Madison’s POV.

I was in a deep sleep; my phone was ringing nonstop, and I was too tired to reach it. I opened my eyes slowly, the room coming into focus around me. I was lying in a comfortable bed, and I could smell the fresh scent of clean linen. I blinked a few times, my mind trying to piece together where I was and how I had gotten there.

Gradually, the events of the previous night came back to me, and I remembered that I was staying at Tyler’s house. I tried to turn but his hands were wrapped around me; he held me tightly.

“Get off me, you jerk!”

Tyler was still sleepy.

“Keep your voice down; why are you always grumpy in the morning?”

He turned to the other side of the bed; he didn't even open his eyes; his eyes were still shut.

I sat up in bed, my head still a bit fuzzy from sleep. The room was bright, with sunlight pouring in through the window. I sat up in bed, stretching my arms over my head. I felt a bit disoriented, my brain still trying to shake off the last dregs of s

Madison’s POV. Tyler took the phone from my hand and dialled the number for the police station, putting it on speakerphone. I listened as the phone rang, my heart pounding in my chest. Finally, a woman's voice came on the line. "Hello, this is the police station; how can I help you?” Tyler cleared his throat and spoke into the phone. "Hi, I'm calling on behalf of my friend, Madison Byers. She's worried about the status of a case you're investigating. It's about her sister, Gem.” "Can I have the victim's name and the case number?” The woman asked, her voice calm and professional. Tyler looked at me and I told him Gem's full name and the case number, which I had committed to memory. "One moment, please.” There was a brief pause, and then she spoke again. "I'm afraid I can't give you any updates on this case. It's still an open investigation, and I'm not authorized to share any information. But I can tell you that the police are doing everything they can to bring your sister

Madison’s POV.I took the call quickly and put the phone on speaker so Tyler could hear what the officer was saying. "Hello, Miss Madison Byers.” “Good day, officer.” “We found your sister.” My heart leaped for joy. I was so excited and I jumped off my seat and leaped for joy.“But I'm afraid we have bad news. The sudden joy I was feeling faded away. It didn't even last; I felt a cold sensation down my spinal cord. What could be wrong? Is Gem dead? What had happened to her? I couldn't speak for a few seconds, and I felt the tension on Tyler's face too. We couldn't utter a word.“Hello? Are you there?” I hesitated for a while before speaking. “I’m here, officer; I can hear you.” “Your sister is unconscious; she was overdosed by the time we got there; we had to rush her to the hospital.” My heart sank at the officer's words. "Is she okay?" I asked, my voice trembling. "Is she going to be okay?" "We don't know yet," he said. "The doctors are doing everything they can. But I'll

Madison’s POV.Gem was in a very critical condition, she was overdosed on cocaine. My heart sank as I heard the news. I knew that cocaine overdose could be deadly, and the thought of losing my sister was almost too much to bear. "What's her prognosis?I asked the nurse, my voice barely a whisper."It's too early to say, we're doing everything we can, but it's important to prepare for the worst.”My legs felt weak and I sank into a nearby chair. "I can't lose her," I said, tears streaming down my face. "I just can't."The nurse put a hand on my shoulder and gave me a sympathetic smile. "I know it's hard," she said. "But right now, the best thing you can do is to be there for your sister.Talk to her, even if she can't respond. And make sure you take care of yourself too. You can't help her if you're not taking care of yourself, your mum’s heart is not even strong enough to carry the weight of her state, just try to be strong for your family. Her words hit hard, and I knew she was right

Madison’s POV.I moved away from Tyler and walked around the hospital. I was walking around the buildings and admiring nature. I took a deep breath, enjoying the fresh air. The sun was warm on my skin, and I could feel the stress of the day starting to melt away.I looked around, taking in the sights of the hospital grounds. There were trees and flowers everywhere, and I felt a sense of peace wash over me. I walked slowly, savoring the feeling of being outside, away from the hospital room, away from Tyler. The sound of birds singing filled the air, and I closed my eyes, listening to the music of nature. I felt like I was in a different world, far away from the troubles of my life. I felt my body relax, and I began to feel grateful for the simple things in life. The sun, the air, and the trees, all of these things were precious, and I was lucky to be able to enjoy them. Madison’s POV.Hot tears rolled down my eyes as I listened to Tyler’s mom insult me over the phone. She sounded so mean and aggressive; she sounded as if she would have torn me apart if she were face-to-face with me.“Stay away from my son; you and your broke family are just looking for what to leverage on. I think I don’t know that he paid for your mother’s surgery. That is all you want him for; you want him to be by your side so he can spend all the money he makes on you.” “That is not true, ma; I didn’t even know he was.” “Shut up!!! I know you cajoled him into signing that marriage contract with you. I will come after your family if you do not let him have a peaceful relationship with Brenda.” The call dropped and I was so angry; my chest was heavy from the insult I received from Tyler’s mother, but I could still hear her voice in my head, ringing in my ears. “You’re nothing but a gold-digger! You’re just using my son for his money!” I felt a surge of anger rising within me, an

Madison’s POVThe elevator was taking a long time to get to Gem’s floor; it felt like the motion was slower than the time me and Tyler got in.Andy and Rose’s actions were both funny and weird, and it made me smile because I knew that something was definitely up with these two.“Are you guys going to tell me what is wrong with you too or do you want me to keep enjoying the awkward silence?”“What do you mean? Nothing is wrong; why do you think something is wrong? “ Rose asked me. “I don’t know; you tell me, Rose.” “Well, you are just assuming that something is wrong.” “So why are you both acting weird?”“Well, nothing is wrong from my end and I know that for sure but I can only speak for myself; I cannot speak for Andy. Maybe you should ask him if something was wrong with him; I think something is up with him.” The elevator opened at this point and Andy got out. It was almost as if his patience was running out; it was as if he couldn’t wait to be out of the same space as us.He wa

Madison’s POV.We all rushed towards Gem; she wasn't fully awake but her eyes were open and she could recognize her environment. Andy, who was having an emotional breakdown, cleaned his eyes and put up a fake smile. At that moment, all the anger I was feeling for Gem went away; it faded away and all I wanted at that point was for her to be okay.“Hey Gem!! How are you? We were worried and scared; we were all on our toes when they brought you in.” “I’m fine, mom. Where am i? Where are Ben and Kelly?”We all looked at ourselves; we didn't know who she was referring to. I had no idea who Ben or Kelly were, but I guess they were friends.“Sweeti, we do not know where Ben and Kelly are at this moment but I believe they are fine.”“ What happened, mummy? Why am I here, Why are you all looking at me like I am invalid?”“Quit saying nonsense, Gem; you were brought here as a result of the bad decision you took; you are lucky to be alive; you would have been far gone in the land of the dead.”

Tyler’s POVI was feeling a mix of joy and nervousness as I stood in front of the altar. Finally, the day Madison and I would be married was here. It was the moment I had been waiting for. I knew how important this event was, and my heart was racing with happiness as I waited for my bride. As I walked around in a classy and charming black suit, I couldn’t help but notice the little things that made my outfit special. The suit fit my body perfectly and hugged me in all the right places. The jacket had a slim fit that drew attention to my broad shoulders, and the pants were expertly made to make me look sharp and stylish. The fabric was a high-end mix of fine wool and silk. It had a light sheen that made the outfit look a little more glamorous. The suit’s black color was classic and timeless, which matched both my great taste and the seriousness of the event. A thin satin trim around the lapels added a modest but elegant touch that made the whole look better.A crisp white dress shirt t

Madison’s POVThree months laterAs Tyler and I entered the sleek, modern office building, a wave of anticipation and nervousness filled the air. I could feel Tyler’s steady presence beside me, providing a reassuring anchor amid the storm of feelings brewing inside me.The moment we stepped into the meeting, all eyes turned towards us. The muted hum of talks stopped, replaced by the palpable tension that gripped the room. I kept a composed exterior, channeling the confidence Tyler had instilled in me throughout this ordeal.Leonard Byers, sitting at the head of the table, looked up from his papers, his expression shifting from indifference to shock as he registered my presence. The board members, accustomed to his authoritative demeanor, reflected his astonishment. I wanted to be honest with Madison about everything.”My mom’s eyes narrowed further, her worry escalating into frustration. “Honest conversation? Tyler, after everything that happened in the past, you think you can just waltz back into my daughter’s life and have a ‘heart-to-heart’? What gives you that right?”Tyler sighed, understanding the gravity of the situation. “Mrs. Anderson, I know I messed up in the past. I hurt Madison, and I take full blame for that. But people can change, and I want to make amends. I love your daughter, and I want to be there for her.”My mom crossed her arms, her anger obvious. “Change? Love? Tyler’s POVI reassured myself, “Headaches are not unusual after a head injury. We’ll monitor her closely and adjust the treatment as required. The goal is to make her as comfortable as possible during the healing process.”Once Madison’s pain medication was administered, she started to relax, with the sharp pain gradually subsiding. Doctor Bennet turned to Madison’s mother with a serious look.“Mrs. Byers, I would like to discuss some important issues with you. Can you please join me in my office? We can talk more freely there,” Doctor Bennet offered.Madison’s mother looked concerned but nodded. “Of course, doctor. I’ll be right there. Madison, I’ll be back soon. Try to get some rest, sweetheart,” she said, gently kissing her daughter’s face.As Mrs. Byers stepped out of the room with Doctor Bennet, I looked at them with interest. Madison’s POVI lay on the narrow hospital bed, my eyes half-closed, trying to make sense of the fuzzy shapes around me. The sterile scent of the hospital room filled my nose, and the rhythmic beeping of machines provided a disconcerting soundtrack to my hazy thoughts. The pain on my side felt like a sharp jab, a constant reminder of something I couldn't quite grasp.I heard my mom's voice in the distance, a comforting murmur that reassured me, "You'll be fine, Madison. The doctors are taking care of you." It was a distant echo, like a lifeline connecting me to the world outside my foggy cocoon. I tried to focus on the words, to find solace in them, but the pain and dizziness were relentless.A nurse came in, her friendly face obscured by a mask, and checked the machines that surrounded me. "How are you feeling, sweetie?" the nurse asked, her voice a gentle melody. I managed a weak smile, attempting to convey that I was okay even though I wasn't entirely sure. The nurse adjusted some

"Building trust with Madison's mother will also take time. It's crucial to be patient and show through your actions that your intentions are sincere. Avoid confrontations, be respectful, and give her the space she might need to process everything."I sighed, a mix of frustration and understanding. "I just don't want to be seen as the bad guy here. I genuinely care about Maddison, and I want her to have all the support she needs."Dr. Bennett nodded in agreement. "It's evident, Tyler. Just be yourself and focus on being a positive presence. Actions often speak louder than words, and with time, her mother may come to see your genuine concern for Maddison's well-being."Feeling a bit more assured, I nodded. "Thanks, Dr. Bennett. Your advice means a lot. I'll do my best to be patient and understandi

The chair creaked slightly under his weight as he settled in, glancing around the room at the diplomas and medical charts adorning the walls.“Thanks, Dr. Bennett,” I mumbled, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. “Sorry I’m late.
