Chapter 14

In the study of Riverview Villa, the large computer screen displayed video footage, playing segment by segment.

On the screen, an old wooden cabin stood quietly by the lake, with a willow tree beside it. The long branches swayed in the wind, making a soft rustling sound. On that late autumn afternoon, the sound was strangely calming.

Felix didn’t know how long he had been watching when, finally, a young woman appeared on the screen. Instantly, he sat up straight, his eyes locking onto her.

Closer and closer she came, until her face became clear.

It wasn’t her.

Like a massive weight being lifted off his chest, Felix exhaled deeply and leaned back in his chair, pressing his fingers hard against his temples.

This was more exhausting than closing a billion-dollar deal.

The cabin remained eerily still. Time seemed to have passed it by without leaving a trace.
