Chapter 22

Author: Full of Luck
Charles noticed Theodore was in an unusually good mood. "Was that a big client?"

"Yeah."

Charles grew curious and pressed further, "How big of a client are we talking about, to make you this happy?"

Theodore replied casually, "If I win this case, I'll go home and get married."

The entire room of lawyers stared at him in shock.

Theodore was notorious in their circle as a golden bachelor, someone allergic to romantic entanglements and entirely disconnected from emotional relationships.

Due to his profession, nobody—male or female—dared to play games with him. Those who tried always ended up in court or at the police station.

The meeting room buzzed with chatter. What kind of case or client could be significant enough to prompt Theodore Snapp to turn the page to a new chapter in his life?

Elara didn't have to wait long before she received a call from August Hanson, the manager at BrightPeak Securities.

"I have 60 million to invest in the stock market," she said calmly.

"Alright, I understand," Harvey said as he prepared to hang up.But then he casually added, "How did Elara get in touch with you?"August answered respectfully, "It was Mr. Snapp who introduced me to Ms. Jones."Harvey's gaze darkened, and a shadow settled over his sharp eyes. "Theodore Snapp?"August nodded quickly. "Yes, him."Harvey said nothing more, but a chilling air seemed to emanate from his composed face.…When Elara returned to the Jones residence, the maids had already prepared dinner. Now that she was divorced, she felt it was time to have an honest conversation with her parents. She first took Bambi upstairs to change into fresh clothes. After washing up, she held Bambi's hand and led her out of the room, only to run into her parents."Ah, you're home, Lara?" Her mother, Daphne Larkin, cooed while being carried princess-style in her father, Abel Jones' arms.Daphne had a doll-like face that made her look no older than 30, though she was actually 46. Since Elara

Elara chuckled and said, "I've thrown away plenty of trash. Take your time picking it up."Even if Niamh stripped naked and lay in Harvey's bed, it wouldn't spark a shred of anger in Elara. She would only watch with amusement as Niamh brought about her own downfall.Upon learning that the bracelet was a gift from Harvey, Abel seemed relieved. It confirmed to him that Niamh still held a firm grip on Harvey's heart.Abel shifted his anger toward Elara at the dining table."You must have done something to upset Mr. Fisher that led to the divorce! I'm telling you right now that you ought to go and patch things up with him!"The Jones family are against divorces! Aren't you embarrassed? You're a 30-year-old single mom! Who would want you after this?"Elara ate calmly, occasionally checking on Bambi to ensure she was eating well. She asked, "Dad, aren't you going to ask me why I divorced Harvey?""Why bother? You couldn't even keep a man! Do you know how hard I worked to arrange the m

"Ahhh!" Daphne let out a piercing scream, startled by the sudden chaos. As the round table flipped, Abel scooped Daphne into his arms and stumbled several steps back in panic.Elara seized the moment, rushing forward to pick up Bambi and running toward the nearest kitchen."Abel, I'm so scared!" Daphne whimpered while clinging tightly to Abel's neck.Abel gently patted her shoulder. "Don't be afraid, Daffy. I'll give them both a good slap, and they'll behave!"Daphne shuddered at his words.Niamh, on the other hand, wore a gleeful smile. Elara hadn't faced Abel's wrath since returning to the Jones family. Watching Abel discipline his daughter and granddaughter? Now that would be entertaining!"Elara! Come out here!" Abel shouted, striding toward the kitchen as he loosened the buckle on his belt. He pulled it free, wielding it like a seasoned warden. Then Elara appeared at the kitchen doorway with a sharp knife in her hand. She had Bambi stay behind her in the kitchen while she

"Mommy, was I wrong for doing that just now? I shouldn't have flipped the table, right?" Bambi's voice was small, yet burdened by guilt. She was still so young and thought that by flipping the table, she had caused them to be kicked out of the Jones residence.Elara asked gently, "If you had the chance to do it over, would you still flip the table?"Bambi nodded without hesitation. "I wanted to protect you, Mommy."Elara's smile softened. "Bambi, you did what you could, and you're my hero.""Mommy is my hero!" Bambi said as she nestled into Elara's embrace.Hearing her mother's praise made her eyes shine with pride. Yet, a hint of shyness crept in as she added, "But… I used so much strength. It wasn't very ladylike.""You were born a girl, but girls can be anything they want to be. No one gets to define what a girl should look like or how she should act," Elara said while pulling Bambi close."You were born strong, with the ability to protect yourself. That makes me happy and pr

Harvey sank into the bathtub with a dark expression, enduring the scorching water. He had reminded the maids countless times—104.5 degrees Fahrenheit was his preferred temperature. The scented incense was supposed to be lit ten minutes before he entered the bathroom, but the subtle fragrance was missing. Leaning back against the leather cushion at the edge of the tub, Harvey noticed the lighting wasn't adjusted properly either."Ridiculous." Elara never once got these simple tasks wrong in their seven years of marriage.Taking a deep breath, Harvey told himself to wait a few more days. Elara would be back soon enough.…The next morning, Elara picked up her phone and saw a message from August."Ms. Jones, are you sure you want to invest all 60 million into the stock market?"Elara replied confidently, "I'm sure. Execute the purchase as soon as the market opens.""Understood," August responded, followed by a warning, "Just don't regret it later."Elara turned on her computer an

"Harvey?" Niamh called out.She noticed Harvey's ears turning red. His expression was something she'd never seen before."What did Elara yell at you about over the phone?"His expression was hard to decipher. "She's still picking a fight with me."Harvey found himself doubting whether the person who had just yelled at him was truly Elara."Elara might be going through menopause," Niamh said with a laugh. "They say women do age faster after having kids."…Elara hung up after her outburst and handed the phone back to Frank. He simply stood frozen in place, utterly petrified. With a small wave of her hand, Elara signaled him to take the phone. Frank then bolted as though lingering another second might earn him the same wrath.Elara was eager to leave Azure Shores, and she turned to Bambi with a suggestion. "Want to go with Mommy to visit her mentor?""Yes!" Bambi replied enthusiastically.Elara called Theodore before heading to the Snapp residence. She stopped by a florist to

It felt as though an invisible rope had tightened around Elara's neck, stealing her breath. Tobias stood before her, wearing a deep navy cotton-linen robe. His frame was thin and frail, his hair was now entirely white, and his back was slightly hunched.Elara opened her mouth, instinctively wanting to call out to him, but the word caught in her throat. She no longer deserved to call his name. She wasn't worthy. Her vision immediately blurred with tears."Hello, sir!" Bambi's childish voice broke through the tension like a gentle spring rain."Are you the wise and brilliant Dr. Tobias Snapp my mom always talks about? She says you're a great educator and an outstanding mathematician!"Tobias' stern expression softened as he gazed at the adorable, round-faced Bambi."Your daughter?" he asked.Elara nodded quickly. Tobias frowned deeply, the phrase "shameless spectacle" nearly escaping his lips."What did you do to yourself?" he asked.Theodore was dressed, technically, but his appearance seemed even more suggestive than if he hadn't been. Tobias' thick eyebrows twitched furiously."I got caught in the rain," Theodore replied nonchalantly as he casually brushed his soaked hair back. From Elara's perspective, Theodore's profile was breathtakingly symmetrical, embodying the golden ratio. His high-bridged nose curved gracefully like a slide, mesmerizing in its perfection. On the side of his face that faced Elara, his dimples deepened, making him all the more captivating.Tobias, who was now leaning on Theodore for support, raised a hand to shield his eyes. He needed sunglasses—his son's radiant aura was too blinding!"Let me help you to bed, Dad. Don't push yourself too hard," Theodore said."What do you mean, push myself?" Tobias snapped. He continued thinking to himself, "You're the one p

Paisley stood at the center of the stage and bowed, thanking the audience. Meanwhile, the auditorium erupted in thunderous applause. Several parents who knew Rosalie turned to praise her."Ms. Fisher, you've done such a wonderful job raising her.""Paisley's dancing was beautiful. With her on stage, the whole performance became so pleasing to watch."Parents from the same class chimed in as well. "Rosalie made the right call by having Merida step down from the rehearsals. If Merida had performed, it definitely wouldn't have turned out this well.""Exactly. Rosalie really has great foresight."As they spoke, their glances drifted—intentionally or not—toward Elara. In the microcosm of the school community, parents were sorted by social circles. Even if they acknowledged Elara's competence, to them, she still had no real backing. And without that, she might as well have had nothing. In the world of elite parents at one of Capitol's top schools, Elara stood on shaky ground. Those ho

Rosalie let out a disdainful snort. "Does someone like Elara even deserve to step into the Fisher family's circle?"Her voice turned icy and shrill. "She's only dragging me down!"Luxury brands existed precisely to distinguish those who could afford them from those who couldn't. If commoners could easily buy Louis Vuitton or Hermès, how would the wealthy flaunt their status?Ever since Elara married into the Fisher family, Rosalie felt her own standing had been diminished. Now that Elara had been kicked out, Rosalie wouldn't give her another chance to mingle with high society.Harold lowered his voice. "Put in a good word for me with the Fisher family. Help me become Xavier's tutor."Though Beau had resumed his elite homeschooling, Xavier still attended the same classes—and far outperformed him. Harold had a strong premonition that the Fisher family would focus on cultivating Xavier.Though not Leonard's biological son, Xavier was his sole heir since Leonard had no children of hi

Her voice turned dangerous.Harold instantly trembled, quickly straightening his posture. "Nothing! I wasn't looking at anything!"Rosalie wouldn't let it go. "You kept staring at Elara! Why were you looking at her?"Flames burned in Rosalie's eyes as Harold hurriedly explained, "I just saw Xavier sitting in her lap and got curious! I never expected that child to be so close with her."He then gossiped with Rosalie, "Do you think if Elara dotes on Xavier like this, she might end up becoming Harvey's aunt?"A mischievous smirk spread across Harold's face."Only vulgar minds would come up with such vulgar thoughts!" Rosalie snapped. As a Fisher family member, her first reaction was utter disgust at such disgraceful speculation. How could she ever hold her head high in Capitol's elite circles if this happened?"How could Leonard possibly do such a t

Rosalie's lips curled into a mocking smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Of course, you'd get selected no matter what you perform. I mean, having a school board chairman for a father does wonders."Nearby parents exchanged knowing glances.Elara asked calmly, "Ms. Fisher, did Harvey say something to you?""Not at all," Rosalie replied."Then are you just spreading rumors?" Elara continued. "My daughter's performance earned the arts department's approval. What does that have to do with the Fisher family?"Rosalie lifted her chin, her gaze turning condescending. Since Elara's divorce from Harvey, Rosalie had looked at her like royalty observing an ant beneath her feet."The arts teachers only approved it because Harvey's on the board."Elara simply smiled. Rosalie was clearly trying to pick a fight, but Elara wasn't interested in proving herself. She had no intention of arguing over whether her daughter's opportunity to perform was the result of favoritism from Harvey.Instead, sh

Niamh's mouth opened, her voice trembling as she muttered, "Why… Why would Harvey say that?"By pushing all the blame onto her, wasn't Harvey essentially sentencing her to death? It was no wonder Abel wanted to kill her! Niamh shivered violently, feeling as if her heart might split apart.Abel pointed at her face and growled, "After I break your legs, I'll drag you to the Fisher family to beg Harvey's forgiveness!""Dad! No! Harvey's lying! What he's saying isn't true!"She knew with certainty that Abel would truly break her legs. Disaster was coming for her!Benjamin interjected coldly, "What you should consider is why Harvey would say this. Regardless of the truth, when Harvey shifts all the blame to you, it means you've become worthless to him!"To him, you're just a scapegoat now!"Tears welled in Niamh's eyes. Had Harvey forgotten Dawn's dying words? How could he do this to her?"Dad, I've been framed!" Niamh murmured despairingly.Abel refused to listen. "I don't care if

Her face had turned blue, mouth gaping but unable to draw breath. He immediately administered chest compressions, reviving Niamh just in time.Abel threw the pillow at Benjamin. "Wah!" Beau burst into loud sobs, his cries weak but desperate."I want Mommy! Daddy! I only want my mommy!"Harvey's handsome face froze over with icy detachment. Without another word to Beau, he turned and left the children's room. When the door closed behind him, Beau's wailing became muffled.…Harvey returned to his bedroom, but even in the quiet emptiness, he still couldn't catch his breath. A cold sensation crept up from his feet.Striding to the walk-in closet, he yanked open every drawer. He pulled out ties, watches, cufflinks, and pins, scattering them across the floor.Did Elara give him this one? Did she buy him that? Frustration crept in as he realized he couldn't remember. The gifts from business associates stood out clearly in his memory, but he couldn't distinguish which items came from Elara versus his stylist. Beau was laying on the bed. His large, pitch-black pupils occupied most of his eye sockets, leaving only tiny whites that emitted a faint blue glow in the dim room.Harvey opened his mouth, only to feel as if someone had stuffed a wad of paper down his throat. His voice caught abruptly. Yet Beau's gaze was still brimming with longing and expectation. The boy tightened his grip on Harvey's sleeve."She already divorced me..." Harvey said slowly. How could he possibly reconcile with Elara? He would never return to what he'd left behind. After all, when they signed the divorce papers, he declared Elara would be the one begging him! When they obtained the divorce certificate, the thought of turning back never crossed his mind! Even if Elara had pleaded with him, it would still be impossible!Yet for Beau's sake, Harvey decided to make his greatest concession."If your mother comes begging for reconciliation, I'll consider it."
