Someone clears their throat behind me, and I stiffen, wondering if Alexander has tracked me down again. Instead, when I turn, it’s his cousin standing behind me. “Sorry to interrupt. I wondered if you had any notes from the last law class?” Lila asks.

I smile, as Lila has always been nice, even if we don’t hang out. She’s kept to a mainly Spanish friend group, as they seem to prefer to converse in Spanish most of the time, but she’s nothing like her cousin. I always found it strange that Alexander didn’t stick with the Spanish kids, especially since his English wasn’t the best when he arrived, but he was determined to run the place. Lila is kind and goes out of her way to help people, basically the polar opposite of Alexander.

“Yeah, I’ve got them somewhere.” I tilt my head. “Where were you?”

She sighs and sits down next to me. “My father called me home for an event. He’s always doing it.” She bites her bottom lip. “Would you mind if I scanned the notes?”

I shake my head. “Of course n
