Chapter 2

Penulis: Full of Luck
Niamh turned to Harvey and made a playful face. "Elara misunderstood us again. I'll go explain everything to her."

"There's nothing to explain. She's just too sensitive."

Harvey's expression remained indifferent as his gaze shifted to the half-eaten birthday cake Elara had left behind. His brows were knit.

With Harvey's final word on the matter, the tension in the room eased. Elara storming out wasn't a big deal anyway.

The others chimed in agreement. "Elara's just upset. Harvey can calm her down when he gets home."

"Exactly. There's no way she'd actually divorce Harvey. Everyone knows Elara almost gave her life to have his kids."

"Who knows, she might already regret walking out the door!"

"Come on, let's eat the cake! By the time Harvey gets home, Elara will probably be standing at the door like a loyal wife waiting for her husband!"

Harvey's brows relaxed as he imagined Elara timidly standing by the door, cautiously trying to please him.

Meanwhile, Beau savored the cake Niamh had brought him. The creamy sweetness filled his mouth. It was even beginning to numb his tongue, but he didn't care.

It felt so good that his mother wasn't around to control what he ate anymore.

When the birthday party ended, Harvey reclined in the car, resting with his eyes closed. The light from outside flickered across his face, casting alternating shadows and illumination.

"Daddy! I'm getting itchy!" Beau's small voice broke the silence.

Harvey opened his eyes and turned on the overhead light. Beau's face was flushed, and he was scratching himself incessantly. Even his breathing was labored and uneven.

Harvey pried Beau's hands away and saw red rashes spreading across his neck. He was having an allergic reaction.

Harvey's expression remained calm as he pulled out his phone and dialed Elara's number.

The call connected, but before he could speak, an automated voice said, "The number you're calling is currently unavailable."

A sharp glint flashed in Harvey's narrow eyes. Their son was having an allergic reaction, and Elara wasn't picking up?

"Drive faster," Harvey ordered the driver. "Take us back to the Fisher residence."

Once home, Harvey carried Beau inside. His eyes instinctively darted toward the entryway, but it was empty. Elara wasn't waiting there as she usually did.

Mary Anderson rushed over, and she quickly noticed Beau's discomfort. "What's wrong with Mr. Beau?"

"Allergic reaction," Harvey answered curtly as he removed his shoes.

"How could he have an allergic reaction? Mrs. Fisher has always been strict about what Mr. Beau eats," said Mary.

"Where's Elara?" Harvey's steps didn't falter as he headed into the living room, still holding Beau.

"Mrs. Fisher and Ms. Bambi went to stay at her parents' house tonight."

A cold aura enveloped Harvey's features.

Was Elara seriously throwing a tantrum at a time like this? Did she think the Fisher family couldn't manage without her and that he'd come begging for her to return?

"Where are the allergy medications?" His voice was steady, with no hint of emotion. Even so, it carried a pressure that made Mary instinctively shrink back.

"I don't know." Mary's response earned her an icy glare from Harvey that made her shudder.

She quickly added in a small voice, "Mrs. Fisher is the one who handles the medicine cabinet."

There was an incident where Mary had failed to properly store the medicine, leading Beau and Bambi to mistake pills for candy. Thankfully, they had only ingested vitamins and narrowly avoided a serious incident.

However, Elara had scolded Mary harshly for it. Yet Mary complained to Harvey's mother, Ethel Foster, and Elara ended up receiving criticism from her as well.

From that point on, Elara had forbidden Mary from touching the medicine cabinet.

The family doctor, Taylor Keller, administered a shot to Beau an hour later, and the rashes subsided.

Beau lay weakly on his small bed. His eyes were brimming with tears that he refused to let fall.

Harvey stood at the bedside with his arms crossed, and his tall figure looked as rigid as a pine tree. His icy demeanor radiated an oppressive aura that made Beau clutch his blanket tightly.

"Daddy, don't tell Niamh I had an allergic reaction. Don't blame her, either. It's all Mommy's fault. If she let me have milk more often, I wouldn't be allergic to it now."

The child's innocent voice received no response from Harvey. Taylor assured him that Beau's condition was stable, and Harvey turned to leave the room without another word.

When Beau fell ill, it was always Elara who personally took care of him. But even with Elara absent, the Fisher family still had Taylor around to easily handle Beau's condition.

Harvey then relaxed and returned to his room. The two had begun sleeping in separate rooms after Elara became pregnant. Hence, his room bore no trace of Elara's presence.

Elara's existence just seemed entirely dispensable to both Harvey and Beau.

Harvey woke up at his usual time the next morning. As he sat up and reached for the water glass on his nightstand, his hand came up empty.

Elara usually woke earlier than him and would leave a glass of salt water by his bed.

The air around Harvey grew heavy with his displeasure. As he stepped out of his room, he heard a commotion coming from the children's room.

Beau was fussing, as he often did upon waking. It usually took Elara a long time to soothe him, and Mary was struggling to coax Beau into the bathroom today.

Finally, Beau climbed onto a wooden stool by the sink. He picked up his toothbrush and turned to Mary.

"Why didn't you put toothpaste on it?"

He then picked up his water cup, and his expression darkened further. "There's no water in my cup either!"

"Apologies, Mr. Beau!" Mary quickly stepped forward to squeeze toothpaste onto the brush and fill his cup with water.

"This isn't my toothpaste!" Beau cried out in frustration. His toothpaste was supposed to be a sparkly blue gel.

"I'm so sorry!" Mary's head throbbed. "Mrs. Fisher's the one who always handles these things."

At breakfast, Harvey looked at the bland food on the table and casually ordered, "Make some Scotch eggs."

"Huh?" Mary froze.

"I want Scotch eggs too," Beau added.

Mary was sweating nervously as she pulled out her phone. "I'll call Mrs. Fisher and ask her how to make them."

Elara was woken by the sound of her phone ringing early in the morning. She clearly remembered that she had turned off her 5:00 am alarm.

She answered the call groggily and heard Mary asking, "Mrs. Fisher, Mr. Fisher and Mr. Beau wanted to eat… uh, some kind of Scott eggs for breakfast. I don't know how to make them."

Elara rubbed her sore eyes. "I'll send you the recipe and instructions."

Mary glanced quickly at the instructions Elara sent and fell silent.

To make these Scotch eggs, she'd need to boil the eggs, peel them, wrap them in seasoned chicken, coat them with breadcrumbs, and fry them until golden brown.

Elara's notes added specific details as well.

Harvey liked soft-boiled eggs, which required five minutes of boiling and three minutes of frying over low heat. Meanwhile, Beau preferred fully cooked eggs that needed eight minutes of boiling and four minutes of frying.

Mary hurriedly asked, "Mrs. Fisher, when are you coming back?"

This method of cooking eggs was way too complicated. Mary thought Elara could just make them when she returned.

"I'm not coming back."

"What?" Mary was stunned, but Elara's calm voice came through the phone.

"From now on, don't call me about anything concerning the Fisher family. I'll send you all the notes I've written while managing the household."

"No, wait!" Mary's voice was abruptly cut off.

Elara then glanced at the time on her phone. She turned over, wrapped her arms around Bambi, and went back to sleep.

Mary returned to the dining room looking dazed. She rubbed her hands nervously. "I'm sorry, Mr. Fisher. The Scotch eggs are too complicated for me to make."

"Did you get in touch with her?" Harvey's voice was cold.

"Yes, she sent me the recipe, but…"

"Did she say when she's coming back?"

Harvey's suggestion to have Scotch eggs was, in truth, a ploy to get Mary to contact Elara. "Did you and Mrs. Fisher have an argument, Mr. Fisher?""Mind your own business!" Harvey's sharp tone chilled the air in the dining room.Mary shrank back, not daring to say another word while Harvey tightened his grip on the mug in his hand. How could Elara possibly not come back? By now, she should already be preparing the homemade lunch she always sent to his office.Whenever Elara upset him in the past, she would personally deliver lunch to the office as a reconciliation gesture.…Bambi sat at the dining table, and her eyes lit up when she saw the breakfast. Harvey had already hung up on the other end of the line.Elara got back into her car, pressed the accelerator, and sped out of the parking space. She didn't notice the black sports car trailing her like a shadow.…The scenery on both sides of the road blurred into streaks as the car raced past. The silver Volvo streaked across the asphalt like lightning.Elara's dark eyes fixed firmly on the road ahead. It had been a long time since she had driven this fast. The rush of adrenaline surged in sync with the speedometer needle climbing to its peak. She overtook three flashy sports cars in quick succession, leaving their drivers shouting in surprise."Whoa! Who the hell was that?"Someone in another car instructed while speaking through a Bluetooth earpiece, "Get me the details on that license plate."The modified sports cars were left far behind one at a time. Elara didn't ease off the accelerator even on the winding curves of the mountain road. The group of young thrill-seekers

Meanwhile, Niamh stepped off her modified motorcycle while carrying a paper bag. The security guard stared wide-eyed at the woman in skintight yoga pants.Niamh casually tossed her loose hair over her shoulder. She then greeted the guard with a carefree smile, and entered the kindergarten. She already knew which class Beau was in, and she walked over with a grin upon spotting Bridget."Hi there, I brought more wax bottle candies for Beau. I heard the ones he brought were a big hit with the other kids."Bridget eyed Niamh critically. "So, you're the one who allowed Beau to bring those candies to school?"Niamh's face lit up with excitement. "Yes! These wax bottle candies were made by a friend of mine using premium beeswax…""So, it was you who nearly caused my son to choke to death!"The furious shout exploded behind Niamh. A resounding slap landed squarely across her face as she turned, leaving her seeing stars."Why the hell are you hitting me?" Niamh yelled."It's because yo

Elara's mind went blank. It was as if a tidal wave had crashed over her, tearing at her body and fueling a storm of anger and humiliation. Her expression remained calm as she reached out and picked up the necklace, while Niamh's eyes lit up with a mocking gleam.Harvey leaned against the sofa, and looked away. He was convinced that Elara was like a dog—neglected one moment but wagging her tail the next the moment he beckoned her.Elara hooked a finger under the necklace around Niamh's neck, pulling it forward. She then held the two necklaces side by side."Niamh, the mother-of-pearl on your necklace is of much better quality. How about we trade?"She didn't call out the fake necklace directly as Niamh would have no shortage of excuses to dodge responsibility. Elara wanted Niamh to silently swallow the loss. The delicate chain tightened against the back of Niamh's neck, and she froze awkwardly. Her earlier anticipation of Elara foolishly wearing the fake necklace out in public and

Elara handed Harvey the pen.Niamh widened her eyes at that moment, unable to hide the glimmer of hope shining within them. When she saw Harvey sign the divorce agreement, a secret sense of triumph lit up her face."Elara, you're being so dramatic! I'd wake up laughing in the middle of the night if I had a husband like Harvey!"Elara shot Niamh a faintly mocking glance. "Do you hear how desperate you sound?"Harvey tossed the signed divorce papers at Elara. "You can throw your tantrum, but don't vent your frustrations at Niamh."Uninterested in arguing further, Harvey lowered his voice and spoke to Bambi. "If you ever want to come home, you can always call Daddy."Bambi tilted her head up and looked at Harvey. She didn't say a word and only tightened her grip on Elara's hand. His gaze toward Elara was cold and indifferent. "Bambi is my daughter, so she's welcome to come back anytime, but you… It won't be so easy for you to return."Harvey seemed like a god perched high above as

Niamh's suggestion was tempting, but Beau hesitated. "But if I turn in such a simple project, I'll never get a star.""I can order tons of stars online and give them to you! Then you'll have plenty of stars!"Beau looked at Niamh as if she were an idiot. "Niamh, do you usually wear fake stuff when you go out?"Niamh immediately denied it. "I never wear fake things!"Beau raised his voice. "If I take those stars you bought to kindergarten, won't I just get laughed at by the other kids? Only the stars the teacher gives out are real stars! Haven't you heard of the story called The Emperor's New Clothes?"He huffed angrily before saying, "You're just fooling yourself!"Being reprimanded by a five-year-old left Niamh's expression a chaotic swirl of embarrassment and frustration. "Fine, fine! I'll help you finish building the space fortress."If Elara could build a space fortress out of plastic straws, there was no way she couldn't.Ten minutes later, Niamh accidentally crushed the n

Why did Beau treat their mother's hard work like it was nothing? The truth was, Elara didn't want to push herself so hard either. She had once paid the household staff overtime to help finish Beau and Bambi's craft projects. However, the staff had reported her to Ethel."The reason we allowed a Hawke University genius like you to marry into this family wasn't so you could shirk your duties, Elara. Your only job is to dedicate yourself fully to raising the Fisher family's heir. "Beau's future is your life's work. How dare you delegate his homework to the staff?" That was what Ethel had said to her. While the hous

The craft enthusiast who helped Niamh assemble the space fortress had warned her that the large structure could easily collapse once the box was opened. They specifically told Niamh to handle it with extreme care, as any damage would be her responsibility.Beau nodded earnestly, placing his trust in Niamh.Bridget, however, spoke sternly. "Ms. Jones, you can't do this! Beau's craft project hasn't been displayed or voted on yet, so giving him a spot on stage is unfair to the other children!"Niamh responded with a carefree laugh. "Do you know Madam Fisher is a board member of this kindergarten? Or that Beau's father is coming to the auditorium today to hear Beau's speech?"Beau's eyes lit up instantly. "Daddy is coming to school?"Bambi could hear Beau's excited voice while sitting in her seat, and her heart skipped a beat. Her own eyes brightened as well."Daddy's so busy with work—why would he come to school?" Beau asked in disbelief.Niamh grinned smugly. "If I tell him to co

What are you doing here?" she asked in confusion.Elara's stunned gaze swept over Daphne. It was the dead of winter, yet Daphne was wearing nothing but a thin, white silk dress. She had no shoes on, and her fair bare feet were now flushed red from the cold.Elara couldn't fathom why Daphne had put herself in such a state."Mom, where are your shoes?"Daphne's cheeks were flushed, her hair was disheveled, and tears welled up in her eyes. She clenched her fists while sobbing and rubbing at her tears."I heard that Priscilla was back, so I called Abel. But he didn't answer! So, I went to the airport to find him, and I saw him with Priscilla… Waah! My heart hurts so much!"Daphne had always been pampered and cherished by Abel to the point that even Elara once thought they were a loving couple.Thin

Elara focused on unbuttoning Theodore's dress shirt, her fingers working carefully as the soap made it difficult to undo the buttons. She couldn't be bothered to entertain Harvey's self-righteous outburst.Theodore tilted his head slightly, his gaze dripping with disdain as he looked at Harvey. "What's wrong with my girlfriend helping me take off my shirt?"Mr. Fisher, are you some leftover relic from the past? Why are your thoughts so archaic?"He deliberately emphasized the last word.Harvey's pupils shrank. It was as if someone had struck him with a heavy blow, sending a sharp ache coursing through his body."Do you even hear yourself?" He scoffed. "How long has it even been since our divorce?"Elara didn't spare him a glance. "Oh? So after divorcing you, am I supposed to mourn like a widow?"After unbuttoning the shirt completely, she didn't want Theodore to dirty his hands, so she simply pulled the shirt off him herself. The man's physique was striking—not overly muscular,

Harvey felt as if he had been struck by a heavy blow.He knew he shouldn't have fallen into Theodore's trap, but the moment Elara spoke up for him, it was as if someone had driven an awl straight into his chest. The pain exploded inside him, and the blood that seemed to splatter from the wound stained his vision red.Theodore glanced at Elara, his lips curving upward in silent triumph. Elara knew very well he was deliberately provoking Harvey, but it felt incredible being the one she sided with.Theodore turned back to Harvey, his gaze openly taunting. He reached out and protectively placed a hand on Elara. "I'm worried he's going to throw the soap at you."Harvey felt the blood rush to his throat. He had never been outmaneuvered like this, not even in the cutthroat business world. And now, with no security cameras to prove his innocence here in a men's restroom, he had no way to defend himself in front of Elara.Elara's voice was steady as she said, "Harvey, I know your temper.

Theodore turned his head away, as if unwilling to let Elara see him in such a pathetic state."What happened?" she asked urgently, noticing the slick liquid covering a large portion of Theodore's clothes."What happened to your shirt?"Theodore straightened up and put some distance between them. "It's nothing, and it has nothing to do with Mr. Fisher. I believe he didn't mean to bump into me."His voice carried a stubborn edge.Elara instantly caught on. "Did Harvey push you?"Theodore pressed his lips together and simply reassured her, "Elara, I'm really fine.""He even ruined your clothes, didn't he?" Her tone became more certain.Theodore patted his pockets without explaining and added, "Stay here, and don't come in. I need to grab my phone."Ignoring his words, Elara stepped into the men's restroom, and anger flared within her the moment she saw Harvey's face. It shot up like flames, instantly evaporating any rational thought."Harvey Fisher, are you out of your mind?" sh

Theodore's tall, well-built frame and striking features immediately drew attention from other diners the moment he appeared. Harvey watched as Theodore made his way toward the restroom and then stood up as well."Harvey!" The woman across from him called out, but he didn't spare her a glance."You can leave. I need some peace."Her face instantly darkened. As a lady from an influential family, she had never been treated with such disregard."Hmph!" Huffing in anger, she grabbed her luxury handbag and stormed out of the restaurant. As soon as she stepped outside, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number."Hello, Ms. Price? Looks like I failed my task."…Elara noticed Harvey heading toward the restroom as well. Two men going in at the same time—it didn't seem like a coincidence. He decided to take her out to a nicer restaurant. While Theodore was scanning the menu, Elara glanced up casually and spotted Harvey sitting not far away with a young woman. She sighed inwardly—of all places, she just had to run into him here. Just seeing him sitting there made her lose her appetite."Elara, take a look. What do you feel like eating?"Theodore's clear voice pulled her back to the present. She quickly withdrew her gaze. The man arched a sharp brow.
