We spent the rest of the day partying, which would have normally been right up my alley but I hadn't been feeling too well lately. The nausea would come and go so I just figured that the feeling was due to all of the stress that my family and I were under. Ethan noticed that I wasn't drinking any alcohol and came over to sit beside me, his eyebrows knit together in worry. I chuckled quietly and held out my pointer finger trying to smooth out the small "v" that had formed on his forehead just between his eyebrows. "You are just determined to get wrinkles..Aren't you?" He rolled his eyes playfully but didn't smile, instead he simply placed the back of his hand to my forehead.

"No fever.." He mumbled, causing me to lift a brow in questioning. "I just wanted to know if you're sick. I've never known you to turn down booze, especially now."

"What is that supposed to mean? Are you saying I'm an alcoholic?" I questioned him, hearing the bite in my own voice. He simply shook his head while hol

The week went by in a blur. I couldn’t bring myself to actually leave my room as the news began to settle in. A light knock sounded at my door before Parker entered my darkened bedroom. “Hey Eira…how are you feeling?” He whispered. I gave a slight shrug as he sat next to me. “Do you feel like visiting with the family today?” I shook my head as I kept my eyes trained on my lap. “Will you at least think about it?” I gave a small nod causing him to kiss the top of my head before he left me alone. I covered my body with my fuzzy blanket and blinked away the silent tears that had fallen. I tensed when I heard the door open. “Okay. That’s enough.” I glared up towards the tall silhouette standing above me. “Go away Koa.” My voice came out as a raspy whisper. He shook his head as he pulled the blanket off of me.“No. You aren’t the only one that is hurting from this. Now get up.” I glared at him, shaking my head as I stubbornly crossed my arms over my chest. His jaw tensed briefly before he

I woke the next morning to an empty bed with the sun shining through the slightly opened curtains. I groaned as I attempted to go back to sleep but sighed, giving up at my feeble attempt. I tossed the covers to the side and pulled on some shorts and one of Koa’s hoodies. I walked down the stairs and towards the kitchen but hesitated when I heard Koa talking with my mother in her office. I knocked on the door before quickly entering the large office. They both turned to look towards me before glancing back at each other. “Hi.” I greeted them cautiously. Koa smiled as he walked over to me, pulling me gently into his side. “Good morning.” He placed a brief kiss on my temple. “What were you two just talking about?” I questioned while glancing between the two of them suspiciously. Koa shrugged while my mother just watched us. “Ma?” She gave a slight nod before gesturing towards the chairs set in front of her desk. “What all is this about, Koa? You’ve been acting suspicious all day.” I chuckled while eyeing him suspiciously. He smirked, shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly. “Mhm…Sure…” I playfully stuck my tongue out at him before lifting the menu to look at. After deciding on the salad and steak I set the menu off to the side. A waitress walked over soon after to take our drink and food order. “Hi, what can I get you handsome?” She greeted, her attention focused towards Koa. I rolled my eyes as I bit the inside of my cheek. He seemed to notice. “Babe?” He drew her attention towards me. I shifted my eyes towards him, waiting for him to speak again. “What would you like?” The waitress glared daggers at me while I was trying to hide the smug look showing on my face. “Some water and the salad with steak. Medium rare.” He used his hand to cover his proud smirk before nodding briefly.“Same.” He began, “But also bring out the best bottle of wine. Oh, and just a suggestion, I wouldn’t piss my fianc

  • To Catch a Dream   It's Real

I woke up the next morning and pulled on a hoodie and some pajama shorts before walking downstairs towards the kitchen. I was surprised to see the house empty but smiled at the calmness. I set my mug into the keurig while waiting for the water to warm up for my coffee. Just a few brief moments later, the smell of mild roast coffee filled the air around the kitchen. I took this moment to sit on the front porch while slowly sipping at the hot liquid warming my favorite mug. About twenty minutes later, the familiar black dodge durango pulled into the family’s driveway before my brothers piled out of the SUV. I grinned while admiring the close bond that happened within our family’s bloodlines. “Dawnie!” My brother, Parker shouted as soon as he saw me. I smiled warmly at him while waving.“Hey Park. Where have you been lately?” I smirked, teasing the youngest of my brothers. He playfully rolled his eyes.“Oh you know, here and there.” He chuckled while giving a noncommittal shrug. I burst

We gave my mother a moment to get situated after she returned home. I hesitantly knocked on her office door while Koa still held onto my left hand. “Come in.” I heard my mother’s voice call out as I sighed before turning the metal knob. “Eira, Koa, is everything alright?” She questioned as she watched us.“Everything is fine. We were just wanting to discuss an important matter.” Koa spoke up as I glared up towards him. He gave me a reassuring nod, pressing for me to continue. My mother was eyeing the both of us curiously. “Ma…” My voice sounded weak. She gave a nod of encouragement. “What would you do…or rather say…if I said I didn’t want to be part of the family business?” I stumbled over my words as my eyes dropped to the floor under my feet. When I heard her light laughter, my eyes shot up towards where she sat behind her desk.“The only one that said you had to stay is gone now. I just ask that you don’t throw your life away as well as your family again.” She smiled warmly toward

After purchasing the gown, we decided to grab a bite to eat so that we could get to know Evelyn more. My mother had found out that Thomas and his little brother were raised rather similarly to our family so she grew curious. Evelyn had met Thomas while waitressing at a local pub and that was all it took for him to have swept her off of her feet. I smiled while listening to her talk about their relationship.Azzie nudged me before motioning towards the bathroom. I looked at her skeptically when she mouthed the words, ‘Come with me.’ I nodded towards her before excusing ourselves momentarily.“What’s up Azzie?” I asked once she had ensured that the women’s restroom was completely empty. She smiled while pulling out a box wrapped in a bow. “I want you to have this.” She h

The next month flew by quicker than I thought it would. The wedding was approaching rather quickly and we were in the process of packing and moving everything out of my mother’s house and into the penthouse. Azzie’s birthday party was planned for this next weekend in which she had no idea that we were even planning anything. She was turning 18 years old as well as working through her senior year of high school. “Eira!” I heard my mother’s voice call out from the office while I was sitting lost in my own thoughts in the living room. As I walked into her office, I replied, “Yeah Ma. What’s up?” She was looking more stressed than usual so I felt myself growing worried by the second. “Do you think Sam can help cook for the party? The caterer’s came down with some type of the flu or something so they had to cancel.” I chuckled quietly while nodding towards her. “He offered to help with that kind of stuff so yeah Ma, I’m sure he would be happy to do this.” She nodded, visibly relaxing

Recap: “You’re right it’s not. It’s safer. It means I know my twin brother won’t ever leave me. It means that you also keep everyone else safe and aware using the God given skills that you have.” I felt the familiar stinging behind my eyes causing me to look down at my hands. The next thing I know, I was pulled into one of the tightest hugs that I had felt in a long time.
