he said between
When I stepped onto the Brookburgh campus again, I felt different. I felt the way I should have felt on my first day, optimistic and ready to face any academic challenge. Even first semester exams. I spent a week cramming everything I could into my head and when the time came I sat for my finals with Alex and Gina by my side. I had to admit it felt strange being in a lecture room. I barely saw Levi since we got back from Arizona and I thought he was giving me space to focus on my exams, but it had been two days after my exams, and still no sign of him. I was starting to think he left the school and I didn't want to ask Hannah because if he did I wouldn't know what to do next. I sat on my bed holding the heart-shaped rock he gave me. The memory of it all felt so distant but every time I closed my eyes and thought of every kiss we shared it was like I could feel it. I could grasp it and hold onto it but there was only so far a memory could sustain happiness and I had to pray ever
It was a beautiful sunny day and my family as per usual on sunny days like this— where the sun wasn't too hot and the wind was just right— took advantage of nature's kindness and had a picnic. Eleanora and Hera were making hot dogs on the grill. While Levi was keeping Mia and Parker occupied by playing a game of catch. My brothers were at the docks handling the shipping company they ran together. They got along okay with Levi. They all weren't best friends but at least they weren't trying to kill each other and that was all I could ask for. Baby steps.I sat on the stairs sipping iced lemonade with my shades covering my eyes as I watched Levi chase Mia and Parker around. Something I can scratch off my 'never thought I would see' list. Levi was different here, maybe it was the fact that he was playing in the sun, and not clinging to the shadows or maybe it was how carefree he looked. How human he appeared to be. I would be lying if I said I loved before Levi and I'd be a liar if
I opened my eyes to see Levi laying beside me. He was flipping through a book and I sat up confused about how he ended up in my bed. "Good, you're awake," he said, keeping his eyes fixed on the book. "What are you doing in my room?" I murmured. "Reading," was his arrogant response. "I can see that, but why in my room?" He rolled his eyes and shut the book, sitting up to look at me. "I heard you moaning in your sleep early hours of the morning." "Where is El?" I asked, "did she see you come in here?" "No, I saw your brother carrying her to their room." "So you sneak into my bed, not thinking that my brothers will barge in at any moment." How could he not see how this would look. "You have your clothes on," he said, his eyes dropping to what I was wearing. "It's a shame you can't sleep in those shorts and vest in Scotland," he grinned. "You're a pig," I turned over not wanting to deal with his antics and just sleep since I couldn't sleep last night. "Yet you still in be
"Tell me a story," Mia said, settling under the covers. "What kind of story?" I sat at the edge of her bed, "I know red riding hood, Goldilocks and the three bears or three little pigs." "I don't know," she shrugged, "something filled with adventure and danger." "Mia, you live with wolves it doesn't get any more adventurous than that." "The most adventure I have here is sitting on dad's back when he is a wolf." "Hey, that's more than some kids get. You got a dad who can also be a pet," I said and she giggled."What color do you think my fur would be when I shift?" She asked catching me off guard. I went silent. How did Elias manage to lie to her. She was a sweet kid and I was sure she would understand if they told her the truth. "Red," I smiled. Hopefully, she would forgive me one day but it was not my place to tell her. "I'm hoping for pink," she smiled goofily." "Mia," I snorted and she let out a yawn. She was tired but refused to sleep. "I would have to settle for red.
