"What's wrong?" I squirmed free from Sean's grip on my face. The man's face was also close to me that I felt suffocated. "Am I going to die? What are those damn bugs out there?"

"And why in the hell you're here?" Sean snarled. I stiffened; never did I think that this man I considered perfect was now barking at me. I felt humiliated, but I saw drops of tears running down his flushed cheek when I looked up at him.

"Patrick, what are we going to do?" Sean growled again, and I noticed his quivering lips, which he concealed by brushing his hair away with his fingers a couple of times. I looked at the man, and I shuddered at his pale lips. Drops of sweats were trickling down his temples.

"Sean, I don't know. You know I have not discovered or developed an antidote yet."

From their tone, I realized I was in danger. What kind of bugs were there in those barrels that this man had to create an antidote? And why in the hell would he grow those kinds of bugs whos

SEAN'S POV"Miss," I froze when I saw the person whom Red addressed. "Are you the third applicant?"Calla frowned after she shifted her gaze between Red and me. I knew she felt bad when she saw Red and me kissing."You are in the wrong office," I said, but my heart was already in my throat. This woman was indeed hard to turn down. "The HR office is on the left-wing, and you are in the right."I stepped back so Red couldn't see my facial expression. I placed Calla temporarily at the hotel while still thinking about the best thing to do. A few days later, I asked Philip to fetch her and bring her to my office. However, instead of bringing her directly there, Philip took her instead to the clinic. I almost choked to death when I saw her. I still didn't get the nerve to tell Red that Rya Sevilla was Calla.I pretended to show Calla the way to the HR office. I was glad I succeeded, but Calla's face twisted like a

SEAN'S POVSEAN'S POVI already foresaw that Calla's coming into my life again would create a problem between Red and me. Our relationship was still too young, and like a seedling, it didn't have any roots yet. I couldn't allow it to die; it's a commitment I couldn't afford to break.I applied for Red an indefinite leave and brought her to the only place I called my own. All that I have was not mine, though I spent my sweat and blood for it. When the right time comes--when Red would be able to move on completely from Eric--I would tell her my secrets. Eric was a greedy businessman, always hungry for more power and wealth, so how could I throw out Sir Thomas' legacy to an unworthy person? Red was never business-minded, and she would never be able to handle such massive conglomerates. We left early in the morning through the company's private plane. In just a few hours, my eyes were alre

  • Through Your Eyes   Chapter 55

SEAN'S POVI followed Patrick to the woods when he did not come back after about fifteen minutes. I got worried that his enemies might have already tracked him in this remote part of the country. One of the reasons I relocated the occupants of this place was that I did not want any trouble coming my way. I did not mind that I had no neighbors, as long as I had Patrick and his wife.To my horror, I saw Red crouching on the ground with her head buried on top of her pulled-up knees. I got even more horrified when she looked up with bloodshot eyes. I was afraid that Patrick might have suspected her as a spy and hurt her."She 0pened the lid of the Bronca breeders," Patrick informed me, his voice quivering in fear. "Sean, check her out."I freaked out when I saw that reddish mark of a Bronca bite in her cheek. Just a while ago, Patrick even boasted about how lethal its bite was. He tried it on the animals, and all of the

Sean's POVI am not a medical professional, but I could tell that her blood pressure was dropping. I got scared, and my knees were losing strength. The beeping of the monitor sounded like a call to the grave, and it drove me crazy.I looked at the doctor and saw he spoke to the nurses. I could not hear anything, but I knew he was giving orders. The nurses moved like bolts of lightning. My eyes couldn't follow them all. One of them picked up a vial, aspirated the content out of it through a syringe, then infused it in the bigger bottle. I guessed it was the medicine to address her dropping blood pressure. Soon, I saw it hanging on an IV stand, followed by other bottles.Someone approached me and took Red's history. Looking at the pin on her left upper chest, I understood that she was a post-graduate intern. I may not have known Red too well, but I was able to answer all her questions because I had Red's personal data even before I met he

SEAN'S POV"My beloved countrymen, this is my promise to all of you. I will do all it takes to stop the spread of this deadly Bronc X virus. I am commissioning a group of experts to conduct studies and research about the nature of this virus so that they can formulate drugs that would stop this malady. It had already affected not just our daily activities but also the country's economy. As of now, the best solution to this problem is to implement a strict quarantine to every district, city, municipality, and region."With my capacity as a scientist and founder of the drug that ended the plague in the past, I will impart all my knowledge to the research teams. As soon as possible, we should be able to come up with the best solution to our current suffering."The crowd gave a continuous round of applause. Bright flashes of the sea of cameras glittered inside the huge arena."God bless the president!""We love y

SEAN'S POINT OF VIEW"I don't get what you mean," I replied with a narrowed gaze-- trying to wear a nonchalant expression."I am covering for Dr. Yrna's patients, including Miss Sevilla."I felt a pool of blood rushing into my head, sending heat into my face. If I would look at myself in the mirror, I knew I would see a beet-red face, along with the sharp darts of my eyes. I hate myself for being too careless. Why didn't I think of warning Dr. Yrna to keep this matter with Calla between ourselves? Why did she choose Red's close friend to cover for her absence of all obstetricians out there?"I am never betraying her. Not all things you want to hide means betrayal," I answered, giving her a sharp gaze. "I have reasons.""There should be open communication. I'm sure she would understand. Why not make her a part of the plan?"Why not make her a part of the plan instead of hurting her with my lies? L

  • Through Your Eyes   Chapter 59

SEAN'S POVI remembered the rapid race ug my heartbeats as I listened to Patrick. My mind was screaming its protest; I could already guess what's next. I stared at him, sparing a blink. Perhaps, Patrick had read my mind because his lips twisted into a sad smile, its corner etched with pain."I was already a step away from success, but he took it all and claimed the full victory."There was a time when the people already cried from helplessness and despair because of the virus outbreak that caused thousands of mortalities. Just when the leaders of the country almost gave up hope, Ric Abella announced his breakthrough regarding the discovery of a particular drug that saved the country from the brink of death."Not even one of his colleagues stopped him from doing that?" I stared at him in disbelief."It was a secret that only him and I knew."I already expected this, but the next thin

  • Through Your Eyes   Chapter 60

SEAN'S POV "Calla, haven't I told you many times to stay only at your room?" I said in a frustrated tone, right after the call from the president got fortunately disconnected. I drew in a deep breath, but another headache had then showed up at the doorway. "Sean, I'm bored to death! Can you at least give me a job?" She walked towards my desk and sat across me, throwing her other leg above the other before she pulled herself upright. "Calla, sooner or later, your face will appear on the screen. I don't want any trouble with the president, nor with Red." "Red, again! Haven't you any female employees? Why can't I be one of them?" I sighed, regretting the day I accepted the president's request to help her hide from the public and accepting Calla's plea to escape from the president. "How about going to other countries? I can help you with that." "Sean, I'm pregnant. It's difficult to

"This is a mistake," I said, breaking the silence and awkwardness. "Because you thought that another man is coming in?" he said, and his lips broke into a tender smile. He strode fast towards me, then wrapped me right away in his arms. "I miss you, babe," he said in a hoarse voice, hugging me tighter. "I missed you so much." "You have no right to say that. In the next few hours, you will already have a new bride." Sean then held me at arm strength and looked into my eyes. "Mia?" "Who else?" I replied, my voice startingto crack. "My mother has long adopted Mia as my little sister. I'm sorry for not telling you this because it was part of the plan to mislead President Ric and his allies." My goodness! I felt like a candle, melting in too much shame. "I have always told you that there's no one else in my heart, long before I found you." Sean cupped my face, and when he was about to bend his h

I furrowed my brows while I took the paper bags from her hands."Dr. Mia would like you to be there at her garden wedding this afternoon."I froze in my seat, unprepared to take the big blow. Sean and Mia are getting married today? Why hasn't she told me about it? Is she afraid to break the news to me because I am sick?I felt a lump sticking inmy throat, summoning the floodgates of tears behind my eyes to open up. I chuckled loudly, but my tears trickled endlessly that I couldn't brush them enough with the back of my index fingers."Look, Dr. Red, the garden is already ready," the nurse said as she walked towards the glass wall, peeping throughthe narrow slits betweenthe curtains.I jumped off the bed after a while then sauntered towards the glass wall. A beautiful flower garden greeted my eyes, and there were rows of chairs and tables indeed, wrapped in cream and burgundy pleated skirts.I scanned the place furth

  • Through Your Eyes   Chapter 123

I ran to the window and parted the curtains to the side. I looked over the direction of the Kalasag Hill, and just as I anticipated, I saw black clouds of smoke rising from the forest. Instead of losing my strength in fear, I felt an adrenaline rush from within me. I stormed out of the room, and without heeding the manager's yells, I ran towards the direction of the forest.I felt within me a prodigy of strength that none of the resort’s staff was able to stop me. Not long after, I heard the sound of the galloping horse’s hooves.“Ma’am, hop in!” the manager yelled at me while I moved to the side to give way.I saw him pulling short both the reins. Then he braced one hand on the horse’s neck, holding the rein tightly and grabbing its mane. Raising the other rein up and back, he then pulled it toward his shoulder. The manager then got off quickly from the horse as soon as it pulled to a stop. Without waiting for his inst

"Thanks, God! You're finally awake!"I shut my eyes back when the blinding light of the sun entered my eyes. I then opened them slowly until I got adjusted to the glare. I stared at the woman who stood by the bedside, brushing the tears in her eyes with the back of her hand."Mia?" I exclaimed, my eyes glowed at the sight of my rival in my love for Sean."Why are you here?"Her lips trembled right away, and her eyes welled with tears. "You scared us so much, especially Sean. I got so worried that he might not be able to handle his grief."I furrowed my brows as I gathered back my thoughts on what happened before I drifted off to sleep. The ache on my back, the muscle pain, and my grogginess told me I had been in bed for days. Then, I remembered I was running after Sean and ended on escaping from the president through the cave. And I recalled everything that followed after that. A bronco bug bit me, and Philip's voice was the last thing I heard befo

  • Through Your Eyes   Chapter 121

The manager gestured with his hand to let me follow him to the elevator. Once we were there, he took me to the seventh floor. He waited until I stepped out before he came up by my side. Then he led me to a room at the end corner of the floor. It had mechanical locks that seemed difficult to break in, but the manager keyed in the codes with deft fingers. In less than a minute, the door opened, and he led me inside. My eyes caught the huge screen right away, displaying multiple windows that showed different areas of the hotel. The manager then ran his fingers on the keys, and the lobby where the president and his men were dining, zoomed in.“Did you hear something from them that scares you?” he asked, turning his head to look at me.I just held his gaze, but I did not nod nor shake my head.“Is this the reason?” he asked again, and after some clicks, a window opened to an area by the outskirts of the forest. My eyes flew

  • Through Your Eyes   Chapter 120

I tuned in a sharp ear while I was sipping from my cup, listening to their conversation. Pretending to be occupied, I picked up a magazine from under the table. These men were just a few meters away from me, though a pillar blocked me from their view. I knew they saw me, but perhaps thinking I was harmless, they did not seem to mind my presence.“Have the troops arrived already?” one of the men asked, his voice louder than a whisper. But because of the deafening silence of the place, you can hear even a needle dropping.“Yes, they are already surrounding the forest of Kalasag.”“How far is it from here?”“It’s the next hill from here.”So, I am now in a resort close to Kalasag, Sean’s homeplace. Mr. Ian and all his allies must have brought me here to blackmail me into selling the other half of my shares by using Sean as a pawn. But of all places in the face of the earth, why does Mr. I

  • Through Your Eyes   Chapter 119

I got up from my bed and walked towards the window. Parting the curtains to the side, the blinding light of the sun piercing through the window panes made me close my eyes for a moment. I closed my eyes tightly then opened them slowly until I got adjusted to the glare. The moment I gazed into the distance, all I could see was the rich and sprawling greeneries below the wide canopy of the sky, animated by its sailing, fluffy clouds. From where I stood, it looked like I was on top of a hill overlooking the rolling stretch of farms and plain below.I then looked around the room. My huge bed satatop a carpeted floor under a chic ceiling design illuminated by white, LED lightings underneath a rectangular frame. Aside from a set of couches, a coffee table, and built-in lockers, only a set of television, a phone, and a refrigerator graced the room. But what caught my interest in being here was the glass walls that allowed me to see the spectacular views of the rows of trees, t

  • Through Your Eyes   Chapter 118

I couldn’t seem to imagine that my grandfather had other women. Perhaps, he did it while grandmother was still alive. But who am I to judge him anyway?“It was a short-term relationship with his secretary, back then. When your grandmother found it out, she almost left; but luckily, your grandfather was able to persuade her to save their marriage. From then on, he never had a female secretary, and that was how Philip came in.”“So, Philip was grandpa’s secretary?”“And Sean’s, when he passed away. He is your grandfather’s most trusted assistant.”My heart sank as I heard it. I still remembered how Philip affirmed Hazel’s confession about my real identity. If it were not for him, I would not have trusted Hazel’s claims. If it were not for him, I would not have come to believe that Sean was making lies all along.“Sadly, he has betrayed them,” I said, my lips tur

“Dr. Red, I just received a report that Prospero City is now on complete lockdown,” the pilot told me after I climbed into the plane after our last stopover for refueling and engine checks.“Is it because of the spread of the Bronc X virus?” I asked, stiffening in my seat; my eyes unblinking.“Your city is the only place negative of Bronc X infection,” the pilot replied while his hands were fumbling over some keys on the cockpit. “But it is heavily guarded since Mr. Sean Grey’s business establishments are there. No one is allowed an entry or exit for the moment.”My thoughts then went on Sean and I was wondering if this pilot beside me was the one who transported Sean to wherever he may be at this moment.“Is Sean in Prospero now?” I tried to sound dry, presuming that everybody already knew our status. And surely, this pilot who brought every dignitary to each of their destinations had also
