"Do it," Dallas put her arms around my shoulders, her voice was coaxing and I was tempted, "it killed your family." On a chair in front of me sat a being with their head down. They were bound in rope. "Do it, May." She put a wooden stake in my hand.

"Mmm-" The person's head bobbed around lazily, "Mmaay," they struggled to speak. They picked their head up and the wooden stake fell from my hands.

"Gina," I rushed towards her. I tried to pry the ropes off her and she groaned. The rope was wet and smoke wafted off her skin.

"What are you doing!" Dallas roared. "She's a vampire. She is no longer your friend.

Gina suddenly laughed and I turned to see her eyes were crimson and her teeth were stained with blood. "You should listen to her, May," she sounded deranged, "kill me before I kill you."

I never thought I'd be in a situation where I needed to talk to Garret again. I knew I couldn't hide from him forever and that I would run into him during our classes together. But all the ill feelings I once harbored were gone. It could have been seeing his unconscious body lying in a hospital bed, the giant plaster around his head, his bandaged neck, and wrists or it could have been something else other than pity. That I was simply over it or I didn't like him as much as I wanted myself to.Levi had left to go scour the forests with Joshua to find Ophelia, leaving Alex as my bodyguard and Hannah as Gina's guard again. Hannah didn't seem to mind it even though Alex said she would take over from where Josh left off."I can't believe I feel sorry for this wanker," Alex grumbled, begrudgingly.I shook my head. A small smile formed on my face as I thought of what Gina would say seeing him lik

Levi and I stood at the threshold of the bedroom door as we spied on Mia. She had fallen asleep and she looked too peaceful and adorable to disturb. Her little nose was scrunched up and her brows dipped as she released shallow breaths through those petal pink lips. This is why Elias had failed most mornings to wake her for school and asked someone else to do it instead. Watching her sleep had a feeling of comfort and ease wash over me.It didn't matter what kind of being Mia was. I still loved her and saw her as a ray of sunshine that cut through thick clouds during a storm. She was a loving and caring being that's all that mattered. "I've known this child her entire life. Fed her, offered her comfort on nights she couldn't sleep, advised her as best as I could. It doesn't matter what she is. I don't think anything can make me stop loving her." His jaw flexed as he smiled down at me.The wolves had m

  • To Love A Vampire    Chapter 16

Physics can be defined as the science of matter, motion, and energy. Its laws are typically expressed with economy and precision in the language of mathematics– my brain felt like it was melting. Sitting and staring at a textbook did not ensure the mind registering and understanding what it came across. Learning and understanding went together like bread and butter and I was missing my butter. Basic science and math were beyond my comprehending, this much was clear when I reached for my calculator to ensure five plus seven was indeed twelve. I had no passion to learn or try to even understand. I was a sponge when it came to knowledge– a good thing until a sponge absorbs too much water and then starts to drip. I forced myself because I couldn't let Levi charm the professors into giving me more leeway with my courses. It was unethical and unfair for the rest of the students. Sucking it up and being an adult about it was h

I called Joshua but I could not just stay put. Why did Levi go after her alone. It could have been a trap. I ran all over the town through different alleyways and I reached the breaking into the forest. The tall trees stood ominously, swaying and splintering as the wind assaulted their branches. I couldn't see anything due to a thick fog that had blanketed the forest floor. The birds distressed chirping sounded like warnings. Animals knew when a storm was coming. I let out a steady breath and began to move forward. "May," Joshua appeared in front of me, "are you insane," he grabbed me by the shoulders giving me a shake. "Josh, good you here," my voice held relief, "We have to go find him," I moved to go past him and he stopped me again. "I will find him. You should wait by the car with Alex

  • To Love A Vampire    Chapter 18

Daphne showed me to a room and offered me a warm bath and hot meal. Both of which I refused. I wasn't looking for a bed and breakfast and I wasn't letting my guard down. Finally after a few minutes of being told to wait in a room– for my own good– Daphne emerged holding a dress. This was no random dress. The way the light danced off the silk, giving it a shimmery look was too familiar, and instantly I knew where Ophelia found the dress and why she picked it.It was the dress Levi picked out for me at the boutique. The one we bickered about. He insisted I get it and I refused because I had no where to wear it to.This was proof she had been watching us. Every time we thought she was silent, it didn't mean she wasn't there, quietly observing and waiting for the right moment. It was bone-chilling how calculated Ophelia was. What chance could we stand against someone that had us figured out and anticipated our

  • To Love A Vampire    Chapter 19

In Brookburgh it was easy for the days to fall into a routine. Even the weather was on board with this regime of things but that did not mean the locals didn't wish for difference. Even if that difference was one miraculous day of sunshine. Unfortunately, today was not that day. It was gloomy with a side of rakish winds. It was also a very slow day, the seconds seemed to drag to reach that minute and the minutes were even worst because it seemed painful to wait for the next hour to pass. Three days passed since I last saw Levi. I knew he was avoiding me and I was taking his sibling's advice. They knew him far better than I did and I could use all the advice I could get because I didn't want to give up on him. My worst fear was not that my quest for love would be unsuccessful but it was that I had lost Levi completely. If he

It is possible to die from heartbreak. That is why so many perish after their soul mates have. But I'm not into medicine or therapy.Therapy meant I'd have to be reasonable and understanding and by nature, I was a very unreasonable person.Medicine on the other hand couldn't fix everything. Because if it could then I'd swallow a bottle of whatever potion that would help heal this hole in my chest. The sound of whistling broke my reverie and I looked at Joshua who stood against the house with yearning eyes for Alex – who wasn't going to give him a second glance since she knew exactly where he stood while she poured a circle of salt on the ground around Gina and Hannah.I would also offer this miracle potion to Joshua. I'd offer it to anyone with a broken heart with a daily dose of never fall in love pills. But as Hera would tell me, falling in love was like catching a bad cold. 'One day you're

A prickly feeling almost as if tiny ants were crawling up my hands and legs made me rub my sweaty palms on my faded jeans as the car broke through the forest turning into the driveway of the pack house."You know you don't have to be a wolf for me to know when something is wrong with you," Creed said, and I kept my eyes on my lap as the car came to a stop. The car ride was mostly silent. I was too busy anticipating what I was going to say to everyone. "I feel terrible." There was no point in lying to him about my guilt."You were always too hard on yourself as a child. The easiest teenager I've met. You reprimanded yourself the moment you knew you did something wrong. Do you remember the pranks you and Jordan played on me?" He laughed.I felt myself at ease at the memory. "We took it too far sometimes.""I agree after the frog in my boot," he chuckled causing me to smile and some of those prickling ants to fade.I held myself from laughing, "El felt bad for the frog. • To Love A Vampire    Epilogue

It was Christmas eve and it was snowing. The castle looked beautiful covered in snow. I walked out of my last lecture for the day to see Levi waiting for me outside the building. "We could be anywhere in the world right now but you choose to be in a lecture." He held his arms open for me. I hugged him and he entwined our fingers as we walked. "We've been through this. I want to finish university." "Come with me," he said, taking me towards the forest. "Where are we going?" "Since you've been so good, playing human. I got a surprise for you." "You didn't have to get me anything." "But I did," he smiled, "I've realized that I never got to take you on a real date." "What," I smiled, "we went on dates before. Remember the time you took me to Vinny's in town?" Levi laughed. "That was not a date. I got kidnapped." "Okay in Arizona we went to the mall and we sat on a cliffside and kissed." "You have low standards," he said. "Says the man that married a murderous psychopa

  • To Love A Vampire    Chapter 29

Hannah was gone, and I wasn't human anymore. In less than twenty-four hours all our lives changed majorly stunning all of us into silence. The silence wasn't even awkward, there was no where to start the conversation. So silence would just have to do. I walked to Levi's room to take a minute to gather my thoughts. I was starting to feel myself again –emotionally– but it felt like I now had an alter ego. My vampire side that would take control at the scent of human blood. I had no control over it. The blood left my mind with no room to reason. It was a demanding, self-consuming force and I was afraid because I didn't know who this other half of me was or how far it was going to go to get that drop of blood. It was safer for the students if I didn't go outside for a while. The last thing I wanted was a mass slaughter on my hands. I was so used to protecting the school from threats and now I was one of their biggest threats. I shut the bedroom door behind me and fell back on the bed.

Darkness was consuming, deceitful and blinding. "Where am I?" I thought aloud. The sound of my shoes kept me company, from the soundless madness. "Hello?"I began to panic this was becoming too weird. I took off running but where was I going to run to? I was hoping I'd hit something eventually running in a straight line. There would have to be a wall, a tree, or anything. But running was pointless. There was no end and no beginning to the darkness. The sound of a child giggling git my head to snap up again. "Hello" I called after the child."Marco," I heard the child whisper and I swallowed hard at the familiarity in his voice. "Marco," he called again stunning me into silence."Jake?" The name fell out of my mouth instantly. "is that really you?""No, that's not how you play," he said walking out of the darkness. "I say Marco and you say polo, May.""You're alive," I smiled and he looked down at the ground. "But where are we? How can I see you but nothing else?""Did you ever forget m

  • To Love A Vampire    Chapter 27

I sat at the kitchen island, watching Alex and Josh prepare breakfast. The tension in the room was suffocating and any attempt I tried to make to start a conversation was answered in grunts and shrugs. Josh deliberately moved away every time Alex got too close, almost as if being too close was burning him alive. Josh wanted to be with Alex but other than supernatural forces threatening his life for it, she was the mate of a werewolf— further complicating their relationship. I wasn't hungry after my unsuccessful conversation with Levi, but Alex and Josh both insisted on breakfast, and I knew better than to argue with another angry vampire as well as a fuming witch, that could turn me into a frog with a single hand gesture. Alex placed a stack of pancakes in front of me. "Eat up," she dusted her hands, "I can't guarantee it will be as good as yours." Joshua moved to the fridge grabbing jars of berries and other fruits and juices, as well as a tomato. "I'm surprised there are so man

Levi took me into his room and shut the door. "Go to sleep." He shrugged off his black coat and threw it at the armchair in the corner of the room.I was still buzzing from the alcohol. "Why don't you go to sleep." I fell backward onto the bed.He sighed, loudly. "May," his voice was low, "I would appreciate it if you don't sass me right now." He sat down on the bed next to me. "I have to go out there and deal with my father. Please do me a favor and behave."I mounted him, straddling his lap and he didn't look surprised. "What are you doing?" He asked in a flat tone of voice.I pecked his lips, looking into his eyes and that was enough for me to want more and tug on his bottom lip with my teeth. He licked my bottom lip and kissed me softly not giving into his full passion. He pulled away. "Can you go to sleep now?" He asked breathily, trying to control himself."Kiss me properly first."I kissed him again running my hands under his shirt and over his cold abs. "May," he said between

  • To Love A Vampire    Chapter 25

When I stepped onto the Brookburgh campus again, I felt different. I felt the way I should have felt on my first day, optimistic and ready to face any academic challenge. Even first semester exams. I spent a week cramming everything I could into my head and when the time came I sat for my finals with Alex and Gina by my side. I had to admit it felt strange being in a lecture room. I barely saw Levi since we got back from Arizona and I thought he was giving me space to focus on my exams, but it had been two days after my exams, and still no sign of him. I was starting to think he left the school and I didn't want to ask Hannah because if he did I wouldn't know what to do next. I sat on my bed holding the heart-shaped rock he gave me. The memory of it all felt so distant but every time I closed my eyes and thought of every kiss we shared it was like I could feel it. I could grasp it and hold onto it but there was only so far a memory could sustain happiness and I had to pray ever

  • To Love A Vampire    Chapter 24

It was a beautiful sunny day and my family as per usual on sunny days like this— where the sun wasn't too hot and the wind was just right— took advantage of nature's kindness and had a picnic. Eleanora and Hera were making hot dogs on the grill. While Levi was keeping Mia and Parker occupied by playing a game of catch. My brothers were at the docks handling the shipping company they ran together. They got along okay with Levi. They all weren't best friends but at least they weren't trying to kill each other and that was all I could ask for. Baby steps.I sat on the stairs sipping iced lemonade with my shades covering my eyes as I watched Levi chase Mia and Parker around. Something I can scratch off my 'never thought I would see' list. Levi was different here, maybe it was the fact that he was playing in the sun, and not clinging to the shadows or maybe it was how carefree he looked. How human he appeared to be. I would be lying if I said I loved before Levi and I'd be a liar if

  • To Love A Vampire    Chapter 23

I opened my eyes to see Levi laying beside me. He was flipping through a book and I sat up confused about how he ended up in my bed. "Good, you're awake," he said, keeping his eyes fixed on the book. "What are you doing in my room?" I murmured. "Reading," was his arrogant response. "I can see that, but why in my room?" He rolled his eyes and shut the book, sitting up to look at me. "I heard you moaning in your sleep early hours of the morning." "Where is El?" I asked, "did she see you come in here?" "No, I saw your brother carrying her to their room." "So you sneak into my bed, not thinking that my brothers will barge in at any moment." How could he not see how this would look. "You have your clothes on," he said, his eyes dropping to what I was wearing. "It's a shame you can't sleep in those shorts and vest in Scotland," he grinned. "You're a pig," I turned over not wanting to deal with his antics and just sleep since I couldn't sleep last night. "Yet you still in be

"Tell me a story," Mia said, settling under the covers. "What kind of story?" I sat at the edge of her bed, "I know red riding hood, Goldilocks and the three bears or three little pigs." "I don't know," she shrugged, "something filled with adventure and danger." "Mia, you live with wolves it doesn't get any more adventurous than that." "The most adventure I have here is sitting on dad's back when he is a wolf." "Hey, that's more than some kids get. You got a dad who can also be a pet," I said and she giggled."What color do you think my fur would be when I shift?" She asked catching me off guard. I went silent. How did Elias manage to lie to her. She was a sweet kid and I was sure she would understand if they told her the truth. "Red," I smiled. Hopefully, she would forgive me one day but it was not my place to tell her. "I'm hoping for pink," she smiled goofily." "Mia," I snorted and she let out a yawn. She was tired but refused to sleep. "I would have to settle for red.
